There simply isn't enough music out there that induces goose bumps from it's sheer beauty. Wow. This reminds me of Maddy Prior of Steeleye Span. I'm old enough to remember Steelye Span and Pentangle. This is spectacular and the Decemberists are the perfect choice to align herself with.
She reminds me of Anne Briggs, Joni Mitchell and other great women of folk music. Love her voice, beautiful and strong. It's nice to hear Olivia again. Very good song.
The Kinks (probably the best pop band) and The Left Banke. "Pretty Ballerina", released in 1966, is a beautiful song (and the album is a masterwork too).
I've been playing this constantly and playing the album to people and it's going down tremendously. The Album is my favourite for many years as a folk rock aficionado. Also try Richard Thompson, Fairport Convention, Jethro Tull, Show of Hands, Figgy Duff, Tarras, Oyster band, Fotheringay, Steeleye Span, Albion Band, Rattle on the Stovepipe, Great Big Sea, Plankerdown band, Bushwackers band, Redgum, Spririt of the West, Morris On, Renaissance, Lindisfarne, Jack the Lad (70's ), Five Hand Reel, Clan Alba, Runrig, Moving Hearts, Silly Wizzard, Easy Club, Pamela Morgan, Dick Gaughan, Lenahan, Rawlins Cross, Horslips, Sweeneys Men etc etc.
Olivia needs to tour with her own electric band, completely with harpsichord. Colin & Co. proved the concept, and IMO that's the natural next step for Olivia.
I first heard Olivia about two years ago and I had to just sit in the car transfixed by her voice and by her songs on "The Longest River". It is still one of my favourite albums and her voice is ..well what can you say? I love this new collaboration - especially "the old churchyard". Not so keen on "Blackleg miner"
To the queen of hearts, he's the ace of sorrow He's here today, and he's gone tomorrow Young men are plenty, but sweethearts few If my love leaves me, what shall I do? Had I the store in yonder mountain Where gold and silver is had for counting I would not count for the heart of thee Mine eyes so full, I could not see My father left me both house and land And servants many at my command At my commandment, they ne'er shall be I'll forsake them all, and go with thee To the queen of hearts, he's the ace of sorrow He's here today, and he's gone tomorrow Young men are plenty, but sweethearts few If my love leaves me, what shall I do?
They have got to be children of a Renaissance Faire parents and had a harpsichord just laying around the campsite. I always thought the harpsichord was a lame instrument until I heard this song. Amazing songs and I think all the hipsters have a new favorite and their playlist
I'm ready for another Offa Rex album.
Yes we can
Or ten....
still waiting :/
Please - make another album - still listening in 2021 - and in 2040
Olivia Chaney is THE powerhouse voice of modern folk.
Yeah pal, you said it. I caught this on the radio and thought I was hearing remastered Steeleye Span.
That old troubadour spirit of the Decemberists had to go somewhere. Here's where it's landed up.
She reminds me of Anne Briggs, Joni Mitchell and other great women of folk music. Love her voice, beautiful and strong. It's nice to hear Olivia again. Very good song.

A Baldwin electric harpsichord! How deliciously retro.
Harpischord and pop goes hand in hand since The Kinks in 1966 (Face To Face). Beautiful!

The Strawbs as well!
Love that little break in her voice every so often. This is excellent, and happily reminiscent of Steeleye Span and Maddy Prior in so many good ways!
Blows me away. So original yet familiar, this music sounds to my ears.

I forgot "Little Johnny England" and "Trad Arr".
Read the interview with Colin meloy in issue 45 of The Fretboard Journal.
Thanks for this comment!

An absolutely amazing collection of music! I'm captivated. Go to bed and wake up listening to this Offa Rex album.
This is beautiful. Fills my soul.
Sooooo perrrrfect....
Thank you to Gordon Roberts of MD, USA for introducing this to me. Very reminiscent of Sandy Denny and early Fairport Convention.
Que hermosa canción! ❤ Suena etérea ls voz de Olivia. Wonderful!!! Can't stop listening
Ok Olivia is beyond talented and amazing to be playing that complicated harpsichord part and singing.
Can't wait for the album to come out!
I'll be having this on auto-repeat for a while... simply wonderful
Fabulous stuff - hope you'll be touring the album in Europe!
Great Work & sound!! Been writing music all my life. And this is great vibe!!!
Really enjoying this - reminds me very much of Mellow Candle, particularly their songs 'Heaven Heath' and 'Sheep Season'
Love it.
gorgeous song
I can't get enough of this!
To the queen of hearts, he's the ace of sorrow
He's here today, and he's gone tomorrow
Young men are plenty, but sweethearts few
If my love leaves me, what shall I do?
Had I the store in yonder mountain
Where gold and silver is had for counting
I would not count for the heart of thee
Mine eyes so full, I could not see
My father left me both house and land
And servants many at my command
At my commandment, they ne'er shall be
I'll forsake them all, and go with thee
To the queen of hearts, he's the ace of sorrow
He's here today, and he's gone tomorrow
Young men are plenty, but sweethearts few
If my love leaves me, what shall I do?
Timeless... beautiful.
Sounds great! It's got a 'The Courage of Others'-era Midlake feel, with Beach House-esque vocals.
Wow I was just listening to that album a few minutes ago, after some years
ファンになりました^ ^
これからも楽しみにしてます
Le clips et vraiment génial

For a second I believe I was hearing Mellow Candle. Beatiful.

Wow! I like your music! Never heard of your work before now, but will definitely be checking it out further.
Love it
YES!
Гарна музика та жіночий спів!
I'd like an instrumental version of this to hear the melody
Great looking video
Very cool
This is far better than Fairport Convention or Steeleye Span.
Any idea what Jenny Conlee is playing?
Jenny Conlee must be in hog heaven: She is a big fan of 'Songs from the Wood' era Jethro Tull.
Reminds me of Vivienne McAuliffe and the Principal Edwards Magic Theater. Very nice!
I am a simple man.. I hear harpsichord, I like
this is fucking amazing!!!
God it's so beautiful
Anyone else getting "Mellow Candle" vibes? Anyway, if you like this you might want to check them out.
lareena mckennit a bit in there I hear!!
For becky hollifield. Hopefully it will remind u of me
Interesting. Might take repeated listening before I finally sign off on it and recommend to others.
High caliber here
Definetly Fairport in source! Brilliant, brilliant singer. You want the best, go to the........Cecil Sharpe!
Sparkle pony
I see Collin playing an acoustic guitar but I can't hear it at all in the song!
Listen harder -- it's there and very effectively recorded.
Offa Rex Totius Anglorum Patriea
sounds a bit like Judee Sill
Eat your heart out Albion Band. I love you but Offa Rex takes it.
Holy Shit, who kept this quiet from me?!?
幻想的
the olde church yard
am I the only one who would rather more new Decemberists stuff than this?
Me too, as nice as it is. The Decembristss are a great band
No, this is the perfect combination. Decemberists with a vocalist with a nice voice.
No, one other cloth eared pillock has also chimed in
I'm ready for another Offa Rex album.
