There's a woman I currently work with whose last name is Lincoln. We're in the UK but she's originally from somewhere in the USA (not sure what state, and I don't know her well enough to ask). Whether she is related to Abe or not, I have no idea.
It should be pointed out that not all places called Lincoln in the United States are named after Abraham. Several (including counties in Alabama, Georgia, Kentucky, Missouri, and Tennessee) are named after Benjamin Lincoln (1733-1810), who was a major general during the Revolutionary War. Levi Lincoln Sr. (1749-1820) was Attorney General of the USA during the administration of Thomas Jefferson, and his sons Levi Lincoln Jr. (1782-1868) and Enoch (1788-1829) were later Governors of the states of Massachusetts and Maine, respectively, well before Abraham Lincoln was President. Levi and his sons were descendants of Samuel Lincoln, Jr., who was an older brother of the Mordecai you mention in this video.
Thank you. Nice to know the others. I’m very aware of Benjamin Lincoln as a fan of the RevWar so being in the south doesn’t surprise me. Except that he was infamous for losing Charles Town in surrender.
The irony is that Benjamin was 100% Yankee. The far less popular (in the South) Abraham was only ⅛. Lincoln, Massachusetts was named directly for the English city, Lincoln, New Hampshire for the Earl of Lincoln. Lincoln, Vermont was named by a founder who had served under Gen. Benjamin Lincoln.
@@kenaikuskokwim9694 Yes, but so was RI native Nathaniel Greene, who ended up heading the southern theater and was very popular. Granted property in the Carolinas.
And the Lincoln Sea in the Arctic Ocean is named after Lincoln’s son, Robert, who went on to become Secretary of War under Presidents Garfield and Arthur.
There are many non-related to Abe Lincolns living in the USA today. Many are African Americans whose ancestors had no surname prior to emancipation, so adopted Lincoln after you-know-who.
Abraham Lincoln even was a figure in a book from Karl May (end of the 19th century to begin of th 20th century). But I can't remember anymore, which book it was. What I know is that in this book was in the Wild West and trained for speeches.
I grew up where Southern Indiana meets Kentucky. I knew a handful of people named Lincoln. Abe lived in both states as a child. There are lots of businesses, schools and organizations named for him around here. Many school kids take class trips to Hodgenville, Ky. to see the cabin where Abraham Lincoln was born - only it’s not real. For decades, the state promoted it as Lincoln’s boyhood cabin, until the news came out that it was a recreation. There’s also lots of Lincoln myth.
I know a woman whose maiden name was Lincoln, a direct descendant. She didn't pass on the name, but she exists. 😂 Edit: Okay, now I'm having my doubts about that claim. The "direct descendant" part was probably a miscommunication.
Patrick: "Are there any Lincolns left?" Me: "Yes, why not? In Alberta, Ontario, New Brunswick as well as in Alabama, Arkansas, California, etc and in the United Kingdom as well."
There is a Lincoln family who immigrated to Brazil from America after the Civil War. I studied with a girl who bore that family name in middle and high school here in Brazil.
As someone mentioned, it’s likely after Gen. Benjamin Lincoln of the RevWar, who was stationed in the south. He infamously surrendered Charles Town to the Brits.
Here’s how the Lincoln in Nebraska got it's name: The capital of the Nebraska Territory had been Omaha since the creation of the territory in 1854. Most of its population lived south of the Platte River. After much of the territory south of the Platte was considered annexation to Kansas, the territorial legislature voted to place the capital south of the river and as far west as possible. Before the vote to remove the capital from Omaha, Omaha Senator J. N. H. Patrick made a last-ditch effort to derail the move by having the future capital named after recently assassinated President Abraham Lincoln. Many of the people south of the Platte had been sympathetic to the Confederate cause in the recently concluded Civil War. It was assumed that senators south of the river would not vote to pass the measure if the future capital was named after Lincoln. In the end, the motion to name the future capital Lincoln was ineffective in blocking the measure and the vote to move the capital south of the Platte was successful, with the passage of the Removal Act in 1867.
Andrew Lincoln of the TV series The Walking Dead is not really a "Lincoln" (his birth name is "Clutterbuck," which sounds like a euphemism for a completely shambolic turn of events, and you can see why he MIGHT want to use a different professional name).
Imma be honest man... The audio sounds almost like you are speaking it through a paper towel roll... I don't know how to explain it any better than that, good video otherwise!
I don’t think they were nearly as great as Lincoln was, but all three of those men were preceded by one of the worst presidents in history, and all three of them managed to re-stabilize and improve the country, in stark contrast to their inept predecessors.
More fun trivia Abe Lincoln had a secretary named Kennedy and President Kennedy had a secretary named Evelyn Lincoln. Both men were replaced by vice presidents named Johnson as well. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lincoln%E2%80%93Kennedy_coincidences_urban_legend
I am a 1st cousin 8 times removed of Abraham Lincoln, but through his mother’s side (his mother was an illegitimate child but had half-siblings with the last name Sparrow, which is the way I’m related to him).
Is your last name Lincoln or do you know anyone with the name?
I have not met anyone with the last name of Lincoln (that I know of), but, my husband and I used to own a Lincoln Towncar (if that counts).
No.

I am grateful to live in an era when having four children implies a strong probability of having four *adult* children one generation later.

"Just a tad confusing." I see what you did there.

May she rest in peace.

Okay with all those details about Abraham Lincoln I am even more impressed by him
(especially fighting zombies)
I didn’t know Tom Hanks was related to Abe Lincoln, but now that I think about it, he does slightly resemble him.
TIL Lincoln's son was alive during WW1.
If that surprises you, you’ll be shocked to learn that a man who witnessed Lincoln’s assassination was alive until 1956
That's crazy
Indeed where I'm from in the Norfolk (England) Lincoln is a common name but it's not common as Dack but a handful amount
RTL is a German TV channel with "Jersey Shore"-ish programs... the German TLC... do with that information what you want :D

Real question is why are there so many Lincolns in Mauritius?
Fascinating video. It’s always so curious to learn about the modern descendants of such monolithic figures.
I also heard there's a dentist actor I think who's a descendant of Lincoln.
Vasectomies can fail.
Yes, the cut parts can reconnect. It has happened many times. The your vas deferens can reconnect months or years later.
