Alexander Yaroslavich was son of the Grand Prince of Vladimir, which was the highest title among the 13th-century Rus tribes. Novgorod, one of the most important Russian states at the time, chose Alexander to be its prince.
The prince was in charge of the battle against the invading Swedish. He won the battle at the river Neva, which earned him the name Alexander Nevsky.
The Pope decided to call a crusade into Russian territories in order to stop the expansion of the Mongolian Golden Horde. However, Novgorod, not willing to allow the Teutonic Knights to take away Russian lands, called upon Alexander Nevsky to defend them.
In the famous Battle on the Ice, Nevsky defeated the Germanic knights and today symbolizes Russian fight for their homeland and the defiance to the West.
Alexander Nevsky, who ended up being the Grand Prince of Vladimir himself, was canonized as a saint by the Russian Orthodox Church.

Guys, we just wanted to let you know that we read through all of your comments and appreciate the suggestions you give. We always have 5-6 video topics scheduled in advance, so that doesn't mean we’re neglecting your ideas, it’s just that it takes time for us to come around to make them.
Also, next week is a busy week on a personal level, plus we’re working on a new channel trailer (because the current one sucks, to be honest), so there’ll probably be no time for a video next Thursday, sorry about that.
Thank you again for watching our videos and leaving positive feedback, really means a lot to us. :)

May I suggest that you link your audience to a suggestion box/page for videos? This could help by having others avoid making such comments, but then again I understand if you would instead want to retain your own agenda.
      Nonetheless great upload as always!

You forgot to mention that his son went on to create Moscow duchy and the dynasty which unified Russia and kicked Mongols out of it. Also he wasn't just paying the Golden Horde. He got "yarlik" - he was in charge of collection all the gold from Rus and shipping it to the Horde (which allowed him to take something for himself, a strategy used by Moscow later on). He also was in charge of putting down anti-mongol rebellions which he did several times. I would argue that he's the most important, but surely on of the most.

i don't agree on Alexander being the most important figure in the history of Rus State. If we are talking about the medieval Rus, i would say Yaroslav the Great was the most influential, or Vladimir the Saint as the one who brought Orthodoxy to Rus. if we are talking later periods, then it is Peter the Great, who brought Naval Sciences and Architecture to Rus, connecting it to the West. Or Catherine the Great, who conquered the whole south of Ukraine, founding such important cities as Odessa, Mariupol, Simpheropol, Sevastopol. Ivan The Terrible could also be called the most important man in establishing Russia as we now know it, crushing the democratic Novgorod Republic, conquering Livonia and Kazan. Alexander Nevsky is reverred so much purely because of ideological reasons. For russian church he is a Saint, a leader who resisted the Catholics and succumbed to more tolerant Mongols. Danilo Galitsky is a MUCH MORE prominent figure of the same time period.

    • @manyulgarprsch
      @manyulgarprsch 2 роки тому

Ivan the terrible opened the gates to Russia becoming an empire when he conquered Kazan, as one of the rivers who had its confluence there was navigable and one could go there straight to Siberia where no civilization had arrived yet.

      No.
      1. Alexander Nevsky for preserving Russia
      2. Ivan the Terrible for turning Russia into empire
Peter I went to destroy real Russia. He also abolished the Patriarchate and made priests spy on their flock. The House of Holstein-Gottorp and the communists elevated Peter I to his present status.

They use for this purpose some world play in the Primary Chronicles written in 1110 Kiev. Because the author does not specifically call the other slavs Rus, but mentions that the Polianians were calling themselves Rus, hence, they believe their lands were inhabited by special kind of slavs. Master Slavs. However this i a wishful thinking.

Nevsky was a stepson and a sworn brother to khans of the Golden Horde, part Ossetian and part Kipchak turk by his blood. He looked nothing like a guy in Eisenstein's movie, for example. Most Nevsky image today is a myth created during USSR to increase patriotism and quasi-russian ethnos. Plus a myth the communists created of the "Mongol yoke". Lol and it is not Nevsky who "allowed Russians to stay Russian", everyone who was a vassal of the horde was allowed to keep their religion and ways, that is what the Russians used to enhance their Byzantine culture and then Ivan III cleverly cheated khans and bought yarlyks for ruling russian kingdoms (yes, there were many at that point) from the money that he was collecting from other Russian dukes "for the khan".
