dude this game is literally my most nostalgic game. i played when i was 5yrs old at my brothers. instantly and forever i was sucked in to the videogame world. this was before NES. i loved NES, but i always thought about space harrier.. and wondered when something that cool was going to come out for NES. pretty much had to wait for super. i never thought i would say this, and Super nintendo is still better than genesis, but master system kicks NES's ass!! only reason nintendo was bigger was marketing, all the master system games are better than the nintendo versions. i just ordered a master system with space harrier from ebay! lets do this!!
Seeing how it is done, it is double commendable how the port into the master system was done, amazing the tile background management to make up for the lack of sprites and scaling!
Impressive! It took me almost 7 years! I was 9 when i got it though. One week in the summer of 94 i said enough and played it all night each night till i beat it. Then after that i finaly beat wonder boy in monster land. But to this day thats the only time i have beaten each game. Very hard to do.
@@Badspinache I never beat MonsterLand till resent. Although I was impressed with myself for beating the original WonderBoy, and collecting all the dolls to get to the final levels. The game that took me longest to finish was Phantasy Star 1. Took me like a year to figure out that to get to Lassics castle you have to go through Baya Malay tower. Get to the top, rasie the prism, and give Meyu the nuts.
They used Background tiles to simulate the sprites of the original. The Master System would have flickered super-bad if they tried actual Sprites. I think its a good effort but the Turbo Grafx was the best version before 32 bit
One of the first games I grinded to finish....if I died I restarted, if I didn't get an extra life from the bonus stages I was pissed because I needed every one to not die in the last few stages....I promise it looked like this guy died sixteen times, lol!
Space harrier on the sms was the perfect high difficulty for me and I had a 50/50 chance of beating it each time so I wouldn’t really want to get this good at it to be honest.
This was the very first game I remember playing. No, I'm not old, my dad had the Sega Saturn and had a copy of the The Sega Ages, so I played it. I loved how everything looked nice and smooth, sure, the Master System version looks and plays worse, but it has the lore, AND THE FINAL BOSS.
I was born playing this game and I’ll die playing this game

I had this for the SMS when I was a kid.. Took me about a six months to master this game to the damn near perfection level required to finish it.
I still have my original copy!

Stage 18: That looks like a review of all the bosses stage.....or a final exam of all the bosses........
Hayo Oh.....he's like the boss of all the bosses you beat on each level....
space harrier noway brings a little tear2 the eye,u just forget about alot of these games thanx for memories u bloody legend
Wonderful. Lovely Master System
The first time I got to Revi was jaw dropping.
The music on each level sounds sad...yet hopeful and full of desperation......

i remember when this first came out when it was an simulator arcade game
That game looks like acid trip made in MS Paint.
"I got it, how about we make the final boss the same color as the fireballs, so people won't know what to dodge!"

My technique was to perfect the early stages so I had a cushion of lives to enter the later stages.
Good ole classic
Great game. I always wondered why, in this version, they put a smiley face on the back of his gun
Just sprites. Buy yeah, looks funni :)

The Sega Ages Space Harrier Arcade version for Switch is amazing. 60 fps.
