Thanks for the review. I have the 2010 GS upgraded for off-road. I’ve had TKC80, Anakee Wild, tractionator Adventures and Shinko 805/4. Just coming to the end of my AX41’s. For this bike they are the best dual purpose tire. Anakee was very good too but screams on the highway and gets worse over time. Tractionators were great in the rear, especially for wear, terrible on the front. TKC80 was a good tire but has been well surpassed in most areas with better technology. The AX41 are very good on and off road and in wet conditions. No, they don’t last forever, but I believe if you plan on any off-road adventure you buy tires for worst conditions not the best. 3000 miles for an averagely aggressive rider is really pretty good. I could melt TKC80’s in 1000 miles. If you wanna play off the tarmac and do so with confidence get the right dual purpose tire. I live in New Zealand so 3000 miles is not going to leave me stuck on some cross continent journey. If I was over in Merica, I’d probably put a tractionator adventure on the rear and and an AX41on the front for a longer journey with off road sections. On big bikes, the AX41 are the pick of the bunch when it comes to doing everything well. My 2 cents. Thanks again for the review 😀

I have Dunlop trailmax Mission tires on my super tenere, and I've got about 4,500 to 5,000 miles on them, and they look pretty much new. They handle amazing on asphalt and I think they're good off-road but I'm a fairly new off road Rider, so I'm not sure what to expect from a tire. So for example riding through loose gravel I feel like the front is hunting/swimming a little bit, but I've been told that most tires act that way. I probably rode maybe 500 miles off road on these tires and keeping in mind my limited experience, I think they're great off-road as well

I am going to try the Bridgestone's out as my next set of tires. I don't have any problem with the Karoo3 tires I am running, tractionwise, my last rear made it to 4.5k though, I am still on my first front tire at about 40% life left. Awesome video Jeremy...

The guy with only 2,5K on this tyres is that BR dude. In that same vid he says that he runs them on very low psi.
So actually he burns the rubber down and doesn’t realise it.
    Nice honest review, thx!

Thanks for your review. Much appreciated. I think I know who you were talking about with the 3k miles - and I'd probably expect so when it appeared he was 'giving it some'. The detail and explanation that you go through was enough to sell me on trying a set. I have only been through 3 different 80/20 sets on by GS, and now want something (50/50) that is going to give me more confidence on unpaved surfaces. I was going to try the Anakee Wilds, but I hear they are screamers on the pavement. Wish me luck.

Sweet man. You’ll love em! I’ve gone through 3 sets now and plan to keep on buying em!
I recently installed a set of Michelin Road 5’s because I’ll be doing a TON of Highway miles this summer for work. But I miss the knobbies and love having them on for any off roading. Ultimate confidence on these AX41’s. I’ll be reinstalling them in the fall I’m sure.

Glad you did some close up pics of these tires. All the media pics show that the tread is not very deep, but yours show that they have a lot taller lugs. Looking at the wear on the rear, looks like you may have been running a little too much air. Maybe try running around 36 -38 psi and you will get a little more life out of the rear since these are bias ply.

You guys must ride super super gentle and your roads are made with marshmallows. Nearly 6000 miles!!!
I had these on my wife's CB500x - 4000 KILOMETERS one up with minimum luggage - they were done. No burnouts. 60% road. Even taking into account that the rear is a 17 inch rim (assuming you have an 18 inch rim) and wears faster than an 18 - still doesn't add up.
Maybe the compound is more durable in the US. Great tyre - but could I get nearly 6000 miles from them - no way.

    • @CaptMaxADV

Great to hear insights from a more experienced rider. I’m sure it all comes down to the way you use em! In my case, I’m a pretty new rider still, just in my 3rd year. And at about 30,000 miles that I’ve put on her I’m only through 2 full sets of these tires, and currently running the street Pilot Road 5’s with only maybe 25% wear on those.
All told, over those 30,000 + a few miles I got through as follows (estimated):
3,000 Pilot Road 4’s came with bike used.
5,000 Rear Anakee 3 & finished off that original front PR4.
      6,000 First set of Battlax
1,500 More on that BX front
      6,000 Second set of Battlax
1,200 Third Front BX with a brand new rear ready to mount up together next.
2,000 First set of PR 5’s.
You can do the math! 😆 All I can say is I have yet to be met with disappointment on any of my tire choices, and will continue to run the Battlax’s for as long as they’re cheap!

Sounds like you’ve got some good tires! I’m not heavy on the throttle, about 97% of the time.
I think Pedro Mota gives some real world review of these tires on his channel.
They’re definitely stiff tires. But the only knobby tires I’ve ridden, so I don’t know how they compare. I’m still liking them!

@@CaptMaxADV Thanks for the reply. I have a small Honda nx250 that has a 16" rear wheel and this is the only dual sport tire to come out in that size that's available (other than a duro median). I just did about 1,000 miles mostly highway with some twisty roads and dirt roads thrown in, and the center seems to be wearing down pretty fast. I was running 26 psi and now went up to 33. Since its a 16" rear (i assume yours is bigger) and a 280lb bike, do you think 33 would be good or I should go even higher?
The stock rear was a trailwing and recommended psi was 24 in the owners manual

    • @CaptMaxADV
      @CaptMaxADV  4 роки тому +1

These two links provide the best info I've found. It states that max PSI is 35 for these tires themselves, although I run them at 42 per my bike's specs. I'm not sure if you should use their stated max, or the bike wheel's max, but probably the bike's specs. They also come in tube wheel and tubeless applications. My wheels are 17" & 19", and my bike weighs 573lbs wet, plus my entire loadout and person.
I just rode about 1000 road miles on my new ones and the rear definitely shows noticeable wear, but they tend to last 6,000 miles or so from what I've seen.
I really can't answer your question very well, I have no experience running dirt bikes or different tires on lighter bikes. Sorry man, you might have better luck in the forums.

I think you’re getting long mileage out of them because you ride so much pavement. Since you don’t venture off-road as much, you don’t really need the knobs for the majority of your riding. The people who say they get 3,000 miles out of theirs are those who need some knobs left on the tire for off-road riding and can’t afford to ride what is virtually a slick tire that you have at 6,000 miles. You running those tires down to virtual slick road tires is fine since you ride on pavement where the knobs aren’t necessary. The tires are still acceptable to you when the knobs are worn down whereas people who ride mostly off-road have to toss them once the knobs are shot at 3,000 miles. Yes, it’s possible to still run a tire off-road down to the wear bars but most will agree it really sucks and is no fun at all. I’m glad they are working out so well for your situation though. Thanks for the great vid.

Just put them on. Amazing traction on and off road.
Night and day versus the oem death wings. Made the bike handle totally different (so much better). The AX41 took me through a trail that I just didn’t attempt with the oem tires. I actually turned around with the death wings. Once I was through that rough patch found an amazing road to take.
On the street so much more confidence too.
