I was at the concert, quite a moment to be a citizen of NYC, but you really have to hear the produced studio version to get the full impact. This is a sweet version but the original is just at another level
Now you have heard the beautiful and soothing original you must hear the Disturbed version which turns it into something dark and powerful and which impressed Paul Simon enough to give personal praise. The Disturbed video has over a billlion views on YT !!!
I remember a line spoken to me many years ago by a loving, honest, witty guy when we suddenly, luckily, happily found ourselves in the presence of such a beautiful Black woman. Referencing old African marriage customs, he said softly to me, "Trade all my livestock to the Chief! And throw in my little sister!" It was said in high compliment; he was preaching to the choir.
They would be considered "folk music" back then. Folk music kind of evolved into simpler pop music. Of course, something was lost in that evolution over the decades.
Originally, they were Known as Tom and Jerry, but that name didn't catch on in 1964. This FOLK duo evolved to pop by the 70s. This is one of their Folk Songs like HOMEWARD BOUND and SCARBOROUGH FAIR.
Also, it was called "head music". By the time Woodstock happened, people were getting more into music you lie on the bed and listen to with a black light on, instead of "dance music". Until the mid 70s, only Rnb and Funk was dance music, rock had turned into head music.
The studio album of this is from 1965. You should check that one out, too. It's more like folk music and not so much country, but if you're interpreting it that way, it's so cool.
By all means yes. They produced a lot of good music. At the time of this live performance, they were both past their prime. The studio version of this is when they were at their peak, and it's just about perfection.
A small suggestion: with a few exceptions, you should try to seek out the studio recording of most songs for first time listening. As nice as this performance is, it doesn’t compare to the production value released on the album. This goes for (almost) any song.
A never ending debate, and as someone old enough to remember this stuff when it was released I had no option but to hear the studio version time after time on a radio. I watch a lot of reactions and I feel live performances can often show exactly who is singing when there is more than one person, especially groups like The Dramatics, Harold Melvin etc, when those reacting often display more emotions as different members of a group stand out visually, rather than it being a bit of a guessing game if there is no video. I also think a younger and older version can be interesting to compare (Boz Scaggs, Smokie Robinson for example), but reactors don't have time to go into such details.
Its so easy to pick the wrong words. Humans do that on so many levels. But these lads always pick exactly the right words. And then exactly the right way to make those words sound.
Hi Princess. This is a clasdic example of American FOLK music, very far removed from Country music. Folk music was about telling a specific story or a commentary about society, politics, human rights, etc., and setting it to music. The music and delivery were secondary, the LYRICS were primary. Welcome to the world of the Troubador, the musical commentators. I hope you continue to explore American folk music with new eyes. Forget "vibes," enjoy the poetry or prose. Paul Simon was one of the best lyricists of the era. As a fellow New Yorker, he was also one of my guitar coaches. Stay well 😇🌹☺️
Nice to see someone from your generation appreciating This error of music…. I would like to see your reaction to some of America’s Southern rock bands, such as Lynyrd Skynyrd Allman Brothers, Molly Hatchet. That’s American classic Southern rock… and you look fabulous as always always have a great day!!!!
That's how people of this generation learned - they had an attention span of longer than a microsecond and actually listened to these things called lyrics sung by natural voices with no autotune!
Always best to listen to the versions that sold the songs i.e. the studio versions. Live performances are often quite different and frankly, underwhelming.
really like you but STOP abruptly cutting the endings off. This time they hadn't even finished playing and the 500,000 crowd in Central Park, New York erupted. You missed The Beatles' "Now and Then " ending when they took their final bow after 60 years and were faded out and The Beatles sign disappeared. You missed the ending of "Help" when they were initiating a large bird and this time Paul was still playing the guitar. lol
Should I react to more Simon and Garfunkel ?
They don’t have anything nearly as good as this. But looking at Paul Simon separately would be cool!
A Bridge Over Troubled Water, America, Scarborough Fair just off the top of my head check thier greatest hits,, they easily have 10+ legendary songs
@@huhu63uk Yes to bridge over troubled water but that’s about it.
Here is a great song. I'll surprise you. The Bee Gees. ua-cam.com/video/2sN05AMV9gY/v-deo.html
But this is one of the best of all times of all times . The Who. ua-cam.com/video/DhLsC2FpDZk/v-deo.html

"Cecilia" is a kick "The Boxer" is awesome, "Scarborough Fair/Canticle" is beautirful. You should listen to the studio version of "Sounds of Silence"
Now you have heard the beautiful and soothing original you must hear the Disturbed version which turns it into something dark and powerful and which impressed Paul Simon enough to give personal praise. The Disturbed video has over a billlion views on YT !!!
"The Boxer" very unique. Simon and Garfunkle were actually most often categorized as "folk - rock."
Your beauty is arresting! Thank you Dear for this great reaction...❤
❤❤

FR. First time I thought of motorboating while listening to this song. 😛😂

Love Simon and Garfunkel 🥰
Scarborough Fair (studio version) 🙏
¡Saludos, desde Argentina!

Great reaction beautiful Princess. God bless u .
You should react to the Everly brothers, they were a big influence on the Beatles and Simon and Garfunkel. Their harmonies cannot be matched.
Check out the original studio track…
They started singing together when they were 11 years old.
Mrs. Robinson, My Little Town. Paul Simon solo... Slip Sliding Away, Mother and Child Reunion, Late In The Evening...
The Boxer

Try David Bowie's live cover of 'America'- an original song by S + G. Concert for New York City 2001.
No need for fireworks and lasers…just two good voices.
If you love the song you have to listen to "sound of silence"by disturbed
You've got to react to Simon And Garfunkel's "The Boxer", Paul is a genius writer from the 60's.
The ORIGINAL AND BEST!!!!
Very nice reaction.
Paul Simon is one of the great poets of his generation. Next should be "The Boxer" and "Homeward Bound".

Folk-rock more than country. I think this is the Central Park reunion, performed many years after they broke up.
Both are, New York City born and raised

MRS. ROBINSON, and SCARBOROUGH FAIR/CANTICLE are required listening. Folk/Rock, but NOT country.

60s folk rock music. It has been played in many movies and a lot of singers copied it.
They never had a bad song/performance. Listen to Mrs. Robinson.
I usually prefer the studio tracks for this duo. Art Garfunkles high notes aren't as loud live.
The single version sounds more impressive.
Always best to listen to the versions that sold the songs i.e. the studio versions. Live performances are often quite different and frankly, underwhelming.
NOT country, FOLK!
OK

Not missing much, the most overrated duo in history
Songs like Bridge Over Troubled Water and The Boxer you mean?
