I’m in the minority that doesn’t really like Babycat very much. I love Ombré Leather, and I love Absolute Aphrodisiac by Initio. Maybe this’ll still be worth checking out as another addition to those softer smoother leather frags.
My husband likes Tom Ford Oud Wood and I like it on him (not on me) so I haven't tried other TF woody or leathery scents, mainly because I am into gourmands now. Smoky is great though, so this may be tempting. But maybe I would stick to Babycat? Also, I am now obsessed with niche houses, so ...
It’s about time some American brand copied Babycat. Everyone is always going on and on and on about that one but no one can ever find it anywhere. It’s not my taste at all but a lot of people seem to be obsessed with it.
After Tom Ford sold the company , there are no original releases nor interesting ones. Everything is overpriced and they either bring back discontinued releases or out flankers after flankers or "stronger" intepretations of the old good ones. It is not a coincidence that this one is inspired of baby cat.
Honestly, hasnt the brand lost its Magic after Tom ‘left the building’? To me the hype and the High pricing looses its validation when the founder has dropped out completely and sold Estee Lauder which is not luxury on the same level - or am I wrong???
Estee Lauder has always owned the fragrance and beauty division of Tom Ford ever since he launched the brand, but yeah, now that he left, things are definitely going to be different.
Yeah you’re wrong. Estée Lauder has always owned Tom Ford Beauty, he licensed them his name & had some creative input. He just sold them the fashion side of the business so now they own the whole thing.
I totally agree. I LOOOVED Jo Malone but after Jo Malone left, it’s never been the same. Her French Lime Blossom was one of my favorite perfumes of all time and I still get upset that it’s discontinued.
Picked this up at Boots in the UK for £100 for 100ml - Babycat is currently £180 for 75ml & £260 for 125ml so its less than half the price of Babycat 😅
@@pavelvalentinray135Depends on who you ask. - as mentioned in the video Sebastian didn’t seem to have any problem with longevity. Also sometimes you don’t want a fragrance that lasts for 18 hours & that you cant get rid of

Wow...what a nose you have. It took you 2 seconds to figure out the entire fragrance. I like the idea of bringing back jewels that are discontinue or impossible to find. It shows that companies are finally listening to the fragrance community and not only to sell numbers. If they want to release their own interpretation some long gone DNA, the more power to them.
I love Sonia Constant. I have of course Ombre Leather Parfum, Narciso Rodriguez Bleu Noir AND my favourite fragrance EVER: Van Cleef & Arpels - Moonlight Patchouli. She is amazing.
If it smells anything like Baby Cat I definitely would not like it because BabyCat literally smells awful on me 🤢I got BabyCat from a friend who travels. I think it smells horrible and it gave me a migraine…
That happens to me with a lot of the super hyped fragrances. I’ve just had to accept that my taste is very different from most people’s. I hear descriptions that sounds great and then what I smell is nowhere even close to what they described. For example when people mention clean, soapy aldehydes, it often smells like urine to my nose. I guess life is just funny like that, we all have our different perspectives.
Good to see you my man. I have two other tabs with your recent livestreams all queued up and ready to view (Top 10 Date Night Battle & Day Party) after watching Sebastian. Can’t wait to get my nose on this one! I love the original ombré leather on my husband and even on myself when I want something to make me feel confident and bold
Why do 99% of the perfumers belong to like 3 different corporations? I don’t like to see that, there’s too many monopolies nowadays. There should really be more competition.
I am a bit disappointed since Tom Ford Fragrances often offer something original, even though it is not as great on the recent releases. But I didn’t expect that they release something similar to a well-loved fragrance 😕
I have a few bottles of Tom ford noir extreme parfum and ombré leather both are sooo good. Idk if she has done costa azzura or the original noir extreme but I have those and love them as well. I would love f’ing fabulous but I don’t think I’m gonna find it for cheap anymore
@@ThePerfumeGuy sure we can check it out here it's being carried in Boots UK. See what the Babycat vibe was like. Only thing lacking apparently is the longevity
Fragrance is a license business. So whatever Este Lauder, Coty or J&J decide to do with these brands, their main focus is making the most money using the cheapest ingredients and investing as little in marketing as they need to maximize revenue. It’s a wonder that these brands like Tom Ford even still exist.
I am not surprised as there is a market for these high end fragrances. It all started with Creed and now there is wide choice for those who can afford. The positive evolution is that Designer brands try to get better and putting more effort into their perfume products.
Fair to say the already known TF hasn't been TF for a long while now. Interestingly enough about this version, how quickly it took a nose dive within 2-2.5 hours in. It would receive less flack it was named differently.

Interesting! I would have never expected Babycat. At least it's similar to a perfume that's kind of hard to get in the US... Often when I try new perfumes, I feel they are at least echoes of others. It's why I prefer smaller brands now, like Imaginary Authors, Gallagher, 4160 Tuesdays. There's a certain amount of creativity, and if there's any recollection back to other perfumes, at least it's somewhat creative spin, and I'm not paying LVMH or padding other big corps' pockets.
I was taken aback the same way as you when I smelled Babycat! As it dried down on my skin it smelled like an edt version of Babycat over freshly shaven skin (with old fashioned shaving cream). I really like it a lot but have Babycat and Vanilla Barka.
They definitely, intentionally copied them. However, I do like Ombré leather They should have remixed the ombré leather. I'd like to try a leather, vanilla, boozy perfume. Ok. Now I'm ready to see what black lacquer smells like.
I enjoy a well blended leather but the standard Ombré Leather was a no for me. My favorite leather is Terenzi Spirito Fiorentino. Leather can quickly become a bit too much if it’s not blended with other bold notes that get to shine too. I do love Tom Ford’s White Suede and I would love to see new flankers for that one but it is older so I doubt they would make new flankers.
I've been enjoying the fragrances that contain "Ambrofix". ❤ Something about it just smells so good to my nose. I'll definitely be picking this one up out of curiosity.
Wait, what?! Just when I was feeling special due to the unavailability of babycat in the states…now everyone in my neighborhood would be reeking of that gorgeous scent
The opening is very much like Babycat, but the spices and the vanille are still different (less sweet? More « serious »?), then as it dries down, let’s say an hour on and so, there is a suedey/coconuty vibe going on which last until the end.. it’s very ok for a Sephora fragrance, but it’a a pass for me since Babycat is in my opinion better and in the same ball park..
It was funny when you smelled it and the first words out of your month were "Babycat?" Only someone who knows fragrance would know what you're talking about. Would you say it's a dupe? I would love to buy Babycat, but I have to pay my rent...lol.
I wouldn't say it's a dupe but it really reminds me of Babycat. I think this will get the rollout everywhere so I suggest you sample it. I even got 2 compliments on the first full day of wearing.
When I heard about this release and saw the mentions of cardamom and vanilla, I thought of Noir Extreme. Now that you mention YSL Babycat it seems like it's indeed going in that direction more or less. Curious to smell it when I find it somewhere.
I’m not a big frag collector but I already have Althair and silky woods , I’m female early 30s would this be a good addition or redundant? I’m between it and Vanille fatale!
Wait, wait, wait... if we already have Babycat should go out of our way to try this? Btw, love Ombre Leather. I'll eventually get to it. 😅 Edit: you kind of answered further in the video. 😉
Interesting will definitely test this out for myself soon and see the differences and or similarities to babycat, vanagloria, and other fragrances in this genre. Even if it’s redundant I’ll still pick this up and wear it casually.
Sounds like this one is the most feminine leaning of the line? May be interesting to try out! Personally, I still rock Ombré Leather as a woman but it’s cool to see a more imaginative flanker than the Parfum.
I think vanilla perhaps is a femme leaning note but there's loads of leather and spices and woods so I think it's quite unisex whereas the original leans more masculine to me! :)
fascinating! I wonder if the smokiness is coming from some of the new synthetic ouds. some of the ouds can be so leathery, some more berry like, some super woody and some smoky. I think some of the big synthetic houses are starting to make different oud chemicals. Will be interesting to see the ingredients list on this.
