- Toyah 'It's a Mystery' Willcox plays supermodel Marigold, who life breaks down after hearing the advertisers won't use her actual voice in any of her work.
This seldom seen episode, one of the very last made, has slipped under the radar but for my money contains all the smells, sights and sounds of a classic TOTU.
(And selling an E-Type Jaguar for £900! Oh my lord, worth £90,000 now)

This gives a true and stark insight into the modeling and advertising industry. When your beauty fades, or you're dispensable, you're nothing to the agents, photographers or producers. It makes me so sad.
So true!
Actually, this is true in all areas of life. Once a woman becomes a certain age she becomes invisible.
@@dianeharbin9346 In my opinion because for decades men have been more dominant in industries, and pushed women to the front both advertising their beauty designing this expiry, and it always held. A huge majority of men are invisible too 'over certain age', unless they made name for themselves, but they never get projected the in the same manner. Hopefully industry will continue to transition and recognise many thousands of women older are beautiful and smart. That will happen through upcoming generation, not while the older dominant men still exist. ✌️
🤣😂I LOST it when she spoke it out in the cockney! Oh man that was great.

Nice work !
Wow I have hit three or four seriousLy dark episodes in a row tonight. Toyah Wilcox is gorgeous here and so young! Brilliant work. So much talent in a small frame.
love the posh disclaimer at the end 😂😂
Cheers for the heads up 🤣👍
"I was so much older then, I'm younger then that now" Bob Dylan" Toyah and Robert Fripp are so delightful together! TLA!
Toyah Wilcox is as absolutely gorgeous as ever. Bloody really talented and beautiful.
Blindingly beautiful.
Willcox is much more attractive without makeup. I always remember this episode for the catchy song.
People / women don't always wear make-up to be attractive; sometimes it's to ward others off, more like war-paint?! Being 'attractive' can be a hassle.
@@TheMercury-13 I'd love to be hassled for being attractive. Quality problems.
Thanks Adam Buxton
The twist was underwhelming, but Toyah Willcox and those blue boots made this worth watching.
Twist was good too; she's still neurotically obsessed with her looks, yet it doesn't pay off
Poor parot 😪..it was really distressed when Toyah started kicking off
I noticed that today on tv when i watched episode.
cheers mate, i remember this episode, but never remembered it was toyah lol
Tacsense no worries 👍
Thanks Steve-this a very powerful tale of the loss of fame added to jealousy!
Fascinating eh? Cheers Tom 🙏
Insecurity; someone that gets their self-worth solely from being young & 'attractive' to others, is set for a fall. Quite a deep episode from TotU!
The house of Guerlain is, of course, totally unconnected with the events in this film 😂
@Andrew Armand I thought she was OK tbh; more real than some actors you get today..
Great uploads thanks steve
Coool great find by me great upload by you Steve!! Thank you.
My pleasure & best wishes to you.
Thank you for posting this series.
Love the film on this.
R.I.P. Ralph Bates.
Would love to have seen her play Janis Joplin. I bet she would've done a bang-up job...
nice one toyah did not like the wig but acting wise very good keep on
Did Marigold make a deal with the devil? She never aged from 1969-1981 lol.Neither did Sophie for that matter.Toyah Wilcox very cute & sexy in that figure-hugging blue dress.Good episode.
Toyah Wilcox is eternally beautiful 💖
there is a bent car dealer in the credits - literally !!
I'm totally amazed by how similar Toyah looks in this compared to Theresa Russell in the 1980 movie Bad Timing. Obviously she's not quite as beautiful as Theresa but she looks uncannily like her in this episode.
Beauty is subjective.
Lovely figure she had.
I love this episode it's magic mum you may like it also from sue
'perfume makers are totally unconnected with conning people out of huge amounts for tiny bottles that poor women in developing countries make for a pittance in sweatshop conditions'
Err.....
Well said. I don't get why people let themselves be suckered by poncey perfume ads, strange world.
Reminds me of Siobhan Fahey..
Automatic captions does not write Marigolds speech...
Not even a ton of gold can make me like her sound!🐷🐷🐷
Whose?
Great ending , it called justice .
So she was judged by her looks, then she judged Paul by his, after the accident.
What year was it made?
WhT is the meaning at the end?!!! 😕😐
Hmmm, I think I’ve gotten what happened now!
Marigold put all of her efforts into her looks in effort to win back Paul, as her looks were all she had. But, Paul is now blind and therefore cannot appreciate her beauty. He just hears her ugly speed /accent and his new wife has a beautiful, soft voice /accent, so there is no competition. She's totally outgunned
It's who you are not what you look like that counts the most, although... what attracts someone in the beginning, or first impressions do count.
But I will say, a persons speech makes a huge difference.
It doesn't matter what someone looks like, if they're stupid, brash, have a foul mouth, and are ignorant and prejudice it makes them ugly.
Marigold is right on hating the woman giving her voice to the character she embodies.
Displaying a whole range of emotions, I have to say I was astonished by Toyah's
quite superb acting, really impressive and quite brilliant. Never had an inkling.
A hideously disfigured face as well as blind, Paul eventually got his just desserts,
shame it took ten years to happen rather than soon after he dumped her.
But why was Sophie was with him?
Greg AVFC 69/70 Jones So many questions huh? Happy you enjoyed the episode 👍
Yes, Toyah Wilcox....a great actress and she's a talented singer too....punk rock was her thing in the early eighties. She was great in Jubilee as the pyromaniac!! And yes, Paul did get his just desserts. The price of fame!!
