One of my FAVORITE parts of Moulin Rouge and the Hindi Sad Diamonds is probably my most played song besides the Elephant Love Medley,. Loved seeing the full Choreo! It's so GOOD!
You got to rehearse over and over and over again until you get it right. If you have passion for music and dancing it takes a lot of work when In the end it pays off.... And if you have somebody who's hot on you they just want you to get it right they don't want you to fail they want you to succeed so go out there and give it all you got but never give up on yourself if you fall get up and try again
so true, that was my main problem with this movie, the ultra fast editing, they had paid some much attention to details but we could barely see them in warp 10 speed! that is why I had originally put on youtube the alternative Hindi musical scene from the DVD but youtube deleted it ...
Don't get me wrong. Moulin Rouge is probably one of my most favourite films ever. But as an Indian I can say with full certainty......................... WE DON'T DO THAT !!
@hugegosorry I disagree with you completely. The choreography is fantastic. It's a Hindi dance of sexuality and sensuality. Neither of those things are vulgar except to prudish people.
This is a film which gives the Moulin Rougue a respected view along with the famous Can Can dance, but in reality their adult stage displays of topless dancers which draws the foreign tourists to queue up outside, they are there because such public stage displays are banned where they live, for instance, when the Moulin Rougue visited Australia in 2019 they were told that the girls must dance with their breasts covered up to comply with the country's laws on public indecency, this also applies to the UK where i live, very odd that no one can explain to me why the girls need not want to dance bare breasted with male dancers in front of a public audience made up of 98% foreign tourists.
+ayesha uddin in the movie they only used a part of the song and added the english lyrics sang by Kidman about diamonds, so I guess it makes more sense. You can check here the final version on the film ua-cam.com/video/v814jYAb8Lk/v-deo.html
@Bumblybee256 why do you want to make a mountain out of a molehill? do u really have that much free time on your hands? i'm not racist in the least, i have tons of white friends. "latkas and jhatkas" is just a very indian concept and western dancing has not picked it up yet... i simply meant that if you're gonna dance "indian" your movements need to be more sudden, not as willowy as the girls in this video. and honey, if i was nasty, i could've said a LOT more to you than i just did!
@delkitten Yes, sending two messages has taken up heaps of my time. You didn't say western, you said white. Maybe I'll leave a bunch of comments saying 'brown people really haven't got the concept of sanitation', see how you take that. Oh my, I'm impressed by your capacity to be nasty! Why on earth would you tell me that?
This is sooo not how Bollywood dance is ...I mean the movements are cool and they did a good job to appeal to western audience ,but the moves are just gibberish that don't match with the lyrics .I doubt any of them even knew what the song is about and what the title "chamma chamma" means ...
It´s a USA movie from an Australian director about a cabaret in Paris on the XIX century. And this dance sequence is on the stage of the cabaret. It´s NOT a Bollywood dance I think you should watch the movie, really. It´s amazing
I'm sure they looked it up, but their characters probably doesn't know what it means, because Christian just blurted out that the play he wrote for Spectacular, Spectacular is setted in India while he was under pressure. It would make sense that the dance doesn't go with the lyrics, because it's possible that their characters doesn't know what it means and wants to put their cabaret twist to it. Also, they cut some of this song to add in sort of a reprise of Sparkling Diamonds.
@delkitten Oh look, more avoidance. Is 'conspiracy theorist' just a name you call people you don't like? I'll leave you to mutter away to yourself, bye bye.
I know this was in 2000 but I would like to have seen more representation, not just white men & white women doing an Indian dance. This is cultural appropriation and there was no reason some of the cast could not have been Hindi, Pakistani, Asian. Not just all White people.
There are actually some Asians and black people in the cast and ensemble, just to let you know. Also, don't throw that buzzword around. Participating in Bollywood dancing doesn't equal cultural appropriation.
I wish in the movie we got to see the whole dance...it paired with the wonderful costumes would have been amazing!
This is awesome choreography....Just too good!!!
i can’t imagine how difficult this was
The film was edited so stylistically. Everything was chop chop. Here we see so much more. Enjoyed it.
One of my FAVORITE parts of Moulin Rouge and the Hindi Sad Diamonds is probably my most played song besides the Elephant Love Medley,. Loved seeing the full Choreo! It's so GOOD!
That was so cool. Love to have seen this whole version in costumes.
The dancers are the same in the final cast, only difference was the one blond woman who was the stand in for " Satine". and the woman at 1:31 is Nini.
This was my fav scene in the film. My other favourite was the diamond dogs. The 5 main can dan dancers! Waking thru the mirrors
i love looking at this rehearsal, and love this song too! the choreography reminds me of Madonna's Vogue in her Girlie Show.
i learned this dance and i used to make my stepsister do this with. it was actually fun

thanx mate....love you guys too....cheers..enjoy the song
Thank you for sharing this!
god how they hold the women up like that is amazing!!
The Indian Dance is way better, so much more feeling and passion in the original one
that was awesome!!!
Awesome choreography!
I fuckin' love you, India.
-Prudish American of English descent.
Makes me wish I were a professional dancer .^_^.
Perfect!
What's sad is in the movie you see pracitically nothing of this dance.
well nicole kidman had a bad injury during filming so they had to change it
Ben...Nicole Kidman isn't in this dance. That's her standin.
so true, that was my main problem with this movie, the ultra fast editing, they had paid some much attention to details but we could barely see them in warp 10 speed!
that is why I had originally put on youtube the alternative Hindi musical scene from the DVD but youtube deleted it ...
@Zaffy7 Thanks for the tip on Chamma, Chamma version from China Gate. It is incredible too!
Don't get me wrong. Moulin Rouge is probably one of my most favourite films ever. But as an Indian I can say with full certainty......................... WE DON'T DO THAT !!
Love the song in the movie… but the dance was definitely an exaggerated play on true bollywood dance. The choppy hands lol
Well, the movie portrays how these shows in the turn of the century Paris were more of an evocation of their ideas of Asian cultures at the time
I am your biggest fan of yours
My pleasure.... :)
this is brilliant. im white italian and i ge tthis. hehe, really good at this they are.
@Tilda2530 no she's not. The blond woman that they pick up at the end is doing her part.
@Tilda2530 No she isn't. Jenny Wilson, who plays the CanCan girl "Historic" filled in for Nicole in this scene.
@hugegosorry I disagree with you completely. The choreography is fantastic. It's a Hindi dance of sexuality and sensuality. Neither of those things are vulgar except to prudish people.
so cool =D

1:18 he probably loved rehearsing that
It's the original cast
great :D
😍
@Bumblybee256 finally, she's shutting up! hallelujah
@delkitten Oh, avoidance of the question. Would never have seen that coming.....
you can tell they changed lotsof this dancein the movie
well nicole kidman had a bad injury during filming so they had to change it
@zashleyrulesall Very true!
is nicole kidman in this clip ?
@Bumblybee256 actually, i take that back.... don't stop replying
your silliness amuses me
RoesMRodriguezMoran
1:16 lol that couple awkwardly pretending to have sex... xD
why everyone moving hands like that???
@Bumblybee256 say what you want, it's true
besides, i apologized in before opening my mouth didn't i?
Would probably be accused of cultural appropriation if it was made today.... le sigh. x
@Bpham0609 seeing as how 90% of professional dancers are gay (I know because I was one of that 90%) I doubt he was all that thrilled about it.
justice done to Indian dance - sensuous and sexy... :)
I guess this is for the musical, not the movie...
Incorrect.
This was good but the dance sequence doesn't go with the words of the song the dance sequel is completely different to what is being said in the song
+ayesha uddin in the movie they only used a part of the song and added the english lyrics sang by Kidman about diamonds, so I guess it makes more sense. You can check here the final version on the film ua-cam.com/video/v814jYAb8Lk/v-deo.html

Nicole Kidman is QUITE the dancer. Who knew?
Ben Schaeffer that's not her. It's her standin.
That's not Nicole Kidman. That dancer played the Can Can dancer Historic, and served as Nicole's stand in.
@delkitten Yes, sending two messages has taken up heaps of my time. You didn't say western, you said white. Maybe I'll leave a bunch of comments saying 'brown people really haven't got the concept of sanitation', see how you take that.

1:18 bottom left orner so wrong....
World renowned directors are surprisingly horrible with camcorders. :-))
dance is good but they did not match with songs beat,It would be like energetic like the songs original dance chama chama
RAHUL MOHANTA that’s because moulin rouge had a different version to the actual song, with different, more exaggerated, beats.
@delkitten Oh I see, so that makes saying racist things ok. Just say 'sorry' beforehand. Lol. Don't mistake nastiness for honesty, dear.
This is sooo not how Bollywood dance is ...I mean the movements are cool and they did a good job to appeal to western audience ,but the moves are just gibberish that don't match with the lyrics .I doubt any of them even knew what the song is about and what the title "chamma chamma" means ...

this is not Bollywood. It's Indian inspired.. and it's very well done.
Shut up
how come the men are more graceful than the women.. the women in video seem robotic to me
@delkitten Oh look, more avoidance. Is 'conspiracy theorist' just a name you call people you don't like? I'll leave you to mutter away to yourself, bye bye.
Ummm...the dance is really good and all but the steps dont really match what is being said in the song...
i'm sorry to say the concept of "latkas and jhatkas" is completely lost on white people
I know this was in 2000 but I would like to have seen more representation, not just white men & white women doing an Indian dance. This is cultural appropriation and there was no reason some of the cast could not have been Hindi, Pakistani, Asian. Not just all White people.

This is my least favorite dance sequence in the movie.
@delkitten racist
