Thank you for talking about Covid concerns. It seems like everyone I know is acting like it's not an issue anymore but it still is for my home. I feel less alone with it seeing you continue to be proactive
My covid precautions haven’t changed since this all started. Still masked, still socially distanced ,still restricting time spent in shops/crowds etc. My health, my choice. Covid is seriously spiking here in England. Every time I speak to friends, they’ve either just had it or just got it…sooo. The colour, and the neckline of the garment really suit you…love to see a bit more done. Wow! I think you can be really proud of yourself for persevering with that. It looks really good.
I am the same. My sister is immune compromised and has so many allergies to regular drugs that the doctor wanted her to wait. Her heart stops with a lot of medications. So I mask and keep my distance. My next door neighbour just had covid and is recovering. It is not over by any means.
I’m so used to sewing with cotton and linen that the “floppy “ fabrics intimidate me too… but you did it! Think basting is probably key to fabrics like that…. Super pretty blouse!
I have to agree with you. I have a bemberg rayon to make into slips for my 40s dresses. It’s just sitting on the shelf. Linen, cotton please and thank you but slippery flippery fabric is just intimidating.
The funny thing is that my sister started sewing with these kinds of slippery stretchy fabrics and she finds cotton type really difficult to sew now because " they don't MOVE " according to her.
If it helps future Nicole: check out doing "full bicep adjustment" for arms patterns that are too small across the bicep but okay at the armscythe. A looooong time ago I made a coat that someone also made on reddit and they did this adjustment and its been *amazing* for me, as someone with larger arms.
There's a great book called Ahead of the Curve by Jenny Rushmore of Cashmerette that shows you how to diagnose and fix common fit concerns like biceps, hips, busts, etc. It's an excellent resource with great visuals to actually see what the concern is and how the fix addresses it.
Aunt Jo was the only person I have ever known who was really, really into lapped seams. She would cut a narrow facing out of very, very thin cloth and face the top piece. Then she would roll it over just a hair so the seam of the facing was not on the edge. Then she lapped it and trimmed the under side of the thin cloth. Did that make sense? In any case, it looked amazing. Your finished blouse is really attractive and suits you beautifully.
The fact that you have never done a side zip before, even though you have done so many advanced projects, makes me feel so much better about my own sewing journey! I was getting discouraged because I usually have to learn some new skill for every sewing project, even though I have been sewing for years.
Oh that's gorgeous! I love the Shiny Penny fabric. I'm going to torture myself the beading on a 1920s dress 😅 I saw a 1980s reproduction of a 1920s dress at the local antique store... and then Nicole had that 1920s undergarments video... and now I have hot pink rayon and lots of other goodies on their way to my house 😳
I also didn't get any sewing done for a whole 3 weeks. But for me it was because my landlord tried to illegally evict me again for the fifth time. This time I had to get the Vermont Council for Independent Living and Disability Rights Vermont involved. Two government agencies that help disabled people keep their housing. After that was all settled I didn't feel comfortable in my apartment anymore so I had to move my furniture around. Tonight, the night you post this, my first time getting back to sewing in 3 weeks. I made a flounce, and I'm currently trying to figure out how to permanently set the pleats in so that I can wash and wear dress and still have the pleats stay in the flounce.
I heard your grandmother. She was hanging out with my grandmother and gossiping about how you're a much better granddaughter than I am because you added the paper piece while I am far too lazy. I think there was some ghostly tea and cookies involved, but I couldn't quite tell because Nana was saying that I don't store patterns neatly at all.
Love the copper colour on you! Makes your eyes pop really beautifully. Silk is often easier to work with than poly so you might be through the worst of it!
Just got back from vacation and catching up on videos while working on a bicycle sweater. Thought "it's knit, basic rib stitch, I can do this..." got to the collar and after several attempts and restarts got to the point of 'eh, if somebody is looking that closely at my neck they're probably a vampire and not interested in my stitches.' and just started fudging it best I can. Also, even knitted buttonholes are a b***ch. Long story short, I'm team 100% appreciative of the 'struggle is real' portion of the videos.
Yes, the honesty is good! I like to know that someone who makes amazing gowns and other projects can still have struggles and techniques they haven't tried before. That fabric is gorgeous and the look could really go elegant if you have a need to dress up. Great job!
Needle thoughts... Microtex have very sharp points, work well for tightly woven fabrics. (I just bought some for fine woven rayon). Universal have slightly less sharp points, general use. Stretch needles have ball/blunt points, designed to go between fibres rather than through them, for knits. So they should all have nice smooth shafts, it's more about the point profiles :)
If it makes you feel any better I just spent three weeks making NINE different versions of the same Houppelande collar for one garment and just finally got it sewn on and correct TODAY…… 9 different collars. All hand sewn…… girl. It was Much. 🤦🏼♂️
It was pleasant chatting with you about disabled issues during that time, you kinda helped improve a rough day. I also got the needed nudge to work on my bailing twine hat. I got to try that bit for getting a straight line by pulling out a single thread too. It ended up helping me cut down my mock-up fabric into manageable pieces for cutting things out as well as estimating yardage for my linen order. The historical pattern I’m following ended up with incredibly unhelpful instructions even the French ones (thanks to my French speaking friend). It was nice to get something underway despite my stress level making my executive dysfunction go haywire. I feel like I’m still going forward and honestly your videos and garments have been helping me remember progress isn’t always linear. I do hope I can get some Disability Pride Month artwork and videos up before the month’s up tho. Recently I read the novelization of Re-Animator and it was excellent and though I feel sad for finishing it the day I used my credit I finally read Matilda for the first time. Kate Winslet recorded the audible version of the novel and it’s incredibly fun and difficult to put down once you start. Watches, I started rewatching Chucky but, it being inaccessible to blind individuals took the wind out of my sails despite some characters being incredibly relatable. We also watched the 1987 Adventures in Babysitting with audio description which made a already incredibly fun movie more enjoyable Since it’s out of budget my NYC trip got canceled and we likely won’t be going further than the stable I’ve been both a hand and lesson student at. The Arabian mare that has adopted me was being extra protective of me to the other horses this week and really loving to me. The quarter horse I actually ride was also the most agreeable he’d been in months and I figured some cool stuff out with him this week. I’m seeing about taking a weaving class for my RDR2 Arthur Morgan cosplay since I want it to be historically accurate but, also hold up to horses. (They’ll sometimes playfully latch onto your clothes a 5yr QH gelding picked me up by my suspenders) also it’s a small business and the owner was really kind to me when I went by her shop prepandemic. If I go anywhere that’s not those 2 places it’ll hopefully be to a healthy home for my mom SD and I which has been a long time coming though I’m tentatively going to try and put a little away from art sales to try emphasis on try to take a trip up to NYC to finally meet my fellow disabled actor friend that’s played a big part alongside the farm, disabled acting classes and close friends in figuring out myself and developing some strong confidence. Don’t know how I’ll make it happen but, it will happen
This came out super cute! Perfect vacation wear. The colour looks great on you, and so shiny! And erasing the Star Wars chemise off of my to-do list was also satisfying. Save that for another time.
I really love the shiny penny fabric, and it looks great both in this pattern, and on you :) "Squidgey-widgey, floopy-doopy" is probably the best fabric description I've ever heard, and I will use this with all slippery fabric that is annoying me. Chaos management is also a mood I relate to right now as I have a 6 week old, a slightly jealous princess-kitty, and a general chaos as a life state! You have definitely inspired me to look through my patterns and stash-bust some of my more intimidating fabric. The 'eating the elephant' thing springs to mind- one bite at a time is how to get there! Currently listening to Look to the Lady by Margery Allingham- a 1930's set mystery novel
One thing I do to help with cutting out pieces that are meant to be on the fold efficiently is get some butcher's paper and cut the *paper* on the fold instead of the fabric. Especially helpful when it's small pieces and you've got super limited fabric.
I like the color on you! I also like how the color reflects on Tinkerbells skirt. The fabric description sounds like lame' which is beautiful but a beast to work with.
I've just decided to stop myself from putting sleeves in a shirt I'm making because it's late (10:30pm) and I'm not 100% sure I have the concentration to do sleeves, sleeves are my nemesis... then I saw you video and that gave me the perfect reason to leave the sleeves til the morning :D
I learned a new technique for the sloopy doopy fabrics--cutting it inbetween paper. Leave a little room on the outside of your pattern, pin it carefully to the fabric, stick some scrap paper underneath, pin again and then cut on the line. It worked really, really well on silk organza, didn't take too much extra time. It's not supposed to damage your scissors, either. I'm super stressed about CoCo. I'm starting to debate whether I should go. Other people are depending on me for a room and I'm not in the best financial situation to lose my registration fees 😑 good for you for making the decision.
Oh my goodness, it's molten copper. When given the choice between puff and no puff...I always choose puff. *high five* It think the skirt(s)/bodice combo will be a wonderful hobbity outfit. The shiny blouse looks lovely and elegant on you. Glad your mockup did turn out to be wearable. I'm listening to Robin Hobb's Farseer Trilogy, rewatching Grimm, and reading Fall of the Argosi by Sebastien de Castell. I hope your trip is going well.
Nicole, I have found a way of doing zippers that for me make installing zippers easier. I sew the whole seam that the zipper goes in closed. I sew it at a regular stitch length until I get to the area where the zipper goes. I then change the stitch length to the longest length and sew the rest of the seam. From the inside of the garment I place the zipper on the seam startng at the bottom of the zipper at the point that the stitch length changes aligning the teeth of the zipper with the seam. I pin both sides of the zipper and work my way up the seam pinning both sides as I go until I reach the top of the zipper. I then flip the garment and sew from the right side. Lastly I open the seam underneath the zipper.
Forgive me Noelle. I had just watched Nicole Rudolph's hat video and had her name on my brain. You had mentioned in your video about never having done a side zipper. I have been sewing for 60 years and was just trying to be helpful.
I have a distinct weakness for shiny fabrics. I love them soooo much...so much pretty shininess! But yes, they are a pain. I've spent many, many hours trying to get hems to roll nicely...I made a skirt for my bf a while back that had me sewing 8 yards of rolled hem, and then going back and folding it up anyway because it was still shredding. I feel your pain on trying to get things to lay right and line up and all that. That fabric is gorgeous! Even with the slippy floopy annoyingness, I kinda want some...
Thank you for keeping me company through the UTTER TEDIUM of ironing 14 yards (in total) of freshly washed cotton fabrics....also, blouse is beautiful and now I wish I could be a shiny penny too, but without the....learning curve....(aka struggle)
Have you checked to see if England is going to let you into the Country? I say this as I heard a news report today that said England has told all airlines to stop selling tickets to England due to Covid high rates in the Country? I thought of all of you when I heard the report. I think it was on NPR radio. I really like the copper fabric. The color is very flattering on you. You don't 'need' the belt, but it does add style to it. I would wear it with the belt. It breaks up the straight lines of it nicely and does add a slimming effect. I think it will look great with brown cigarette pants. Very sophisticated 30s look. Congrats!
Love Noelle time! You smacked that fabric into shape. The tunic is so pretty on you; I love watching this wardrobe come together very exciting! xoxo's Sandie😊
Good call on not going to CC if you're not comfortable with it. Omicron is a PITA. I'm triple-vaxxed, rarely leave the house, wear a mask when I do, and I got hit with it. First for about 2 weeks, which then gave me infections in both ears (I'm very prone to them), then just as those were clearing up, I got hit with Covid AGAIN. Basically, I spent all of June and part of July sick. It SUCKS.
Oh noooo! I hope you are feeling better!! I’m for sure going to get another booster next month so I’m the most protected I can be when we go on that cruise!
Yes! I'm getting my booster as soon as I can -- September, I think? I just have a slight cough now, but thankfully I feel fine otherwise! I can't imagine how bad it would have been without being triple vaxxed.
Turned out great! The cowl neckline in the shiny penny fabric is perfect. Maybe you could wash the scrap that you used to practice hemming. Then you could see how it reacts. Some metallic fabrics get really don't like to be washed.
A great shape on you - well chosen! For the next one I would suggest the following: - cut the cowl piece double, with the fold line along the edge where you did the mini rolled hem. - sandwich the bottom front between the two layers of cowl instead of doing the lapped seam. You can turn the piece through one of the short shoulder bits. This should eliminate the worst areas to sew for a fabric of this ilk, and the cowl will fall a bit more solidly and never show the back of the fabric.
You are brave and patient to work with that fabric! The finished blouse looks terrific. You did a great job and I hope you enjoy wearing your Matinee Blouse.
So beautiful! Love the color. Maybe a cream colored skirt to go with it? I’ve always been scared of “floopy doopy” fabric. Maybe I’ll give it a go sometime soon. Love that you’re not afraid to share your frustrations and mishaps when trying something new. It helps the rest of us realize that no one is able to do something perfectly the first time-except for maybe Bernadette Banner…lol.
I love the pattern but would hate working with that fabric. Microtex needles are my go-to; they are extra sharp and would snag your fabric less. Starch doesn't have to be washed out. My grandmother taught me that if you leave your starched clothes on the line too long, it will take the starch out, and she starched everything. I spray starch my quilt fabrics when working with them. I would stay stitch my pieces and use stay tape, but that does have to be washed out. It is a game changer when putting in zippers. I love how the top looks on you, and I want to make it
That is a lovely color on you. I'm glad you gave yourself time to deal with it and took time off for your brain. Keeping your brain healthy is very important (also, good job on catching what could spiral into bad brain spaces before it did). This week has been....fun... On Monday, I ended up at the hospital with horrid abdominal pain and the 3 signs that go with it (n/v/d....I'm sure you can figure it out). Ended up being my gallbladder and they were going to just send me home to talk to my GI and I refused that because I was in insane amounts of pain (and I have chronic pain...says something about how much I hurt). So, Tuesday morning, I had my gallbladder taken out...lots of fun, that. But, before surgery, I mentioned that I wanted apple juice and after, I did have apple juice. I told the nurse that made me a happy camper, which is a rare thing in a PACU. Anyways, that's cut into my watching/reading time as I've been sleeping quite a bit as part of recovering. I did talk to a friend about working out a trade of me making her clothes and her helping me clean (for values of helping where I'm told 'go stand over there and be technical support'). My cat also likes her (he was rubbing up against her while she sat in the coolest spot in my apartment after taking the trash out). I also cat-sit for her when she and her spouse are out of town. Still haven't heard on the thing I need good thoughts for, so that's a bit anxiety provoking, but I was told anywhere between 2 and 9 weeks for that.
Ohhhh I hope you heal up quickly and easily! I have also had to have my gall bladder out rather abruptly, i I know exactly how that is! Sleep is good! And still sending good thoughts at you about the thing!!
@@Costuming_Drama Sadly, that thing came out as 'disagreed' so I have to start the whole process over again...and I'm very stressed about it. It took ~2 years to get to this point and I'm not sure how I'll manage another 2 years to do this again. ( I have pretty bad fibro....I'm sure you're smart enough to infer what I'm implying)
I like the colour. We have winter in RSA, we recently got Disney+ in our country. Just before winter school holidays... I have been catching up on Star Wars and Marvel series. Happy road tripping!
Please don't take this the wrong way, but this reminds me of very fancy boudoir wear. It was a very nice, liquid drape. Thank you for making this video! I'd been looking at this pattern and trying to imagine it on an actual person and it looks WAY better IRL than as a line drawing.
My husband I have continued to have Covid restrictions. Neither of us has actually gotten Covid, everyone else we know probably has had it though. I don't blame you to not going to Costume College this year. Slippery fabrics are a pain, the worst one I have worked with was chiffon and I made a really nice table scarf with it and had to hem it. That was not fun. I can't imagine making clothes out of it. Great job on your penny blouse. Looks perfect to wear on a ship.
Jealous of the Persuasion picnic. Persuasion is my 2nd favorite book of all time. (Neverwhere is the first.) Expecting my bonnet for the LA ECD picnic today and my new dance shoes tomorrow, so I'll be ready for my picnic ball as soon as a shorten the hem of my dress. Making my first shirtwaist in sewing class. Hoping to finish the mock up on Tuesday. Listening to Sense and Sensibility. To the end. Be full of care driving cross country.
The fabric is beautiful! I used to have a similar color shirt and I loved it. The pattern is really lovely, but I definitely understand the struggle of slippery fabrics. Mostly listening to music and looking for motivation to work on the blouse I cut out the other day.
I love your shiny penny 🤩 I don't have much experience with patterns, but when I made a dress with a Decades of Style pattern it also had me tackle the most complicated thing first. Take care and don't stress the small stuff 😜
You can't pay me enough to work with this kind of fabric--it would be a bad life decision for me. To be fair I also refuse to make garments. I really admire people that are skilled in the craft of anything that resembles "ballpark garment." I only quilt. I love my quilts. They keep me company. Bonus: super soft and fluffy. But dang another fantastically flattering silhouette. I love it.
Good on you for persevering with all kinds of horrors all at the same time! I'm watching Hustle and crocheting high vis beanie and scarf for my husband for when he's out on site for work in our cold winter. Always love your videos. Your 'thinking out loud' chat normalises so many of my own experiences, whether sewing or in life. Thank you.
Such a pretty shiny penny!! I kind of like that neckline, I've got a sleeveless shirt that does that and one of these days I'll figure out how they made it... Currently preparing to finally lube, thread and adjust my 1914 hand-crank sewing machine so I can start work on a half-corset sports bra thing that I've done like 4 mockups for and am finally happy with. Will do both sides out of linen, boned with giant zip-ties. I even changed the direction of one of the boning channels to keep the sideboob a bit more up front and centre! With the last mockup I discovered that the rolled hem of the IKEA cotton curtains I was using for the mockup make great temporary boning channels and I did each side a little differently, one side as close to the pattern as I could (after many adjustments for brick-shaped torso rather than hourglass torso) and the other side using seam allowances for the bones on the smaller pieces and came up with my own boning pattern based on which piece sat nicest on which side... Leaving next week to throw myself into a lake and stay there till I need to go back to work.
You will look great in your shiny penny outfit on the QM2! I’m excited to see your projects coming together. I have so many items to finish. I have not hemmed anything I’ve made so far and always just start something new. I have 2 friends who promised to come over to help me so I guess we’ll have a hem party. I’ve been thrifting for my other family members. We’re crazy to be bringing our kids along on this adventure. It was either we had to bring them or we couldn’t go. At least the Cunard kid club is up and running. But I’m going to make sure they’re well dressed when they’re around our group. I am taking some beginner Lindy Hop lessons. So hard but fun.
I love it. it's giving me medieval armor shape vibes... Also watching Virgin River - Reading book 3 of the ACOTAR series (A Court of Thornes and Roses) and listening to the Ice Planet Barbarian series!
Shiney! Love this colour. Currently procrastinating aka not puttining in the zipper in a brush roll inspired by your video. I added a zipper pouch at the the last minute , kinda regretting that decision but will love the out come. LOL
It looks lovely! I was in the doubting camp but I was wrong! We’re heading up north the end of the month. Looking forward to having all my kids together for a week of mostly hanging at the beach. My niece and her family have moved back to the area as well so lots of visiting!
Mannn, that looked like a fight all the way. Kudos for sticking with it without killing yourself with it. Mental health should never be sacrificed to a slippery fabric! I hope your cross country trek with Gigi is a fun adventure. Take care!
Ooo it looks really good! Also keeping my precautions regarding COVID. Most of my friends have caught it at this point (one of them twice) but hopefully I can hold out a bit longer. Congrats on taking a bit of a break from Instagram! It's tough but I hope you see results soon! I finally finished watching the first season of OFMD and I can't wait to hear when they'll be releasing the second one! I've gone back to rewatching Doctor Who for the 12th time though in my spare time. Would love to hear about any other shows you stumble across!
Great perseverance and you've ended up with a great 30s top! By the time you've finished the others you're going to be the Queen of floopy fabric, baby rolled hems and lapped seams! If you wanted to test how it washes you could do a swatch test - cut a square of fabric (I do 4x4" or 6x6") and sling it a lingerie bag with a load that you're hoping the finished garment will be washed with and see how the swatch comes out. Great for showing shrinkage, if it unravels like the blazes, are the spin creases set in stone, etc..... sometimes if the swatch test shows absolutely no change I don't both to prewash. I also attach the swatch with notes to the fabric so I know how it's coped with the wash for future projects. Nice thing about poly is it rarely shrinks but creasing can be a problem from my experience. Just wondering if those bishop sleeves are a tad too long in that really floopy fabric so you're losing the shape a bit? Looking forward to seeing the rest of the series.
Yes, I agree that the sleeves are a bit too long. I was wondering if I should shorten them next time by about an inch… maybe take 1/2 inch off of each section?
@@Costuming_Drama Yes, I would pin up a 1/2" tuck on one of the blouse sleeve joins on the one you've made which will take the 1" off and then see how it looks compared with the longer one. If you like it better then you could either leave your current blouse as it is and just change the pattern going forward or you could take up the current blouse as well - it's such soft fabric it may allow you to create a new seam without undoing the side sleeve seam? Or you could just release the couple of inches either side of the join and then redo it? On a fabric with more body the length may have been fine! I've just had to completely redo a sleeve cos I made it too long - I always have to lengthen by 1.5" so I do it as standard - however the Folkwear pattern I was using had sleeves that would have been long enough - if I'd bothered to check!!
Color and shape both very flattering--great choices! Also, it's kind of giving me jedi vibes. Like if you did it in a brown or a cream, 10/10 could see you rocking this around Coruscant...
The shiny penny fabric looks great on you. Thank you for showing the frustrations 🧡 and I’m glad the shirt turned out well for you. I’m not listening or watching anything exciting. Working on a quilt for me, and thinking of making one for a friend. I do need to get some Christmas pajama pants done (that should have been done last Christmas). I just had a staycation, and my family will be visiting me soon. Very COVID wary, so I don’t want to be in crowds etc
I feel your pain! Slippery poly fabrics suck. It is gorgeous but I don't envy you one bit. I agree that most of the mistakes weren't you or the pattern but the fabric being averse to sitting still for two seconds. It is stunning though. I had a cold sweat panic when you said cowl... it took me back to the Vogue dress with the cowl back 😬
I love the color and the slippy fabric. It does look very good on you. Good for you for sticking with it! It would look super cute with a swishy skirt. So I really hope this is not presumptuous of me, but I hope this might help. I was sewing a very thin fabric for a veil and my pins and needles kept snagging and it was a bit too fragile to put through my machine. My friend suggested silk needles and pins. I got silk pins and those are amazing and I found some incredible silk needles. They are my favorite and I use them all the time now. Maybe try Tulip silk needles on future slippery fabrics? Assuming you didn't already know about them. But I switched entirely.
@@Costuming_DramaAwesome, they are just the best. I use them for everything. I should have known you would know about them already. :D Thanks for the reply!!
It's worth repeating that your honesty and transparency is so helpful! I was snarling at my fabric so bad last night that I nearly scrapped the project (the same thread catching that you were experiencing!) and it's so nice to be reminded that I'm not the only one facing those problems and it doesn't make me a bad sewist. Your final garment turned out really lovely and seems to be screaming for an emerald skirt or trousers! I noticed that the waist seam seemed to hit a bit lower on you than the illustration. As someone who is very short waisted I'm always debating between moving the seam to my natural waist vs leaving it a bit lower to try to "balance" or counteract my actual proportions. What do you think?
I'm short waisted and if I leave things at the natural waist they tend to creep up to my waist. I then have a weird balloon shape above that. With a very large bust it is either just not a good look or depending on the neckline it could leave me exposed. It might balance but for me it ends up making me upset about the garment.
Your perseverance paid off because I think it turned out beautifully! The color and sheen are beautiful. It looks really good on you. I really like the puff sleeves too.
Another GREAT video!!! Loved the blouse so much. It could go into a few genres actually. I could see it in the 20's and also see it in a fantasy role-playing Elf look. So amazing!!! 👍🏽🖤🖤🖤😃
I love the look of the fabric (it is gorgeous), but my anxiety gives it major side eye lol. Almost finish cleaning up the first corset. I may get both done today!
I saw your video go up and I thought “where have I been that I haven’t seen a video from Noelle?” The shirt looks great, and particularly so since the fabric was so difficult. You asked about reading: “the betrayal of Anne Frank” which is particularly interesting in the afterward when they talk about fighting the rise of fascism. Also Neal Shusterman’s “Scythe” series (jury still out about how much I like it), and working my way through Becky Chambers books (for me they’re a great palate cleans from the world these days). Glad to see you again, see you soon!
Love the top in all its shiny penny glory! Thank you for sharing your shiny, slippery fabric adventures with us. I'm currently working on a dress made out of a squidgy gauzy cotton. It's taking me forever because I'm trying to take care with the finishing and the squidginess of the fabric. I WILL finish it though!
Ooow shiny! That fabric sounds like a bit of a nightmare, but the end result was so worth it. The cowl in particular looks wonderful. I can relate to the not feeling like sewing thing. Last fall I took almost 3 months off sewing because I just wasn't feeling it, and I always think if you're not into it you won't do a good job anyway so might as well give yourself the break.
I'm making a quilt while I figure out my next project. The quilt is difficult because it is elements I'm trying to cobble together. I love the fabric and I know it is really hard to sew. You did good.
Congrats on being a shiny penny--I think it looks awesome! I'm so behind on my sewing projects, because some of them scare me quite a lot. I need to follow your example and just do them!
Thank you for talking about Covid concerns. It seems like everyone I know is acting like it's not an issue anymore but it still is for my home. I feel less alone with it seeing you continue to be proactive
💖💖💖💖
My covid precautions haven’t changed since this all started. Still masked, still socially distanced ,still restricting time spent in shops/crowds etc. My health, my choice. Covid is seriously spiking here in England. Every time I speak to friends, they’ve either just had it or just got it…sooo. Thank you! And mostly me too about masks and being cautious. It’s like I’m either inside my house or VERY far afield, but still masked and careful.
I am the same. My sister is immune compromised and has so many allergies to regular drugs that the doctor wanted her to wait. Her heart stops with a lot of medications. So I mask and keep my distance. My next door neighbour just had covid and is recovering. It is not over by any means.

I have to agree with you. I have a bemberg rayon to make into slips for my 40s dresses. It’s just sitting on the shelf. Linen, cotton please and thank you but slippery flippery fabric is just intimidating.
I’m ready to go back to natural fibers, thanks!!
The funny thing is that my sister started sewing with these kinds of slippery stretchy fabrics and she finds cotton type really difficult to sew now because " they don't MOVE " according to her.
@@lenabreijer1311 😂😂 that's kind of hilarious
I just started sewing and had to baste a bias-edge before attaching it to an on-grain edge and... damn! it adds a surprising amount of stability.
That mockup fabric would look beautiful with a green or turquoise dress. First real comment with substance! 😁
Hahahahahha 🙌🏻
If it helps future Nicole: check out doing "full bicep adjustment" for arms patterns that are too small across the bicep but okay at the armscythe. A looooong time ago I made a coat that someone also made on reddit and they did this adjustment and its been *amazing* for me, as someone with larger arms.

Ooh,your grandmother. I love her.
Yes! It totally made sense and aunt jo liked pain 🤣.
@@Costuming_Drama Aunt Jo was not just a story. She was a saga! lol
The fact that you have never done a side zip before, even though you have done so many advanced projects, makes me feel so much better about my own sewing journey! I was getting discouraged because I usually have to learn some new skill for every sewing project, even though I have been sewing for years.
Oh man, I learn some new thing every single time and I’m on year… 38 of sewing! That’s actually part of the joy.
Oh wonderful! I hope it turns out exactly how you want it!
Ahahahahaha I love it! I’m glad someone else hears their grandmother haunting them.
Love the copper colour on you! Makes your eyes pop really beautifully. Silk is often easier to work with than poly so you might be through the worst of it!
God i hope so!! 🤣
That's a really good point! Coppery eye makeup on people with blue eyes looks AMAZING!
I'm about to start a silk charmeuse blouse, so I'll consider myself warned about the slippery fabrics!
Great job!
Thank you!!
Perseverence! Good for you for not throwing it in the bin! Your learning curve is steep with those kinds of fabric 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
I moved from Houston to DC and had my bestie ride shotgun. It is a beautiful trip. Have a safe one.
Thank you!
If it makes you feel any better I just spent three weeks making NINE different versions of the same Houppelande collar for one garment and just finally got it sewn on and correct TODAY…… 9 different collars. All hand sewn…… girl. It was Much. 🤦🏼♂️
I’m glad it’s done!!
And the copper top is beautiful
It looks beautiful. Slinky fabrics are a nightmare to work with, you’re doing great for the first time you’ve sewed with this type of fabric.
We also watched the 1987 Adventures in Babysitting with audio description which made a already incredibly fun movie more enjoyable
Since it’s out of budget my NYC trip got canceled and we likely won’t be going further than the stable I’ve been both a hand and lesson student at.
It will happen, and, as you say, progress toward that goal may not be linear either. 💖
OM Gosh! you look fabulous in you liquid copper fabric blouse. Thank you again for a wonderful video.
This video just made my wet grey Sunday morning so much brighter 🙂
Awww yay 💖💖💖
This came out super cute! Perfect vacation wear. The colour looks great on you, and so shiny! And erasing the Star Wars chemise off of my to-do list was also satisfying. Save that for another time.
Yeah, I’m kinda sad about it, but we can do it later! 💖
I really love the shiny penny fabric, and it looks great both in this pattern, and on you :)
"Squidgey-widgey, floopy-doopy" is probably the best fabric description I've ever heard, and I will use this with all slippery fabric that is annoying me.
Wow a 6 week old!! Congrats and pace yourself!! 🤣💖
One thing I do to help with cutting out pieces that are meant to be on the fold efficiently is get some butcher's paper and cut the *paper* on the fold instead of the fabric. Especially helpful when it's small pieces and you've got super limited fabric.
That’s a very good idea!
Hahahaha funnily enough, I leave sleeves until the morning in this video too!
Omg that copper fabric is gorgeous haven’t seen the finished item yet but just seeing it in a pool and I’m like one I want that colored fabric
I hope you have fun if you go and no regret if you don't!
Did you mean this for Nicole Rudolph?
Forgive me Noelle. I had just watched Nicole Rudolph's hat video and had her name on my brain. You had mentioned in your video about never having done a side zipper. I have been sewing for 60 years and was just trying to be helpful.
Beautiful! I agree with you about slippery fabric. That fabric is luscious!
Thank you! 😊
Ok so the shirt looks good, and kudos to you for sticking it out! it low-key looks like you're wearing like, medieval armour.
Hahahahah awesome
Thank you for keeping me company through the UTTER TEDIUM of ironing 14 yards (in total) of freshly washed cotton fabrics....also, blouse is beautiful and now I wish I could be a shiny penny too, but without the....learning curve....(aka struggle)
Hahahaha I wish that for you too!
BTW I did the mobius strip trick with my fabric when I washed it - absolute perfection!
Excellent
Have you checked to see if England is going to let you into the Country? I say this as I heard a news report today that said England has told all airlines to stop selling tickets to England due to Covid high rates in the Country? I thought of all of you when I heard the report. I think it was on NPR radio. I really like the copper fabric. The color is very flattering on you. You don't 'need' the belt, but it does add style to it. I would wear it with the belt. It breaks up the straight lines of it nicely and does add a slimming effect. I think it will look great with brown cigarette pants. Very sophisticated 30s look. Congrats!
That is for summer. Our trip is in October.and thank you!
Love Noelle time!
You smacked that fabric into shape. The tunic is so pretty on you; I love watching this wardrobe come together very exciting!
xoxo's Sandie😊
See thanks very much!
I can't imagine how bad it would have been without being triple vaxxed.
oh the sleeveless look was amazing
Yeah I liked that one too!
Turned out great! The cowl neckline in the shiny penny fabric is perfect. Maybe you could wash the scrap that you used to practice hemming. Then you could see how it reacts. Some metallic fabrics get really don't like to be washed.
Yeah! I’ll do that!
A great shape on you - well chosen!
For the next one I would suggest the following:
- cut the cowl piece double, with the fold line along the edge where you did the mini rolled hem.
Great video. Great channel. I wasn't interested in Historical Costuming until I bumped into this channel. Looks fun and insightfful
You are brave and patient to work with that fabric! The finished blouse looks terrific. You did a great job and I hope you enjoy wearing your Matinee Blouse.
Thanks!
The color looks good with your complexion. I hope you find that you like it.
I do!!
Trust me, her stuff isn’t perfect either and also not on the first go. Editing is an art form that she excels at! 😉
Loving the fabric for this blouse. Do think that style of sleeve would look wonderful with the puff in a contrasting color.
Yes! And the cowl maybe too
Love your copper top. It really pretty.
Really Shiny ✨ I kind of love it...
I LOVE THE COPPER WITH YOUR SKIN TONE!!!!!!❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Oh thank you!!
I love that you made your grandma’s ghost happy
I love the pattern but would hate working with that fabric. Microtex needles are my go-to; they are extra sharp and would snag your fabric less. Starch doesn't have to be washed out. My grandmother taught me that if you leave your starched clothes on the line too long, it will take the starch out, and she starched everything. I spray starch my quilt fabrics when working with them. I would stay stitch my pieces and use stay tape, but that does have to be washed out. It is a game changer when putting in zippers. I love how the top looks on you, and I want to make it
Ooo that’s good to know! Thanks!!
I love the color on you! I live in two states so I travel all the time. I had planned on going to the east coast this summer...not gonna happen. 🌈🌈🦋🦋
Please don't take this the wrong way, but this reminds me of very fancy boudoir wear. It was a very nice, liquid drape.
Thank you for making this video! I'd been looking at this pattern and trying to imagine it on an actual person and it looks WAY better IRL than as a line drawing.
I could see it done up in satin and for sure used as a robe!
Thanks!!
Once again you pulled it out! Very good object lesson to just keep on and finish. Thanks!
I failed to say that the garment is beautiful and looks gorgeous on you. Amazing. 👏
You stepped up your skills. Keep growing
Oh that sounds wonderful!! And thank you!
I love the copper fabric it’s gorgeous
The fabric is beautiful! I used to have a similar color shirt and I loved it. The pattern is really lovely, but I definitely understand the struggle of slippery fabrics. Mostly listening to music and looking for motivation to work on the blouse I cut out the other day.
I love your shiny penny 🤩
I don't have much experience with patterns, but when I made a dress with a Decades of Style pattern it also had me tackle the most complicated thing first.
Take care and don't stress the small stuff 😜
💖💖 thanks!
Looks nice. Good job. It fits you perfectly.
Amazing fabric and pattern!!!! A wonderful blouse on you, the colour is magic xxxxxxx
Thank you so much!
Thank you.
Awww great!!
I hope your lake throw is delightful!
Ah wonderful!! I … have so much to do left also 🤣 I hope it all gets done!!
I totally agree about the covid and events, it's really risky. Sounds like your plans are going to be much healthier.
I use tissue paper between the feed dogs and the fabric when I'm sewing slinky or delicate fabrics. :)
I love it. it's giving me medieval armor shape vibes... Also watching Virgin River - Reading book 3 of the ACOTAR series (A Court of Thornes and Roses) and listening to the Ice Planet Barbarian series!
Love the color, shiny penny aside. Dress pants or a skirt, fancy shoes and you are stylin’
Shiney! Love this colour. Currently procrastinating aka not puttining in the zipper in a brush roll inspired by your video. I added a zipper pouch at the the last minute , kinda regretting that decision but will love the out come. LOL
So cute! I love it!
i would NEVER wish any trouble on Anyone:; but i really appreciate you sharing all yours. it helps me feel less alone. great video!
💖💖
It looks lovely! I was in the doubting camp but I was wrong!
We’re heading up north the end of the month. Looking forward to having all my kids together for a week of mostly hanging at the beach. My niece and her family have moved back to the area as well so lots of visiting!
Oh I hope you have such a lovely time!
Mannn, that looked like a fight all the way. Kudos for sticking with it without killing yourself with it. Mental health should never be sacrificed to a slippery fabric! I hope your cross country trek with Gigi is a fun adventure. Take care!
Thank you!!
You make a beautiful penny!
i love your floopy penny fabric. it's very nice and looks great on you!
Thanks!!
I’ll try it!
Color and shape both very flattering--great choices! Also, it's kind of giving me jedi vibes. Like if you did it in a brown or a cream, 10/10 could see you rocking this around Coruscant...
Oh yeah! Totally!
I had a cold sweat panic when you said cowl... it took me back to the Vogue dress with the cowl back 😬
Thanks for another fun video. I too have a love hate relationship with floopy doopy fabric. Love the shine hate the fuss it takes to sew it.
Oh i only use silk pins and silk needles already... but thanks for the suggestions!
Hmmm I’m actually not short waisted so I kind of wonder if the belt should be holding that up more? I will ponder this.
Thank you!!
Another GREAT video!!! Loved the blouse so much. It could go into a few genres actually. I could see it in the 20's and also see it in a fantasy role-playing Elf look. So amazing!!! 👍🏽🖤🖤🖤😃
Thank you!! 💖💖
It's a gorgeous fabric really!
Thanks!
You will! I have faith!!
Agreed! It’s one of the things that stinks about making UA-cam your job! 😂 I will probably be changing that at some point soon!
I'm making a quilt while I figure out my next project. The quilt is difficult because it is elements I'm trying to cobble together. I love the fabric and I know it is really hard to sew. You did good.
💖
Congrats on being a shiny penny--I think it looks awesome! I'm so behind on my sewing projects, because some of them scare me quite a lot. I need to follow your example and just do them!
I bet if you just take it one step at a time, it will go swimmingly
I understand and support your decision about CoCo. I'm crossing my fingers that your most excellent coverage will be able to return in '23.
Thanks! Me too!
I wondered if you’d seen that B&T video, pretty cool.
