@@excelisfun Hi Mike Sir.. Please make working on macros as well the part of this playlist..thanks for efforts. I also want to understand how we can reduce the size of heavy excel file (other than saving it in binary format).
This was awesome! Very well-taught, engaging, and fun. Learned tons so far!
Glad it helps and is fun!!!!
Excellent as ever. I'm an occasional instructor learning from a master.
For Merge and Centre I find a much better method is
ctrl-1 (Format Cells) -> Alignment tab -> Horizontal drop down box -> Center Across Selection>
That will look the same as Merge and centre but the data will still be in the left hand cell and all the others are empty.
Columns can be selected and all the other problems of merge and center disappear.
So you get the finish of a final report and the usability you need.
I really enjoyed watching this video, really good stuff that never gets obsolete! Thanks a lot! :)

General alignment can be restored via the "Alignment" tab in Format Cells (CTRL+1) as an option in the dropdown menu of the dialogue box for horizontal alignment.
Once the ALIGNMENT tab is in view in FORMAT CELLS:
Text alignment section (upper left of box) > Horizontal > drop down menu > General.
You can also tab to the "Horizontal" box (it will be highlighted, mine it becomes white text on a blue background) and type letter "G". There is only one option that starts with "G", so General will be selected, athough this latter keyboard shortcut may not work if the selection has a mix of horizontal options.
Ways to access Alignment tab:
1. Access by menu (ALT+H > FA). For me the mnemonic "Home > Format Alignment" helps me remember it.
2. CTRL+1 (quickest if the last thing you interacted with was alignment, otherwise you may have to select the Alignment tab if you used another property like Number, Font, Border, Fill, or Protection)
3. Quick Access toolbar (if you want to commit the limited real estate) can add a button "Alignment settings" which is angle "ab" above two blue arrows (one horizontal, the other angled up and to the right.)
4. There is a tab on the native "Alignment" section of Ribbon (Home Menu) just to the right of buttons for vertical alignment. Click and then selection the last item in the dropdown choices, "Format cell alignment".
I think I'm a fairly advanced user, but I still pick up stuff watching your videos. I'd rank your point about alignment as especially important.
Thanks for those very hot and useful tips, Gregory!!!
Good stuff Gregory. As for your point 2, above, I'm sure you know, but It's a good reminder that Ctrl-PgUp and Ctrl-PgDown will change panels, just like navigating worksheets in a workbook.
Great job! Thank you very much!
You are welcome!!!
I will most certainly be doing this course. You are a wonderful teacher
Thanks for the kind words, Patrick!!! It should be fun : )
I used to center align everything. Now I only do table headers and titles. The auto-alignment for different data types is fantastic

Hi Mike, looking forward to new series of M 365 videos! Thanks to your videos my boss is calling me "Data guru"!😁
I have one question, while we are on the subject of calling things properly - is there a difference between a worksheet and a spreadsheet?
Dear Data Guru,
Spreadsheet is a general term that represents an two-way grid of cells regardless of which program it is: Excel, Lotus, VisiCalc, Google Sheets, and other programs. I sometimes call the worksheet a spreadsheet... -- excelisfun
It already begins :-)
Finally, right ; )
Hi Great video, So Im working on a sheet that already centered numbers. So do I just go to each column and row and realign them to the right to get the formatting correct?
Thanks!

In the section on default alignments, it occurred to me that I didn't know the keyboard shortcut for reverting a selection to default alignments. I discovered that the clear formatting (Home | Editing | Clear | Clear Formats) will clear the formats in a selection, but it isn't clear if there is a keyboard shortcut for this. Any comments?
I notice that the F is underlined in Clear Formats. Does this mean something?
It is good to start from the beginning. Is there a way to revert back to default alignment?
I usually clear All Format (Alt, E, A, F) and start over. You can also apply "Normal" style, which has the defaults.
hi Mike 13:28 I dont agree 95% of laptops when you press FN+ESC turns off / on the FN key, meaning that F12 on a laptop can still be classic keybord F12 and not FN + F12
Wow!!!!!!! I did not know that... That is a life changer. I will have to show that in this class in an upcoming video : ) Thanks my rad friend : ) : )
@@excelisfun yeah :) its a great thing.
@@ExcelInstructor : ) : ) : ) : )
I don't know the percentages by all brands, but my Lenovo allows default key to be set to F-keys with FN+ESC.
In that configuration the hotkeys (volume, silence, brightness, etc) are accessed by Fn+
While it's a personal preferenec (and contentious for some) Lenovos also have a trackpoint (red eraser point below G and H keys) that also a huge timesaver for me, since it allows me to keep my fingers on the home row and access mouse functionality rapidly
@@gregorymiller6026 Thank you for that helpful info., Gregory!!!
I have a problem with section 18. Firstly, regardless of I write 43..69 or 43.69 Excel sees it as text and it is aligned to the left. If I try 43,69 it converts that number into 10.02.1900. Yes. A date. And that auto converted date is aligned to right but when I type whether it's a valid date or not it does not take it as date. Only the clock alignment works.
hey mike i have a question. i just finished the excel basics learning playlist. what should i watch next to in order to become really proficient in excel- the advanced playlist or the mecs 365 playlist? im an aspiring data analyst.
Advanced next. Unless you have M 365 Excel, then MECS. But MECS is not a complete class yet, the Advanced one is complete.
👍
Sir .. all steps are done ...i'm locked and loaded and waiting for new the instructions.👮♂️
Yes!!!!! More to come, Hussein!!!!
when will get the 2nd class ❤️. excel is fun❤️
In a day or two : )
Hi Mike! I want to make use of these excel videos but where do i begin from, there are so many videos so much content, pls advise.
Here is my intro video that introduces my channel and classes: ua-cam.com/video/GNhN1Zw8oM0/v-deo.html
If you have M 365, then the MECS class is the best. It is explained in intro video.
Let me know if you have other questions.
Will this course cover dashboards and VBA?
Dashboards, but no VBA. Sorry about that : (
@@excelisfun No problem. Please do make full course on VBA(if possible)as I do not see this in your playlists, thanks again.
I have the MS Office 2021 installed on my laptop, will this playlist work for me? Or should I watch the Excel Basics Free Course?
Excel 2021 does not have everything that Microsoft 365 has - mostly missing some dynamic array functions. But this play list would be much better than the 2016 playlist.
P.S. I know many jobs (mine included) don't use M 365, but M 365 is the only version that has everything.
@@excelisfun thanks for the reply and of course thank you for all the free educational content, I’ll be starting right away!
@@iLiasStaV97 You are welcome!!! It is not free, though... I charge a thumbs up and a comment when so inspired lol
@@excelisfun consider it done!
Oops, I have commuted the cardinal sin of over riding the default alignment. How do I revert or restore the excel default alignment?
I usually clear All Format (Alt, E, A, F) and start over. You can also apply "Normal" style, which has the defaults.
Cross posted from reply to @Sudarshan Dagar
It took me a while to figure out how to RESTORE GENERAL ALIGNMENT.
After some searching within Excel itself, it's right there as an option (General) in the dropdown menu for horizontal alignment dialogue box, the top left area of the "Alignment" tab for Format Cells.
Ways to access:
Access by menu (ALT+H > FA). For me the mnemonic "Home > Format Alignment" helps me remember it.
CTRL+1 (quickest if the last thing you interacted with was alignment, otherwise you may have to select the Alignment tab if you used another property like Number, Font, Border, Fill, or Protection)
Quick Access toolbar (if you want to commit the limited real estate) can add a button "Alignment settings" which is angle "ab" above two blue arrows (one horizontal, the other angled up and to the right.)
There is a tab on the native "Alignment" section of Ribbon (Home Menu) just to the right of buttons for vertical alignment. Click and then selection the last item in the dropdown choices, "Format cell alignment".
Unfortunately, the Excel file throws an exception error when attempting to open. Anyone else have that problem? Was hoping to relearn how to use excel properly.
I am not sure what is going on. Do you have Microsoft 365 Excel installed on your computer?
Sir in my laptop I'm not getting worksheet tabs 😔

Hi, is there any command to switch to default alignment
I do not know of one.

I didn't find much that was useful with browser searches. I finally found after my cat walked across the keyboard. (Just kidding, I don't own I can, I just poked around Excel trying to find a solution.)
Is there any certificate of completion?
No, there is not.
Hello Mr. Mike. How can I get Microsoft 365 Excel?
You buy it.
Sir im your new subscriber. Can you please tell me how many DEFAULT worksheets are present in ms excel 365 . Ive watched this entire video but could not find the answer . Please sir if you are reading this. As im preparing for the exams so i need this information. Some says 3 some says 1.
I do not know the answer because Microsoft help says three, but all my workbooks are one. Plus, the default is easy to change on so many computers it can be almost any number. I would call bullshit on this question. In addition, I don't teach to these exams because they test useless features and have bullshit questions that you never use in the working world, so I am the wrong person to ask. Best advice for these silly tests is to get the book that prepares you for the given exam.
