@@originaltrilogy1 That won't work - even if you get the positional tracking to work, the headset still needs to see the IR lights from the controllers - if the ambient light is too bright and in the wrong spectrum (i.e. sunlight), your controllers woll jump around a lot or not be spotted at all.
Awesome video mate! Hopefully this is just the beginning of more free-roam VR action for consumers. Imagine doing this in the world of Bioshock, Resident Evil or Little Nightmares with a story attached to it that would be so cool. Time will tell! We can only salute i-illusions for being the real heroes here.

Some people don't have a 10m by 10m play space... Some people don't have a VR headset... No developer wants to water down their game to accommodate for what the end-user lacks. They expect you to either find some solution, like going to a park, gym, or tennis court, or if you can't even do that, then this experience isn't for you. Move on and play something else. Lots and lots and lots of people do not live in 200sqft condos in downtown vancouver. Lots of people have the means and resources to find a flat 10m by 10m play area.

Just play a home defense game with a buddy where the oculus recognizes your furniture, windows and doors and has zombies or aliens crawl in from under the bed or in a window for you to shoot.

Like, they might develop a game on super computers but they gotta tone down and optimize the graphics to fit cross-platform. Anyway, soon the oculus should be seeing some AR games using passthrough and no guardian at all. So imagine turining your whole house into an arena and all the furniture, windows and doors automatically get used in the game to have zombies bust or crawl through. Stuff like that should happen with the new passthrough AR API facebook released.
any zombie or wave style shooter with progressing levels using portal/tea for god type doors to move between environments would be an unreal experience
Kind of smart for space usage as well. The level design could incorporate the portal orientation to manipulate the player into facing a desired direction at the start of each stage, giving the feel of an endless environment.

To everyone asking- no it doesn't need to be indoors. You can play on any large flat space if it is either very overcast, or at night with artificial lighting. Parking lots, lawns, fields etc. work very well. Just be safe. If the area has the potential for dynamic obstructions make sure you have someone without a headset on to keep an eye out.
@@Cheesepuff8 It is not recommended to play outside because it can be too bright for the tracking. And I imagine that your character cant move through walls so if you continue to walk towards the wall you will just push it with you?

Great video Mike! This is the best breakdown of SPT DX out there! I sent this to my neighbours who are contemplating getting a Quest and it got them well stoked!! Update. So we played it. Against bots. It rocks! We took some some beers with us and took turns. It doesn't take much imagination to figure this out. I can't believe all the negative comments regarding the 10 x 10 m play space. There is a green area just a few hundred meters from where we live. Fortunately it is shaded by trees on the westerly side so we could play before the sun went down. There are street lamps that enabled play for a bit longer before it got too dark. We got two decent hours in and it got us planning the next session and my friends planning their own Quest purchase! If you can't find somewhere to play this, don't buy it. There are loads more great games you can try. All the best, Rich in Sweden!

I saw in another video that the game blacks out when you walk through a wall, and you see some arrows pointing toward the direction you should walk to come back. During that time, your opponents can still shoot you (they can see you, but you can't), so it's quite dissuasive! :)
This is so sick!!! I was starting to get a little bored with the standard SPT; it's an awesome fun game but kind of monotonous after a while. This update is literally a complete game changer! And with a level editor??? Man I can't wait to find a space to try this!!

Wow, I had no idea this kinda thing was possible! Now THIS is truly something that can only be done with a standalone headset, a bit more exciting then just "Well, it's like tethered VR, but there's no cable".
A lot of elementary schools have large covered areas you can play at on the weekends when school is out. At least where I live. Just a tip for those that don't have a gym membership.
I understood the part where you talked about syncing up your position in game with your friend but I assume for that to even work in the first place you need to make sure that you and your friend have set up the exact same guardian space independently on each headset? Any tips for how to do that as smoothly as possible?
I was surprised this had to be setup manually. Maybe two people using the same physical (arena) space isn’t technically supported? Without forcing people to sync you risk real world collisions.
@@cherryfruit5492 but if your guardian zones are not lined up then surely you’d be at risk for one of the players to run out of guardian space after syncing up the position in game? I don’t think the quest itself will let you play the game outside the zone
From their older FAQ A completely empty 10m x 10m (33ft x 33ft) play area, preferably with some extra space on the sides (12m x 12m or 40 x 40ft is ideal). To be compliant with Oculus recommendations, two completely empty 10 x 10m play areas are required. We recommend playing on each half of a tennis court.

But maybe for legal reasons they have to recommend that on paper. But if you look at This video or any other video on this game they are synced in the same space

Great video on space-time trainer arena mode I have 3 questions about this mode the first is can you reverse the controls in the settings the second can physically slide and shoot your gun and using shield up by her face and the quest will pick it up and finally can create a map that's bigger than the 1010 m boundary? @@jasonsteele2028 The genuine fun in this is moving 1:1 in the actual space. Without that, it's like any other FPS game. The joy is in actually being able to move in that space in a way that feels completely real.

Just tried this on the quest3 in a nearby gym and gotta say: I'm impressed .. the graphics are actually pretty good and even just with bots it is quite funny. It is really sad, that there seems to be no Developtment since 2021 and is completely unknown by most people. As there seems to be no matchmaking, it quickly dies out.
OK, someone needs to try this outside after dark in a well lit parking lot or our outdoor tennis/basketball court. Imagine a multilevel parking garage event.
If me and a friend both have a headset do we both need to purchase the game separately to play together? Also if we both have a headset and play in the same area do we need wifi still?
This may seem like a silly question but how do you do solo mode? I went in my backyard setup a play area but it kept waiting for online players. Do I need to turn off WiFi?

the parking garage idea is a great one - widely available and I reckon the painted lines on the floor might help with tracking
