Thanks for sharing. I look forward to hearing the results of your overhaul. With the nut replacement are you keeping the traditional string pairing or switching to Rickenbacker pairing with the octave strings positioned under the main strings?
Hi. I know this is 3 years too late but still thought I would ask. I love the sound of flatwounds and have them installed on a Casino, an Ibanez George Benson and my much loved Hofner bass , but for jangle on a 12 string I would think this wold be counter-productive. I'm curious about what tonal qualities you are looking for from this guitar. Did you achieve that goal? I did watch the follow-up as well. Nice guitar and nice playing by the way. It reminded me of some Fairport Convention records I liked back in the day with that wonderful drone under a shifting melody.
I agree it seems counter-productive, but all those classic 1960s recordings with 12-string electrics (Beatles, Byrds) would have been recorded with guitars strung with flatwounds.
Is the neck massive to take the extra tension? Never seen one in the flesh so its a nice piece of fender history. These videos informative. Can we see the guitar being fret dressed?? Cheers mate
I am 12 string freak ( I have 5 currently) . I had the 12 strat it wasnt bad but wasnt one of my favorites--nut seemed cramped and pickups werent very chimey-and I didnt keep it long Tune it down to D standard and capo at 2nd fret-- that helps
miamistomp funny I think the nut on the Strat is wider than my 370 McGuinn Rickenbacker. With a low action I think it’ll be fine. The Texas Specials are pretty ordinary pickups so hopefully the new ones will find that elusive chime:) Matt
I am not A Rick guy but I know the Tom Petty has a nice 1 3/4 width. The Rm felt narrower to me If I had kept the 12 Strat I would have put a Danelectro tube in the middle My most played 12 guitar is a 1965 Epiphone Serenader with a 2 inch neck width
She's lovely, Matt. Switching out the Texas Specials for a lower output set is a great idea. Don't know if you own one but I've found the little Snark clip on tuner to be a great help with 12 strings. A friend bought me one and I've used it exclusively since. They're remarkably accurate in my opinion. Stewart MacDonald neck shims might help with the high action if saddle adjustment isn't enough. Good luck.

Great informative video. I just bought one of these, and I’m looking for a appropriate set of noiseless pickups. Any suggestions?

Darren C just purchased one, it feels like a normal strat neck :)
