my dogs name is roxie, and when she was 5 or 6 she was hit by a car. instead of her having a broken leg or something, that accident led to her becoming blind. they never removed her eyes because they didn’t cause her pain in any way. but she’s my little girl and i love her so much. she runs into things a lot and yes it was sad in the beginning, but now it’s become a regular thing that i just laugh out of fondness. my dad(im 16) sometimes when he comes home from work he’ll walk around the living room avoiding roxie because she’s just wagging her tail and is excited that daddy is home that she tries to find him. and it’s so cute because she just doesn’t give up haha. her eyes look like they have moons in them. they are just her regular black eyes but in the middle is like milky dark blue, and i honestly find them beautiful and they suit her. she’s 11 now and she’s just living life being herself. and i love her with all my heart
This story proves special needs animals are not to be thrown away or given up on. Lucky and cute furbabies have a special mom who gave them a 2nd chance at life ☺💜

But, special needs dogs are often not adopted -- if that's what you mean to say -- and people who are able to care for them should consider adopting them. Not only dogs, but special needs cats, too, as well as other animals who need some extra help.

I have a 21 year old blind poodle I took in after her mom passed 8 years ago. She can do anything my sighted dogs can do, just slower and with more circles.
She had a degenerative eye disease that basically came down to her body absorbing her eye balls. But she knows where her food bowl is compared to my other 2 dogs and she knows where all the water bowls are throughout the house. She's amazing. She loves going outside and I feed a colony of semi-feral cats and they'll rub up against her like a long lost sister. My inside cats snuggle her when she's chilly. She is precious and still sassy. 💖
I have a blind dog as well. She lived 9 years with sight, and has been blind for 2 now. I'm amazed every day at her remarkable ability to get around and have nothing stop her! It's a beautiful thing to witness and a great lesson for me!

It is miracle, but dogs already struggle with vision and rely on their noses.
They say that when you go blind, your other senses seem to increase to make up for it, and dogs have exceptional smell and hearing to begin with.
