I honestly think Twilight's return is good because of two things. One, Sunny needs a mentor, I originally thought that Opaline was Flurry Heart, and I still think this is a possibility. Or two, the Mane 5 represent the elements of Harmony. They will go through some kind of trial similar to Twilight in Season 1, which will cause Twilight to appear, like the lore of the Elements of Harmony, when the 5 elements are present, the sixth element is revealed, aka, the element of Magic herself.
In my opinion I don’t think that bringing Twilight back was a good idea because just creates a lot of confusing plot holes in G5. We don’t know if there gonna explain a lot of the plot holes that they created during G5. I will admit bringing back old characters can be great idea if the writing has context and a good execution when it comes to the plot but honestly so far they haven’t done a good job with that because of bringing back old characters was just for fan service. G5 didn’t feel like a reboot but a continuation of G4 and only relying on that to make money.

There was a lot of unanswered questions in G4 but the way they did it wasn’t like in G5 that’s what made G4 was so good when it came to the writing. G4 taught kids good lessons and had interesting storylines. I’m just saying that G5 was relying on G4 instead of being something different and original which is what I preferred but again this is just my opinion.

Hey wait, what if that's not Twilight, but the Tree of Harmony?! Remember how it took the form of an etherial Twilight Sparkle in late G4? What if it's now reemerging through the crystals and can talk to the Mane Five like it used to talk to the Young Six so long ago? That'd be awesome in its own way and almost make up for the fact it's not Twilight.
I would actually prefer it be the tree. That is actually a character I think would work in G5, plus it makes Hasbro happy because they have "Princess Twilight" in G5.

I think there's a lot of theories of the whole Twilight thing. I highly doubt their gonna bring back the actual Twilight. My only theories are: 1. This is a recording, and the reason she's not in her "Celestia" form is due to her magic being weakened and having her smaller form. (I'm assuming that's how alicorn growth could work?) 2. It's the tree of Harmony. Twilight using the last of her magic and to protect the tree, put the last of its magic in there. I mean the tree is the source of magic, so would make sense. And the tree did use Twilight to project itself before and most likely never updated to her taller self. This also explain why magic is more projecting in G5 and the earth ponies are gaining new ways to showcase their magic. The tree could do that.
personally, i'd love the idea that twilights soul is trapped in the crystals somehow, and the cast is left oblivious to this for some time- maybe when they find out they try to free her? considering she would be dead in said situation, she would be in the background, say a few lines or do stuff off cam to catch their attention- because. ya'know.. being trapped with no way out or not having any direct form of communication can't be fun. And when they set her free she wouldn't re-appear after. I think it'd be a good route for them to take if they want to improve marketability by bringing twilight into the mix for a short while as well as keep the attention *mostly* focused on the mane 5. butttt as cool as that would be... it's probably the tree of harmony 2.0. We don't know for sure that Twilight made the crystals after the events of the last problem. There's a lot we don't know about what happened in between her coronation and sending luster dawn to Ponyville!
I'm somewhat used to twilight being in 3d since there are sfm models of the characters. I can only hope things turn around for the better with this show.

This trailer really made me more excited for the show. I like that The animation has improved from the special from lighting, expressions and such. And I like some of the returning characters, but one made me not know how to feel, you know who I mean

Ok I got into MLP because of G5 and don't worry I did do my research for G4, but I am getting very annoyed that they are trying to make this too much like G4 the fact they call them the mane 5 and then having a dragon side kick like they can try something new instead of making it so similar
theyve had a mane group of ponies since g1, and also had a dragon sidekick since g1.... this isnt anything new, g5 is just following mlp's tradition like every other generation has done

Calling it now, they're going to pull a Lion Guard with Twilight and Sunny. To explain, in Disney's Lion Guard, the main character Kion, would seek out Mufasa's spirit for guidance time to time. In truth it really isn't the first series to use this concept as the old Australian Cartoon "The Silver Brumby" also used this concept of seeking advice from the dead, mainly brought up Lion Guard as it's more well known and a lot more people have heard of it than "The Silver Brumby" series. However, it could lead to many possibilities, one being that she can create a better link to what is still cannon, taking her time to give advise by visiting the past events in G4. I know there are comics, but not everyone has access to the full copy or are comfy about pirating said comics so it'd be a great help for that and better detailing what exactly happened as Discord is known to be quite dramatic or leaves out certain details either intentionally or favors certain facts/opinions over the full story. Considering they are literally winging the series with no plan what so ever, it's both as possible for them to pull a Lion Guard as it isn't possible for them to use that concept correctly or take advantage of it to get a good story base going. As for her not being a "Giant Alicorn" I think it's all coming down to flatly Budget reasons restricting them from being able to make that kind of model and animation for her, seeing how low it already is I wouldn't put it past them either to reuse models, story reasoning being that Twilight looks like that simply because Sunny only knows her in that form, there isn't any evidence showing Twilight's fully alicorn form in their home. Though why that would be the reason I'm not sure of in the slightest, but it's the best I got-

It's confirmed in the comics for g5 twilight did make the crystals, even tho I don't think the comics should be canon to the show/movie

Ok I got into MLP because of G5 and don't worry I did do my research for G4, but I am getting very annoyed that they are trying to make this too much like G4 the fact they call them the mane 5 and then having a dragon side kick like they can try something new instead of making it so similar
theyve had a mane group of ponies since g1, and also had a dragon sidekick since g1.... this isnt anything new, g5 is just following mlp's tradition like every other generation has done

Calling it now, they're going to pull a Lion Guard with Twilight and Sunny.
To explain, in Disney's Lion Guard, the main character Kion, would seek out Mufasa's spirit for guidance time to time. In truth it really isn't the first series to use this concept as the old Australian Cartoon "The Silver Brumby" also used this concept of seeking advice from the dead, mainly brought up Lion Guard as it's more well known and a lot more people have heard of it than "The Silver Brumby" series.
However, it could lead to many possibilities, one being that she can create a better link to what is still cannon, taking her time to give advise by visiting the past events in G4. I know there are comics, but not everyone has access to the full copy or are comfy about pirating said comics so it'd be a great help for that and better detailing what exactly happened as Discord is known to be quite dramatic or leaves out certain details either intentionally or favors certain facts/opinions over the full story.
Considering they are literally winging the series with no plan what so ever, it's both as possible for them to pull a Lion Guard as it isn't possible for them to use that concept correctly or take advantage of it to get a good story base going. As for her not being a "Giant Alicorn" I think it's all coming down to flatly Budget reasons restricting them from being able to make that kind of model and animation for her, seeing how low it already is I wouldn't put it past them either to reuse models, story reasoning being that Twilight looks like that simply because Sunny only knows her in that form, there isn't any evidence showing Twilight's fully alicorn form in their home. Though why that would be the reason I'm not sure of in the slightest, but it's the best I got-

Maybe is not Twilgiht... What if the hologram is Harmony, in the last seasons of G4 the Tree of Harmony came to imitate the appearance of Twilight and came to manifest with the Young Six, perhaps Harmony still exists inside the crystals since all the magic of Equestria is concentrated there.

I think it might be the harmony. because if this was recorded, twilight would be her older self in the last problem, and since she sends her pupil out like celestia did her, it wouldn't make sense for this to be before that. and I do have evidence that prove that this is harmony. lets 1st address what happened to harmony. we can assume that it probably perished, as magic was disappearing. so what i think is what remained turned into the tree we see in the pick below. so what would it do if it was on its last breath? it would make the crystals to save it. why would i think harmony made these crystals? well looking at the light emitting from it while active. it is of course a rainbow. and what else makes a rainbow that was made from harmony? you guess it, the elements of harmony. also, you ever wonder if the crystals have a mind of their own? kind of like how twilight described the tree of harmony? and not to mention growing a castle, rebuilding itself as the treehouse the young six made out of the broken parts, and let be honest, where did sunny and the other mane 4 get that house from!? not only that but being able to grant sunny the ability to turn into an alicorn! lets also say that if this was actually her in a recording, why would she be her younger self?
