I like to think that in the original, He heard what Sylve said and for a moment thought about possibly sparing her, However Simon not showing ANY regret for what he and the other Swans did/said and even defended their actions made him snap out of it and agree with what Simon said, Sylve only felt bad about it now, It doesn't change the fact she willingly joined in on making fun of the ugly duckling, "What good does caring do now?"

Good ending: the duckling let Sylvie live because she felt bad for him and wanted to see how it ended up and a few years later, Sylvie also Jas kids and an ugly duckling but she treated it with respect and the OG ducking let her live

Still she would have been spare I was bullied and hurt and been up in high school. And when I met one of my bullies years later they told me sorry for all the hurtful stuff they did to me. I forgave them because there is no point in holding a gruge. Kids will be kids. It took me time to realize that. Me and my one enemy have become good friends so yea he should have not killed her.
