Bootsy Collins is a rock and roll hall of fame bass player. Best known for his work with James Brown and Parliament Funk. Maceo Parker on saxophone is also legendary, and having also played with James Brown and Parliament Funk.
Ok, I'm made a lot of official reaction requests today, so I'll end with this. This is the movie trailer for "Get On Up" - the story about James Brown. Bootsy is represented in the movie, but I don't see him in the trailer. Anyway, Chadwick Boseman is terrific in it! I'll post the link in my next reply.
I know you have a bunch of requests at the moment. Please react to this when you're able to get around to it. I think you will like it. Get On Up - movie trailer ua-cam.com/video/0F_pxMmOG4I/v-deo.html
James Brown was a huge inspiration for everyone, including Michael Jackson, Prince, and has been sampled probably more than any other musical artist in history.
Most people dont realize how absolutely astounding it was that these artists from different music genres and with totally different personal music styles came together to make this song. It is so common today but it was completely novel then. People's jaws dropped when they heard this song and watched this video. Rap in a dance song? OMG! It was so different. It dropped in NYC in 1990 which was a time that NYC was pivoting into a fresh downtown scene. Things were feeling a little safer in the LES, Bowery, and Soho and this is where most of the venues were. It was getting kind of hip down there but still had a definite edge given that lots of buildings were empty. These musicians were all high profile in their respective NYC scenes and I remember seeing each of them have shows on the calendar regularly in the Village Voice. I can definitely see how these cameos collaborations might have come together organically. I'm so hyped that you featured it. Okay finished reminiscing but it's definitely back into my playlist.
I screamed out loud when he said Q-tip's part was just ok! This is one of his most iconic features and it makes me so happy ever time I hear it! Oh well.
@@sallyh5413 Agreed. Not only did Q-Tip feel this song, he incorporated a specific delivery to match the song, even with it being a departure from how he usually comes across. This part of the song was the bridge of the song. In many respects, this was essentially a musical breakdown, with vocals added to it by a legend. It wasn't supposed to be a star-shining moment. Q-Tip knew to blend into the breakdown and provide a smooth delivery for a great dance song.
@@PixelPro-4000 exactly, and it wasn't even that much of a departure to his usual style, he always has been super creative and also comes with that mellow flow.
When he said "Q-tip's part could of been a lot harder" I rolled my eyes lol. This song wasn't about being "hard", it's a fun dancing groovy beat. Back in the 90's lots of rap sounded like this.

I was a scratch-mix DJ, and this jam even got generations of white people at the time dancing. Remember Hip-Hop was not as aggressive, misogynistic and synthetic as it is now and, it was still about the DJ thrifting beats. Most modern rap/dance (fake Hip Hop) has lost it staying power, quickly becoming outdated and extremally niche. Critics should understand this organic universal 35-year-old vibe will outlast most modern pseudo-Hip-Hop/dance tracks. Think about universal music from the past 10 year that is overly processed, lacking real instruments, autotuned to death and overly compressed [almost soulless], they just don’t have the same long-term replay as pre-2000’s music. This song came out of the transitioning of Hip-hop music into dance. Hip-hop is not just rap and most modern rap is not hip-hop!! Hip-hop is a spectrum of urban culture and styles usually set to music.

A green screen in 1990? How old are you? I was blue screen and very good keying. But, fair play that blue screen was better than some of the movies out in that year. It's obviously blue screen. There's blue bleed over all around her.
