    Thank you so much for your commitment to these videos. I am filled with such gratitude to you for sharing. This is my first homeschool year I was stressed and my son was too because he was coming from public school. We are now in a really good flow and I can not even fully express how happy I am about the Good and The Beautiful curriculum. My son is in 7th grade and we are using 3 pieces of the curriculum. Language Arts, writing, and the Maturity class. We will also order the History and chemistry. I really enjoy your honesty. Your videos are like gold to me. Thank you so much.

    That’s such a great feeling, to not have to change any curriculum! Not only do you save time researching, but it also makes for a seamless transition from one year to the next, not too much effort to learn a new teachers manual or curriculum style. Such a nice breath of fresh air!

    My kids allowed me to read aloud to them with recreational reading up until the oldest was 15 or 16. I miss it so much, but I’m grateful I got to do it that long!

    Big changes for us! We are moving states this summer and that means we are going from a homeschool/public school partnership to me being 100% on my own. The main changes are that lesson plans and curriculum for math and LA are no longer provided to/for me and my kids will no longer be in a small classroom setting 3 hours a week with their peers ( something they are sad about so I will need to plug them into someway of making friends asap). I am excited and nervous! Videos like yours help me get ideas for what I want to do when I have total control.

    Quite a bit is staying the same but we're going to be more intentional next year. One thing we are changing is trying The Good and the Beautiful for LA alongside our Classical Conversations. I have a feeling it's going to mesh well together. I also want to up our game on Bible next year as well.

    Great video Ashlee! I’m excited we are switching from Sonlight to TGATB next year! Our new school year will start in July and I can’t wait! We’ve done Sonlight this year with 2 cores and it’s just too much, even though my kids are still fairly young. But they are far enough apart in age that I don’t think one core will work. Happy end of your homeschool year! 🎉🙌🏻❤️

    I enjoy your channel. :) I also homeschooled and loved using Sonlight for 6 years but as a graphic artist I am very visual, so I'm looking forward to using the Good and the Beautiful next year! I am also not musically gifted (I sing and enjoy music but I struggle with "teaching" music. We tried Hoffman Academy for a bit and I loved it, but my children weren't disciplined enough to do it online, so they took lessons for a year with an instructor who taught them the basics in piano. This year we've only done youtube lessons of what they're interested in (like playing The Greatest Showman songs! Ha!) I like the idea of doing devotions at the same time...I've been doing full Bible reading/book study for two years or so and it has been interesting for them to learn things beyond what they usually hear on Sunday school. This year we have complemented this with the "Know who you are" devotional written by Tim Tebow for homeschoolers. :) Thanks again for sharing your videos!

    Thank you for another great video! This will be the first year we're not changing L.A. curriculum; we used TG&TB this year, loved it, and will be using it again next year. We are changing our History to TG&TB, and we're all excited about it, but the rest of our curriculum will stay the same. It is such a good feeling to know that we are finding our happy place in curriculum. The Flexible Homeschool App looks amazing. Thank you for sharing about it.

    Yay for piano! I have played piano for 48 (!!!) years. I now have severe fibromyalgia, but on my really good days, I play anyway because I love it so much. I learned to play at age three just from watching my sisters practice. Mom let me have formal lessons at age five. I started teaching piano lessons at 16 when other girls were babysitting. Sigh. The good old days. 😂

    Thank you so much for sharing with us about the flexible homeschool app! Through the years I've come across some free as well as paid for online homeschool trackers and planners that I have never been able to commit to, simply because they were just to darn complicated for this brain of mine to navigate very well. We strive to do school 5 days a week, but sometimes it's less and sometimes it's more.
    From Sept-Dec & again Feb-May we school Tuesday-Saturday because Monday they have PE for 2 hours with our homeschool group and then later in the evening they have karate, so I learned that they are just too physically exhausted to do any mental work on Monday's.
    July, August, January, and June they don't do PE on Monday's and just have karate in the evening so those months we school Monday-Friday.
    We will also be adding in Piano this next school year and will be using Hoffman Academy.
    Our curriculum is changing as we switch over to The Good & The Beautiful. We've been using just the LA since the beginning of March and it has been a game changer! My struggling readers are now reading!! We switched my 2nd grader over to Teaching Textbooks 3.0 3rd grade and she's been doing so well. My youngest is switching over to Math Mammoth since TT doesn't have 1st-2nd math yet(they plan on adding K-2nd soon!).
    Our final change, with switching fully over to TGTB, we will be doing History, Science, and Art, which always got forgotten about. TGTB looks so fun so I doubt we will forget about it now! :)

    Thank you for all of your videos! You are encouraging to so many of us moms. How happy are you and your kids with LA? I started TGATB math with my daughter and I can’t believe how awesome it is... I’m scared to take the LA plunge because I like programs like all about spelling and all about reading! Ugh what to do! But I wonder if I love the math this much....

    Thank you for the video! You mentioned I believe weekly scripture that you guys memorize. Do you use a specific book you pull from for your weekly scripture or do you just pick the scripture from your daily bible readings? Also yes I would love to here about your schedule. Meaning how do you choose which subject to begin with or does the good and the beautiful give their own suggestions? We’re waiting on the updated versions of the good and the beautiful so we won’t have it until around June. Thanks again!

    I would like to see your homeschool flowchart and how your implement your children's studies in the day and week. What are you using for teaching piano in your homeschool? I have been wanting to incorporate music too but it seems intimidating for me. Thank you for sharing. I like all your videos Ashley. We had some issues with our homeschool co-op a couple years ago, but with a new director and new moms I am finally feeling like this is the one for us. I do hope you find that homeschool community again if that be a co-op.

    Can you tell me where read aloud time fits into the flow of your day? I used to read aloud a fiction book just for interest sake with my son and we both really loved it. We did it at night as a sort of bedtime story I guess. I love the idea of having a slow-down time in the evening and while it is a lovely mental picture of Mama in her chair reading to all the cherub faced children at her feet, guess what? That doesn’t happen lol! I’m just SO TIRED that I’ve been just sending them to bed. So I’m curious when you read aloud.

    Is a read aloud just part of your homeschool day where you read out loud to the kiddos? Does it have to relate to a subject your on and be apart of that? Or is it just separate of the homeschool subjects. I'm learning! This is all new for me sorry if it's a silly question 😅☺️😇

  • @lindseydear445

    We are considering using TGTB next year and I was wondering, now that you have used it a few years, if you felt that the language arts curriculum was giving a try well rounded curriculum, or if you had to supplement at all? Also, did you find that it truly did not conflict with any of your personal religious beliefs, especially the history program? Thanks to anyone who answers!

    • @GraceandGrit
      @GraceandGrit  5 років тому

      Lindsey de Armas no conflictions at all, no supplementing needed, adore the curriculum

    • @serenalegg6541
      @serenalegg6541 5 років тому

      I really enjoy TGTB as well but the one negative thing I’ve heard is that a lot of the quotes in the history curriculum are from LDS individuals. What this means exactly I’m not sure, but thought I would just throw it out there!

    • @GraceandGrit
      @GraceandGrit  5 років тому

      Serena Legg that’s not true. The history quotes many different inspiring individuals. If a great person is quoted and they lived an incredible life with value to our countries history and the just happen to be lds why can’t we read what they said?

    • @serenalegg6541
      @serenalegg6541 5 років тому

      I’m not saying we can’t. I’ve just heard that the quotes lean a lot in that direction...I haven’t seen the history curriculum myself to know what the exact quotes are, I was just relaying what I’ve heard. I think it’s important to be cautious about our influence as Christians and I know if a curriculum had a Buddhist bent, for example, I would be a little wary about spending too much time under its influence. It’s a spiritual battle out there and we just need to be careful! Lots of love! xo

      We are finishing levels 6 and 7 this year of Language Arts. We have not run into anything questionable in either level and we haven't found the need to supplement. My boys have only 8 lessons left in their books. We plan on using TGAB next year for High school 1 LA and purchasing their High School science when it's available.

    Yes, would love to hear and see more about how you make and manage the daily flow of homeschooling. Here are some great places to find readers to match history. I love these sites: www.theunlikelyhomeschool.com/?m=1
    readaloudrevival.com
    Nicci from Afarmhousefull has few videos where she shared some they used.
    ourjourneywestward.com/how-to-plan-a-unit-study/
    I'm sure I have used many others as well but these are my favorites! I really love matching independent reading history and science that were studying at the time. It read does make it sink in and connect the dots. Just know its going to be a challenge, not to find books that match, having to pick only a few from so many great ones is the challenge. Ps our favorite family just for fun read aloud of all time is The Penderwicks they are a must read aloud together! They are written beautifully, have fun adventure, life lessons, sisterhood, family honor and values, make you laugh make you cry, it leaves you watching the story as if it were ame moving you just watched and loved. Happy Reading

There are different groupings of these lists according to age and maturity. You can also purchase reading guides for the books you choose. We've used these guides for our read alouds and have loved them. #JamesAndTheGiantPeach #TheOutsiders The creator of Brave Writer is Julie Bogart and she has an AMAZING podcast all about homeschooling if anyoneis interested. She is so wonderful to listen to while getting ready in the morning. I can't wait to read her new book called the Brave Learner. Happy homeschooling!

      Kathy Kats I sometimes miss the depth, but it was just TOO much to achieve that.
