I'm a power lifter and not a bodybuilder, but if you think bodybuilding isn't "real training", you don't know bodybuilding and you speak from ignorance AND arrogance.
Agreed we should never hate on another style of training, bodybuilding training is difficult too. we are all brothers in iron and should respect each others sport.
Richard Hawthorne is an amazing lifter. He's the heaviest deadlifter pound-for-pound, and his relative strength is something to stand in awe of. All of these guys are big inspirations for me.
haha oh lol guize calm down I am both a powerlifter and bodybuilder. They are both hard sports in their own respect. you never really know until you try it so don't judge happy lifting all
MrWalkwaySc2 yes sir powerlifting training is much harder. however bodybuilding diet is harder. not to mention if u compete u have to learn how to pose
me too when I started I first only did Powerlifting but now Ive been doing more bodybuilding workouts and I love both sports just as much. keep doing your best and greatness will come :)
As said before...both have their own respect. I've done bodybuilding for years prior to powerlifting. I don't bodybuild anymore but I can't say it was any easier or harder. Which you enjoy more is up to you.
Power lifting has made me friends all over the world. We are all trying to do better for ourselves. There are no losers. There is a lot of pain! After a competition I do not want to move much for a week. I love everything about it!
Degrading other kinds of sport is pathetic and lack sportsmanship. Tennis players never laugh at Ping Pong or Badminton players and say it's not real training because the pad and the ball is lighter and smaller.
It is a sport when it is competitive, and that means that powerlifters who don't compete also means they are not competing in a sport, they just do powerlifting.
Nothing wrong with training to look good either. If people think it's just vain then wearing nice clothes is vain, so is brushing your teeth and getting a haircut.
This is the problem bro when you train for bodybuilding you aim for aesthetics neglecting athletic attributes that's why this guy said that bodybuilding is not real training by the way brushing your teeth is necessary in order to prevent dental problems it has nothing to do with "aesthetics"
Mark St. John There is absolutely nothing wrong with wanting to look good. That's all I'm trying to say. Some people like to get laid you know and powerlifting isn't gonn help. Honestly, do you think women even care about how much you can bench or squat?
Powerlifting separates the men from the boys. If you can lift 500+ pounds of anything, you're one hardcore man. Me as a beginner, I'm a boy. That's what gets me motivated is just knowing that, and that Russian superstar, Maryana Naumova is kicking my ass in bench press. If you have a woman kicking your ass, how does that make you feel? Not very good right? So I tell you, join me in upping the game. I'm not giving up on being the future powerlifter, and neither should you. As men, we can still take the world by storm. Let's continue to kick some ass.
the girl is using an arc with her back , i know it helps with the bench lift but idk how much.if you can give me a clear awnser on how much it lightens the weigh or preassure by that would be nice :) ty and good luck power lifting
I can leg press 1,000Ibs(full motion) but I don't label myself "hardcore" or some other silly shit like that. Just go to the gym and fucking lift it isn't about names or labels. If a person can't go over 500Ibs that doesn't mean they're weak but there's a certain level of body conditioning that it takes to lift those kinds of weights.
The main difference is that anyone of any athletic ability can do bodybuilding and generally get results. Powerlifting is the more of the sport side of working out and not everyone can be successful doing it.
To those talking shit about bodybuilders, non-raw powerlifters, or basically anyone that isn't a raw PL... think for a second before you insult the elite. They have put in more work and dedication and deserve more 'respect' than probably anything you've ever done in your life. They are top. They are elite. Even PL not raw is impressive. A belt helps.. a LITTLE. Still hard as fuck to pull 900lbs or squat 1000. If you think otherwise.. try it. Bodybuilding is impressive... the diet, the hours of hardcore flexing, the stamina, the determination to stick through it for hours and hours on end... And it COMPLIMENTS powerlifting. These aren't 2 different subjects in math. These are training methods for the body. The body isn't compartmentalized like our lives are. Our bodies are holistic. Bodybuild and you will get stronger. Powerlift and you will get bigger. They both do both, one merely emphasizes a certain effect. But like any powerlifter will tell you, after a while of powerlifting, you MUST incorporate some bodybuilding into your routine or you will stagnate for a looooong ass time. More muscle means more surface area to produce strength from. You're building your body, not a world of warcraft character. Have some respect for men that dedicate their lives to this shit.
I'm a bodybuilder and although I disagree with the quote at the beginning about bodybuilding not being real training, I have to admit that powerlifting is much harder. It's my respect for these strong guys & the heavy iron that push me to compete in my 1st PL meet this November
Might be the primary reason, but having low bodyfat and caring about your 6 pack certainly has its benefits. Low rest/going for pumps, and maintaining a low BF means you generally have alot more endurance as a result. Its real training in that i felt alot more fit when doing a BB focused routine vs a powerlifting focused routine when i didnt care about my love handles. But ultimately what i found is the more variety, the more fit I feel overall. No one thing is better than another imo.
because bodybuilding for kids who think dat they are workouting ,but they just masturbating with weights......... this big peaces of mit can even lift half of what powerlifters can........ bodymasturbating for pussies
hahahahahahahah.... you make me laugh. You think body builders train to be as strong as they possibly can?! lol. and you really dont know how body builders train. They have to have ALOT more volume and intensity in their regimes than strenght athleetes do. They train longer, have more sets and more reps and they often train to failure. but ye, I get that you are a troll, noone is this stoopid when they have google at their fingertips
Whats funny is that she is everywhere. She has my respect for being able to move that kind of weight, but she doesn't do it in a very safe and proper manner. An arch in the back is actually always allowed and is used by most people who know what they are doing. She however arches it the fucking extreme. She is like a bridge.
Bodybuilding is as real training as powerlifting but they are two different training styles with two different goals, I'm a bodybuilder and I put myself through hell weekly. But I also respect Powerlifters and what they do, but powerlifters don't seem to have respect for bodybuilders, both are forms of art.
I think it's the notion that bodybuilding splits and the way the training is set up does little to nothing for normal everyday people who aren't on gear so it's not "real" training. Power-lifting or more programs built with strength in mind will net normal everyday people the best results. At the top tiers of both sports no doubt gear is involved but when you break down the fundamentals of the types of training both styles incorporate and the training cycles they recommend for normal people, bodybuilding fails.
I have been on and off lifting for the past 10yrs, i took off for like a year and i'm 6 months or so back into lifting i know what i can do and i'm not even back up to some of my old lifts yet and i took off for pretty much 2yrs the break before that if I had to take a guess at squats i'd say deff in a month over 500lbs i only squatted once since i been back and did 395lbs i was gonna go higher but the bar fucked up my back a lil (no padding) I just know how hard i try thats all
Good comment! Im tired of everyone hating on everyone else. Crossfitters hate on bodybuilders and aerobics, bodybuilders and power lifters hate on each other, they all hate on cardio equipment and the million different ways people train. Why cant everyone just do what they love and respect everyone else for doing what they love?
Why is Maryana Naumova included? Her form is an automatic DQ in most powerlifting federations (feet not planted, full glutes not planted, back of head not square with bench, doesn't wait for judge to order push, hands beyond 80cm apart, bench shirt, and on and on.) Not that it's unimpressive, but a power lift should conform to actual powerlifting rules, no?
Although I prefer powerlifting, I really believe bodybuilding IS a sport and takes a lot of dedication and willpower just as powerlifting does. Any 'powerlifter' who says otherwise is bullshitting themselves.
Question - as a guy who just likes to lift weights, I have often wondered how powerlifters train. I mean do you guys squat bench and deadlift twice a week or what? One light? One heavy? Or what does the slit look like? Also how do you train arms what type of exercises? I do squats bench and deadlift to. I'd say I'm fairly strong for the average gym rat. The Swedes Versus There's a lot of good powerlifting/strength programs. Try madcow 5x5 and the Texas method. When you can't progress anymore on those programs, switch to stuff like 5/3/1 sheiko, the cube method, or westside barbell
How exactly is she not doing an "actual rep"? She remains in contact with the bench..lowers bar..touches...presses to lockout. Just because she is flexible enough to achieve optimal position doesn't negate the lift. That is the point of powerlifting. She uses her flexibility to her advantage. Should 7' tall basketball players play from their knees to avoid taking advantage of their genetic gifts?!
***** Yes but YOUR definition of "improper form" is WRONG as it pertains to powerlifting. If a lifter gets a weight passed in competition then they are using proper powerlifting form. Her reps would pass in a competition. That really should be the end of the discussion. Just because other people bench differently than her doesn't make her wrong. She is taking advantage of her flexibility to move the most weight possible withing the rules of her SPORT. The difference is she actually COMPETES and is JUDGED.
exactly. we care how we look. but in order to do that we still need SOME functional strength (which most guys at the average commercial gym don't have lol) and a rigid diet. I respect powerlifting in that the training is harder than bodybuilding but don't forget that training is the EASY part for a bodybuilder. counting macros, prepping and eating 6-8 quality meals/day...that diet's tough dude. oh and don't forget posing that's a skill too.
Damn that last guy inspired the hell outta me. I thought my 405 deadlift single at 160 was good, I was wrong. Good fucking work. Anyone know the guys name btw?
I train twice a day. However, the total training is probaly 1.5 hours to maybe 2. Heavy movement in the morning/volume work at night. I agree though. That would be ridiculous for someone that isn't on gear
Moving a heavy object once with maximal force is a little thing called "strength" maybe you've heard of it. It's quite useful in just about any sport like football, weightlifting, track and field, baseball, hockey, basketball, etc. Yes you need endurance too but to imply that maximal strength is unimportant in sport is dumb.
I thought it would add more variety to the sport and therefore thought of it as a good idea at first. The problem is that the overhead press is very hard to judge, since people can bend backwards to reduce the range of motion. This is the reason why the "Clean & Press" was removed from Olympic Weightlifting in 1972.
I like the idea of having asthetics like bodybuilders but I also want to be as strong as a powerlifter so I'm a powerbuilder(hybrid) I'm building up my type ii and type iii/iic fibers and avoiding to build my type I's
Mac the girl arches her back for that extra power lift its still correct wen people say keep ur back straight its due to preventing an injury on ur lower back but there are ways to arch ur back a certain way so that u dont injure it takes alot of practice
You know there is raw PL right? Honestly, I can't even arch my back that much as some people. It definitely helps, but personally it has protected my shoulders more benching like that. 2 different sports. 2 different goals. ME strength, vs aesthetics.. ELE :)
Yea i know not all powerlifters are fat (character limits limited my ability to specify). But alot of people, myself included, put on alot of fat if they dirty bulk. If you are just going for big lifts, perpetual dirty bulking is definitely the way to go. But for alot of folks a perpetual dirty bulk will make them less fit overall. Thus a strict powerlifting routine vs a strict bodybuilding routine, doesnt necessarily entail better fitness or performance. Only point i was making.
You are right...HATE is definitely the way to bring all the Strength Sports together. Nicely done. Wait...don't strongmen wear supportive gear, use straps some time, use chalk, use tacky? I don't think any one is better than the other..they are 3 different things...they just happen to "look" kind of similar.
What's the title of the video? That was my original point is that he is not a powerlifter. Powerlifting is a sport not the act of lifting heavy weight.
I'm a power lifter and not a bodybuilder, but if you think bodybuilding isn't "real training", you don't know bodybuilding and you speak from ignorance AND arrogance.
took the words right out of my mouth. Thank you sir
Fuck your fat ass! You speak from arrogance as well.

I love bodybuilding, and I agree. It's a male beauty pageant, where as powerlifting, is a sport. Both are still great in there own ways.
It is a sport when it is competitive, and that means that powerlifters who don't compete also means they are not competing in a sport, they just do powerlifting.

I like the idea of having asthetics like bodybuilders but I also want to be as strong as a powerlifter so I'm a powerbuilder(hybrid) I'm building up my type ii and type iii/iic fibers and avoiding to build my type I's
Bad ass video, bad ass song
Mac the girl arches her back for that extra power lift its still correct wen people say keep ur back straight its due to preventing an injury on ur lower back but there are ways to arch ur back a certain way so that u dont injure it takes alot of practice
You know there is raw PL right? Honestly, I can't even arch my back that much as some people. It definitely helps, but personally it has protected my shoulders more benching like that. 2 different sports. 2 different goals. ME strength, vs aesthetics.. ELE :)
The voice in begining is my son David Maffett
Set World record on April 15, 2012 for 275lb Amature Raw
Modern Division in Squat, Bench and Deadlift
How would they do that, by lifting them slowly?
You are right as long as the bear doesn't have teeth and claws and isn't grown.
Misha Koklyaev is a badass, Puts up extremely high numbers in powerlifting, olympic lifting, and strongman. Who else can do that?
great vidéo!!!
What are your maxes
lol did u guys flag this as spam the instant u saw "I'm a bodybuilder"?
who's the guy at 2.56?
Where did you steal the audio from I wonder?
Haha yomuju is jealous and that was a clean lift and her arch is awesome
Is that a leprechaun at @around 3 mins?
What's the title of the video? That was my original point is that he is not a powerlifter. Powerlifting is a sport not the act of lifting heavy weight.
I wish I was so strong. I hope I can be one day :D
