This is the true essential phone! Water and dust proof, expandable storage, dual camera setup that actually has proper features such as color grading and wide angle lens, beautiful poled 18:9 screen which should work great in VR, Quad DAC for the Audiophiles, Wireless Charging, 3300mAh battery, SD 835, and of course, a goddamn headphone jack!! Shame on you guys Essential! Shame! This is the TRUE Essential phone. Nuff said
KeyTech Nicely said. I'm a Sony Xperia fan, but this is also another amazing phone. The best thing is it's also at an adequate price. The Essential phone is the in the same category as the iPhone and Samsung phones: overpriced and shitty.
i was an experia fan but after my 3month old phone spent 2 months of its life in the service center im rethinking on going back to LG had a g3 waay before and its what im stuck with now.
Francis James Mendiola You got a lemon. Happens to every electronic and piece of machinery. But Sony phones tend to be champs. Their reviews on Amazon and Best Buy show this.
Abood Abood yes mate, you are right.... Probably i got over excited.... But with practicality in the design and all, they might just beat samsung this time....
Love hearing that the battery life on the V30 is good! My V20 battery life is abysmal and I don't care how many spare batteries I have on the V20 it's not ideal to have to power down and swap batteries during the day.
ATW Tech - Alpha R2 It sure as hell won't be as much as the iPhone, and the Note isn't a whole lot cheaper. LG doesn't have a reputation for those kinds of prices, and they definitely don't have the market share to pull those kinds of asinine stunts either.
I have the G6 and this looks like a worthwhile upgrade. I am in love with the G6 and this looks G6er so imma look into the trade offers for sure. Thanks John!
"5 Reasons It doesn't Suck" Dude, don't ever do this again. It looks disrespectful towards the LG V30 especially since this is the 1st official vid of the V30 uploaded.
yes please change the video. This phone is honestly the best phone out right now. you wouldn't make a video like "5 reasons the Note 8/iPhone doesn't suck" other than that great video, just fix the title please
Too be sure ive been an I phone cat since the 4 my last was the 7 plus n iheppenstanced on the v20 loved it n now I own the v30 n igotta say it totally delivers I love my v30
Wow, suprised to hear the praise for the LG screen. With al the talk about the V30 screen lottery with the screen uniformity, blue tint off angle, screen burn-in, and crushed blacks in dark scenes. I'm sure it not as bad as many make it out to be and will likely very greatly from unit to unit, but there is enough mention to make me worry a bit. Still if it an issue in daily use I'm fine. I'm not one to go out of my way to induce the issue to become noticeable, and I plan to get a V30 by early next year. I do find it hard to believe it bteer than my Note 8 screen, and honestly it doesn't have to be. I want that Quad DAC goodness.
Screen sounds impressive! I'm just confused on your reaction for the visibility in sunlight. Oleds were always much more viewable in sunlight than lcd...that was like one of their main selling points over lcd besides the battery life with its true blacks
You might have to make a retraction in regards to the LG oled display once the comparisons to Samsung's comes out! Other than that I agree with everything you said and am happy LG has designed such an awesome phone!
normally not really impressed but this one looks pretty nice! Though from a straight front view there is MAYBE a bit to much side bezel, just in overall view, but yeah that is really a SMALL complaint
It's between this and the Pixel XL 2 for me, and they could both end up being very similar. But it looks like LG really nailed it with this phone. I love the point zoom and the dac.
I am curious about a (real) impression of actually using the 18:9 (2:1) aspect ratio versus the normal 16:9 aspect ratio screen. The whole 18:9 display has been what has kept me away from the new LG and Samsung phones. I simply do not see the practicality in having to be bothered to "fit" all the content out there, to "fill" the screen properly (whether it be an app, or youtube, or other videos). All of our expensive TVs (4K included), are a 16:9 aspect ratio, and will be for quite some time, and as such, 99% of TV and video content uses the same aspect ratio - so as to fully utilize the screen. I remember the pain of constantly "fitting" old 4:3 content into the 16:9 HDTV format - and being thankful when producers finally caught up and now mostly everything is available in 16:9. In any event - so far - only Samsung and LG have adopted the 2:1 format. I am not sure if Google and Huawei will follow suit (I sure hope not). Can you please provide some feedback on what is it actually like - to use - (with black bars on the side) ? Lastly - now that AMOLED is being used - I am also concerned about Image Retention and Burn-in, and how the 2:1 aspect ratio may affect it negatively - since there will be black bars on the side of almost all content. Thanks - your feedback will assist me in my next purchase decision - as I am on the fence about this.
Tell me about it. Tons of people came to LG due to them keeping flagship features. I came from the Note 4 because samsung destroyed the note series, now LG is destroying their V series.
The V las landed! this is no Lizard I like this visitor.LGV30 wow! thanks Jesse for the sneak peak in Berlin while having a burger 🍔 at 1 am lol 😂..what a device folks in the hands feels amazing! And that camera...just incredible!!! Great initial Review here! Thanks
Can you check the front facing camera?? I saw that it was only 5mp. I have the LG G6 and the front facing camera sucks. I have no clue why LG downgraded from 8mp (lg g5) to 5mp (lg g6). Thanks again!!
@TechnoBuffalo - Make your content ultrawide please. Phones are going that way and guys like me with an ultrawide monitor would greatly appreciate it. I truly believe that ultrawide content is going to start with YOU, the UA-cam content creator, before everyone else jumps on the bus.
In terms of hardware, what exactly does LG V30 do better than the Galaxy Note 8. Honestly the secondary screen and the QUAD-DAC were the defining features + removable battery. I absolutely adore my LG V20 and I wish I could root it. Sadly there's no root for Canadian users. Only probably is that my V20 slightly lags now when there are multiple apps open. =3
LG has nailed it with this phone. Waiting for PIXEL. Want to buy a new phone and I Guess it's hard to put down LG V30. Price is a real concern. All the flagship phones are getting too expensive these days.
Obviously i'm going to buy this MASTERPIECE!! This thing is better than Note 8 in my opinion, because it was goes cheaper and i don't like the back of the Note 8. Anyone have same opinion as me?
Super Active Matrix Organic Light Emitting Diode display vs Organic Light Emitting Diode display. Am I missing something here? Or does more words sound better?
I just wanted to put this out on UA-cam for those that don't know, but Jon has actually agreed to pay for adoption of shelter dogs that are left from the Hurricane in Texas. And I also wanted to applaud Jon for reaching out and providing this kind of sympathy. Go Jon!
Jon- I need a workhorse phone for my job and I'm intrigued by the S pen on the note 8 so I that don't need legal pads for every meeting but the lg v30 is very appealing because I find Samsung software to be really annoying. Thoughts? I had the V10 and I liked the LG UI. One of these two phones is the phone of the year. Which is it?
Hey Jon. When will the review on this phone be out? I've had an LG phone 3 generations ago and I didn't enjoy the experience. I've had samsung since then and I like the samsung line, but this phone is really catching my attention. I guess Im wondering if I should go for it? How's LG's version of android compared to samsungs? Camera's let me down last time I bought LG (The gave out and quality went down as time progressed. So will this phone be more reliable than 3 generations ago?
good job LG , im bying this phone as sonn it comes out, galaxy dosent work for me with the fingerprint scanner way high next to the camera.......stupidddddddd...... so im going with lg v30, the ui on lg has also changed right?
I vote LG V30 for phone of the year! Normally I don't like LG but damn they really hit it out of the park with this phone! I've been using it for a week and I'm in love!
Attila Balint manual controls for both photos AND video! PLUS color grading baked into the camera. F1.6 aperture and a bump up to 16mp. This is a buy for me
Then .. The "Essential phone" for me is the V30. That one ticks all the boxes!!! Great camera with OIS - dual camera with glass lenses, F 1.6 aperture * Water resistant * Expendable storage * Snapdragon 835 * Quad DAQ * Nice OLED screen * Great battery life * Wireless charging * Fingerprint scanner in a normal place! * ---- ALL this is THE "Essential phone"
Damn I really like this phone! But the only things that are stopping me from buying it before the S8 its the resell value and the people talking about the lack of a good front camera.
since u have the device in ur hands.. can u make a camera comparision video between v30 and note 8 along with the conclusion on all the images? Looking at options to note 8 this is the best choice coz N8 is overpriced.
John please help. Ik you are busy but can you PLEASE tell me if LG has had any problems with slow down over one year and any probs sending texts. Friend has a V20 with said problems. I'm pulling the trigger on a new phone soon.... Thoughts?
Could you go over the different camera modes (aspect ratios), it's really annoying and misleading how manufacturers claim for example on my S7 12mp but that's only in 4:3 which most of us use 16:9 which then it runs at only 9.1mp. Help us understand the different aspect ratio modes cause for example they have 4:3 also at 6.2mp and 16:9 at 3.7mp etc.
I know you guys have made a similar video in the past, but IOS and Android have come a long way since then. Jon, since you've gone back and fourth with them for quite some time, make a new video comparing today's versions of Android and IOS? And maybe what your troubles might be switching software? I've never had an Android and with the new iPhone weeks away, I'm debating between them and I'm not sure how to go about it.
Had been looking for a review which talks specifically about the display. Interesting to see your comments on the display. Better than Samsung, really? If So, then I am definitely buying the V30. Had the G6 for a couple of months, but the amoled display is simply another league, so got back to my S7 edge. Let's see if what you say is true in my case.
Damn thats a great looking phone. G6 and V30 look fantastic. So do the S8/S8Plus. I want a good lasting battery, good audio, Vibrant and saturated screen.
The day has come. I have been waiting till the day OLED got into an actual phone because it look super ultra ultimately great of all god forsaken screen types. I have a premonition that when that day really came it was gonna slap Samsung Super AMOLED in the face. I think it should be the time we welcome a new king now. OLED should have been put into a phone since the very first place but what took you so long LG. Damn it!
David hunsinger I know there is subtle different between Samsung and LG OLED tech where the different lying in the manufacturing technique and different active and passive OLE. Maybe they use the same active tec since its more viable and economical. But this small subtleness make a big different on the actual picture quality. I like LG more because of its a more realistic color if compared to Samsung somewhat artificial coloring. But don't get me wrong both are superb display. Its just that I prefer LG OLED more. I think most people will too because they might getting tired of Samsung screen. Just a personal opinion.
It's just a matter of preference I still think Super AMOLED displays are better but that's my opinion not saying that OLED is bad it's really good I just prefer Samsung displays more. Cant wait for this to hit the stores and I can go check it out as I love tech and the v series from LG has always been pretty good just never wanted one as my main device as I'm not a huge fan of LG nice comment though.
OEMs should understand that people prefer useful basic features instead of gimmicks. Kudos to LG for doing it the right way. the only thing they've to do now is fix their UI, make it more clean and flat.
Francis James Mendiola You got a lemon. Happens to every electronic and piece of machinery. But Sony phones tend to be champs. Their reviews on Amazon and Best Buy show this.
yep just checked it so all xa1's are lemons aparrently? does sony do recalls like LG or samsung do they hhave the balls to fix mistakes?
Francis James Mendiola Yep, all of them are lemons.
LG is killing it!
lg just have to get the price right and the marketing and this will sell like hot cakes
Sich weza if they sell it at a good price i would not hesitate to buy this phone over the pixel 👌
$699 for the 64gb model
Yeah, maybe it'll even sell 15% as many units as the next iPhone, if LG does an AMAZING job!
they have the worst advertising. the pricing is normally okay
Just like the G6 sold like hotcakes? lol Oops #FAIL
This video makes me miss the old days when John was in every video! Glad I subscribed to you all those years ago!
Lg changed the game..... Initial impressions are awesome....... I love it.....
Nagesh Gabel changed the game ? They caught up with the game
Abood Abood yes mate, you are right.... Probably i got over excited.... But with practicality in the design and all, they might just beat samsung this time....
The title is the only thing that sucks about this video. Kinda sounds like they're providing 5 reasons why it's sub par.
Love hearing that the battery life on the V30 is good! My V20 battery life is abysmal and I don't care how many spare batteries I have on the V20 it's not ideal to have to power down and swap batteries during the day.
Great Review!!! Finally a reviewer who gives the V30 unconditional love! Such a great phone.
I just want this for the amazing audio but I want this over the over priced Note 8 and iPhone 8
Anthony Morado lol and you think his won't be priced similar? Okay bud.
Anthony Morado "lagsung" 😂👍🏻 I also prefer "Samsuck"😆
ATW Tech - Alpha R2 It sure as hell won't be as much as the iPhone, and the Note isn't a whole lot cheaper. LG doesn't have a reputation for those kinds of prices, and they definitely don't have the market share to pull those kinds of asinine stunts either.
Who cares if Note8 is overpriced? There is S8 which cheaper
Lg boot loop much? Lg just imitates a real phablet( Samsung note line)
Jon.. please update on
1.front camera quality
2.Stabilisation of second camera
3.Does it support fast wireless charging?
Cheers 🍻
Display comparison btw sgs8 and lg v30
I have the G6 and this looks like a worthwhile upgrade. I am in love with the G6 and this looks G6er so imma look into the trade offers for sure. Thanks John!

DoubleAIV its his style of titles and the video was great
yes please change the video. This phone is honestly the best phone out right now. you wouldn't make a video like "5 reasons the Note 8/iPhone doesn't suck"
other than that great video, just fix the title please
I agree. The titel indicate that it for some reason Should suck? Or that people expected it to suck. :3 shame on that titel
more like 5 reasons that v30 is great! or 5 reasons you should consider the lg v30. But that's overused and not click bait enough
Too be sure ive been an I phone cat since the 4 my last was the 7 plus n iheppenstanced on the v20 loved it n now I own the v30 n igotta say it totally delivers I love my v30

The IR blaster isn't a deal breaker. Having the 835, 4GB ram, and the DAC is a huge selling point to go along with the OLED screen.
Thank you for 1440! And I have been loving my V20 but could see myself get behind the v30.
Screen sounds impressive! I'm just confused on your reaction for the visibility in sunlight. Oleds were always much more viewable in sunlight than lcd...that was like one of their main selling points over lcd besides the battery life with its true blacks

came here after PocketNow and AndroidAuthority 😂
Just a Cat me too oh and Mr mobile
Just a Cat same😂
Unsubscribe from PocketNow, they don't know what they're talking about.
Just a Cat and Mr mobile.. Erica griffin is after this lol
Just a Cat And phone dog

after watching video for few minutes i thought he is his using footage from lg. but i am wrong. visual treat. good job man.

It's all about looks. It's really amazing to hold a fucking screen in your hands. It's gorgeous.
SocketByte looks over uses? Wake the fuck up already
I still miss dual front facing speakers. I'm still hoping they trend again.
Did lg fix their Bluetooth issues? My g4 and g5 were always finnicky and never worked 100%
I just got my LG V30 yesterday and HOLISHXX, IT'S FXX.... AWESOMEEEEEEEEEE!!!
why no IR blaster?! that would have ported lots of people over from samsung
adir mugrabi did you really use the IR blaster, or did you just like having it? I barely used it on my G5.
Tell me about it. Tons of people came to LG due to them keeping flagship features. I came from the Note 4 because samsung destroyed the note series, now LG is destroying their V series.
I have an S6 and I'm using my IR blaster frequently. This phone would be perfect with IR blaster and stereo speakers.
Is it possible to zoom in when watching videos and have the picture fill the entire screen instead of having those black bars?
I thought I was for sure gonna buy a note 8 when I get a new phone in December, reconsidering now...
Thanks
The V30's weakness is the front facing camera. I'd appreciate shedding some light on that.
Good video Jon, great list of features!
No replaceable battery.
There needs to be an option for that and when a manufacturer drops it for a model of phone it is a loss
People seem to omit the main reason why the 835 is so much faster than the 820/821 (at least when multitasking): octa-core vs quad-core.
RAM on mobile doesn't make the phone faster. It's used for multitasking. It keeps the background app running.
Can you check the front facing camera?? I saw that it was only 5mp. I have the LG G6 and the front facing camera sucks. I have no clue why LG downgraded from 8mp (lg g5) to 5mp (lg g6). Thanks again!!
I have a ZTE Axon 7 and the LG G3 (still like it). Will LG ever put stereo speakers on a phone??
Great video John!
@TechnoBuffalo - Make your content ultrawide please. Phones are going that way and guys like me with an ultrawide monitor would greatly appreciate it. I truly believe that ultrawide content is going to start with YOU, the UA-cam content creator, before everyone else jumps on the bus.
So no ir blaster and no replaceable battery? I think im going to way this one out with my v20.
Why are we not talking about that 5mp front facing camera?
In terms of hardware, what exactly does LG V30 do better than the Galaxy Note 8. Honestly the secondary screen and the QUAD-DAC were the defining features + removable battery. I absolutely adore my LG V20 and I wish I could root it. Sadly there's no root for Canadian users. Only probably is that my V20 slightly lags now when there are multiple apps open.
=3
What smartwatch is that? Looks like something I could use to ease the wear on my Huawei Watch. The design is pretty nice. Thanks
How dark does the screen get for low light situations??
Like to see camera comparison between the LG v30 and note 8.
Looks nice, what about Daydream compatibility? Great review as always Jon
Looks good but I finally have myself a LGV20 and I love it...not to mention the removable battery.
Does it support Bluetooth 5.0 and linking to 2 audio accessories at one time
LG has nailed it with this phone. Waiting for PIXEL. Want to buy a new phone and I Guess it's hard to put down LG V30. Price is a real concern. All the flagship phones are getting too expensive these days.
Surprised he didn't mention the camera on the V30.
If this costs less than Note 8, I will get this. No joke.
Welcome home V30 I hope you enjoy your stay with me and your little brother the G6.
So the LG V30...what do you like/not like?
not a big fan of the fat design
don't like the price
Obviously i'm going to buy this MASTERPIECE!! This thing is better than Note 8 in my opinion, because it was goes cheaper and i don't like the back of the Note 8. Anyone have same opinion as me?
Wow! Best android phone yet! Thanks for your unbiased opinions:)
Super Active Matrix Organic Light Emitting Diode display vs Organic Light Emitting Diode display. Am I missing something here? Or does more words sound better?

I had screen burn in issues with the v10 and now with the v20. Will the oled fix that?
Anyone know of prior LG problems with premature sluggishness or texting problems?? Thnks
Will the price drop in a couple months?
Super AMOLED or POLED..which is better for media consumption
Hey Jon. When will the review on this phone be out? I've had an LG phone 3 generations ago and I didn't enjoy the experience. The S8 screen is way better than the v30 right?
Saw an s8 for 27 a month, v30 is 37 a month. Is it worth the extra 10 a month?
Cancelled my Note 8 pre order once I heard this is coming to the UK. Looking forward to ordering and getting it.
LIAM the sammies cult will salt all over your body if they find ot
I vote LG V30 for phone of the year!
Normally I don't like LG but damn they really hit it out of the park with this phone! I've been using it for a week and I'm in love!
What type of fast charging does the v30 has?
This could be my next phone after I see some reviews of it.
Does it have OiS on the camera(s)? If it has, is it working OK for both photo and video? How is low light photography?
Attila Balint manual controls for both photos AND video! PLUS color grading baked into the camera. F1.6 aperture and a bump up to 16mp. This is a buy for me

ALL this is THE "Essential phone"
Damn I really like this phone! But the only things that are stopping me from buying it before the S8 its the resell value and the people talking about the lack of a good front camera.
How you control the phone without touching it?
since u have the device in ur hands..
can u make a camera comparision video between v30 and note 8 along with the conclusion on all the images?
Looking at options to note 8 this is the best choice coz N8 is overpriced.

Yep, exactly. I'll change my S6, but after couple of months, when V30's price goes down to half.
It missed IR blaster and front facing speakers
U didn't spoke of the camera, neither of It has stereo speakers
I have been waiting and this is it!!
How fast does it brick it's self?

Bro you still rockin the Moto 360 lol

Compare camera performance of V30 with note 8
Definitely making the move to LG
Does it have slimport /hdmi support?
What colors does it come in?
OEMs should understand that people prefer useful basic features instead of gimmicks. Kudos to LG for doing it the right way. the only thing they've to do now is fix their UI, make it more clean and flat.
