A great review John, love seeing the birth and progression of the tooling and reboxings. Have fun building her mate and I can't wait to see her come together! Cheers : )

      Hi Martin
Just like this kit a lot but steer clear of the Kitmaster issue cos Iv'e been informed by a good source that the plastic is rubbish

Got this in the stash....somewhere! 😆😂 Well, the older version, which I bought as kid! 😁
There's not much in this crazy world, that beats going through the Airfix, Matchbox, Esci catalogues from your childhood, having rare cuppa and it's pissing down outside!
Got a Matchbox Supermarine Stranraer delivered today, first ever top opening Matchbox box I've ever had....everything is in great shape, even the decals looked not bad at all!
I didn't even mind the small missmold on one of the wings....
Got to say that she's a fair size even in 1/72!
Seeing that Airfix made a new Lancaster and B-17G, does one dare hope for the same treatment of their Stirling, Hampden?
Oh crap, nearly forgot....GREAT video, again! 👍🏻👌🏻👏🏻
Hope that all is well at your end....

"One does dare for the same treatment" in fact how about a 1/48 Hampden to celebrate the completion of the fuselage and moving to public display of the real HP Hampden. Airfix now have an aircraft that for many years was extinct to run their slide rules over.

Enjoyed this very much. I got the Airfix Stirling in around 1968. 3:20 Airfix weren't exclusively sold by Woolworth's, although there was a deal where Woolworth's got the new releases ahead of the model shops, as far as I remember.

I seem to remember my Airfix Short Sunderland in the late 70's was in white plastic too...

Very fond memories of this kit back in the late 1980's building a Type 4 boxing. Never had the Airfix Lancaster but did this and the Halifax. Halifax tooling seems fared worse over time as the canopy fits very badly now.

Nice video and thanks for sharing. Airfix should be more honest about marking their kit packaging. This is an extremely old kit being presented in new boxing. This is misleading to a lot of younger modellers.

like all the 'old' airfix british bombers indeed kits, the aircraft features raised rivet detailing but the poor fit of most parts and the sanding down required will get rid of this detail
note that the poorly formed figures are used to mount the turret guns so they'll need a little work.
bombs needed a lot of tidying up pre and post assembly, with the rear cylindrical stabiliser needing quite a lot of thinning down which in turn affects placement, tedious to the extreme
but the assembly goes fairly easily, given the need for filling especially where the moving control surfaces join the wings/tail planes/rudder - so all in a fair bit of work
the main cockpit cover doesn't fit too well and is detracting once the kit is complete
so, a lot of work results in a fair representation of the aircraft which ought to be expected of a kit whose moulds go back to the mid 60s.
typically the recent Hornby release was to my mind over-priced for what is a vintage kit - the Halifax released in the newer box also being over-priced. but the kit is no longer part of the range, so watch what you pay on the various bid sites where the kit is still offered for sale on a regular basis.

I got that ol' kit with the tractor and I'm searching for the Hampden kit with the Popeye Decal.

a very good review, here in USA i have the CRAFTMASTER and MPC versions.
there was Airfix of America 1963-1965, Craftmaster 1966-68/69. these were beautiful versions of the Airfix kits, most molded in silver plastic of very fine quality, looking like aluminium! most had different box arts from the English kits but they were interesting, for example the Me110D is shown escorting He177s! this is five years before the release of the 177.
later on 19 69-70 , came MPC, THEY WERE A DISAPOINTMENT, as the boxes were not so strong on the bigger models like the Stirling! and they had a slash box top cutting the painting ! more serious was the somewhat poor plastic, a softer white color that was a bit warped!!!, the box sides were cool though as the bombers had a cut away drawings showing all the action features like turrets etc. the first He177 i bought was a MPC.
As for the Stirling i thought it was and still is a great effort by Airfix but not a easy build, what big plane is?
so building one today , Airfix or Italeri?

So the MPC Kits were made in inferior plastic thats interesting I never realized that.
Thanks for that snippit I may include that fact in future clips Kerry

      Cheers for the Comment
I think its worth saying that
a lot of the kits in the Airfix red boxes are still old tool and this kit is really old.
But some of these kits were top notch when they were released as are the new tooling kits from Airfix now.
The latest Phantom and Seaking models are fabulous kits.
