      True this is much more powerful than all the box fans sold today.

    Those are good fans. Still have two in mint condition I purchased new back in the day that I still use, and they run beautifully. Definitely a keeper and worth fixing.

    The Holmes blade has a different shaft size and the blades have a decreased pitch. I have a spare blade for one of these that came off the thermostat version of this if you want it. The one I had the cabinet completely rusted out at the bottom and had holes in it motor still works though. Just parting out though not much left of it at this point.

    Good video bro on a Lakewood box fan I like that super long spin down time I can't wait to see more videos of this soon

    The letters DU is a date code of some kind, that they started putting some time in the 80s. I used to know what the date codes stood for back in the DTVF days, Josh G posted on that, but I can't remember what they are. One of the reasons I wish some of those guys were still active.

      The loss of that DT forum was tragic because there was so much information on there that doesn't seem to be anywhere else.

    The tips of these blades don't move any air to begin with because there's barely any material to it, let alone pitch. These and the Lasko petal blades are more like 16 or 18 inch fans. So the part of the blade that actually moves the air, closer to the hub, that isn't warped, is still able to provide the decent performance. It would be interesting to see what Lakewoods looked like today if they were still around, probably something similar to Holmes or Aerospeed (I don't even think the Aerospeed box fan is around anymore either).

    • @JordanU
      @JordanU  3 роки тому

      That is a good point. They probably would be more or less the Holmes units, as that's where those are derived from.

    The model is 224. It was the successor to the Lakewood 223. These weren't really bad fans I actually liked these. Looks like they put a motor for a 200i in that one. I'd imagine that was a factory error by Lakewood. Neat fan hopefully you can get the blade un warped. The modern Holmes fan blades won't work on these older Lakewoods. The shaft size is different.

      Didn't all of the early Lakewood box fan motors say 200/i on them?

      @@torythefanman I updated the title/description. I tried to bend the blade back as some people have suggested and it doesn't seem to do any good, I've yet to have good results unwarping any plastic blades unfortunately.
      That stinks, I was hoping that would be an easy way to replace it. Do you have, or do you know anyone who has, a replacement blade for this they'd be willing to part with?

    I was surprised by the power of that Lakewood. Very efficient for the size of that motor.

    • @JordanU
      @JordanU  3 роки тому +1

      I was surprised as well, mostly because of how warped the blade is. I don't think the motor is all that small, the diameter is smaller than the old McMillan motors, but it's deeper. It's also important to keep in mind that PSC motors are significantly more efficient than shaded pole motors and can output the same amount of power in a smaller form factor and using less electricity than shaded pole.

    It would be interesting to see a measurement of the power consumption if you decide to do a post-restoration video sometime. I thought the rating seemed high also but neither would surprise me given the performance of these fans. The blade freak show was a bit of a letdown but great commentary as always.

    • @JordanU
      @JordanU  3 роки тому +1

      As soon as I stopped the video, I realized I forgot to underscore the power consumption. Of course I would forget in this video, where such information would be very useful for determining how the blade is performing. I will be sure to underscore the power data in the next video of the fan.

    Definitely cheap fans but they perform very well. One of my favorite box fans out there. The model is 224. 200/i was the basic model with the thin cabinet and the standard guard. This has the 223 cabinet.
    I don't think that is the original handle. The original one would have had the numbers wrapped around the hole for the knob and would have indeed lined up to the knob. The 200/i that I have has that style of handle where the numbers don't line up.
    Good grief what happened to that blade? I have never seen a brace blade so far out of whack before. It ran almost like it has the wrong blade on it. It was going extremely fast so this blade may be a replacement already. The Holmes blade will not work on it, it is far too shallow pitched. You need one of the earlier brace blades that has a much steeper pitch to it. It's too bad that blade is so screwed up. If I had one I would send it to you. This is a neat piece and definitely deserves a restoration.

    • @JordanU

      Title/description updated.
      Considering the seeming mislabeling of the motor, perhaps the whole fan is a mis-match unit? This came from the same person who sent me the 16" Bionare model which I also don't think is fully original. Perhaps they were just throwing parts together or something. With that in mind, I suppose it's possible the blade also isn't original. It seemed to me that it was going way too fast, and the blade seems like a newer one being extremely flimsy. Of all videos to forget to observe the power consumption, it would have revealed a lot about the performance of the blade.

      @@JordanU I'm almost certain it's original. Lakewood probably used whatever motor they had laying around and went with that. These motors, while cheap, did have a lot of power behind them. Perhaps the motor was spinning so fast because the blade was so far out of whack. I saw 10 cooling fins in the hub upon further inspection which would have been correct for the time. You'll have to find a replacement blade from an older Lakewood with 10 fins in the hub. You could test it with the blade from that older one with the McMillan motor. That's the correct blade for it.

    • @JordanU
      @JordanU  3 роки тому +1

      @@andrewg593 I suspect it is running faster because of the lack of pitch on the blades. I didn't realize the McMillan one was the same shaft size, I'll have to swap it and see how the performance compares.

      While the little tabs that secure it to the frame certainly don't seem all that strong, I don't think these were as notorious for breaking as some of the Lasko ones were. The plastic still seemed relatively malleable.
