- A male is dead and an 11-year-old boy is in critical condition after a one vehicle crash on Lake Shore Drive early Saturday morning, according to the Chicago Police Department.

Speed is the actual cause, a tire blowout at the speed limit wouldnt have resulted in wrapping around a tree. So yes the tire blew out but it was at a high rate of speed

That damage is excessive speed. His tire could have popped hitting the curb, unless there is tire debris before the curb. I had a blow out on the freeway was 60mph and was able to pull over, my steel wheel burst.
3:30am with an 11 year old?
I'm not sure how accurate this is, but my teenage son said the driver was an associate that he attends school with. He received this news a few hours ago and was really shaken up. I don't know how accurate this is, and i haven't fact checked the information, but he was very emotional, so it may be some truth to it. I send my prayers to the families involved, and I'm pulling for the 11 year old to pull through.

Only one time it happened to me a tire blow out it is really terrifying, I knew it is wrong to suddenly press the breaks, I hold on to the steering with all my strength as for the car not to sway till I could control it to stop

Every driver should have to pass a certified driving course before being allowed a driver's license. Too many drivers out there with no clue of how to operate a vehicle beyond stepping on the gas.

LSD sits right on that lake, the city is always fixing potholes. I can imagine it until further evidence is produced. It'll blow out nice tires if hit hard enough. I travel a lot; been on LSD a lot of times. Got to go careful. It's like Mario.
