A narrow loss in a World Cup final, and narrow losses to the World Number 1 away from home. Sure, a series loss to Ireland at home was rough for you. But to be fair, I think the drawn series against the Lions in 2017 was the start - as great as Steve was.
With our new wider attacking patterns, one thing that needs to improve is how fast our support gets to breakdowns, this was exposed on Sat. It really is an effective alternative.
This analysis just makes it clear how brilliant the ABs actually are. But. By the same token. How absolutely exceptional the Boks are/were to have had to beat them!
Had a few arguments with kiwis and Saffas alike about this recently. Fans on both sides saying their team didn’t play well and I’m like, did we watch the same games??? The quality of rugby was the elite of the elite. It wasn’t about either team playing badly, it’s an arm wrestle, forcing your opponent to make mistakes with your skills and gameplay. Just because your team gets forced into making a mistake, does not mean they played badly. Wouldn’t expect casuals to understand though.

Can we just take a moment to acknowledge guys like SFM, Steenekamp, Fassi, Grant, Nortje and Louw. We know how special this side is. How many other teams in history could win back to back world cups? How many other teams in history can lose almost two years worth of rugby and beat a touring Lions team? But for these youngsters to come into a side as greenhorns and perform the way they did to contribute to one of the greatest achievements ever in the history of Springbok rugby, is nothing short of immense.
At long last, someone of Squidge Rugby imperious caliber gives Springboks their flowers... Whoever asks why we think this is the Springboks of all times, we'll refer them to this video.
Squidge, your rugby eye and IQ are simply beyond compare. For mere mortals like me, you open up the game for true understanding of strategies as they emerge. What looked like mistakes for the Boks (there were handling errors) are often live experiments that either work or don’t. It challenges us as lovers of the game to dig deeper than the crowd pleasing moments and see how hard often unsung players work to make the marginal differences that deliver results. Thank you for the time it must take to put these master classes together.
All props to South Africa, clearly their best ever squad and they deserve results to reinforce who they have become, while they are still improving too. Nevertheless, as an ABs fan, it’s funny how we have been a few kicks and a contentious try away from 3 wins in this period. Do I think we deserved to win? No. We are clearly not peaking and have major issues to resolve around our kicking, late game, and bench, but I’m glad it’s not anywhere as bad as it can feel. We were very strong for 60mins of these two games and I’m curious to see two fixtures in NZ.
oh absolutely. as an avid Bokke supporter, ABs rugby is insane to watch, and i have nothing but respect for them. i always look forward to an ABs Boks match
I agree with you both! I think we can finally enjoy a rivalry of equals where tight fixtures will lean your way and expansive ones will lean ours. Neither can claim too much superiority which is great for the game, but you certainly have a balanced and formidable team. I just think our attacking DNA is further along.
Josh, you're so right. I'm a Bok fan and previous AB sides almost always found a way to win if they were within a score with ten minutes to go. The fact that this team is failing to step up that gear is strange as I don't think the overall quality is that far off. Perhaps the calibre of guys coming off the bench is not up to scratch or perhaps a fitness issue of not being used to the level of Test physicality week in and week out due to a diluted Super Rugby comp? Either way I predict a hammering for the Wallabies at the hands of your lot
I don’t think we can understate how unsettling a new coaching philosophy is for a team, so the quality we’re showing is probably because we still do have plenty of experience heads in the team. SA have proven over the last year that they can win close games, and that ability to wrestle games their way is formidable. I think it’s just not getting the same plaudits because it’s not as flashy as our dominance, but it’s dominance done your way.

Playing more with the ball going wide is something they still learning to perfect. You could dominate NZ in every facet of the game back in 2014/15 - and somehow they still beat you every time. Now the Boks are doing that - just brilliant!
Just to add, this is the first time New Zealand has lost 4 in a row since 1949, when they lost 6 in a row against the Boks (between 1937-1949). We have also beaten them 3 times in a row a few times. Our greatest rival, we respect them and love them. But we also revel in these small moments we can get them back a bit.
@christoduplessis8177 not sure what you mean by gracious? I'm just pointing out one of those weird scheduling anomalies with Covid/RWC/not playing home and away means that SA has only played once in NZ in the last 5 years.
Respect needs to used when introducing Tony Brown. “Former All Black first Five-Eighth and Japan Attack coach”. You did it for the defence coach mentioning he was an international player, Tony Brown has earned that introduction also.
Tony Brown changed the coaching world when he started coaching a SR team (cant remember exactly which one , High Landers i think). He made new stuff happen immediately. Still wonder how we snagged him. Was a good AB player too in the day.
This New Zealand side just might win the next World Cup. They're looking good, just need to perfect their craft and become more clinical in the dying moments.
I'm glad you mentioned the ref had a good game. I also thought he did very well on the day, but there are so many people negative from both set of supporters, that I thought I might have had it wrong. Thanks for this great coverage of the Rugby Championship. Waiting every week for your videos to come out to see what I missed, so I can sound smart next to the fire when we discuss rugby!

I agree new coaching staff will take transition but most of the players worked with Razer. The Springboks is also going through a transition. Playing more with the ball going wide is something they still learning to perfect. I would like you to hopefully do a video on the different ways the top teams attach, i.e the Irish short pass game and so on and so on. Compare it and rate the best attaching team.
Always love the analysis
Yep I call that defense, The Great Wall of South Africa..💪
Best defensive system
Scott Barret @5:18 pretty much sums the All Blacks up right now...
A) great analysis of the Boks new D and really a great evolution. Kinda a bend dont break then break the opposition.
B) youre so right about Vaa'i. That was close to one of the best RUGBY performances ive seen in years. Very Tagdh Beirne like in the all roundness.
Thanks, great analysis!
You could dominate NZ in every facet of the game back in 2014/15 - and somehow they still beat you every time. Now the Boks are doing that - just brilliant!
Agree with you aboit Vai. His timing and knowledge of the game is great!
I love these analyses!
That final lineout steal was everything 🔥🔥
The feed into the add with Frans was really good 🤣
Just to add, this is the first time New Zealand has lost 4 in a row since 1949, when they lost 6 in a row against the Boks (between 1937-1949). We have also beaten them 3 times in a row a few times. Our greatest rival, we respect them and love them. But we also revel in these small moments we can get them back a bit.
SA have only had to play NZ once in NZ over their last 10 meetings. Definitely helps their cause.
@@MikeBasile sure, very gracious but sure.
@christoduplessis8177 not sure what you mean by gracious? I'm just pointing out one of those weird scheduling anomalies with Covid/RWC/not playing home and away means that SA has only played once in NZ in the last 5 years.
@@MikeBasile well the ABs have play a lot less at home since 2019 against the Boks that is true.
Kiwis lost four in a row during the 1998 Tri-Nations vs Aus and SA
Eben was really triggered by that bounce 🤣
Brilliant analysis, in particular the explanation of why the Boks were contesting fewer breakdowns.
The way you slot in squarespace everytime kills me😂 unexpected and weird but very good 😂😂
I love how Ruan Nortje DROPPED the ball into touch!!! He can now say he dropped the boks to victory, he is in a class with Joel Stranksy...
Well done South Africa. Another tough win. Props to Squidge for the analysis
The Siya Kolisi express seems to be unstoppable....
Antoine du Pont is
Respect needs to used when introducing Tony Brown.
Great analysis as always 👍
Yo is it possible for you to shorten the length of those pop up texts that come up often, i could almost read the first 3 words🙏🏽
You can always pause and read …
Play his vids on 75% speed - it helps if you can't catch everything at full speed believe me🤣
You think this is fast? Squidge has been going easy on us lately.
Squidge hitching his wagon onto the springbok train to the top of the hill…
It’s a pleasure buddy.
Amazing. Thank you
Great as always!
fasten your seatbelts lads!
idk if u noticed. but watching from the stands. hendrikse was immense. just his work rate and how quick he got the ball out, in my opinion. huge factor in winning at the end
Bloody well done Squidge! Daar vat hy!
Dankie Squidgy!!
