I thought he sounded somewhat like a tenor and I enjoyed his lyrical approach to the music. I don't particularly like the Bayreuth bark that many Wagnerian singers deploy.
I feel that the vocalisation of Wotan was chosen deliberately. He's not the Wotan of Viking times, but a petit bourgeois under the thumb of his wife Fricka, who has a very xtian approach in regards to the behaviour of the Gods and humans.
Although I wish Brunhilde was more emotional and freewheeling. I enjoyed her singing. Also, the director's approach was more restrained than part 1 Act One in your admirable series, therefore I enjoyed the overall production more. Thanks for the post. You are quite the operatic archivist 🙌🏾
I guess it was about time Okka von der Damarau discovered she was some sort of soprano instead of trying to be a contralto… The wobble is there too so she’s perfect for a Brünnhilde of today…🤦🏻♂️
🎹 A bizarre and dreary production. No fire, no passion and a woefully inept Wotan.
Sadly, a lifeless affair!
WOW. I never knew Wotan could be sung by a tenor....
😂🤣🤦🏻♂️
What are you hearing? he's a bass-baritone as is required of the singer.
@@l.j.goldstein8143 He's a weak bass-baritone. He couldn't be Wotan!

Fabulous Fricka 😃👍
This production is very compelling, I've only seen Act 2, though. It's rare for me to find a Wagner production that I like these days....

I mean she completely cracked her high Cs in the beginning of act 2 here.
This Wotan should sing Loge...
This Wotan should only sing in his bathtub.
Lmao. Two nights after this performance he sang Beppe in Pagliacci. I would actually believe this statement if someone told me haha.
This Wotan should sing Papageno, or Eisenstein.
Musetta and Elvino as Brünnhilde and Wotan
Woeful in all respects - i.e., a contemporary performance of ‘Walküre’.
Die Walkure or Downton Abbey?

Der Siegmund Stimme ist sehr schon

One of the worst Brunnhildes i´ve ever heard 💀💀💀
Нет, до Варнай ей далеко.
Strange casting of Wotan and Brünnhilde. Can't say I like such a bright sounding Wotan and der Damerau is out of her depth and often sings out of tune
