Netgear Arlo Pro is one of the few security camera systems that is completely wireless. It’s a bit expensive compared to ordinary security systems, but Arlo Pro has more features since it’s "smart" and completely wireless. The free basic plan supports up to 5 cameras and has 7 days of free cloud storage. The Premier plan is $100/year, supports up to 10 cameras and has 30 days of free cloud storage. Included in the box are: the base station, base station power adapter, Ethernet cable, Arlo Pro cameras with rechargeable batteries, power adapter/cable to recharge the batteries, and magnetic wall mounts with mounting screws. The setup was very smooth. The guide was easy to follow. It doesn’t take long at all and consists of downloading the free Arlo app (iOS, Android, and Amazon), creating your free Arlo account, connecting the base station to your router, then syncing and mounting the cameras. Last week Arlo announced the Arlo Pro 2 which is the newest version of Arlo Pro and even though it is slightly better in a couple of ways, many of the new features depend on the Arlo Pro 2 camera being plugged into power and indoors. That’s why I still recommend getting the original Arlo Pro system because it is cheaper and the Arlo Pro 2 camera is compatible with it. Arlo Pro cameras are indoor/outdoor. They have a 300-ft line of sight range from the base station and are IP65-certified weatherproof so they should be fine in the snow, rain, or heat. Cameras connect to the mounts via the built-in magnets which allows you to easily adjust the camera angle and quickly remove the cameras when you need to recharge. Arlo says a battery can last 4-6 months but it really just depends on the camera settings and how much it is recording and detecting motion or sound. Mine have been installed for about 7 weeks, and they’re all right below 60% so if they continue like this they should last around 4 months total on a full charge. The way Arlo Pro works is it’s not designed to be constantly recording and saving video. Instead, Arlo Pro is meant to record short video clips only upon motion detection or sound detection. Even though it’s not constantly saving video, the cameras are constantly active and you are able to live stream any camera at any time from your smartphone or device of choice as long as your device is connected to the internet. That’s another reason I went with Arlo Pro because all the cameras can be managed and viewed via the free app wherever I am. I love that the app can be configured to log in automatically with Touch ID on my iPhone. On the Devices tab you can see all your different cameras and you can view a live feed by tapping the play button. Under the cameras there’s a button to trigger the base station alarm which is a super loud 100 decibel siren. The Library tab gives you a daily list to view any recorded clips that are stored in the cloud on your account. You can tap on any video clip to view it and on the free basic plan, you can download and save it any time within 7 days of the clip being recorded. It has 4 main modes: Armed, Disarmed, Schedule, and Geofencing. You can customize the settings however you’d like. In the Armed mode you can set the rules for each of your cameras. You can set each camera to record upon motion, sound or both or neither. You can tell it what to do when it detects motion or sound, you can configure it to turn the siren on or not upon detection, and you can set your notification settings so it will instantly notify you if motion is detected on one of your cameras. The Schedule mode lets you set a custom schedule of days and times that will automatically arm and disarm your system. Geofencing mode will automatically arm and disarm your system whenever your smartphone is within a certain radius of your base station. The camera quality is 720p standard HD resolution, and that’s where the new Arlo Pro 2 cameras have the biggest advantage because those are full HD 1080p. The cameras have a wide 130-degree viewing angle so they are able to capture a lot inside the frame. They have 2-way audio with a microphone and speaker. You can choose to enable night vision which is pretty decent quality. Grant access lets you give access to your spouse or whoever you choose so they can download and install the Arlo app and view all your cameras. After using this for over a month I think the #ArloPro system is the best wireless #SecurityCamera system for people who want something that’s easy to set up and use, and something that is completely wireless.

Free 7 days recording is not free after 3 months!
@@Kubifun from what I understand it means you can watch 7 days of footage. So if you set up your security system on a Monday you have until the following Monday then everything gets erased and starts over. I hope that makes sense lol I had the same question! My friend has the Arlo camera's and explained it to me.
I have condo that I only use during winter, if power loss does Arlo reconnect automatically?
Thank you for this video I'm going to grab these cameras. I've got nightmare neighbors who bully everything ariundthem n think they're royalty and act that way it's really bad. Stay safe and God bless XoJaynaoX
Thanks. Good job. Thorough. Informative. I used a couple of points in your video to check and "tweak" the set-up I've been running for a year now. FYI - my battery experience matches yours.
Thanks for an honest review on the Arlo Pro. This is one of the systems that I have been looking at.I trust someone who is actually using a product over a salesperson.
Thanks for watching
Great video , and helpful. Thank you
This is a great review/presentation, Andy. I was undecided about which camera system to buy after researching so many. But your video convinced me to go with the Arlo Pro. (I even bought a couple and returned them!)
Thanks for watching and glad I could help!
How are you liking the Arlo security system so far? I've been on the fence about what camera to get but after seeing this video I'm buying the Arlo Pro. My fiance of 6 years broke up with me so it's just me and my daughter living in our house. We live in the woods so I want to have a security system in place. I also need to get some flood lights.
Great review Andy. I'm looking to buy a wireless system and your review has certainly helped a lot. Thank you.
Andy I do not have enough adjectives to describe how awesome you are I enjoyed every second of your video you are going to be so successful please start riding your Amazon book immediately you are depriving all of us of your knowledge so #grateful from Western North Carolina
That was very good. Thank you.
Great review Andy. You covered everything that I was concerned about. I have been looking for a wireless system for over a year. Arlo was on my radar, but I didn't purchase. Today, quite by accident, I saw the Arlo Pro including 3 cameras was on a very good price at HSN. I never shop there, but am opening an account to purchase this system based on the information you've provided. Thanks for an excellent review!
Thanks for watching, Elizabeth! Hope you enjoy your new Arlo system.
Excellent review! This taught me a ton.
Nice vid and review Andy!
thanks!
Great Review and video
question: Do you know if they found a fix for the problem using them inside pointing outside through a window. The glare from the glass does not let the motion detection work and nightime won't work at all because of the glass.
best review I've seen yet
Great review thanks I need a true wireless system thanks for helping me make up my mind
Thanks! Amazon link: geni.us/ArloPro2
Awesome review will definitely be looking into these this holiday. Looks like Costco and I’m sure a few other retailers will have the pack on sale for $400 this Black Friday which seems like a solid deal.
Yeah be on the lookout for deals during the holidays. It's a great security system!
I've had my two-camera wireless system outside for three years and they work quite well. Unfortunately, I do have a good amount of vehicle traffic within view of one camera so I do have to recharge it about once every couple of months. The other one's battery doesn't need charging for maybe 4 months or more - so, not bad. I'm looking to buy a three or four Arlo camera system to monitor my 90 year old mother who still lives by herself for the most part.
firearms and good security is a must these days
Amen to that!
Im here because of package stealers..
Especially fire arms good advice buy more guns ammo .
It's actually safer than it's ever been. I'm not saying I disagree with security and guns, as I keep myself armed, just saying, unless you're in some Brazilian favella, or a city controlled by a Mexican cartel, you're safer than the media will tell you.
Can the Arlo Security Light be added tho the Arlo Pro package?
Excellent video! Thanks
Thanks for watching
Andy thanks for taking the time to explain the camera; I just bought one this week (discounted) will they still provide the 7 day free ICloud.... the newer model Ultra HD; 1st year free / $14.95 per month after...
Andy, after 2 years would you still go with Arlo Pro, or does a different brand/model currently offer better price/value for a DYI wireless setup?
Can you mount it inside a window to look out a window through the glass?
Andy such a helpful video, thank you. Is it possible to use regular batteries if I don't want to be without my camera while it is recharging?
You can purchase an extra battery and just keep it fully charged so you can quickly replace any dead battery - rinse & repeat
Great review!!! THANKS!!
Thanks for watching, Victor
I see this useful for all indoor stuff, but when it comes to outside cameras, I preferred them to be wired, so I can have constant recording.
Andy, good review. Question: how many times have you recharged to date, and have you experienced any diminished performance following a recharge. Some Arlo owners have stated significant reductions in battery life, i.e., initial charge 4 months, subsequent charges 2 months, then one month, then two weeks, then battery required replacement, etc. Hopefully this is not common given the popularity of Arlo.
Cool, looks a lot like the Somfy One+
Great review Andy, just in time. I was actually thinking of adding security cameras and I'll definitely look into them. Happy holidays to you/yours my friend!
Thanks Daniel! I don't think you'll be disappointed if you get the Arlo Pro.
This is the most garbage system. I own the 5 camera set and if you go on their twitter handle you will notice that yesterday they had a massive outage at Netgear that lasted about 12 hours. NO ONE with an Arlo smarthome system or camera system could log in or do anything with their cameras. Their app is horrendous and the glitches are numerous with their system. While it was great to finally have a good wireless system, seeing the kind of nonsense I have suffered through I cannot recommend this item. Just providing my two cents as I have already spent my money on it and want to warn whoever is about to purchase this crap system.
so you say pros and cons of both version but one has to be selected, At the end of the day which one would you buy if given both options?
I returned the arlo pro 2. First set I got, cameras kept disconnecting from the base, even though wifi signal was strong. Got it exchanged. Second pair, you could not hear nothing out of the camera speakers. It sounded like you were whispering. After checking online, it seems like arlo has always had an issue with the speaker and 2 way communication all together.
I have a question about the basic subscription plan. So if you stay on the basic, does that mean you only get 7 Days of recording and then you can go in and erase the storage so it can keep recording or do you have to pay for the other plans in order to keep recording? Hope that made sense
Great info
Thanks
Thanks for watching
Excellent Video!
Thanks!
does the camera have a setting when in n motion recording not see a telephone line moving so parts of picture won't trigger the motion activation
Can the base system connect to your router over wifi, or does it have to be wired?
Just saw your video, I’m a fan now
Thanks for watching
can i use mobile broadband internet to connect the base station??
It is now 2020 do you still have your arlo pro or have you switched?
It seems like a good system price wise
good vid
Is or can this be wireless from base station to router?
I forget base station name, how to fix this problem ,during installation asking the base station name
I have the arlo pro 2 and they are completely wireless and have rechargeable batteries 🔋 and can be used inside or outside
Does this have night vision and if so how clear?
I always love your videos
Thanks!
The only thing I don’t like about these battery operated cameras is the fact that you have to change the batteries every couple of months. I had to return my Arlo and I ended up getting the Armorax camera, the outdoor one, it’s not battery operated, but it has a better picture quality and does everything I need from a security camera.
What to do? Some Water got in one outdoor Camara and not charging properly any advice ?
I just purchased a 3 camera Arlo wireless system for mainly outdoor security. My biggest concern is battery performance, especially in winter when temps are so low, batteries may not provide the needed voltage. Have not found any data yet while searching the internet.
Any advise or comments would be appreciated for outdoor use in cold temps. Unit I purchased using 4 x CR123 batteries. I have not opened box yet based on my concerns.
Mr. P
The systems I see are always linked to smart phones. Can you also hook this up to your Lap Top computer?
Great , thanks alot.
Thanks for watching
I saw that Armorax Home Security has a deal going on where you buy 1 camera and you get 1 free. That’s pretty awesome considering their video plans are cheaper compared to other companies.
Can it use own NAS device recording instead of cloud?
2 questions: is the 7 day save on the basic subscription a rolling 7 days - it starts over every 7 days - or just 7 days from startup and at what distance is the camera activated. thanks
Jessie Teehee Real Estate Team renews every 7 days!
You may not know the answer to this question but thought I'd ask anyway.
Do these cameras pickup a glare from windows on an enclosed porch?
Did you mean "arm/activate" at 7:28 ... because you said "disarm" twice...
Great info and review Andy. I looking to buy a camera security system but I'm new to them and have a question. When the camera sends you an "Alert", can (or does) it send it to you via text message? I saw that you mentioned that it can send you an email but I don't check my phone every time I get an email but, like most people, I almost always check a text message right away. If the message is sent somehow thru the app, does that require the app to be running on your phone 24/7? Thank you!
It only sends notifications through email and phone notifications. For example on an iPhone all you have to do is allow the app to send you notifications and it will instantly notify you through a pop-up notification on your phone (this does not require the app to be running)
Andy Slye OK great. Thank you for the info.
Hi, does it have a delay in recording? Some cameras I've researched only record in 10 sec increments with a 10s delay between each recording.
apparently there is a small delay, 3 or so seconds. Arlo can record 2 minutes at each clip or until motion stops
I love the idea, but two flaws with the unit being used outside. As opposed to wiring. These units need to have reasonable access, meaning they may be within reach of tampering. A guy with a hoodie and a stick could disable the system easily. Meanwhile wire are usually located in the house eaves, meaning they are often only accessed by a ladder. I love the concept but anytime something is not nailed down it may not stay there long. BTW great review.
Is Arlo pro base station only compatible with Cat5? I tried using Cat6 with no luck. I searched everywhere and Arlo says to use provided Ethernet cable but does NOT identify the type of Ethernet cable. I’m not using the provided Cat5 cable and it works, just the Cat6 does NOT work. I was hoping to improve the time it takes the Arlo app to connect to live cameras. Any help would be kind of you
Can you keep the camera plug in at all time, if so would it still require the better
I believe you can choose to just use the power cord if you want to have it plugged in and it will power the camera.
Hi can this old base station can coonect new vmc5040 ULTRA 2 camera? i can not find any answer ? I have that new camera as gift but i need to get base station and i can get this Pro base station with 1 cam set just for 120 euros..
Hey i just got mine for only $199
On black friday for a
3 camera system
best price you can get.
How's it been working for you? Does it have clear night vision?
Nice review!
I happen to feel that a wired system is much more beneficial.
First, I don't want to have to drag a ladder out to reach and remove my security camera (I assume they'd be mounted high up to avoid theft) once every four months, charge the batteries, then climb BACK up to reinstall the cameras.
Also, by being wired, the camera can be high def and on full time, without concern over shortening the battery life! Also, why would anyone want to disable their security camera, unless it's because they're worried about using up the battery!
Only advantage of wireless is on the day you install. The entire time you own that camera after that, you'll need to be concerned about battery life and minimizing camera usage!
Took me about an hour to mount a wired security camera in my home, and now, as long as the camera doesn't break, I don't have to worry about charging it, or turning it on/off to save battery life.
I guess everyone's needs are different, just trying to give some food for thought.
Thanks for the great review!
I was thinking the same too... I plan to put one high above with a AC plug aside, I just found out they do have one adapter (sold separately) that fixes this issue so the cam is perma connected, the part is: Item No. VMA4900
What happens to the recording or the ability to record if your WiFi or internet service (or electricity) goes down. As mine occasionally does. Will it still work?
get a UPS battery system that links to your router/modem and base station.
I have had this Arlo 4 camera system over a year now! For $ 800 WHY do they not include a battery charger? So if you have a extra battery you don't have to pull your camera down to charge your battery. Also if you have high foot traffic and pets you might get 2 weeks out of the battery! Also IMPORTANT if your internet goes out you lose all camera feeds until you reset the base unit power of then on again! Also you can not filter out zones if you have trees or bushes blowing in the wind a battery killer! Feel free to ask me other questions! I feel this system is for some on who cant really drill holes in there home or apt. for any reason or you have the need to really move a camera around room to room.
I'd be concerned about that they are magnetically attached as they are easily stolen, even out of reach someone can easily get a ladder swing by and steal it. I suppose you could mount it as discussed but then battery replacement would be trickier. Still great review thanks for posting
Suberb review! Can you use this camera as baby monitor? can you watch live feed and is there any delay? Thank you
This is not advertised as a baby monitor, and I have no experience using it as a baby monitor so I cannot recommend it for use in that way. This does allow you to view a live feed from the smartphone app, and the live feed has about a 1-2 second delay.
Perfect, great review! Thank you!
If the battery is dead.... can I still use that plugged in?
Andy I cannot seem to activate the alarm 🚨 part humm
What is the difference between Arlo Pro and Arlo pro4
Is there a record option while you're watching the live feed?
yes
no RF danger?
Hi Andy - two years on are you still happy with the Arlo camera or is there something better that you would recommend
Yep I still use it and it's been great so far
Having problem using my (new) iPhone X and this camera systems software. The audio does not work (talking through to camera)(yes, I allowed the software to use my microphone). At first I thought it was a problem with the Arlo. But the audio(microphone) does work fine, on my iPhone 6S, iPad, and Mac Computer. Therefore, it appears to me, they need to upgrade Arlo's software to work with the iPhone X. The video works fine on this phone, but not the audio. And if I were to return a product for NOT working, it definitely would NOT be the iPhone X! Netgear, FIX YOUR SOFTWARE!!!
What about the temperature operating range? does it work in cold temps below the 32 degree range. also, how far from your router does the base need to be?
I've had temperatures near 0 degrees Fahrenheit and they still work
@@aslye What about the distance of your router to the hub? I heard 20'.
can you live stream video as during an event
Have you had any issues with the night vision ?
I️ just bought my first house as well decided to invest in a home security system . It works great during the day but at night the night vision is blurry/foggy all 4 cameras have the same issue.
No issues so far. See 8:51 of the video to see an example of the night vision indoors. It's pretty decent.
Andy Slye just saw that ! i probably have a defective model I’m going to exchange for a different one i hope that works.
If it disarms when it detects your phone leaving your property and disarms again when you return to your property what good is it?
No, it arms when you leave and disarms when you return. But that's only if you set it to Geofencing mode. You can have it armed at all times if you want or on a set schedule.
Do you need a subscription for them to work
No it has a free plan that works for most people.
I thank you for posting this because there's things going on around my house and I have one but my mom will get more later because it cost over 100$ but yeah I really thank you so much for this vid #like #subscribe
Thanks, check it out on Amazon: geni.us/ArloPro
Bought this exact 3 camera kit at Costco.com for $375 on black Friday
Colin1337 do you still have the system, how is it?
How long batteries last or how often u charge?
They don't tell you that and it's an obvious question we consumers have. So far it's a hit or miss. Can last 4 days or last 5 months. Who knows.
Can you download/save the video from the cloud?
Yes
Will you do a video on arlo 4K
As long as my current Arlo system works then I won't be upgrading to a newer system any time soon.
You did a great review! Love your professional review and video. I have sent an e-mail to you for reviewing our product.
i got my mom a Ring Spotlight wireless camera (spotlight not important) and she wants the Ring App to automatically open to a live view whenever there is motion. I have setup an LG G PAd 4 Android tablet for her to use as a monitor in the kitchen. The thing is, whenever it detects motion, it just gives the notification, and she still has to click it to see. Is there a way to make it automatically open? If this Arlo wireless system has this function, I will get this instead of the Ring spotlight. Please let me know, anyone. Thanks in advance (she is driving me nuts lol)
I was told it would let you talk to anyone closest to the camera if so how
You can speak through any camera using the mobile app
Does the ARLO PRO require the base station to be physically connected to your WIFI device with cable or is that just for the setup?
The base needs to be connected to modem via ethernet cable.
Does the system have any internal recording feature other than cloud?
The smartphone app shows you all the saved recordings for up to 7 days in which you can choose to save any of those videos to your smartphone before they expire.
It has a local storage option for you to plug a usd drive to save to.
Does it need wifi
i FIRST CONNECTED MY ARLO CAMERAS TO AN ANDROID PHONE. I HAVE NOW GONE TO IPHONE. HOW DO I GET MY ARLO CAMERAS TO SYNC WITH MY NEW PHONE
why are you yelling?
Great review but the very insane price.
does this require a subscription?
Do you not have sound or close captions or just slow?
Nice 👍🏻
Thanks for watching
The base DOES require wired power
I could listen to you talk all day. Nice review
Thanks Paul
Can't get my outdoor camera off night vision , images almost totally washed out.
A toggle to turn off night vision should be in the camera settings
How to work dear camber
I've watched quite a few vids on the arlo I'm really confused what is this whatever people are talking about pay $10 a month
www.arlo.com/en-us/products/subscription-plans.aspx
Seeing how much these high end systems cost, I wouldn't be surprised if people broke in just to steal the security camera system!
I had a service interruption on March 8 2018 I contacted the Arlo support listed on the booklet and was charged $199.00 to have my service turned. Today March 15, 2018 my services is interrupted again. I have 2 cameras a phone and computer nothing is working. I need help.
