- Jakob Dylan and Bruce Springsteen team up to perform quite possibly the best Wallflowers song of all time.
You can really hear Bob Dylan's influence and genetics in his son Jakob’s performance.
This performance was filmed at the MTV Video Music Awards in 1998.

This song stood the test of time. Still one of the best of the 90s.
That's because his dad wrote it 😅
That's not true. The Wallflowers went on to be a great rock band who have changed their sound and evolved with time. The highlights are his lyrics and better on his solo stuff @@roaring_angels
@@Thfcspurs88 I was just playing but if he can write that well of lyrics I’ll check it out
This single received the most prestigious Grammy award as the "Best Rock Song" of 1997, and then was included in the list
of "100 great Rock Songs" by Rolling Stone magazine.
It's been 25 years, and it still sounds awesome.
The author of the song and performer Jacob Dylan. 😊
Thanks for the information about this amazing song!!
My old man was a huge Wallflowers and Springsteen fan. He would have loved this. Brought a tear to my eye. You can tell The Boss loves this tune. What a performance.
Thank you for sharing your heart felt message!!
Right? Haha it looked like Bruce liked singing it. Great performance
@@jnkn3497 You are right, it is about time that they get together to perform another duet!
Sounds like those boys GeT round

They sound so much alike. Bruce and Jakob has kinda same vocals. Love it! ❤️❤️❤️
Exactly
. Have always loved this tune and the record Wallflowers sound amazingly great with Bruce sittin' in. Smokin' version. Never saw this before tonight. Wow!
Simply put, a perfect performance all round by these two artists and the band
What I love about Springstreen is his ability to play and love ALL music. His copies of 60's and 70's one hit wonders is so fine.
Correct, and I'll tell you this. Do grab a copy of the Bruce unreleased set (Box or LP's) of "All Those Years". It's all so good. And a must listen is: "I sold my heart to the junkman".
“ I sold my heart to the Junkman “ What a line

I love the wallflowers and also wonderful to see Bruce performing with them too! Such a joyful few minutes watching this:) ✨💝💝💝✨
Hi Louise, Glad you enjoyed it!
Wow! Wow! Wow! Wish Bruce and Jacob would do more collaborations 💕

Simply bloody magic.
Wow my 1 time I see mister dylan s son . Amasing 👍👍👍👍👍👍
I am glad that I can bring you a video from his talented lad. I was fortunate enough to see Jacob Dylan in concert at Amoeba records in Hollywood, a few years ago. He even signed my CD.
Check-out more of his music with the Wallflowers on UA-cam. I love his song called "6th Avenue Heartache" It is very Bob "Dylanesque".
You will be pleasantly surprised.
Great performance. Their voices blend beautifully.
This is sort of a Springsteen song. It's well within his vocal range (took the high harmonies in the chorus and had a really nice run on the third verse), plus it ruminates on the things Springsteen does write about. Besides all that, the other guy's name is Dylan...
Yes ! 🎵
@@Azabaxe80 well said ! ❤️
Well said, especially the lyric about turning the engine...reminds me of Bruce's lyrics in One Step Up, off of Tunnel of Love in 1987.
@@Azabaxe80 - He’s Jakob Dylan and it ‘s his song. It doesn’t sound anything like a Springsteen song. Tom Petty was his mentor and influenced much of his music. Notice he sings it, not screams it.
Just love this duet!
Me too!!🤗
“Bob Dylan’s Son”? He’s friggin’ “Jakob Dylan” and his band is “The Wallflowers.”
The man and the band stand on their own.
Very true, but not everyone is as well versed in music as you.
Jakob with a “K”
@@jimmy5634 there's a real irony there isn't there?
Yes
I was thinking the same thing. Didn’t comment it because I knew someone else already did somewhere, and here it is.
I'm really enjoying watching Bruce play with the wallflowers. He is so very intent on getting it right.
Perfectionist that he is. I want to see more collaborations now.
Springsteen /e street fan forever!
Not to minimize my admiration for the Wallflowers, mind you!
Love this. I’m in my 60s and grew up with Bob and Bruce and I was so jealous that my mum and dad in their 80s went for a walk with Bruce when he toured Australia last time. Their best friends are professors of cancer research who they walk with every morning and Bruce knew them somehow. Mum was so excited
Green with envy. Did your parents realize the stature of the rock and roll "boss" at the time, or did you have to inform them they had an opportunity so many of us Springsteen devotees would consider a lifetime achievement?
I'm 60 as well and my parents immigrated from Germany in 1955.
They would not have had a clue even tho they lived here in the states.
@@pegmarinello3188 Yes they actually knew because they told me the night before that. “We have been sworn to secrecy and we must be down at t river by 6am” and to tell you no one as it was just my mum and dad’s two friends and Bruce and one friend, so they didn’t want any problems because no bodyguards and heaps of other hangers on. Only 6 of them. Dad started pub bands in Western Australia in the early 1960s and had one of the best vinyl record collections by the 1970s. He had pubs from early 60s to 1982 and had band’s like AC/DC play there. Dad was Australian Iron Man in 1956 and so did all his own bouncing. Bon Scott from AC/DC was from here and one night Phil Rudd the drummer gave dad a lot of lip and dad beat the shit out of him so there wasn’t a second set because dad tossed him out haha. They did play there again because it was the best venue back then. It was in Subiaco where the stadium was so after performances everyone would go there. In 1972 dad had The Sones, Led Zep and all people like that go for drinks after gigs because it had a reputation. I use to vacuum the floor before school and I’d find around $20 along the bar each morning. That was a lot of money for a 10 year old around 1970. I was a tycoon at 10 raking in about $80 a week. I had trophy girlfriends at 12 haha because I had $500 in the bank. I had a great childhood. I worked hard each morning and made $2 a day before school but it was the money people dropped along the bar that was the bonus. Nice talking too you

I grew up on Dylan and Springsteens music. Listening to them was like going to church in my house growing up. I also loved the wallflowers in the 90's but never knew the lead singer is his son until way later.
I wish I could go back to the late 90s, great time for rock and alternative music. Signed, a millennial.
Always liked this song. Perfectly suited for Bruce’s voice too.
What a music moment- both Jakob and Bruce realize it at the end with their smiles.
Sounds exactly like Independance Day by Springsteen
I love this song. I don't care who influenced what. Jakob has written an excellent song and it stands up all by itself. There's a part between verses that I don't know what it's called in musical terms. I call it the pivot. This is a wonderful song. I believe it's about friendship.
Bridge maybe?
Turn around.
Middle 8
It's about his girlfriend who died in a car accident. In the song, its like he's in shock and can't believe she is actually gone.
Wow . Been following the Wallflowers for 15 years. At 65 I am Dylan fan. Seen him a few times on Australian tours. Imagine my surprise to see his son following in his fòortďreps.
Uncanny . And underrated band .love them
Thank you so much for sharing this!!
Julie, at 64 I'm right with you! I've been loving the Wallflowers and Jakob Dylan's songwriting about 15 years... his lyrics are always smart, thoughtful and sometimes quite funny! A long-time Bob Dylan fan, as well!

Wow-this is a show of idols idolizing idols (although they, like us, are still just humans in the end, but you know what I mean: in the entertainment world of rock...) So cool how both their obvious idols show up (Bruce's is B.D., Jakob's is B.S.). I love all 3. Great music, too, which is still the main thing! More than Bob (cf. above), I hear Bruce's influence in Jakob's stuff.

This totally awesome, Jakob Dylan and Bruce Springsteen, great job, guys
please let Jakob be Jakob, he has his own story and we have enough to love for him being himself. Nice that he played with "the uncle he never had" ;)
I had the fortune of meeting Jacob at an in store performance and autograph signing at Amoeba Music in Hollywood. He is a great artist and musician!!
@@DJGerryfromStarlightMusic not any doubt about it: let him be himself... he is a kind of his own :)
yet still we love his father but... that is a different matter :]
Who's the Uncle???
@@vinniemutschler4735 hi there! Well you should know that Dylan (Bob) wrote the song Lenny Bruce and in that there is the sentence “he was the brother that you never had”.
Springsteen (Bruce) paraphrased that sentence when presented Bob at his induction to RnR hall of fame and said “you are the brother that I never had”.
Hence Bruce is somehow Jakob’s uncle :) (that he never had, sticking to the lyrics used by Springsteen himself).
Was just a joke ;)
@@yccmzimmy i thought the statement self explanatory but your reply gives it the remarkable depth intended by Bruce Springsteen when honoring Bob Dylan. Thank you so much for answering with these iconic facts. It brought home what an honor this moment is for all of us to be able to enjoy.

When was this performance? 1999? They sounded great together - their grittiness melded beautifully. Man, I had such a mad crush on Jakob Dylan. I mean.. come on! 🥰
My question as well. I think Jakob sounds more like Bruce than Bob. I was never a huge Springsteen guy, so should I be surprised Bruce was playing the solos? I've watched Echo In The Canyon a few times on netflix. I think Jakob is terrific.

Yes, it would be a great song for The Boss to cover!!
AHH YEA!
So good to see The Boss still working. Why not. If he can. Duran Duran is making a comeback. :) Appeared on the Jimmy Fallon show a few nights ago./. I guess the E-Street Band is no more. A shame....today there are no more legendary bands as there were pre 2000. The industry filled with "opening act bands" no one's heard of. Most music icons/legends have retired or passed away. But who knows...if Springsteen is still working and Duran Duran is back.. Maybe bands like Bon Jovi can return...put aside differences...Sammy Hagasr...though I don't know who would take Eddie's place...
Epic beautiful
handsome boy
Awsome
Nice to see Springsteen take the solo. With Nils and Little Steven handling the major guitar work Bruce has mainly
used the guitar as more of a prop. There was a time when you knew Bruce had lead guitar chops.
I've not been a Wallflowers fan, never will be, but this is a pretty good tune and performance.
