Doug while being a technician seems to have completely changed his idea of medvedeva because she was sweet and he got to know her a little more. He used to just call her and zagitova the “zagmeds” and mostly dismissed them. I love medvedeva the most and I agree that She’s grown wonderfully but I just feel like a part of doug’s reaction is kind of “oh she’s not just some Russian..” anymore..she’s also a nice sweet earnest girl who skates with Brian. The difference in respect and appreciation is huge. I sense almost a bit of disdain towards Russia and preference towards Canada. (Tad of an understatement)
Russian media already posted transcripts from this TSL episode, and people are wondering what kind of agreement Brian made with other federations that makes him feel confident that Evgeniya's flutz would not be getting negative GOEs after he announced in his first interview that she does have flutz and Doug just confirmed that it is still there. It is interesting to see how corrupted judges really are when it comes to Brian Orser and Medvedeva.
In my memory this is going to be the first time when coach acknowledges that his skater has flutz problem, but includes 3 lutzes into programs and expects that technical panel won't notice wrong edge on every one of them. I hope it won't happen and we will see honest protocols this season. Otherwise, skaters with correct edges on Lutz will be in a disadvantage.
Подрыв Устоев That theory doesn't even make sense because Evgenia was getting positive GOEs on the lutz without Brian. So shouldn't it be the same under Brian? Unless there's different rules for Eteri's girls... Also I get that Doug is biased and how annoying that is but these crazy theories in the comments don't make any sense and need to stop. If you're going to criticize (which you have every right to) at least come up with arguments instead of making up crazy theories like Doug does.
"She should lose 8 to 10 pounds" That is so wrong and disgusting on so many levels. Liza doesn't need to lose weight, and even if she did, you have no right to comment on her body.
There is nothing wrong with Elizaveta’s weight or her style. THIS is why there is an eating disorder epidemic in the sport and I’m no lay person. Shame on you! Please get your heads examined, for the good of the children.
@@evanperilstein5308 i thought id also replied that her body aas perfect and clearly with her 3axel nothing needs to change but i must of messed up posting the other comment
I love her style and the way she looks. She looks and skates like a WOMAN; not a child because that’s what she is and I admire her for it. She grins as if she doesn’t care what they think and I applaud her for it because what is being promoted is TOXIC and UNHEALTHY. She’s hot and she knows it, too. Healthy is darn sexy. Funny how they won’t say exactly what happened to Gracie. They talk about how much they “loved” “old Gracie” but apparently, “old Gracie” wasn’t good enough for someone because she starved herself, too.
I liked his tidbits on Medvedeva, etc, but I raised my eyebrows during the comment that Liza's weight is key to better PCS. If the weight was directly affecting her skating, fine, but I doubt losing a few pounds would automatically raise her PCS. I just don't see a strong direct correlation there. Also, I like how singles coaches sometimes talk about pair skating so simplistically. All you need is speed and jumps lol. I'm glad they mentioned speed though, because it's not always as easy to notice that on TV. And I have similar lukewarm feelings as he does about Whitney Houston in skating.
Yeah plenty of people, including knowledgeable skating people, seem to overlook how challenging actual pair skating is and getting two bodies to skate together in a way that is world class. There has been many a pair team that could do a sbs jump but wasn’t more than average on the other elements.
PR and blade take-off is not a Russian thing, Gabby, Kaetlyn, Satoko, all do this. In fact, the only ladies who don't do this are Russian; Tsurskaya, Liza Tuktamysheva, and Sotskova. But I'm surprised you think Alina's spins were slow; she had the fastest spins of the day...
Yes, of course Kostner too. I just associate her with an era where it was uncommon with Mao and Yuna. So I was talking about the new era or popular/top skaters. And there's also Karen Chen
I'm glad you guys didn't let Doug get away with a glowing endorsement of Gabby Daleman, though that comment is more or less symptomatic of his issues as a pundit. Great at explaining some technical aspects of skating, but how reliable is it when - by complete coincidence - Daleman and Osmond come out on top in his estimation? He goes from suggesting Tutberidze's skaters are all doping in February to being silent on that assertion now that one of her former skaters is at his rink, then criticizes the Russians for restricting their diet but perpetuates the idea that slimmer skaters get higher components. Even if he wasn't flat out saying Tuktamysheva needed to lose 8-10 pounds - which, she looks far better than she has in the last two years, landing her first 2A+3T since, what, 2014? - it's continuing to amplify that sort of comment that encourages restrictive behavior from athletes and coaches.
The comments about Tuktamysheva are gross. Why can she not be powerful and “ungraceful”? Wow, I was all about the good commentary being said then that happened.
But they are entitled to their opinion. I personally thought Liza was excellent and love her long program and her interpretation of the music. I was mesmerized by her confidence. It is clearly a subjective sport.
Colette Robichaud You are right, they are entitled to their opinion, but I will also speak out when someone casually says somebody should loose 8-10 pounds like it’s as easy as changing an outfit.
I feel Dave himself as a follower of gymnastics should know better. He called out Mary Lee Tracy yet he’s advocating similar behavior that asks for someone to starve themselves.
lol, did not know she actually forgot a part of the lp. I don't love the program, but considering that and the fact that it's so early, I'm interested to see how this program develops. I hope people will be patient in seeing improvements(a few of which are already visible); I'm already reading ludicrous comments like people expected problems to be completely fixed in a matter of 2-ish months. And well, you really don't get much ice time either way in korea. The conditions are obviously better than when yuna started out, but the rinks are few, crowded, and still kind of suck. It's incredible what yuna has done for skating in korea(both influence-wise and financially), so I can't stand it when someone says she hates skating or is uninvolved post-competition.
1:13 Evgenia Medvedeva - I love how happy she looks doing the short, let the girl enjoy her life. Agree that Libertango isn’t as interesting a music choice. And do we think she’ll still get the Russian bump in her scores or know if the federation is still pushing for her? 15:18 Alina Zagitova - I think there’s too many music changes in the short, even worse than Alena K’s music. I was happy she didn’t use any singing in Carmen, it was better than the short. 20:56 Elena Radionova - I was surprised that her and Elizaveta were here, didn’t expect either of them to continue. But she loves to skate so more power to her. 22:35 Elizaveta Tuktemysheva - since her lutz is so good why can’t she do a triple lutz triple toe? She’s gonna get killed in the short with a toe toe combination. I agree her skating has a masculine aesthetic. 27:36 Polina Tsurskaya - her technique is amazing! She gets so much height and doesn’t start rotating till the top of the jump. Amazing but I hear she’s unwell? 29:30 Maria Sotskova - I loved her short! The complete opposite of boring! And it felt genuine to me. Jonathan please don’t always apologize for liking her, she’s a very good skater. But I was really disappointed that she’s repeating her long. 32:22 Tarasova/Morozov - I think the long program music is a big mistake. The song is so repetitive it’s impossible to listen to for 4 minutes and stay interested. 37:20 Brief mention of Sinitsina/Katsolopov, Stolbova/Buikin, Popova/Mozgov 38:30 Mikhael Kolyada - he definitely has world champion potential but Doug is right that he can’t keep popping jumps. 40:15 Dimitri Aliev - I’m with Jonathan, he is very elegant and I’m a fan. 44:20 Javier Fernandez - “the Tiger Woods of Spain” lol what? 49:37 Andrew Torgashev - I was also surprised that he was so happy after his program since he started kinda shaky but I get what Doug is saying about rotating everything being a big deal. 55:33 US ladies on the junior Grand Prix, coach hopping, and over-involved parents. 59:40 Ye Lim Kim - I didn’t think she was anything special. 1:03:48 Alexandra Trusova - with great talent comes great responsibility and great pressure. From what we know of the training environment with Eteri, like with what Evgenia says to Brian Orser, we believe that Trusova is being exploited more than respected by her coaches and that’s what makes her and the others hard to watch. 1:10:45 Nguyen/Kolesnik - they looked great in the short, I thought she had a great line. Didn’t like the music mashup for the long. 1:14:50 Stellato/Bartholomay - disasterous short: slow, hate the music, it showed off Deanna bec Nate looked like he didn’t want to be there. 1:21:10 Brief discussion about Jason Brown, Gabrielle Daleman
9:47 So Doug had been told by Orser that after short program at Olympics Etery told to Zhenya "You are done, go have babies"?! It can't be anything but utter bullshit no mater what you think of Etery as a person. First Zhenya got world record score for that program, it was beaten by Alina 10 minutes later, but still was excellent result. Second, whoever watched ladies competition could not have noticed how close and supportive Etery was to Zhenya during entire event. I wonder why would you spread such ridiculous nonsense. Don't you give a damn about your reputation?
When there's situations like this, people start to say a lot of things, even the ones involved in the problem say things that probably they don't mean it's the moment... & There's a lot of misunderstanding between them, they need to talk face to face to fix their problems etc...
Eteri made such a drama when she left her, that is almost impossible to believe it, why did she want her back? to give her advice pregnancy ??? !!!! I mean really !!!
The quote from the book "The Young Guards" by Fadeev :"There's nothing worse than a young guy gossiping". Here I see not guys but men gossiping about ladies. How can Brian know what Eteri and Zhenya talked about? And did he share this with anyone? Too long chain of redirections... Primitive attacks on the strongest coaching team that actually brings so much beauty to the world. The best for me is just to thank them for this.
As far as i heard before this interview with doug that it was someone from the Russian federation that said that sentence not eteri, and since zhenya made it clear to orser she wont speak badly about eteri or any other person there i am still asking myself how odoug could have gotten that from orser?
Also appalled at the armchair diagnostics going on about how you can tell by the skin of athletes who is healthy and who isn't. Thank god that in medical school we're taught to not rely on skin appearances.
So the purpose of this video is to let young Eteri students know, that there are options other then Eteri. And that option is guess who? Brian Orser. I actually had no doubt that it was main reason for David's and Brian's trip and long stay. I am shocked Doug's comment about the reason Orser included 6 lutzes into two programs. We are told that he is counting on the fact that in the past her lutz was never given negative GOEs. Shocking hutzpa.
I want the guest to be aware that it's Evgenia who would have to deal with the romours and stories discussed in this video. Unless Evgenia wanted to be spread out, I sometimes concern why some Americans or Canadians are so talkative. Can't they have imagination? I feel it is very unprofessional that Cricket Club (brian and tracy) is spreading stories how bad Russian environments are. I do not support any negative environment for training, but this girl, Evgenia, may be returning to Russia in the future (to live). It will be HER who would have to deal with the Russian public's reactions due to the conversation told and discussed here. I don't know if Brian or Tracy wanted this guest to have it open. I would be pissed off if my home people spread stories how bad my home country is. Indeed, Evgenia herself does not say anything negative about Russia to the media, but the people who she trusts do! I remember reading article that the writer talked about incident between Mao and Rafael (Mao did not tell him why she can't return back to US), the writer blamed Mao that she is close minded person, but, well you know. She just knew what happens if she speaks up. THIS.
Medvedeva must be grateful, you guys have just created another huge wave of negativity towards her in russian media. Do you ever consider what would be consequences of your gossips for the girl? Do you even care?
Not only Russian media: this TSL interview created heated and even more exaggerated gossips in Japan about Medvedeva and Eteri. Some figure skating fans translated the Russian gossips into Japanese (sometimes via English: Russian to English, then English to Japanese), and posted at their sites. Lots of distortion of the interview/story occurred during the translations because they are amateur translators and more importantly, they didn't do fact check by watching the original TSL interview before they posted their translations. I notified some of these translators of their mistranslations, and some of their posts are now removed.
I’m so glad Jonathan noticed the Durex ad in the ice lol. I rewatched Tuk and she officially out skated the gold and silver medalist. I can see why Evgenia would be nervous but something major must be wrong with Zagitova.
One open secret is that Alina has always suffered pressure more than Evgenia and other Eteri's skaters, her strenght comes from delivering when it matters, but it's definitely not the first time she bombs a program.
Every single female Russian skater fell on at least one of their jumps in the FP. I think maybe it was a test to see how much mental strength each skater has.
I feel like by sharing what Evgenia said (if she did in face say that) in private, they kinda throw her under the bus with the Russian federation and the public that she still has to deal with back home, to promote Canadian approach to figure skating over the Russian one. How unprofessional.
Marina Zueva should be getting a call about Tarasova and Morozov or Lori. Please!!!! Marina has a way of interjecting interesting pairs choreography and she’s the goddess of classical music choreography which they need. Their music choice and choreography is killing them
The quote from the book "The Young Guards" by Fadeev :"There's nothing worse than a young guy gossiping". Here I see not guys but men gossiping about ladies. @@Keepinitreal55 Thank you for the comment. It doesn't matter if it is true or not. I am at shock hearing man discussing such things and in such manner. Once on TV show (Russian channel 1) world famous coaches and figure skaters (Tarasova, Platov, Navka and others) discussed that athletes might be so overstressed that coaches use absolutely unexpected ways to make them ready for the competition. Eg Tarasova poured s bottle of water onto Platov as we was too nervous and they remembered that and all athletes said that all great coaches can find not standard decision. We never know why any words could be said. But being experienced and mature person that man isn't trying to understand why or what could be reasons but just takes pieces if information and they try to interpret it as if Evgeniya is a poor girl who was oppressed, neglected, etc. She could cry after first trainings feeling some relief after relocation, worries, etc. It's normal and words about "best training in her life" are usual politeness and gratitude. But the guys try to interpret it as if she never had good trainings. She always hugged and kissed Eteri for a decade and never looked unhappy. The change in her relation is too sudden. And frankly speaking, she doesn't look happy now - she wants to SHOW that she is happy. Every empathic person can see it. I really wish her good luck.
Hello everyone! I find discussions about Evgenya tears after first training in this connotation to be ridiculous. It's normal to be emotional but relating this to judging previous coaching is not correct. Zhenya always hugged Eteri, laughed and smiled. In all interviews she used to say that she had lots character traits from Eteri, she was her mum on the ice, etc. I find these attacks on Eteri to be absolutely low level behaviour. The further evidence of ETeam's professional strength that some people don't want to respect.
Angelica Suarez Ramirez Like you would know anything. She trained under Eteri for god sakes, who had her skate while injured. She has been through a lot.
Maritza Carrillo oh really? show me the video where Eteri said that🙄 if we are going to believe rumors what about medvedeva asking Eteri to leave zagitova in juniors
Last video you talk about how skinny Medvedeva was with Eteri and how important is to stay healthy and now you say that Tuktamysheva needs to loose weight?!
Jonathan I'm with you loving Dmitri Aliev so much! And a random question: well you let us know when your house hunter episode airs (or has it aired already?)
Sorry but am I the only one who liked Medvedeva's programs more before? she looks happy and very healthy and beautiful but she is capable of more complex choreography. Her programs this year look just like Yu-Na's programs under Orser. Medvedeva can do the more complex transitions and quicker movements and facial expressoin.
They have just started to work together - 2 months only! Give them the time and I am sure we all will see "more complex transitions and quicker movements and facial expressoin." )))
I don’t know how Daniil (Alina’s choreographer) thinks that his choreography & music cuts are good?! And it’s sad because Alina will probably get 9’s in pcs for, like you said Dave, a garbage program. & She’s capable of so much more too, so it’s really frustrating watching her skate to terrible music and programs.
These Dani G packed programs give me a headache. Perhaps they're more technically challenging, but it feels like I'm watching a fish flopping around on the ground. There is no flow whatsoever.
annushka0113 i think it highly depends on the skater. For example i love Kostornaya's programs of his; i feel she is able to make it her own. On the other hand I perceive Zagitova to be more mechanical/exectuion-y/robotic about it. I also loved Alena Kanysheva's super packed free at her last JGP, because I feel it was a good fit for her overall.
Evgenia's short programme was sublime. The 2A - exquisite. The lutz is better in that it's now only on the rake and spin rocker, and not the entire blade. The free still has work needing. I'd love to see Evgenia with 3L 3L combination, I think she could make that stick and make it exquisite. I'm not sure her free music is the right choice for her, I think she could spend a night chilling with Jason Brown listening to music and find something better. I think her friendship with Jason is really helping her transition to a new way of life. I think she'll do brilliant in the next few years. Elizavita - has always been my favourite Russian skater, because she's a woman, like Wagner is a woman, like Costner is a woman. Tuktamysheva is a woman, and probably the only woman to come out of Russia in recent years. She really needs a coach and music to suit her more, and she'd probably benefit from a move to Canada too. Zagitova, free programme is awful. Thank Christ it's not an Olympic season. Zagitova is still just a wee girl, she needs to grow and support. Her lutz is rubbish, and the music edit - OMG, it's just awful.
with Tarasova and Morozov also, didn't hear you mention it, but Maxim Trankov helped them with the LP, but not the SP. Maybe he should do both. Many people didn't like their short. Also, surprisingly, your comments this time are quite in line with those on the Russian side, even people who witnessed it all in person say pretty much the same. Zagitova seems very tense, seems like Eteri is keeping the "tough love" tactics with her, Medvedeva seems to be exploring her talents she had not chance to develop before, and it shows (but these bangs are not her thing), Tuktamysheva is in great shape (people who saw her in person actually say she looks very petite, camera does not do her justice), very confident, but it's visible she is trained by a man like a man :) Tsurskaya seems to have troubles with old injuries, she cried after one of the programs, holding the back. But she looks impressive on the ice. Aliev stands out among the male skaters because he clearly has more natural talent. Don't remember if you mentioned Voronov, but he was quite a surprise, skating that well at 30. As for Trusova, and her sadness, she reminds me of gymnasts, when they do floor routine. She does the poses, but you see it in her eyes, she is thinking about her hardest element and where and how she should do them. Very concentrated.
Evgenia Medvedeva interview at Autumn Classics 9/20/2018 tass.ru/interviews/5583842: "- Is it true that your previous coach Etery Tutberidze advised you to finish your career? - We have never talked about this not before nor after Olympics and I first time heard about this in some questionable interview." Quod Erat Demonstrandum I wonder what old good Doug will have to say on the matter.
I’m not saying at al,pl that her decision to have Brian coach her was a bad one at all, although I feel both Eteri and Evgenia should have handled it better, but what’s witn all the demonisation of Eteri?! She made Evgenia the skater she is today
"Her jumps are perfect but she should lose weight". Uhhh, how about no. Liza gets one of the tallest jumps in the competition and you don't get that strength from being skinny. It's appalling that you would shame her for not looking like Medvedeva or Lipnitskaya (the latter we know now has suffered from anorexia her whole competitive life). Instead of wondering how Liza would jump if she was starved, why don't we wonder how Medvedeva would skate if she was able to carry the musculature that the sport demands?? Instead of forever having to watch her diet because people will comment on how heavy she looks on the ice?? Because I always wonder.
Durex is a major KHL sponsor and that logo is meant for anti-AIDS awareness campaign :) Megasport is a home arena for one of the KHL teams so the logo is there - yes, we have ads on the ice in Russia (( I mean, we hockey community find it quite funny too, but nothing to do with figure skating.
It's interesting to think about Zagitovas phantom versus Hanyus phantom program. They both used it as the reigning Olympic champ, in the post Olympic year. The difference is that Yuzu had to essentially beg to use the music, and turned it into a cohesive, grand, commanding program (despite terrible injury that season), and Alinas is erratic, rushed, and jumbled, to be kind. Sadly, Alina has no autonomy in her career, and everything she messes up is blamed on Eteri, and anything she does successfully is written off as natural talent or luck. She is a gifted jumper, and hard worker, and deserves much better from her coaching team. It will be interesting to see Evgenia grow, and watch their rivalry unfold. I have a feeling Evgenia will be more successful in the long run, because it already feels like Alinas is being sabotaged by Eteri, who only cares about her junior girls and their so called quads.
I think this is a myth. Maybe Evgenia never got a choice in music. But other Eteri skaters have. Yulia picked Schindler's list and also you don't give up on love. Alina picked Samson and Delilah. And Alina wanted Carmen for last year, but they told her she was too young, and let her do it this year. I think they do have some say in their programs, maybe Evgenia didn't
essa leigh That’s a very good point. I guess we can’t know the complete truth, but all I can do is hope that the situation is better for these girls on the inside than it looks to us on the outside.
I'm sure it is, I mean Sasha looks very happy, as do the other girls. And of course, all girls have parents who love and care for them, they are not orphans so I'm sure if the situation is bad their parents will remove them from it
That's what I was wondering, if the parents of these girls do they know how they train? Are they involved? I hope they are... Besides they are in a difficult age, they are childs becoming teenagers so that's another factor of their emotions etc...
Let me give you some insight from FSO - one of the user there is big fan of Brian Orser and he shares some details that make people think he is intimately familiar with Brian in a real life. Not sure if he is real insider or pretends to be one. So few days ago he bragged that Brian pulled some strings at the last Olympics to get VM 122 for free program, instead of 118 that they were getting at every competition up until the Olympics free skate. He sounded very proud of the influence on the judges that Brian has. If you get a chance, next time you interview Doug, please ask him about that and also if that is the strategy that makes Brian feel confident that Medvedeva's flutzes won't get e or ! in the future.
That’s why it’s just better for parents to stay out of it and that’s why in Russia parents are hardly ever involved in skating. Yes parents know best for their children but coaches know best for their students skating.
Also, I love Andrew's skating to death. He has the best SS in singles since Patrick, and has wonderful performace ability. I was encouraged by the fact that he was really fighting here, and as Doug said, it was a real mental victory.
I think you guys have to make a separate video and apologize to Liza, Eugenia and Eteri for insulting and spreading fake rumors. Zhenya has said she had never been told anything like that..,
@@evanperilstein5308 though i gotta agree her body is perfection. She just is full chested and prefers loose shirts. No one doing a 3axel needa to lose weight.
I find ending the music mid-point quite offensive from a program for the Olympic gold medalist. I didn't like it when Max Aaron did it but I also get that he doesn't really get to work with good choreographers. Having the reigning Olympic champion skate to a program so badly choreographed with horrible music edit that just stops out of nowhere is like Eteri showing how much she doesn't give a crap about the sport and yet her students are getting all the hight marks.
I enjoyed it, but you never discuss the Dance event in any detail, though I totally agree with Doug's comments about Avonley & Vadym, such a special Free Dance, though outperformed in the Tango by their team mates, the Browns. More commentary on Dance please! And nice to have Doug in the middle, like Dad with the 2 unruly sons in the Brady Bunch. 😉
We often do discuss ice dance. Though, Doug is not a dance expert and dance wasn't really the focus this week. There was may more to discuss in the ladies division. The show was already 86 minutes long!
Appreciate the consistent and informative vids on TSL. Always look forward to them. I’m puzzled more every year why the 49 different skating federations do next to nothing to promote and grow the sport. It’s weird AF.
Tutberidze gave two medals at the last Olympics, she now raised Trusova, but the active participation in the envious harassment of not only Tarasova, but also journalists on the topic of puberty, revealed the putrefaction of the FFKR control system. This persecution in a gadfly under the name FFKR gives its fruits and parents, on the example of Medvedev, understand on whose side more opportunities, because Tarasova is a Putin voivod in figure skating who has easy money from state TV channels. It's shameful and shameful to watch FFKR pay Medvedev's foreign coach and stay in Canada, it turns out in figure skating. Russia does not have a coaching school and can not find domestic coaches.
Some of you nervous nellys get all a titter whenever someone mentions 'weight'. Doug can rightfully scrutinize someone's fitness or overall 'look' as both a professional and a skating fan. A skater can be in FANTASTIC shape as a young woman, but yet in just 'good' shape as a *skater*. There's a difference. All these fanboys and fangirls saying "she's a beautiful young woman!! HOW DARE YOU!!" really need to get over themselves. Both of these two things can be true: 1) She is a BEAUTIFUL, ATHLETIC, full-bodied woman. 2) Aesthetically and technically, it might further help her to reduce her weight for purposes of her skating (rotation speed, flow, look, etc). BOTH THINGS CAN AND ARE TRUE. I always love it when Doug comes on, cause he gives us REAL TALK. He doesn't sugar coat. He doesn't say things that are politically correct. He speaks to us as the knowledgeable fans that we are. And yet, you guys give him a bad time over a comment made about someone's weight that was totally valid. Gimme a break. I hope Doug continues to come to TSL and speak FREELY, and ignore the busybody riff-raff.
If you're saying that Liza should work on her fitness to help her skating and aesthetic, that's different than saying that her components would go up just by dropping a few pounds. That's really debatable. Perhaps we are just misinterpreting what he was trying to say a bit.
Can’t it be both though? Can’t she work on her fitness to improve her skating, rotation speed, flow, push, etc, and ALSO that it could help her components? And if so, isn’t that OK? I also feel like Doug was saying “components“ as shorthand for everything that is subjective, including GOE. IF she could work on her fitness, get in even better shape, would the +2’s on a SS go to +3’s or 4’s? What about the spins? Now she’s spinning even faster, more centered, do they go up? I guess my point is that skaters, both male and female have been called out for not being in “skater shape”. I remember Michael Weiss looking like he just left the burger joint one year. It’s not sexist to ruminate on the weight of a female skater or her overall resulting look on the ice if she DOES get more fit. Again, Doug gives us real talk. I appreciate the candor.
Yeah Evan, I’m not going to call you an idiot. But you’re (again!) overreacting like a wounded bird here. It’s COMPETITIVE FIGURE SKATING. These things can be decided by the littlest things. Obviously she’s better than “just good” or “decent”, prima facie. The issue is how she relates to the OTHER skaters in her field. If she’s below them, then comparatively, she’s “just good”. Get it? And that difference could mean getting on the world team, or not. If Doug, in all his years of experience, is giving her that criticism, then that’s a VALID OPINION.
Brent's Lucky Slot Channel Liza looks the same now as she did in her best season when she won all the major events. I think Evan is right and she's just more muscular. Think of Midori Ito who had a similar build and was an outstanding jumper. And "The issue is how she relates to the OTHER skaters in her field" - she did better at the test skates than most, including Medvedeva and Zagitova. No reason to worry about her being in shape at this point
Again, it’s not about Evan being “right”. He may be, he may not. It’s about *Doug* and his ability to offer a refreshing candor (an OPINION), and not be pounced on by the rabble implying he’s sexist or amoral for offering such. Cause that’s just not right. It’s the predictable “how DARE you!’s” that came that I’m railing against.
Thumbs up as always. Thank you for what you do! Also is anyone else getting the Applebees commercial with Melissa Etheridge singing “Come to My Window” for EVERY commercial? It’s so loud 😱. Does she even eat there?!
Wow this guy needs to apologize! Oh yea don’t eat and the judges will like it “just because”!?!? Both these speakers need to apologize. Look at Mae 🇫🇷 lskater.. she is not “light” she is strong and amazing. You are DISCOURAGING so many women. It’s disgusting. Omg i can’t keep catching this past that clip
Jonathan, you are strange. You imagined something for yourself, made baseless conclusions and announce it like it's a fact. What Durex commercials? I've been on the stadium. Letter D actually represents DINAMO sport club, one of the most famous and respected in Russia. You really need to make some research before saying something to the public. The joke wasn't even that good
i don't think eteri's literal words were "you're done go have babies", but it's not implausible that she told her "you're done", and that's what I think Doug was agreeing to and what orser had told him
Ew. Even in low res, I can tell by Doug’s skin that he is a toxic person. Thanks for the tip&tell! “Canada nice” is a farce. This Doug character telling people to lose lbs and then dismissing those with ed’s. Big Mary Lee Tracy Vibes. I could see this man demanding I write an apology letter to the doctor. Like MLT, imma invoke JC: “before you criticize, deal with the log in your own eye (the skin on your own face.)”
I’m glad Doug brought up weight on Liza. On her Instagram, i saw her in a bathing suit and i thought she was retiring. Didn’t expect her to be well trained. Don’t @ me!!!
& to invite such a biased person to commentate on rus test skates is...'brilliant decision' :))))
"She should lose 8 to 10 pounds"
That is so wrong and disgusting on so many levels. Liza doesn't need to lose weight, and even if she did, you have no right to comment on her body.
Wtf why not?
There is nothing wrong with Elizaveta’s weight or her style. THIS is why there is an eating disorder epidemic in the sport and I’m no lay person. Shame on you! Please get your heads examined, for the good of the children.
Hes saying her pcs would go up, not that her body is wrong. The real problem is the ISU expecting athletes to have a ballerina's body.
@@evanperilstein5308 i thought id also replied that her body aas perfect and clearly with her 3axel nothing needs to change but i must of messed up posting the other comment
theres nothing wrong with her weight but her style is pretty bad.
The body shaming was truly rude. I’m totally not for being politically correct, but wow.
I am just waiting for the first man/man team or woman/woman for that matter. That would be awesome!
The choreography to her spins was perfect in the FP. I love how Daniil synced the dramatic turns of the music with all the spins.
@@JS-uz4ji i See your point. I think she looks great!
lol, did not know she actually forgot a part of the lp.
37:20 Brief mention of Sinitsina/Katsolopov, Stolbova/Buikin, Popova/Mozgov
38:30 Mikhael Kolyada - he definitely has world champion potential but Doug is right that he can’t keep popping jumps.
Don't you give a damn about your reputation?
gtestkey remember the narrative they try to push so hard russia and Eteri= Evil- doping etc... americans= good 🙄
When there's situations like this, people start to say a lot of things, even the ones involved in the problem say things that probably they don't mean it's the moment...
Just disgusting what you said about Tuktamysheva. try to be that graceful one day. Just try.
I so look forward to this every week. Thank you

Same here!!
Exept Lisa, I guess)
I feel like by sharing what Evgenia said (if she did in face say that) in private, they kinda throw her under the bus with the Russian federation and the public that she still has to deal with back home, to promote Canadian approach to figure skating over the Russian one. How unprofessional.
I'm glad there are people who understand all the damage done by these guys. Evgenia is getting more hate now...
Or very professional... It depends on their real intentions.
The fact that 3 grown adult men have nothing else to do other than gossip about the appearance of young girls... LOL. ugh. Pathetic.
Marina Zueva should be getting a call about Tarasova and Morozov or Lori. Please!!!!
Marina has a way of interjecting interesting pairs choreography and she’s the goddess of classical music choreography which they need. Their music choice and choreography is killing them
Dave's facial reactions are priceless!

@@Keepinitreal55 I absolutely agree with Ilia. Gratitude pays twice.
The further evidence of ETeam's
professional strength that some people don't want to respect.
Maybe Trojan should sponsor the next US National Championships...
My heart broke a bit when you guys mentioned that Zhenya’s best day of skating was her first day with Orser. 😭 That girl has been through much!
Yuri Tsumura oh please 🙄
Angelica Suarez Ramirez Like you would know anything. She trained under Eteri for god sakes, who had her skate while injured. She has been through a lot.
After been told she was done, and then had that awsome day i mean i get the tears
Arianne Петрова she wasn’t crying when she was winning everything under eteri, sour loser
Yes please Jonathan! We will get a viewing party going :)
i loved both dima and mika s skating and programs.
Gabby and Elizaveta are about the same thickness. . . Doug only shames the Russian. . . They are both healthy! That is a good thing!
Time stamps anyone please?
I see the thumbnail, I CLICK!! What a beautiful shot!!! :D Ok, now time to watch. hehe..
Zagitova is still shorter than Medvedeva, unless they've both grown? She hasn't grown much. Why does he say she's a lot taller?
Zagitova now is taller than Medvedeva- 161 sm comparing 159 sm that Evgenia had before.

& She’s capable of so much more too, so it’s really frustrating watching her skate to terrible music and programs.
time stamps?
Just saw photos of Liza and she is actually really skinny. Shame on you for presuming anorexia would magically alter her scores 🤦🏻♀️
Why didn’t he like Yuna‘s edit for Adios Nonino? I love it maybe.
I agree! I was singing "Orange Colored Sky" all day today. When a program sticks in your head like that, it shows real promise.
Zagitova's lutz is much better than Evgenia's, not just that she has correct edge, but she also has more amplitude and distance, even when she falls.
Zagitiva's "rubbish lutz" is a work of art in comparison to Zhenya horrible flutz. I've seen both right in fron of me.
with Tarasova and Morozov also, didn't hear you mention it, but Maxim Trankov helped them with the LP, but not the SP.
Very concentrated.
well said!
Dave, can we get Jonathan a decent mic? Please.
Jonathan is on the road. We are trying our best until he is settled, which is going to happen in the coming weeks.
Understood. Thanks
I’ll travel with it next time!
Jonathan I really enjoy hearing your comments and opinions.
0:43 “I hope you’ll have a lot of opinions...” Be careful what you wish for 😂
Solid show today.
No more Doug!! Please
Evgenia Medvedeva interview at Autumn Classics 9/20/2018 tass.ru/interviews/5583842:
"- Is it true that your previous coach Etery Tutberidze advised you to finish your career?
- We have never talked about this not before nor after Olympics and I first time heard about this in some questionable interview."
Quod Erat Demonstrandum
I wonder what old good Doug will have to say on the matter.
Say it louder for the people in the back!! Preach!
JGP at 49:35.
Almost choked when this was posted!!! Very anticipated 😂 First comment first view 😎
Does anybody know when they start talking about JGP Kaunas?
Nah it's earlier - 49:34, Dave starts asking Doug about the JGP, starting with Torgashev.
Excellent T&T. Enjoyed!
Yay! It’s 5 am here but I going to listen to this!!! Thank you!!!
It's not Ted Barton. It's Doug Haw, a skating coach from Canada 🍁.
Sanford Schimel oh it sounded just like him! Thank you for letting me know. I edited the comment :)
Liza's SP is EXACTLY the same song cut as Gracie's---
When Jonathon talks about seeing all the programs did he see those on isu.org?
Durex is a major KHL sponsor and that logo is meant for anti-AIDS awareness campaign :) Megasport is a home arena for one of the KHL teams so the logo is there - yes, we have ads on the ice in Russia (( I mean, we hockey community find it quite funny too, but nothing to do with figure skating.
They were literally mocking Alina and aLiza
Diana CMM They sometimes sit in to watch practices
I also agree about American parenting. Look at Nathan at the games. His mom urged him to change the jumps and he listened to HER. nuff said
That’s why it’s just better for parents to stay out of it and that’s why in Russia parents are hardly ever involved in skating. Yes parents know best for their children but coaches know best for their students skating.
Thank you so much for this!
Also, I love Andrew's skating to death. He has the best SS in singles since Patrick, and has wonderful performace ability. I was encouraged by the fact that he was really fighting here, and as Doug said, it was a real mental victory.
Andrew has real passion -- and that's something that you can't really train.
I think you guys have to make a separate video and apologize to Liza, Eugenia and Eteri for insulting and spreading fake rumors. Zhenya has said she had never been told anything like that..,
Such a great guest!!!! I love his insights.
@@evanperilstein5308 if anyones body shaming its the judges. Hes just calling it out.
I'm sick of y'all dragging Elena Radionova and Elizaveta Tuktamysheva though

Why do I think Evgenia is going to be shunned at grand Prix😥
Appreciate the consistent and informative vids on TSL. Always look forward to them. I’m puzzled more every year why the 49 different skating federations do next to nothing to promote and grow the sport. It’s weird AF.
1:3:45 TRUSOVA
Really enjoyed Maria’s short program. She should skate to more up tempo music than Summertime yawn lol
And SO RUDE about Eteri! And so much bias
Both of these two things can be true:
1) She is a BEAUTIFUL, ATHLETIC, full-bodied woman.
It’s the predictable “how DARE you!’s” that came that I’m railing against.
wow this edition is even more biased than usual TSL...
Thank you for the vid!! ALSO DAVE - its not med-veed-eva lol. med-ved-yeva. med and ved rhyme.
Wow one of my favorite episodes thanks I love Doug he's so great too
Andrew had that long, laborious back edge technique into the 3A long before he came to Kristy Krall. I noticed that when he was coached by his father.
He has gone to Colorado for coaching for some time, even when he was primarily coached by his father.
The joke wasn't even that good
Durex is apparently a sponsor of KHM. The Durex logo was imprinted on the ice sheet.
And Dave, it's 'Nate is built like a brick shithouse'. Not a "shit brickhouse'. LOL that's a decidedly different metaphor. :-)
SO RUDE SO SO RUDE
“New age” music....its 2018! Thing can change EVEN IN FIGURE SKATING!!! What!?!?!?! Yea it can! Stop getting old and get NEW JUDGES
i don't think eteri's literal words were "you're done go have babies", but it's not implausible that she told her "you're done", and that's what I think Doug was agreeing to and what orser had told him
i didnt get a notification :(
You should be ashamed of yourselves! Body shaming is NEVER okay! Disgusting!
Anyone can spin? lol there’s hope for me then 😂
Yes, anyone can spin, but no one say anything about the quality of the spin ;)

The Russian bots are in full swing in this comment section.
I’m glad Doug brought up weight on Liza. On her Instagram, i saw her in a bathing suit and i thought she was retiring. Didn’t expect her to be well trained. Don’t @ me!!!
