@@DrScarface74 That is how you treat the girl who has brought so many medals for Russia? Medvedeva doesn't deserve being labelled in that derogatory fashion and she is still working her ass for while representing Russia... Just as much as Zagitova . Honestly, Zagitova doesn't deserve fans like you, it just ruins her reputation without any fault of hers
What bothers me is how Liza has no transitions or difficult choreography whatsoever. But then there's people like Alina who have VERY difficult programs with nonstop transitions/choreography, which makes executing jumps a lot harder. If Liza had a program close to Alina's or even Zhenya's I'm sure we would be seeing much different results.
I wonder that as well. Is she capable to do transitions and difficult choreography? Or it's the fault of the choreographer who didn't try to make good program. I like good jumping techniques but in Tuk's case her empty programs and spins prevent me to enjoy her performance. I hope that she can go to a good choreographer and make a better program, not up to Eteri's level of transitions but something that she can perform.
Liza said in interview, she is trying to do some transitions, but it's very difficult for her. There is a reason, why transitions get extra points and it's not like you add an extra move to choreography and you get more points. It makes the program significantly more difficult.
@@danielarifai3448 People who are not skaters don't know how difficult it is to get into a jump from transitions and/or perform transitions after landing a jump; they're in fact hard to do on the ice alone, and it increases the difficulty when they're preceding a jump. That elite skaters know how to make them look easy doesn't mean they are easy.
@@danielarifaiova3345 What do you mean? Liza has been competing for Russia off and on for over 10 years now and will probably go for 10 more. She's a smart girl, she pops up when there is an opening in the competition and falls back to train when there isn't. She will be fine.
I'm talking about the type of career Plushenko, Michelle Kwan or Carolina Kostner had, not about challenge cups. Because this sport was always about long term stars and strong personality and I really hope for the same career for Evgenia.
“Tuktamysheva because she had pneumonia, and Medvedeva because she had a terrible season.” -Dave OOOOFFFF 😂😂🤠 Three minutes in and the sass is already unleashed. Much love for both!
I agree Sofia may have campy programs but she skates the heck out of them. I am so torn between Evgenia and Elizaveta. I love Zhenya and would love for her to go. But I have a soft spot in my heart for Tutk. Always did and it’s been her season. Zhenya I feel is still in rebuilding mold. I want her to slay it next season and peak at the best time this quad.
I am a little bit biased but I don't think Liza doesn't have any chances to medal at worlds - she won bronze at GPF even though she made some mistakes and all of her major competitors were there. This weekend her LP was obviously watered down in comparison to what she did earlier in the season. To me it seemed like her goal was to get though it with no major mistakes since she's not back to her pre-pneumonia stamina. And she did that. + her and Sofia are the most reliable this season while Zhenya and Alina were having some issues and honestly they can very well be first and last. Taking both of them seems a little bit risky.
Last year Alina had the best skate of her life, then had the worst skate of her life a month later. Maybe it will be the opposite this year. For her sake, I hope that's the case. But who knows?
mish098aimer it seems to me that Alina practicing quads is making her technique weaker and prone to more knee problems, hence why she has problems doing 3+3 jumps now. She also URs every single jump...I think Alina needs more carbs, she has virtually no energy to jump.
We all need to remember this feeling of excitement for the ladies' singles, especially the competition between the Russian ladies, because I don't think it's gonna be this way a year from now. All the ladies are having particular struggles with their skating performances and some inconsistency, so it looks like next year the juniors are taking over. But when it comes to the team selection, Zagitova, Samodurova and Tuktamysheva have had better results this season. I just don't understand why everyone is going after Zagitova, I know she's not even near her best skating, but she's the one with the best results this season (1st at Finland, Nebelhorn and Rostelecom, 2nd at GPF in Vancouver and 2nd at Euros). At least let's give her a chance and see if it's gonna get worse before it gets better.
Sorry but isn’t Medvedeva abit overrated ? Her jumps kinda improved on the axel but those prerotations & some jumps were under still. In the GP events, Liza scored 200 points above for all her competitions - best one was close to 220. Medvedeva ‘s scores below 200 for all her GP events so....
Kyoko Sumoto I think they're more looking into the long run here. Liza's PCS doesn't really cut it so she heavily relies on her (usually wonderful) jumps. Her programs, while entertaining, are inferior in difficulty and complexity. Meanwhile, Evgenia has greater scoring potential IF she skates clean. The world loves a redemption story, Japan loves Medvedeva, and Russian Fed seems to prefer her too. She's the riskier choice though, as she could still bomb everything.
Brian seemed to be *very* nervous during all the events he was at with her, and I feel maybe he channeled even more nervousness into her. Their energy has been strange together. I love them both and I feel like they're working it all out, but it's a process.
Cornelian LMAO. i love brian but he’s very much an “i love you and i’m supporting you but you’re also making my hair fall out with stress” presence! 😂 evgenia comes from a camp where her coach was always cool as a cucumber, and tracy seems to be a more nurturing and upbeat version of that. i really liked seeing them interact and i really liked seeing evgenia look so relaxed.
Liza Should be named in the worlds team - Her has got perfect 3A, 3Lutz, 3-3 Combination. She had a good season & medaled in all her Grand prix events and to come back from pneumonia and to land her jumps in this competition is amazing. Can’t wait to see her battle her 3A with Rika in the worlds. Alina too had medaled in all her Grand Prix events, yes she had a rough skate in her FS in Europeans (probably due to nerves - she’s the defending champion, everyone is expecting her to win). However, it seems now everyone is eyeing on Rika to be the world champion that might kinda take some pressure off Alina. For Evgenia, all her Grand Prix competitions were below 200 points (not gonna talk about the Russian cup since its highly inflated where her Lutz actually scored a +2 GOE... higher than Liza's...) Evgenia only had one good skate this season ( which is this Final Cup competition - most probably bcos there wasn’t much competition with the group of girls. However still her jumps are pretty under and not got marked) If she goes to the worlds - Don’t think she should be able to be on the podium. We have the Japanese Girls looking strong this season, Elizabet tursynbaeva who improved a lot this season, Bradie who had won Evgenia twice this season and Mariah bell who looks amazing this season.
Evgenia had a late start in her training and her programmes were all basically unfinished until recently, also this was a transitional year for Evgenia with a big move and coach changes.
I would send Samodurova, Zagitova and Tukt and if Zagitova withdraws then give it to Med. This season Medvedeva has had one good competition the rest were bad and if her 3Lz had been called ! or e like it should of then Tukt would have won
Actually I don't think Zagitova will withdraw from Worlds because I think she'll know it's her last chance to win worlds with all the junior girls going senior next year
I don't think she will withdraw. She has certainly been at the rink several times this week, there have been multiple videos and photos of her there hanging out with Alena and Diana there so I don't know why she would waste her time there if she isn't training. There is nothing wrong with her skating, she has had a great season and has a terrific seasons best, so right off the bat that's an automatic two GP assignments next year. If anybody else had the season she had would people be carrying on about how badly they had performed and that they should retire?
I can totally see her withdrawing. As in, they will probably name her, but it might already be a plan to make her withdraw due to injury or whatever. This way they wouldn't signal that they think the OGM is already done, but also they wouldn't risk her bombing in Worlds and give her time to recharge. Seeing how they propped both Zhenya and Liza as ready with the scoring in the Russian Cup, this might have been the plan all along.
I think also to get experience and confidence with a changed FS. She has now skated it clean twice. This has to be good for her confidence, but it also lets them tackle the real issue - her SP, with less pressure. I strongly suspect they plan to skate this downgraded FS at Worlds because it will likely be all she needs, especially if she skates her SP clean.
Have you seen a medals ceremony at this Russian Cup when Tracey was invited to the ice in order to congratulate her as a winner's coach? When all people were chanting "Tracey! Tracey!" That was a real moment for tears:)
@@TheSkatingLesson i would prefer an honest cry rather than a fake kiss. Tracy was asked by medvedeva, how were her spins and the response that tracyy gave: "let's see what judges say, how do you thing they were?" why nobody points to medvedeva and says the truth about her weakneseas? she's lost...
I kind of jumped through the time stamps so I might have missed something but EXCUSE ME, really not a word about Gubanova and her short??? God this girl is pure awesomeness
If they send Medvedeva everyone will be pissed. They haven’t even announced the worlds team but I already see the comments on Medvedeva’s Instagram trashing her (in Russian, and she replied to some as well). I don’t get why people hate her so much, but alas what can you do. Liza is the better jumper, no questions. But at RCF she received higher PCS scores than anything she has gotten internationally. She is nothing but jumps to me. There is no program. And Medvedeva, has some jumps, although not very good. But at least there is some program. Whoever RusFed chooses will be controversial. I just wish people wouldn’t write such personal attacks. This includes Alina too, who Elena Rodina was trashing today. Leave these girls alone and take your complaints to the fed.
Not everyone will be pissed. How can the Russian Federation say this competition is to qualify them for the last World spot, then not give it to the one who wins?
D D Alright, correction: Most people will be pissed, some won’t. The consensus is that since Liza had a far better season than Medvedeva, she should be the one to go. Which is fair. But you have to take into account the scoring potential Medvedeva has. Hell, she could podium even. Whereas Liza just doesn’t get anything in PCS
@@wkim22 🤣 Lol she won yeas good for her but still not the spot to worlds !! And if they change their mind and send her ... TBH O don't think she gets gold 🥇 Rika's power will finish her 💅
@R J Alina is NOT a marketing gold here in Russia. It's Zhenya who has all the media contracts. Alina is barely there in media. It's a long and complicated story but that's how we roll, sadly.
it's bcz you don't know what they are skating about, you don't know the story behind . for me Medvedeva's Anna Karenina is a master piece of some kind , some ppl even cried while watching it
also, rika was there for the world standing to ensure she would skate in the last group at worlds, apparently. if that was in question then it makes sense as that's a big pcs boost.
i don't think evgenia should go, even though i love her to death and do think that she should have won the russian cup over liza, because she still isn't at her best yet, and just needs more time. You guys have to keep in mind Rusfed's first priority is three spots for next year. Liza doesn't get high scores internationally because she just doesn't get that PCS. If rusfed wants max spots, send Evgenia. If they want to please everyone, they give the spot to liza. None of the russian girls will probably win this year unless zagitova pulls it together and rika fails her 3A. Liza, even with a 3A will never be the world champion unless literally everyone else bombs. Evgenia, if she skates clean and if rika and alina fail, might get first. Tursynbaeva might also just land a quad sal and win lmfao. honestly, this year is gonna be so unpredictable. i honestly don't even know who should go
@@milaroberts2961Actually I'd love if that happens !! Elizabet landing a quad and win 1st place !! Rika silver and another Japanese 3rd... It would be a great lesson to the Russians !! 💅😆
Just a quick comment on Konstantinova and Anna Karenina; I actually find the entire score for this movie (the 2012 version with Keira Knightley, by Dario Marianelli, which was nominated for an Oscar by the way) to be quite lovely and to have several beautiful moments which really fit the actual movie (which I know nobody saw, but I did, and I liked it). Unfortunately Medvedeva's music cuts from this score were very quick and erratic, a la all of Daniil's music cuts, but Konstantinova literally picked the most boring parts of the entire score, looped them several times so it sounds both repetitive AND boring, and also shows literally -10 emotion when skating to it, which makes it feel terribly blah and awful. So I feel the need to defend the music a bit - when listened to as it was intended to, it is actually quite moving and has some wonderful moments, some of which are adapted from the Russian folk song "The Little Birch Tree" (yes, I know too much about this score).
Kyra Swartz I agree so much! There is one track “Anna’s last train” that is so tragic and beautiful. There are great songs in that soundtrack, and if put together right, could make a beautiful and effective program. But so far every Anna Karenina program has not done this.
@@TheSkatingLesson Haha that did take me out of it a little bit, Jude Law is definitely not believable as a Russian, from any era; but I still enjoyed it as a whole.
@@DrScarface74 Calm down, it's just an adaptation for English speaking audiences. Also, pretty much all of the aristocratic Russians at that time spoke French (many did not even know how to write in Russian, their native language - learn your own history!) so if you are attacking the movie on the fact that the wrong language was spoken, you are incorrect as well.
@@DrScarface74 Have you actually read Anna Karenina? If you had, you would notice how often Tolstoy portrays the dialogue among Anna's social circle as taking place in French. Tolstoy's other works, including War and Peace, also include a great deal of French dialogue. It is a historical fact that Russian was not the overriding language of use among aristocratic Russians (not sure why you put that in quotes, as "aristocracy" is a word often used to refer to the upper/ruling classes in pretty much every society in the world) during the 18th and 19th centuries. Please educate yourself by reading the following sources: historum.com/threads/russian-nobility-speaking-french.63061/; www.jstor.org/stable/10.3366/j.ctt16r0h5g; languagehat.com/language-in-19th-century-russia/. i want Medvedeva to stay home and not be named. i'm afraid if Evgenia does poorly at Worlds, she'll lose her confidence (AGAIN) and be hated and blamed even more. I want her to lock herself away in TCC, work on next season's programs, get healthy and train that 4S.
I thought Shoma should stay home from 4CC because he has just sprained his ankle like 3 times, but he came in & killed it. If she can do it, it’ll do a lot for her. Sometimes you gotta take risks.
Have a faith in her. Being worried about someone, that's what hurts the person the most. She grew through this season. I believe she won't bomb her program ever again. To fall, yes, but to give up on the program, not anymore.
@@DrScarface74 Dude get the fuck out. You only spread hate everywhere Evgenia is mentioned, if you dislike her so much, you can always ignore her & support your favorite, but instead you're always attacking her. You're just a toxic & sad person, who doesn't have anything better to do than be a hater, get a life
There's no point in training for quads when all the junior girls won't be able to do them as seniors. Also Evgenia is a tall girl 5'6...quads are for people with small compact bodies otherwise it poses as too much danger for injuries. Quads are also ugly jumps, I wish the ISU limits them in competition, I rather Evgenia words on her 3S 3Lo jumps as she has been doing
Time Stamps: 1:15 Chipotle 8:48 Olive Garden Hot Talk Feel bad for Zag. Lots of heat and some bad management and timing this season - unseated fan fav Med, criticism for backloading, the “”zagitova” rule stained her gold medal, she grew too fast, assigned two tired ass warhorses for music, and now the young guns coming up will unseat this....16 year old.
So they announced their team and the last goes to Evgenia. Seriously ? Lol no wonder she posted a post saying she would do her best in the worlds when they previously announced it was Konstantinova who got the spot. So I Guess Evgenia knew she was gg to get it after all. Well well well....they probably had already planned to send her all along. So much unfairness to Liza! :( she was all good this season, she’s on the podium in all her events yet she’s not selected !
I did wondered too... why did she posted she would be doing her best if she’s going to the worlds because they had announced it was Konstantinova. So it was pre planned ?! They probably told her they gonna let her win the final cup...Guess it made sense now so she said “ Liza would be going” is really just for show. She knew she got the spot all along.
ooooh, the stuff about with ghislain is really interesting. 🤨 i think evgenia could really benefit from working with him - her jumps have improved quite a bit but could still be a lot better. strange that she supposedly hasn’t worked with him already.
The dramatics of this season are so intense! I feel this Russian team selection is one of the hardest they have had to make in while. The pressure on all of these girls in so intense! Thanks for the post:) Ps was Tuktamesheva on meldonium or some. Performance drug? What ever happed with that? Anyone know... Thanks:)
@@Patrick-vj1qu My sense is that this intensity is related both to the fact that the Russian Federation is aware that they could potentially sweep the medal podium at the 2020 Worlds, so they really want to make sure they don't botch 2019 Worlds and lose the three spots they currently have, and that skaters like Liza know that if they don't compete at Worlds this year their chances of making it onto the team next year are exceedingly slim (if not non-existent).
I wish some of the Russian girls would change nationality so more of them would perform at worlds. So many countries has no one good to send a still those skaters get there (I'm from one of those countries). The whole competition would be on another level. And I sooo don't care about the country from which the skater is. For me personally, worlds without Evgenia just doesn't count.
i think they should send liza tbh - i love evgenia to bits but i worry that the backlash from being named to the team + the pressure to do well there might do permanent damage to her self esteem that she’s finally starting to get back. she also still needs to work on translating everything she’s learned to competition - her 2 skates at RCF were fairly clean but the runthroughs were infinitely better imo. tracy even said that it’s going to take more time for her to be able to properly apply her new technique in competition. i think it’s best that she sits this one out. liza had a great season and she still has a few weeks to work on her conditioning before worlds (because her stamina did seem to be lacking a little which is understandable.) still hoping they send her to world team trophy though. i think it would be fun for her and a chance to raise her season’s best score.
I mean, not trying to say Zagitova has a good season, but she got a medal from every international competition she competed in. Her bad season is a season many skaters dream of.
HJC This is very true. It makes you realize how crazy of standards Russian skaters are held to. But people seem to forget what Alina scored at Euros, although she won silver there, would not be top five at worlds. I hope she does well at Worlds, I’m tired of seeing her have meltdowns. It’s hard to watch that happen to a sixteen year old girl.
@@hannibaljustincase9985 Completely agree!! and In the worst case scenario she will leave this sport being the OLYMPIC CHAMPION! (two times olympic medalist), European Champion (two times medalists), Grand Prix final champion (2 times medalist), Junior World champion, Russian champion, 4 gold medals on the grand prix and 2 junior grand prix medals ! the only thing she is missing is a world medal. She has acomplished more than any current skaters in terms of just wins, maybe second to medvedeva/Yuna Kim or Katarina witt!!
@@hannibaljustincase9985 True !! Although she started to win some silvers it showed how she's still fighting despite everything that has happened... Yeah a lot of skaters wish a season like that 👀
I don't think Tuktamysheva's position is so shaky at this moment in time, I think she could beat any other Russian at worlds, If she goes clean and jumps/components are correctly rewarded. Who can beat her? Rika and Kaori are my bet for the podium at worlds, Satoko (As much as I LOVE HER) is going down in terms of scores, her jumps are being called under more than they used to be called. You guys always prop up Eunsoo and I don't think she is last group material (Inconsistent flutz, bad salchow, inconsistency in other jumps, etc). Bradie is inconsistent and Mariah doesn't have the technical requirements. Let's say that Rika, Kaori, Satoko, Alina, Sofia, Elizaveta/Evgenia, Eunsoo, Bradie, Mariah and Tursynbaeva are top 10 at worlds, only 4 of those girls have put out scores internationally that can beat Tuktamysheva, so in worst case scenario is 5th, She put out a 76 in the SP at GPF (Only Rika/Alina level scores in the short program) and 144 in the FS (Only Satoko, Rika, Alina have beat those scores in this season), Maybe she is lost momentum, BUT you are the ones with revisionist history because Elizaveta was third at NHK with one of the stronger fields of the season and there is an argument that she should have beat Satoko for second, And If she hadn't fell and Underrotated her 3A (which she did in the long) she would have beat medvedeva whose jumps are NOT ANYWHERE NEAR THE LEVEL OF TUKTAMYSHEVA's and whose components should be obviously better than TUK but not as much as to beat her in international competition.
That was more of Satoko losing than it was Liza winning, tho. Satoko messed up the timing of her jumps, so they ended up ur, but i don't think that will happen at worlds, not to that degree.
@@JustSmileBiitch Don't get me wrong. I love Satoko but she was 6th in both the short and long program here and is continually under-scored in PCS and is prone to under-rotations. A clean Satoko, correctly scored, should beat Liza, but her jumps often fail her and the judges often fail her in PCS.
I've been waiting all day to hear the announcement but I didn't expect such choice: Stanislav Konstantinov , Alina Zagitova , Sofia Samodurova Substitute: Elizaveta Tuktamysheva , Evgenia Medvedeva RusFed really suprised me XD
Aleksandra Pałka this is preliminary, they can change that during next month in case somebody withdraws. They also announced three pairs for ice dance while Russia has only two spots in ice dance at Worlds lol so I doubt this selection as a whole
Yes, they said they didn't have enough time to make a clear decision so they submit the Euro team. However, changes can be made through withdrawals (why would someone do that?)... Lol! Everyone was arguing about Liza and Zhenya =))) We will find out the Russian World Team at Worlds... in the short program... who shows up is competing :))
Does anyone else feel like there are 2 types of skating parents: the kind that is all in and has their hands in every aspect of the skating (Danny Kwan, Arthur Liu) and the kind who step back and let the coaches, etc do the work (Kate Virtue, Jackie Osmond). Those all in parents tend to miss the big picture and can be too busy trying to capitalize on the moment both with results and financially.
I know this was about the ladies, but at this point I would let Kolyada sit the world's out as he clearly has some issues, and it would probably be good for him to think what he should do next ( change the coach, or hire a therapist whatever, but some work is clearly in order and another disastrous performance at world's might just be the end for him). I just don't understand why Voronov is not being considered for the team ( I know he had an injury and everything but he is the only Russian man who's made the gpf, and I think even if he is not fully recovered yet he would have done better than 140 points in the free). I am not saying send him to world's but I would think it would at least make sense for him to be invited to the Russian Cup final in Novgorod to see how he was doing. I love Kolyada, but I think he is just not ready for world's at this point.
Lena Vinogradova i was wondering if someone would say this. seriously, i just watched misha’s free program from the comp he was just at and.....yikes. i’m really worried about him and i’m terrified he’s going to hurt himself badly if he keeps this up.
@asilem Well, Voronov was just named the third alternate behind Lazukin and Aliev, which means that he is not really in the running. I don't think that's fair or wise, but hey who needs the 3 spots for next year, right? The Rus Fed clearly doesn't care about the spots at this point...Why I think sending Voronov would make sense: again he made the Grand Prix final (the only Russian Man who was at the final), not to mention he really loves performing in Japan and tends to produce solid performances in front of the Japanese fans. Solid enough to finish in the top 10....
Maybe this is a question for a Worlds preview, but you guys kept saying Samodurova will most likely finish fifth or six - so who do you have beating her? I think Kihira and Miyahara are the best bets, but beyond them, I can’t see anyone as a sure thing.
Yeah, that's just it. There's a lot of conditions attached to almost every contender, and this year, no one has really stood out, although I think Kihira is (probably) the front runner at this point. There's a chance everyone could be great at Worlds, or Samodurova could make mistakes at the biggest competition of her career. But she's been very consistent so far this year, and almost no one else has been. I just heard that and found myself saying the same things you guys are about most of the top ladies. Worlds is going to be interesting - that's for sure.
I think only Kihira might be a sure thing, everyone else including Satoko and Kaori are up for grabs, cause these two are also having setbacks this season, so everyone else stands a chance for the podium on the condition they have a good day, Alina, Bradie, Liza, Sofia.....
@@TheSkatingLesson I can't wait. Here is something maybe you can address - I've seen it rumoured that Alina suffers from Osgood-Schlatter disease in her knees, but I have never seen anything official. Do you think Zagitova's 333 video was current.? Is Eteri fighting the Russian Fed? Maybe thinking she can pull one more performance out of her. You know... bully her a lot! Let us know more about Medeeva's jump team. I can't believe Russia knows she is not getting Orser's best jump coach.!! What is that about?
Honestly I think part of the problem is that even compared to other mental illnesses there is such a lack of understanding of what eating disorders actually are, and do just have this image of the most extreme cases and how “crazy” it is to starve yourself to look like a emancipated POW survivor or make yourself throw up several times a day, like that is clearly crazy right, and so completely foreign, and clearly this nice young girl doesn’t look crazy, clearly everything must be better. (where as other mental illnesses such as depression or anxiety are more relatable in a sense, even though actual clinical depression or anxiety is very different to what a healthy person might experience, every one at some stage goes through tough times, and thinks they can relate, and the stigma is more about well I cope why can’t they) All of this is to say I do not fault Gracie at all for sticking to the easy narrative, of any of us were offered a choice between a narrative which talked about having anxiety and depression and all the stigma (real or perceived) that carries with it, or the option to be like yes my life is wonderful right now and everything is better, and have people believe that I think most people would take the easy narrative, but I do really fault her manager and the interviewers for propagating these super harmful stereotypes, Also I read really appreciate TSL calling this out, and actually doing the important hard work that actually reduces stigma and really makes the skating community better.
It was mentioned in the video (I believe) and in a comment that this is likely Zagitova’s last opportunity for worlds because of the juniors that will become seniors next season (I assume Sherbakova and Trusova?). Would this also be the case for Medvedeva next season?? This could have been mentioned in the video and I just missed it, so sorry if that’s the case!
Tamar LxMxBxPxTxE , I don’t think it was mentioned at all, I also noticed the main idea was it was the last chance for Zagitova but Medvedeva was mentioned as the contender for Olympics 2022 lol How will Medvedeva even manage to get a spot in Olympic team, I have no idea. Actually I wish for both Alina and Zhenya to come back to their old forms and battle it out again but sadly the competition will be too fierce.
@@dinchik19 Yes they mention about Evgenia's small probabilities of worlds next season but also they said about her preparation for Olympics 2022 🤔 So yeah doesn't make sense ... But yes we'll see what happens at worlds & after from then it will be crucial decisions about keep competing or not ... That goes for all seniors ladies right now !!
Unless they are thinking that the new Russian ladies will be gone by 2022. They come in next year and win everything, but as is the pattern, sadly, they start to struggle with the technique as they grow up and they are gone in 1-2 years, before the next Olympics. I would like to see Medvedeva develop her skating skills and have a career like Katarina Witt. I think that she loves skating and performing that much that she would put in the work to get there.
I would love to see Medvedeva compete at the 2020 Olympics. Maybe it’s only because I’m so much more partial to Zhenya but I see her lasting longer than Zagitova.
Liza should go 1) She has earned it 2) Med will NOT get those scores internationally wheras Liza DID get high scores. 3) This video is just another "hate Eteri" - "love Orser". You should just acknowledge that Evgenia IS NOT doing great this season, yes! Brian couldn't do any good to her as we all thought he would have. I hate that sponsors can decide who's going to Worlds..
Olga Avdeeva i dont understand why does these f*cking russians hate Evgenia. She is a two time world champion, olympic silver medalist, her psychological conditions are being improved,as well as her technique and skating skills. Only russians can hate russians in the world, others are admiring of her.
Well apparently ... Alina , Sofia , and kostantinova. Are the world team . Some one that I follow on Instagram just post a photo of president of the federation announcement....if is true well... who knows.
This episode was good but no talk of viktoria vasilieva who won bronze at Russian cup Final (and is in the thumbnail) and also no mention of Starr who won silver at Challenge Cup or Amber, who led the SP.
Rahel Horvat Yes, but isn’t Vasilieva too young for worlds.. or no? Gubanova was great. A shame about the fall in the long. I think she should be given more opportunities... she’s always given the short end of the stick.
I listened to jvn's podcast with Michelle Kwan, but im very new to skating so I didn't catch what y'all were talking about when she mentioned salt lake and her dad. Can anyone fill me in? I know she dropped frank and had her dad be her coach for that Olympics, but what were the underlying issues?
1:14:46 I wonder if the reason for Rika going to challenge cup was to boost her world ranking before the world championship? her win there bumped her up above bradie and elizabet and into the top 6 (of skaters going to worlds) so she'll be in the final group at worlds now thanks to it
couldnt agree with dave more re tuktik. her skating is cringeworthy! why are her elbows always bent so ugly? she never stretches ANYTHING - not even her elbows or hands! the entire package is just gawd awful, and its really a disservice to her amazing talent and skill as a jumper, because that "choreography" of head bobbing and wrist flicking is among the worst i have ever seen in the entire sport of figure skating
I think the head bobbing, wrist flicking, shimmy shoulders etc. are there to cover up her lack of back flexibility. There is not much range of movement in body positions and sometimes barely a layback position.
nah. its just plain bad skating. flexibility was never important in the 90s, but choreography always was. there is absolutely no excuse for it at this point and frankly i commend the russian skating federation for not rewarding her pcs. liza and mishin should be absolutely embarrassed at putting out programs like that - triple axel or not.
Amen to this!!! I honestly think 7's are generous for her PCS.... I've seen novice skaters on instagram look better than her (barring jumps, of course) 😬
Alina is going DOWN Sofia is STEADY Medvedeva is going UP Turk is all OVER THE PLACE Now who do you send? In all reality they don't care about anyones feelings. They need 3 spots. And Medvedevas score is more likely to get that .
@asilem The problem, I think, is that if Liza misses her 3A and flubs some of her other jumps (whether in the SP or LP, or both) she could easily end up in 11th or 12th place. This kind of placement seems less likely for Zhenya bc her success is not solely predicated on how well she lands her jumps. This is why, between a skater "going UP" and a skater "all OVER THE PLACE," the former seems like the better option.
Does anyone know why Russia have so many National competitions? They did a senior Russ Nats (with some junior could participate due to the difference of age requirement with ISU rule, this also weird IMO because they have junior level competition a month later), a junior Nats and now this Russian cup? does each competition have specific goals? In my opinion Tuk should go to Worlds based on her track record this season. I'm afraid if Med goes to Worlds and she fails to deliver her carrier would take a step back. Or if Alina withdraws then Tuk & Med can both go to Worlds.
Rika did 2 wonderful 3As in the warm-up before the short, and then regrettably turned it into a double in the programme itself. Very pleased she turned that round in the Free!
angela salgado Evgenia seems to be in top form now! 😊 Eteri obviously did a good job coaching her to adapt and survive as a child. She is very strong willed with immense mental and physical strength, Russia should be proud of having Evgenia represent them internationally.
I have to agree with Dave here. Tuktamysheva had no medal potential at worlds. I was furious at the time that they chose Medvedeva, but I was wrong, it was the right choice. It's interesting though, that at this time, no one expected Zagitova to win worlds, me included.
How many Russian skating coaches of this level are there right now? Is Tarasova still coaching, are Rodnina, Zmievskaya, etc., still a factor? How powerful is Eteri actually?
I feel so so sorry but I had this same thing with Konstantinova. We were talking about Russian Cup final with friends and I was like. Okay Samodurova won, Zagitova had a skate where Franca Bianconi was calling for help. But who the hell was the 3rd Russian team member? No seriously I know Russia has 3 spots who it was? Oh yeah Konstantinova. But I can’t tell what place did she took without checking the results page.
There was this joke that a bunch of people in the FS Live broadcast chat thought Gracie Gold was competing at RCF so the phrasing of the title is kinda funny lol
Yes. We are uploading another video. I explained this on Twitter. That interview is almost two hours. Viewers asked for this to be in two parts. You may listen to the interview now on Patreon: www.patreon.com/TheSkatingLesson
Send Evgenia to World's please! She is in top form and so gorgeous to watch. Evgenia has it all: grace, sophistication beautiful skating skills, consistency, and her technique I think is so much better than all her peers in Russia!
@@ixar23 Evgenia IS beautiful, and consistent. Before Olympics she was 2 years straight unbeatable senior and winning everything. In 2017-2018 season, she had serious back injury and foot injury. NOW learned to fail. She's back !!!after Russian cup Final. Next year she'll be on fire, winning everything again. Sure of it. Quad Russian girls will start growing next year, best of luck to them too. For me. I watch figure skating because of Medvedeva . Love her!
Asto Fiammata Evgenia has the longest winning streak out of all the Russian ladies, and now her skating technique is even better. Her artistry is also evolving. This season was a transitional year for her. She is back to her top form. Every single one of her peers could not put up with as much pressure as Evgenia has endured in her entire skating career so far. She is mentally and physically strong. A champion 💕
Nicole competed from 2000 to 2002 in senior nationals. She did a couple junior Grand Prix events, a couple senior Grand Prix events (including 2001 Skate Canada in Saskatoon) and Four Continents in 2001. She tried to come back in 2008.
Well they just announced the team and Konstatantinova is on that team, meanwhile Elizaveta and Evgenia are alternates...I guess we should say hello to the two spots next year, seems to be a very likely possibility. But at least Evgenia's haters will be happy, she is only second alternate, so she definitely won't be going...
The Federation said they didn't have proper time to make a decision between due date for entries and the russian cup final so literally just sent the same entries as they were for Euros. Then they commented that the rules allow them to change entries. You would't point out that the rules allow you to change entries unless you plan to change them. No guarantees at all that Evgenia will or won't be going. We will see who turn up to skate on the day haha.
@@allybeetulk1457 Yes, I guess that would make sense. But here is a million dollar question what if the one they choose to kick out in favour of either Elizaveta or Evgenia (Stanislava I presume: out of the five of them she is most likely to bomb one or both of her programs) refuses to conveniently "fall ill"? She can do that, right? After all she was named for the team and not as an alternate. Not to mention Evgenia is only a second alternate, and I don't think they are going to replace Zagitova or Samodurova
You are disappointing when you learn Konstantinova was the 3rd Russian woman figure skater representative for the Saitama World's 2019 in March. Sorry to inform you guys.
True, except the way it has been worded is that there wasn't enough time between the Russian Cup Final and the date the ISU requires Worlds entries to be entered by, for the coaches panel to make a recommendation to the review committee to approve any changes. So they have announced that the same entries as Europeans have been submitted for the moment (including subsitutes which are Evgenia and Elizaveta) and then point out that the ISU rules allow the Federation to make changes to their initial entries. So they are pretty much announcing that they will be changing the entries. The mystery remains about who will actually end up skating.
@@rahelhorvat1471 unless they are in the federation they don't know. Nobody knows. Maybe it will stay the same as Europeans but why would they go to all the fuss of saying there is no time and pointing out that they can make changes if they aren't planning to? I would put money on that announcement being code for we will change this.
"Access Hollywood" is a NBC show where the network is trying to capture younger viewers, so I wasn't surprised they did a secondary interview there. Even between the two NBC shows her narrative changed, from wanting to win a world medal as a goal to competing at Nationals. Regardless, I wish her the best.
TheSkatingLesson Sorry, my point could've been clearer. Of course I know that you know what the show is. I was saying that the network (NBC) is branding "Access" as increasingly "lifestyle" and newsy (as E! Is cornering all the "entertainment" content). It doesn't hurt that "Access" airs daytime and has a "Today" alum as an anchor. I assume the "Today" sit-down was shot first and the "Access" piece later in L.A. Strangely, I found Gracie less edited and more "real" on "Access." The "Today" piece felt more rushed and restrained by morning show timing.
Awesome video guys! I heard elsewhere that this Russia Cup Final is like a B type of event and that Evgenya Liza and Konstantinova were invited to participate, whereas the rest of the competitors had to actually qualify for it. Can anybody confirm this? Because it feels really weird to see to level skaters compete among skaters that are clearly not in the same level. I don't know if the RF always issue invitation to top skaters for this event or what.
Alejandra Vasquez yes, that’s true (though i read somewhere that participating at nationals was also a qualifier - don’t know how true that is but if it is it means only liza was truly “invited”). a bit unfortunate and unfair considering the rest of the competition bar leonova are girls who have never or will never be sent internationally. :(
I think I’d be surprised if Liza was lower than top 4 at worlds, if she goes. He second mark is unfortunate but fair. Her GOE on the other hand is a travesty. How her lutz doesn’t get a +5 every time baffles me. My feelings on her future wholly depends not next season. If we see her push herself transition wise and choreography wise I think we’ll be surprised about the future. This is of course not taking into account the uber Juniors coming up next year but like with all Juniors we’ll see what happens when it happens. It still hurts me that a promising Junior like Marin is struggling so much.
DSQueenie i don't see transitions and choreography changing for Liza any time soon - that choreographer she works with is long-time choreographer in Mishin's team. And unfortunately all her programs throughout the years look very alike, and also somewhat similar to Sofia's
LaB transitions aren’t the only bullet though and I feel she hits a lot of the other ones. I mean if you don’t get rewarded for perfect technique then why are we here?
It really doesn’t matter who they send. None of the Russian girls have a chance of winning or even getting on the podium unless the Japanese girls flop or Alina gets her shit together. For each of these girls, it’ll probably the last chance they have to make the worlds team for Russia with all the juniors coming up next year and the year after etc. Someone will be left sad but I think Liza has earned her place so it would be more fair to send her. She’s been more consistent & you still have a good chance of keeping 3 spots because she doesn’t completely fall apart. Evgenia is more risky imo depending on which Evgenia you get but it’s also her last chance so /shrugs
Savannah Guthrie is consistently the worst interviewer and least genuinely empathetic anchor NBC has. Every time she gets a big name interview of something important people want to hear about I question that choice. Kate Snow should’ve done it.
I remember when she had a reunion of the Mag.7 gymnasts, and didn't ask a single one of them what they had done since the Olympics. She is the worst interviewer on the planet, I agree. Hoda would have done better.
I think Zagitova should stay home regardless. She is exhausted, beat up and hurt (at least she looks hurt). She needs to rest, regain her technique and start next season fresh. They need to let her be for a hot minute. The poor girl looks so stressed and on edge, much too much for a 16 year old.

@@DrScarface74 which two skaters are you referring to?
Thank you SO MUCH
@@DrScarface74 That is how you treat the girl who has brought so many medals for Russia?
So true.
Liza said in interview, she is trying to do some transitions, but it's very difficult for her. There is a reason, why transitions get extra points and it's not like you add an extra move to choreography and you get more points. It makes the program significantly more difficult.
@@danielarifai3448 yes. She needs transitions.
All of this drama could have been avoided if only Kostornaya was a month older.
TheGogobooty it is not enough, Alena should be two mouths older.
Agree!
Oh yea, because it's so great to see every skater for one-two seasons and then being replaced. I'm starting to dislike this sport, really.😔
Tarasova was like a Cheerleader on the ice sidlines especially when Mevedeva was skating
👀😂😂😂😂
I heard her too while Evgenia’s FS😂
“Tuktamysheva because she had pneumonia, and Medvedeva because she had a terrible season.” -Dave
OOOOFFFF 😂😂🤠
Three minutes in and the sass is already unleashed. Much love for both!
Jonathan Polls where is the lie?
TheSkatingLesson No lies, just very blunt. That’s what I love about you two.
Yeah, I agree. She's tacky but in a fun way, the way I honestly expected Tuktamysheva to skate with all her sassy tweets
I enjoyed Sofia’s programs just because they were so different compared to the other Russians.
Liza and Zhenya both deserve to be at Worlds.
I'm not counting her out. I think she could just as likely win the whole thing as she could bomb...
I hope she does well. She’s great in practice.
Same hah it's really fifty-fifty@@lc4822
twistxbow it’s a shame. These girls are under so much pressure. They’re really good girls. I can’t imagine what they must go through
mish098aimer it seems to me that Alina practicing quads is making her technique weaker and prone to more knee problems, hence why she has problems doing 3+3 jumps now.
She's the riskier choice though, as she could still bomb everything.
also, controversial opinion: Tracy is brilliant with Evgenia and I wish she'd be her main coach. I wouldn't be mad at it.
#weneedatracy
Cornelian she seems to have a really calming presence, i agree. she’s so supportive and her interactions w med during RCF were wonderful.
I loved their repetoire! Tracy is awesome.
However still her jumps are pretty under and not got marked)
If she goes to the worlds - Don’t think she should be able to be on the podium. We have the Japanese Girls looking strong this season, Elizabet tursynbaeva who improved a lot this season, Bradie who had won Evgenia twice this season and Mariah bell who looks amazing this season.
Mi Lim nice copy and paste comment that I’ve seen already
@@user-dw9rf3tm8q Well i added more comments to this compared to my previous one :)
Agree !! Zagitova deserves her spot Liza too !! If 1 of them withdraws then it's fine that Evgenia takes that spot
@@kcesca where were the videos of her with alena and diana?
I can totally see her withdrawing. As in, they will probably name her, but it might already be a plan to make her withdraw due to injury or whatever. This way they wouldn't signal that they think the OGM is already done, but also they wouldn't risk her bombing in Worlds and give her time to recharge. Seeing how they propped both Zhenya and Liza as ready with the scoring in the Russian Cup, this might have been the plan all along.
Rika participated in the Challenger to gain ranking pts so she could be in the final group at Worlds
Angie Ng makes sense.
Tracey’s kiss and cry moments brought tears in my eyes. I love her. Always did!
Tracy is really winning a medal this season!
Inga Bulgar she may have been asking about the levels? Tracy May not have calculated during the program like Eteri does.
Inga Bulgar was just thinking that Tracy working in the media may be part of this as well. She likely does not want to advertise Evgenia’s flaws.
I kind of jumped through the time stamps so I might have missed something but EXCUSE ME, really not a word about Gubanova and her short??? God this girl is pure awesomeness
That girl is just straight up wuzrobbed all the time and konstantinova is completely her opposite in every way.
Agree. Her SP was fantastic. I watched it over and over again. She is “pure awesomeness” and keeps getting robbed before our eyes. Poor girl.

Alina has to go the world’s. I can’t imagine the Russian federation not sending a girl from Eteri’s camp.
#weallneedtracy let's get it trending folks
also, rika was there for the world standing to ensure she would skate in the last group at worlds, apparently. if that was in question then it makes sense as that's a big pcs boost.
@twistxbow What makes you think Bradie is a lock for that last group?
i don't think evgenia should go, even though i love her to death and do think that she should have won the russian cup over liza, because she still isn't at her best yet, and just needs more time. Tursynbaeva might also just land a quad sal and win lmfao. honestly, this year is gonna be so unpredictable. i honestly don't even know who should go
Mila Roberts do you think that that 1 quad sal could put Elizabeta in 1st? I honestly don’t know, considering Kaori and Satoko.
haha who knows, i honestly just put that in there because it would be so unexpected and hilarious
also satoko was great early season but has been slightly inconsistent and definitely seen as a second or even third to Rika
An unrelated note, but the British accents in that film were such a disconnect for me!
If you are, in fact, Russian, then I suggest that you educate yourself about your country's history.
i want Medvedeva to stay home and not be named. i'm afraid if Evgenia does poorly at Worlds, she'll lose her confidence (AGAIN) and be hated and blamed even more.

Feel bad for Zag.
Yes, Evgenia and the Fed knew before the Cup who was going, so it was all for show to tame the public rage.
Let it be clear that im here for what Dave and Jonathan's thoughts on that Gold interview.
Hope you appreciated the discussion.
@@TheSkatingLesson i appreciate every minute of it
ooooh, the stuff about with ghislain is really interesting. 🤨 i think evgenia could really benefit from working with him - her jumps have improved quite a bit but could still be a lot better. strange that she supposedly hasn’t worked with him already.
Is Eugenia decide with whom to work.
The dramatics of this season are so intense! I feel this Russian team selection is one of the hardest they have had to make in while. The pressure on all of these girls in so intense! Thanks for the post:)
Ps was Tuktamesheva on meldonium or some. Performance drug? What ever happed with that? Anyone know... Thanks:)
It has kept it exciting!
@@TheSkatingLesson I know right!
She openly idmited to using meldonium during 14/15 season. Meldonium is a drug that helps you regenerate faster. But it was not banned back then.
@@justynazokiewska8223 thanks:)
Agree... without Evgenia I fell there's no real worlds. I'll actually won't even watch it if she is not selected.
laura calix well it won't be a competition without Evgenia but I'll watch anyway 😊
Maybe they shouldn't be categorized by country, or there should be another system that is just the top point getters.
i think they should send liza tbh - i love evgenia to bits but i worry that the backlash from being named to the team + the pressure to do well there might do permanent damage to her self esteem that she’s finally starting to get back. she also still needs to work on translating everything she’s learned to competition - her 2 skates at RCF were fairly clean but the runthroughs were infinitely better imo. tracy even said that it’s going to take more time for her to be able to properly apply her new technique in competition. i think it’s best that she sits this one out. liza had a great season and she still has a few weeks to work on her conditioning before worlds (because her stamina did seem to be lacking a little which is understandable.) still hoping they send her to world team trophy though. i think it would be fun for her and a chance to raise her season’s best score.
I like Zagitova, but she didn’t defend any of her titles from last season.
You can't win every competition you compete in. You win some, you lose some
@@hannibaljustincase9985 True !!
I have a hunch Kim Ye-Lin will surprise people, and finish in the top ten.
Liza had a very good season. Funny that you think she can’t beat Satoko when she was third at the GPF and Satoko was sixth.
That was more of Satoko losing than it was Liza winning, tho. Satoko messed up the timing of her jumps, so they ended up ur, but i don't think that will happen at worlds, not to that degree.
@mish098aimer Elizaveta is a World medalist, too. World gold medalist.
@mish098aimer Satoko also has one of the most awful horrible no good jump technique which is constantly gets overlooked.
This was great, loved all the opinions and how you delivered them lol
So glad you enjoyed it!

Dustin Muniz I didn’t feel sassy! We did a two hour interview prior to this. If anything, I was tired and moving it along.
I’m ready for this episode
Guys, thank you so much! You do a great job! Love from Russia💖
I've been waiting all day to hear the announcement but I didn't expect such choice:
Stanislav Konstantinov , Alina Zagitova , Sofia Samodurova
Substitute: Elizaveta Tuktamysheva , Evgenia Medvedeva
RusFed really suprised me XD
Aleksandra Pałka this is preliminary, they can change that during next month in case somebody withdraws. They also announced three pairs for ice dance while Russia has only two spots in ice dance at Worlds lol so I doubt this selection as a whole
Yes, they said they didn't have enough time to make a clear decision so they submit the Euro team. However, changes can be made through withdrawals (why would someone do that?)... Lol! Everyone was arguing about Liza and Zhenya =))) We will find out the Russian World Team at Worlds... in the short program... who shows up is competing :))
"at this juncture" hehe I say that all the time now
Does anyone else feel like there are 2 types of skating parents: the kind that is all in and has their hands in every aspect of the skating (Danny Kwan, Arthur Liu) and the kind who step back and let the coaches, etc do the work (Kate Virtue, Jackie Osmond). Those all in parents tend to miss the big picture and can be too busy trying to capitalize on the moment both with results and financially.
Liu has taken it to a new level. I suspect there will be a lifetime movie in Alysa's future.
Am I the only one that thinks the more gracie does interviews the more pressure shes putting on her comeback?
Thank you so much for this video, you two kept me such good company while I was up with an awful case of the flu.
Aliev had done the super cool knee slide into the flip when he was a junior before. Glad he’s bringing it back~
PwT of course it was him! Obsessed!
@@JohnnyOpera1 that's how he got me obsessed in the first place lol
@@badmiracle which is why I think that he shouldn't go, for his sake too it would be better for him not to go
Excited for evgenia medvedeva!!!!!! 🤗🤗🤗 love the improvement in her programs
Maybe this is a question for a Worlds preview, but you guys kept saying Samodurova will most likely finish fifth or six - so who do you have beating her? I think Kihira and Miyahara are the best bets, but beyond them, I can’t see anyone as a sure thing.
Zagitova? Who ever goes out of Liza and Zhenya?
Casandra Leff we will certainly preview worlds and discuss this.

I can't wait. Here is something maybe you can address - I've seen it rumoured that Alina suffers from Osgood-Schlatter disease in her knees, but I have never seen anything official. Her Wikipedia page makes no mention, but it is certainly managed professionally, so I wouldn't expect it mentioned if they preferred to not make an issue of it.
(where as other mental illnesses such as depression or anxiety are more relatable in a sense, even though actual clinical depression or anxiety is very different to what a healthy person might experience, every one at some stage goes through tough times, and thinks they can relate, and the stigma is more about well I cope why can’t they)
All of this is to say I do not fault Gracie at all for sticking to the easy narrative, of any of us were offered a choice between a narrative which talked about having anxiety and depression and all the stigma (real or perceived) that carries with it, or the option to be like yes my life is wonderful right now and everything is better, and have people believe that I think most people would take the easy narrative, but I do really fault her manager and the interviewers for propagating these super harmful stereotypes,
Also I read really appreciate TSL calling this out, and actually doing the important hard work that actually reduces stigma and really makes the skating community better.
It would be great to see a documentary on Gracie's journey: past, present and future.
Gooooo evgenia!! 😍😍 exo-ls are here to support you😍😍
It was mentioned in the video (I believe) and in a comment that this is likely Zagitova’s last opportunity for worlds because of the juniors that will become seniors next season (I assume Sherbakova and Trusova?). Would this also be the case for Medvedeva next season?? This could have been mentioned in the video and I just missed it, so sorry if that’s the case!
Yes they did mention that this can be the last opportunity for Evgenia and Liza

You guys need to comment on the changes that were announced for the Russian team, what is going ooonn? Very unfair to Tuktamysheva!!
This episode was good but no talk of viktoria vasilieva who won bronze at Russian cup Final (and is in the thumbnail) and also no mention of Starr who won silver at Challenge Cup or Amber, who led the SP.
Yes, I actually thought Vasslieva outperformed both Zenia and Tukti, I would almost sent Vassilieva to the Worlds, Gubanova was also good.
Rahel Horvat Yes, but isn’t Vasilieva too young for worlds.. or no? Gubanova was great. A shame about the fall in the long. I think she should be given more opportunities... she’s always given the short end of the stick.
There isn’t always much to say. Amber is truly more of the same.
Absolutely correct, Rika looks exhausted and doesn't need to be at Challenger Cup. Let her rest for worlds, for heaven's sake!
Omg I thought I was crazy when I thought about Zagitova pulling out of Worlds with “an injury” .
The devil works hard but The Skating Lesson works harder...thank you guys for all the amazing content!
You're very welcome.
TheSkatingLesson Happy belated Birthday Dave! 🎂(saw on your insta stories:)
I've seen novice skaters on instagram look better than her (barring jumps, of course) 😬
can ANYONE explain why her elbows are always bent????? its truly so bizarre and unsettling
Her arms and body positions are not the best but I think she has persistent back problems.
Alina is going DOWN
Sofia is STEADY
Medvedeva is going UP
Turk is all OVER THE PLACE
Now who do you send?
In all reality they don't care about anyones feelings. They need 3 spots. And Medvedevas score is more likely to get that .
@asilem The problem, I think, is that if Liza misses her 3A and flubs some of her other jumps (whether in the SP or LP, or both) she could easily end up in 11th or 12th place. This kind of placement seems less likely for Zhenya bc her success is not solely predicated on how well she lands her jumps. This is why, between a skater "going UP" and a skater "all OVER THE PLACE," the former seems like the better option.
@asilem I think Liza is trash. I've never liked watching her I cant get through a single program with her. It's all ugly and boring.
Sadly they won't send her 😭
Does anyone know why Russia have so many National competitions?
Tutamysheva is SO labored with her 3A. Such a long entry and so slow. I think it kills the momentum of the whole piece.
She doesn't exessiveley prerotates and URs her 3A the way Kihira does. Of course, it looks harder.
A fear Russian team should be: Alina, Sofia and Liza, the others are seconds.
angela salgado Evgenia seems to be in top form now!
@theskatinglesson 1:16:10 It was Dmitri! At junior grand Prix Final (cant remember the year..maybe 2016)
Ok I'm confused. They said stick around for our interview with John Innman but then it ended - are they going to upload another video then?

Quad Russian girls will start growing next year, best of luck to them too. For me. I watch figure skating because of Medvedeva . Love her!
Asto Fiammata Evgenia has the longest winning streak out of all the Russian ladies, and now her skating technique is even better. Her artistry is also evolving. This season was a transitional year for her. She is back to her top form. Every single one of her peers could not put up with as much pressure as Evgenia has endured in her entire skating career so far. She is mentally and physically strong. A champion 💕
Stasya has a great PCS score and I love her artistry! Stasya is kind of a good skater.
Evgenia should go to worlds only if Tracy is there with her. Probably TAT too.
The skater with arthritis was Nicole Watt, who had the same coach I had growing up.
Desirae Graham yes! I believe she competed against Jenny!
Nicole competed from 2000 to 2002 in senior nationals. She did a couple junior Grand Prix events, a couple senior Grand Prix events (including 2001 Skate Canada in Saskatoon) and Four Continents in 2001. She tried to come back in 2008.
That overlaps with Jenny!
@@lenavinogradova950 no idea! The intrigue continues!
@@allybeetulk1457 it has now been solved, they chose Evgenia
And they are not changing their minds.
@@auraarzadun9127 how do you know?
@@rahelhorvat1471 unless they are in the federation they don't know. Nobody knows. Maybe it will stay the same as Europeans but why would they go to all the fuss of saying there is no time and pointing out that they can make changes if they aren't planning to? I would put money on that announcement being code for we will change this.
@@allybeetulk1457 this info was already entered into ISU World championship roster, I think it's the final call, meaning it's the final announcement.
We know what Access Hollywood is. We felt it was a bit of an odd venue for such a serious discussion. The program is typically quite fluffy.
Strangely, I found Gracie less edited and more "real" on "Access." The "Today" piece felt more rushed and restrained by morning show timing.
lawr17 I think Natalie is better at empathy as well!
I am so glad you mentioned Tracy comments on Medvedeva!!
Whatever will I do during the off-season... I will miss all these videos and this and that and analysis and discussions!!!!
We will make videos!
Konstantinova has been named to the World team. We can just not get rid of her. lol
I like Tiffany and Jonathan very much but I did lol at the fact his mother was an official.
Anyone not shocked about Gubanova being underscore here ?... she BY FAR had the best SP and I am quite sur she can medal at world....
Judges at Russia Cup put Medvedeva ahead of Tutk when it could have gone either way. I think they'll send Medvedeva.
very interesting, smart. I wasn't expecting such an expert psychological analysis and future prospects of Russian and American skaters
I think Zagitova should stay home regardless. She is exhausted, beat up and hurt (at least she looks hurt). She needs to rest, regain her technique and start next season fresh. They need to let her be for a hot minute. The poor girl looks so stressed and on edge, much too much for a 16 year old.
liza is the mykayla skinner of russian figure skating
difficult elements, overwhelmingly heinous form, outspoke on twitter about how dumbfounded they are that they repeatedly dont get selected for events
My favorite. Dave saying he’s been Nice. Why watch?
At 1:15:35, Jonathan asks who that Russian skater was with the SPECTACULAR FLIP ENTRY. Yup, it was Dmitri Aliev. Here it is: ua-cam.com/video/GHaZBOoZpOk/v-deo.html (he fell here, I couldn't find a video of a successful one... which probably is a big reason why he stopped doing that entry in his programs!)
ah, never mind... I found a successful one! ;) figureskatingexpert.com/difficult-entry-into-a-3f/
