- We recently headed out to the coast for some kayak fishing to chase coho, rockfish, lingcod, and halibut. We, unfortunately, didn't catch any halibut but got a bunch of other fish. We learned a lot on this trip and are excited to go back! The Hobie Outbacks are great fishing platforms for this type of fishing and the Kokatat drysuits are an important safety piece.

That's a great trip, btw where do you guys launch kayaks?
Good to see that those Outbacks are OK for the ocean. I'm in Victoria and am starting to think about it.
The revolution is maybe the most popular for the ocean. But the outback is very versatile
Another great video and trip ... 🙌
More to come!
Would be interesting to see the fly you were dragging for Coho.
Easy! Here it is! ua-cam.com/video/9EALmrqnDEc/v-deo.html
Looks like a great trip, Blake!
It was awesome!
Wow are you guys using Lancer jigs? Those seem pretty effective, are they worth buying?
I’m shocked by how effective lancer jigs are!!
I’m stationed in FT Lewis. I just recently bought a sportsman 106 with trolling motor. Do you mind pointing me in the right direction in Neah Bay so I don’t end up killing myself 😂😂
I highly suggest just fishing locally around puget sound and getting used to your set up before trying Neah bay.
Nice vid! That's a gray whale btw.
Not a humpback?! We had seen a humpback earlier so I guess just assumed it was the same whale or at least the same kind. Cool!
@@Gigharborflyshop yep, definitely a gray. Mottled body, no distinct dorsal fin, knuckles on the peduncle, and looks to be pretty close to shore. Individuals from the Pacific Coast Feeding Group often hang out around Neah Bay. www.cascadiaresearch.org/associated-projects/pacific-coast-feeding-group-gray-whales
Very cool, thank you! We're headed back Sept 9 & 10 so hopefully we'll see some more!
@@Gigharborflyshop No problem! J pod of the Southern Resident killer whales has been hanging out at the western end of the Strait recently as well.
Have you ever caught a halibut on the fly?! I've heard it can be done, but not seen it yet.
Had a guy with me get one in Tofino. But I’ve never gotten one
@@Gigharborflyshop that's one of my bucket list catches! I'll do some more research into it, but I'd love to book a trip with ya and give it a shot!
It was crazy because they were only in 20' of water. It was a 20lber and they released it.....which freaked me out a little bit! That's some good eats to throw back! ha!
@@Gigharborflyshop ha yeah those are the best eating!
