    I remember when people where saying Amorphages were gonna break the game, until people realize that the deck can fuck itself over

      Yeah, expecially Amorphactor Pein, we had a discussion on ygorganization and it resulted in a user getting banned lol

      At least in pendulums you can run Amorphage Sloth to stop special summons from the extra deck.
      But over-all the deck would definitely screw itself over.

    • @CloaksCosplays
      @CloaksCosplays 8 років тому +19

      Oh yeah. I saw all these pend effects and thought they would lock my opponent down, but the deck destroys itself turn 2.

      HeartlessWeegee2 unless you top deck Lysis AND Infection you're screwed because starting with both of those cards can lock down even a Blue-Eyes deck with the right scales and if you end up with two Infections on the field your monsters get huge while Lysis keeps the opponents small. Basically this deck is nothing but bricks and then that one lucky start

    I can think of a couple more:
    Zefra
    Konami themselves were hyping the hell out of this deck. It was a cool concept, Pendulum support for other meta decks that were also a part of their own archetype, but while the deck is potentially powerful, it just didn't take off, especially when the meta decks tied to it got hit.
    *EDIT: this comment is old. I'm perfectly aware that Zefra is decent now.*
    Igknight:
    Does anyone remember the Igknight hype? First people were freaking out because of the potential combo with Key Beetle, but as soon as CORE came out, the ruling said it didn't work. Certain YugiTubers (coughcough) were still pushing it because "it can make Exodia or a powerful Champion Rhongo", but all the deck did was set a scale, pop them, and grab another Igknight.
    Majespecter:
    It's a good deck, but people expected it to be top tier. We had just got Pendulum Magicians, and we were getting hyped for PePe. Overall, the deck was outclassed, it wasn't aggressive enough, and it didn't become top tier like everyone said it would.

    • @CloaksCosplays
      @CloaksCosplays 8 років тому

      Igknight was p good, metalfoes just took its place.
      Majespecter...idk Kirin got limited for a reason.

    • @dynamokota
      @dynamokota 8 років тому +9

      Igknight didn't really have a place for Metalfoes to take. They're not a *_bad deck_*, but they lacked a true win condition. They gathered a ton of monsters, but there wasn't a lot they could do with them besides going into
      Rhongomyniad.
      Kirin didn't get limited because of the Majespecter archetype, it was more because every _other_ Pendulum based deck could abuse it, typically Odd-Eyes Performapal.

      Nah dude.....I made plenty of awesome Igknight decks, one of which is a pure Igknight OTK deck, so they are definitely good. But, just like other decks traps are an issue...

    • @dynamokota
      @dynamokota 8 років тому +1

      I never said Igknights were a bad deck.
      My point was that they were overhyped.

    Red-Eyes. People were so hyped about Red-Eyes, to the point that it was too expensive to buy, yet about 3 months after it came out it dropped off the face of the planet. I'd call that an overhyped flop.

    • @ZeroStako
      @ZeroStako 8 років тому +3

      Still is expensive. Have topped with it. Just had a few wins with it on YGOpro. Not the best deck, I admit it can suck most modern deck's cocks, but still - not in C category. A B-deck for sure, and absolutely not worth the price. But the deck itself is full of holdbacks. I'm a dedicated RE player, it's my favorite deck, thus I realize it's flaws, like taking away my special summons with it's best cards, it being slow, not having propper tuners, etc. But the hype for it was never that big, at least when it came over here. I came back into the game for it, but from all the other people in my area, just one had made the deck and gave up on it. And then I got monarchs, because... well, monarchs cost 1/5 of Red Eyes and won 5 times more than Red-Eyes. But still, RE4Life, even though Konami doesn't want to make a it a main deck, even though it goes against the philosophy of Red-Eyes as a symbol. The idea was that it has potential, while Blue-Eyes has power. So sure, it has potential, but not the potential to win consistently.

    • @wargiam
      @wargiam 7 років тому +1

      tbh it was doing really well it is just that people saw the new blue eyes support and people rather play a deck with free summons and broken abilities rather than a rank 7 combo deck.

    • @autobotstarscream765
      @autobotstarscream765 7 років тому

      Stanislav Serbezov Didn't Kazuki Takahashi abandon "Blue-Eyes is power, Red-Eyes is potential" years ago when he created Blue-Eyes Ultimate Dragon, thus giving Blue-Eyes the biggest "potential" Fusion as opposed to the original symbols of "Red-Eyes B. Dragon's potential", B. Meteor Dragon and B. Skull Dragon?
      The Red-Eyes archetype as a whole eventually got a new identity as a Burn archetype that has basically stuck with it ever since.

    Here's my pick for the list, Majespecters. Everyone was like "OMG, can't be targeted, can't be destroyed by card effects and they are pendulums, they stop your opponent from playing the game so broke!" but in the end the archetype didn't manage to keep up with the meta.

    • @romkin1197
      @romkin1197 8 років тому

      Cause of most of their spells/traps that kept targeting, then Kirin had to be tribute summoned or used as a scale (Unless you used pegasus)

    • @LeAndre_McCoy
      @LeAndre_McCoy 8 років тому

      Majespecters were always meta, dude. They just weren't tier 1.
      You must not know how many play Majespecter in the OCG.

    • @arjanzweers6542
      @arjanzweers6542 8 років тому

      We don't play in the OCG, we play in the TCG. They may have been a succes in the OCG but Majespecters were dreadfully overhyped as the next top tier archetype for the TCG.

    • @romkin1197
      @romkin1197 8 років тому

      Especially since at the time the OCG didn't have Kozmo or Kaijus when Majespecters were released.

  • @baconsir1159
    @baconsir1159 8 років тому +18

    What about Majespecter? That deck was SO hyped. People legit thought that Kozmo would do poorly due to a poor Majespecter match-up (Which is ludicrous. Best majes match-up in the game).

    • @baconsir1159
      @baconsir1159 8 років тому

      I mean that it was very often held up with Kozmo and Monarchs as one of THE decks of the format, then topped a total of 18 times to date (15 of which were hybrids) compared to, say, Kozmo with 173.

    • @vparsa87
      @vparsa87 8 років тому

      actually as they said, being used as an engine doesn't count. Pure majespecters can't even get out Kirin without tributing for it.

    I have to agree to disagree on Harpies. They made a few tops and are really consistent ever since crossed souls. I never brick with them, by which I mean I always have the cards to drop an xyz every turn. Their combos can be stopped, but not as easily if you run divine wind. It's not the best, but it's good.
    I still think Amorphages were overhyped, as well as the nostalgia decks that aren't blue eyes.

    I like the playstyle of harpies, but when built well the deck has to be almost completely attack minded. The deck becomes shit when people try to be clever and tech stuff that slows it down.
    The deck is a swarm deck, if you're not spamming harpies like mad when playing it then you're doing it wrong. the Harpie decks that struggle are the ones that are obsessed with cards like Magical Hats, Anti-Spell fragrance etc. The game is too fast to main stuff like that. Against the meta decks (which are objectively better than you), you need to blow them away with summons and a quick swing with party/instant fusion/channeler to cause an upset, and quickly.

    Noble Knights may have had a really mixed hype from the player base but Konami made a big deal out of them at the time, atleast. Since they took that inadvertent 'tellah knight hit (RoTa at 1) they lost all alot of consistency, they brick and Excaliburn isn't a good card anymore. There's little to no recovery if you're opening up with Merlin (NK Lonefire) and it gets hit with a hand trap.
    Saying that they might come back for link summon format with Ties of the Brethren. Who knows?

    Idk what you are talking about, I still play Harpies, I used to only bust the deck out when folks came in trying to test or regional decks to straight up ruin their day, then it became my main deck. I just did a world championship celebration tournament this past Sunday and came in at 14th place with my deck. Considering I wad facing off against a bunch Dino/Yang-Zing, I'm proud of that fact. I was complimented (by all but one opponent) on how strong the build was and that they were surprised that Harpies was giving them a run for their money. The one guy was too salty that Red-Eyes Dark Flare Dragon pretty much single handedly ruined his day, he kept taking burn damage for activating multiple effects each turn.

    Hey, when it comes to artifacts, my best friend actually built an Artifact deck that became the stuff of nightmares. I helped him build it and i deeply regret it. What was worst was when he would topdeck five artifacts and a malevolent catastrophe, so you attack and all of a sudden not only is his backrow all gone, he now has a fully refreshed hand because of his caduceus, your monster is dead from his moraltach, your extra deck is off limits because of his scythe, you can't attack anymore because his Achilleshield is blocking, and he now has at least two 2k+ beaters on the field that he can XYZ with next turn. And that was just one of the many things he could do with it. Don't even get me started on the damn Volcasaurus spam. just remember to throw in a double cyclone and a twin twister and you'll be golden.

    yknow what would actually be pretty cool, if they released a level 3 artifact monster that is a tuner and when it is normal summoned you could pop one of your backrow, then maybe when it dies by an opponents card effect you can set one from the deck
    then make a scrap dragon like level 8 synchro monster that can get rid of the opponents cards by triggering your artifacts
    i think that would actually be pretty cool of konami to do
    maybe a second synchro where you can pop a backrow and if it was a monster gain attack equal to its attack, and have an armades like effect to prevent responses on attack
    i would love to see that

    the thing that flopped hieratics was the limmited RDMD because of chaos dragons the G. Max otk was easy and only need 3 cards but rdmd was ned at least at 2 for it to keep its strongest play at the time.

    I play Galaxy a lot myself, and yeah, it is stuidly easy to brick with like, multiple copies of knight and dragon that you just can't use. It's why I still prefer to keep in the main lv 4 Photon Monsters(Thrasher and Crusher) whereas most would be content to run only the level 8s and Wizard.
    Accessibility to 3 different Ranks of Xyz Monsters(4, 5, and 8) is likely the best thing about that deck, since sans 7 and maybe 3, those are like, the best ranks in the game.

  • @RomeoBarnes

    As a player who has played hieratics since the deck's release, i can tell you as a hieratic player you only use 3 hieratic effects and/or summon 3 hieratics when you know you will kill them through gorz/trag/fader, etc. This is why Koaki meiru drago and curse of dragon were important. Curse of Dragon gave you a turn 1 play that wasn't Atum or Bounzer. Not to mention Drago was a great normal summon against the format at the time. As a hieratic player maxx "c" doesn't exist they maxx "c" you and summon drago before going into the battle phase and win anyway. The deck sucks now because nothing can be targeted or destroyed and everything makes ridiculous turn 1 fields.

    I actually played Mecha Phantom Beasts; the deck has some good plays but its way too slow. It's one of those decks where if they just had like 1 or 2 more good cards then they might be competitive. If they had a level 4 monster that upon summon let you send another Mecha Phantom Beast to grave and a faster way so search/summon this hypothetical card, aside from Scramble! and Megaraptor then I could definitely see this deck coming back, a la Volcanics after the release of Blaze Accelerator Reload.

    I won like 4 of my locals with it. And it was pure. I ran equal spell and trap destruction to my artifact monsters. With 2 card car and 3 duality. Triple upstart. My whole deck was to make boards my opponents couldn't break. Both shields are the best stall.
    Again I loved this deck and worked it hard to make it great.

  • @Altyrell
    @Altyrell 7 років тому

    Another reason why the Harpie Decks really didn't 'succeed" is because Harpie Lady 1, 2, 3 & Cyber Harpie Lady were all counted AS "Harpie Lady" period. With 1/2/3, even though they all had the same Level (4 *), ATK (1300), DEF (1400), Attribute (Wind), & Type (Winged Beast), they all had different Effects. 1 - All Wind Monsters gained 300 ATK.; 2 - Negate the effects of Flip Effect Monsters this card destroys by battle.; 3 - An opponent's monster that battles this card cannot declare an attack during your opponent's next 2 turns.
    And then CHL was essentially a Normal Monster (It was stated to be an Effect Monster, but it had no actual effect at all, as I really don't consider "This card's name is always treated as 'Harpie Lady" as a legit effect.), 4 */Wind/Winged Beast with 1800/1300 ATK/DEF. So you could ONLY have a total of 3 of any combination of HL 1/2/3 &/or CHL, whereas if they were all either Errata'd or "Problem-Solving Card Text'd" so that they were more inline with some of the other Harpie Cards like Harpie Queen or Harpie Channeler, where their names get "treated" as "Harpie Lady" while on the field or in the Graveyard, then I would imagine that the Harpie Decks might come back.

    Igknights. I use em for Single Duels only now with Exodia (Heart OF The Underdog, Make Number 86). Zefra is another one that got hype from Komoney but sucked major ass bar Divine Strike and the YZ ones.
    Also Harpies didnt flop, they were average at best on release and in 2016 going into 2017, they have lots of recovery, power plays in Chidori and annoying Spam of the two best ranks in the game (I guess 8 would be btr than 7).

  • @AlastorNahIdWinRadioDemon
    @AlastorNahIdWinRadioDemon 6 років тому

    I have a lot of personal issues with Harpies in the fact that I do not play meta staples or anything with similar effects that don't need some sort of extra activation requirment and if they get that Rank 4 Monster out with some added Attack(700 to be exact) they basically win parring that I do get a Dark Hole or Mirror Force to hit it with XD outside of that, we generally play banned cards in my group so... mecha phantom beasts are very hard to beat if you really know what you're doing and you give them good support in a deck. I've beaten people left and right using them on ygopro
    and do a barrel is one of the best trap in the game because it can negate anything as long as a negation effect isn't already in play

    Would Yosenjus be considered this? I've heard a lot of hype for them, when they first came out, and they topped quite a bit of tournaments when they were first brought out, but after like one or two metas they've gone down to rogue tier, at best.
    Another, much more recent one, has to be the Burgesstomas; even before Treatoad was announced, everyone was so excited for these cards, thinking they'd be a better version of Trap Monsters... and they aren't. They're not bad, but the fact that they rely so heavily on backrow means that they're easily disrupted, and you've got very little options once they stop your plays.

    About hieratics they are coming back thanks to ultimaya also I have run them for over a year now and I haven't been stopped when summoning but even if I am my deck is filled with traps to defend me because I run 3 ultimaya so I can defend myself until I can flood gate or otk with galaxy eyes prime photon dragon.
    You don't need to tribute summon eset or tefnuit so having both in hand can let you pull off some amazing combos.
    Also hieratic rulers was a top deck and one of the main reasons for dragon rulers to be banned
    Sorry for the rant. I just thought I'd say some things about hieratics cause I've seen some really good deck builds and I haven't really had many losses with my own so it made me want o defend the deck, don't get me wrong it has its own issues but what deck doesn't

    1 - Red-Eyes - I love Red-Eyes but the deck flopped hard, a lot of people where hype for it but it never became meta just second tier and now I think it went down.
    2 - Amorphage - Alot of people thought this archetype was going to break the game but it's too slow, sure it great in late game but alot of decks nowadays are too fast for it.

    • @enriquestowers1189

      Red-Eyes flopped because most of the monster support it got are all gemini monsters (which is stupid), have no tuner or synchro monsters and the entire archetype seem to focus around burn damage. Lame. As for Amorphages, I agree with you on that. I once built a deck with it and I absolutely hated it.

      The absolute best card for red eyes is soul charge but unfortunately it's limited to 1. load up your graveyard play soul charge get out at least 2 red eye flare metal dragons and your opponent takes 1000 for basically everything they do and they can really only be destroyed by battle or ha en it's summon negated

Igknights had that semi-consistency and the help of normal monster support, but ended up not being that great in hindsight. They still ended up being pretty good against grindier non-pendulum decks and were kinda that buffer ushering the power of the pendulum in comparison to other decks.

    I agree that they did not live up to hype I just needed to defend them as not being garbage just not being consistant.
