  • Nepenthes are very good at showing you when they are not happy. It doesn’t take long before you can see an issue with your growing conditions. In this video, I highlight seven of the most common issues, how to tell them apart, and how to treat each issue! #chmcarnivores #nepenthes #pitcherplants #carnivorousplant #tropicalplants #rareplants #exoticplants #houseplants #indoorplants #carnivorousplantcare #plantaddict #urbanjungle #plantsmakepeoplehappy #carnivorousplanthelp

That has been my experience for sure. I’m sure someone will give me crap for saying it lol. It looks like Odema but the actual spots aren’t raised.

Hey! The leaves for most species/ hybrids should be a bright green. If the plants are getting too much light they will turn red and in severe cases will get burn spots. If they are getting too little light the biggest sign will be drooping leaves. It can also manifest in failure to produce pitchers and stunted growth. Most of these plants like 60% shade as they grow in cloud Forrest and other similar habitats so they are more tolerant of indirect light.

I have recently got that red colouration after moving my plant from a cold kitchen window to a warm office tank under a growlight, to improve light, temperature and humidity... I think it was getting too little light before. Is it possible it will adapt to this more preferential light amount over time? Or is it just way too much? I'm also wondering if the red spots are stress from moving and changing the environment so much?

Hey! It may end up getting used to it. You might want to slowly increase the light exposure if possible. The red spots are more than likely sunburn from exposure to the brighter light. Keep an eye on the leaves. Turning red isn’t necessarily a bad thing depending on the species/ hybrid but if the sunburn spots get worse and/or the leaves start to dry out or wilt then I would move it out of the direct light.

It's a Spectabalis x Veichii. I made the mistake of assume all CP like VFTs needed a winter, and left it in my cold, fairly low light kitchen through most of winter. Some leafs are v.red and one is dying back, but to make things more complex and harder to tease apart, before the tank arrived a cat took a chomp at them while it was in the office for the warmth and light 😅 there's plenty of new growth with no malformations get, but plenty of blush. I guess if the new leaves dont blister/get red spots, and continue to pitcher (I lost all of them from the cold kitchen 😭) I can assume she's happy and leave her be

That is a pretty hardy hybrid and should make a good recovery spectabilis can tend to turn red naturally so you will see some of that from its parent. Yeah nepenthes like to by in the same conditions year round. They get cranky when moved. However they are way tougher than people give them credit for. Keep an eye on it. Let me know how it goes and keep me posted. I am here to help!

Hey! This can be a challenge for sure. You can you Captain Jacks Neem oil and it will kill it. Prevention is tough and it is one of those things where you have the weigh out the pros and cons. Algae means very good temps and humidity. One simple prevention, while not perfect. Can help is make sure that you have bright light and a lot of airflow!
