I absolutely love Manley. I have other Vari Mu compressors but I would adore a Manley. The sound of the transformers is precisely one of the reasons I love the sound so much.
Nickel - Steel alloys are used for the smaller transformers while mainly steel is used for the larger power amplifier output transformers. Bobbins are deployed in all winds. my favourite talk about the trans issue to date… 😂 Sounds great too. my first gf wound those circular ones for dynacord power amps and powermate series in production line, back then.
A 1:1 transformer primary impedance will reflect the same impedance to the secondary. Reach out to Tech Support from our website www.manley.com for more help with your Manley gear.
The preconceived snobbery in this industry makes me laugh. When I was shopping for a tube amp I checked out a dealer who carried a competitor to Manley. When I mentioned I was interested in the Snappers, he laughed and said why do you want those thin sounding things. Really ? Needless to say I didn't buy anything from them. When I got my Snappers in my system they just opened up in such a natural, dynamic way I knew they were keepers. EveAnna talks about the bass capabilities of the transformers, I can attest having arc welder solid state amps in my system that presented bass with slam but lacking texture, more is not necessarily better, the Snappers do bass like you hear it live. I understand there are some folks out there that will never consider tubes ...Their loss, these amps are amazing. ua-cam.com/video/EjI46Db-5l0/v-deo.html

Someday I’ll have my Voxbox and more…Love what you do Manley🤘
What core material do you use for very low level (eg, MC) and line level transformers? Are they layer wound or bobbin wound?

Was that manufacturer Sowter by any chance?
Correct. We used Sowter transformers in the early 1990's before we set up our magnetics production in-house.
I wish there was a manley Parts dealer in The Netherlands
