    As a finn, I suggest you have a shower next to the Sauna. You dont want to run back to the house for shower. A drain is a must in the Sauna so it can be cleaned easily! PS we often build the sauna cottage before we build the house..lol

      Ohhh thank you for these tips!! Really useful to know. We were hoping to integrate a shower somewhere, just haven't quite decided on the location just yet. Have you got any recommendations on what's the best way to power it?

      @@RestoringNumberFour wood fired saunas produce more radiant heat then electrical saunas and have deeper sense of relaxation. Wood burning sauna stove are cheaper in use most of the time. Some countries or cities might have restrictions for wood burning stoves. So you need to check before buying.

      I think the plans are a nice balance of office and garden. Just looks lovely. I love a lovely garden full of plants and a bit of grass to lie on and ground/meditate oh and a place to hang out my washing! Or maybe you will have a pulley in your utility. If you dont know what a pulley is it is a Scottish word for a drying rack that is attached to the ceiling that you can lower and raise on a rope. It might be a Glasgow tenement thing though and you need a decent high ceiling for it to work. Rambling now!

      @@RestoringNumberFour hey 😊 I was researching building a traditional outdoor one myself (with a wood fire heater) but came to realise that the wood, heater itself, and glass door would cost just as much, if not more, to build. So as that sounded like such a fun project for me, I decided not too right now and it’s winter where I live, too. (South Australia) I settled on buying and infared sauna. I got a Kylin 2 door one on special for $2.3k. (Carbon infared) It hasn’t arrived yet! Ideally I would have liked an electric heater one, but I live in a rental and it’s an old house, I don’t want to cause any electrical problems. I’m hoping that in the spring time I’ll be able to build an outdoor traditional one and I’ll slowly collect bits & bobs to hoard for the project in the mean-time. 😊 I think for your channel it would be amazing to build one and show the viewers, but nether the less, buying one would be less work and I think just as good. 😊 So many people build their own (as I’ve seen online) and they all look so good! There’s lots of handy tips on Reddit, too. If you look on there and type ‘sauna build’. 😎🤓☺️😊

    A sauna in the winter sounds lovely. I've never been a big sauna user, find it too hard to breathe in them, but I very much like the idea of them. The nicest one I've used was on an island just outside Gothenburg (Sweden) with a beautiful view of the ocean. So if you can, a nice view while you sit in there is a huge plus. So perhaps a window facing your garden instead of the fence. Then you can enjoy the view with a nice cold drink in your hand.
    If you're worried about people looking at you, a two way mirror/window might be an idea.
    Speaking of windows, the green one is my favourite.
    So you've traveled to Sweden? Which places did you visit?

      Hey! Thanks for your views on this. We did visit a sauna in Sweden but tthe locals came in and made it soooo hot we could not handle it haha. We went to Scandinavia in our campervan a few years back but we spent to much time heading north through Norway that we did not leave enough time to see much of Sweden on the way back down ha. Now with Brexit we only have 3 months in EU, so time is limited and then our van broke down in Swedish Lapland and we were stuck in one remote town for 5 days, which was interesting. Have you spent much time in Lapland?

    Don't bother with a sauna, the novelty will soon wear off, the cost to run will be high, and it won't add value. It will inevitably break and need fixing. More than half of the year, the weather isn't nice enough to use outside space, so bigger inside space is probably more practical. More garden equals more gardening.

      As someone living in a country where the number of saunas is higher than the number of households (Finland) I can tell that the cost of building a sauna isn’t much higher (it’s just timber, installation and the stove) and using it once a week doesn’t make much of a difference in your electric bill. The only thing that can break is the stove if it’s electric but they usually last to 20-30years. Wood-burning stoves last forever.

  • @Adameriksoderberg
    @Adameriksoderberg 3 місяці тому +1

    It is inspiring to see you keep grafting and creating a home fpr yourselves!
    I would have to disagree with those saying that you should not add a sauna. With that being said, unless you get a good stove (having a wooden stove with stones on top is always a good bet) you might not enjoy the experience as much and then in the long run not use the sauna as much.
    You should be able to build the structure for the sauna yourselves, just make sure to do some research regarding the insulation and what wood to use on the inside since this will ensure you get the best experience.
    As a Swede who has also lived in England I would say that you, same as us, have the perfect weather for a sauna. Sure, it is great in the wintertime but also imagine a rainy cold summers day when you can sit in the sauna and then just step outside to cool off in the rain. Plus, hitting the sauna can really help with clearing your head after a busy day. I say go for it!

    Just curious, and you obviously don't have to answer, but when you say it doesn't cost that much to rebuild the bathroom wall - could you give a ballpark amount for the cost? I have no idea what that would cost, also considering you're knocking the old one down and probably saving on cost that way. I'm looking to buy/renovate in a few years... any info is helpful!

      Hi Jess! No problem at all - so our builder costs 220 a day and it took him two days to do. Materials were about £800. We are really lucky that our builder is happy working the way we do (we supply the materials he turns up when he can). We did have quotes from brickies which would have been £1500-£2000 + materials, so it really depends on who you have available to work with!

    I think there's too much going on in the garden with all the different shapes and colours and differences in material. It seems like space isn't being used to it's full potential, especially with a pond right in the middle.

      @RestoringNumberFour  3 місяці тому

      Hello! You are correct! The renders are not true to how the garden will look at all - it's going to be full of plants and trees etc. The renders were just to show the actual workshop 😊 we discussed the garden layout and how we want it to look in episode 5!

    I really love the second stained glass window but I think number one is best for the bathroom. It’s really pretty as well.

      We are leaning towards green for the bathroom, so makes sense to follow through with green stained glass, or too much of the same? 🧡🧡

    Considering so many walls and ceilings have been demolished and also their state was not the best, wouldn’t it be easier to just tear the whole house down and build a new one? With all the modern amenities like proper insulation, new electrical, ac/ heating, Ethernet cables etc
    Maybe they explained it in a different a video that I didn’t watch xD

    • @RestoringNumberFour

      Hey Pedro, Thanks for your thoughts! If this was a detached house this would certainly be a good point to debate, whether to rework and preserve the history or to rebuild to deal with problems. But as we are a terraced house there is no realistic option to knock down an house when we are connected to other peoples houses. So for this house project the logical option is to persevere in the method we are doing, but its good to chat about it! 🧡🧡

    A workshop/studio/office is definitely worth doing. One of my neighbours has one as an art studio and another neighbour has theirs as extra space for their teenagers. Our houses are about 700 sq ft so adds a lot of useful space. If you really want a sauna go for it if within your budget.

      @@RestoringNumberFour the art studio has a real wood exterior and the teenagers one I think is fake wood. I prefer the real wood one but of course you need to maintain it which might be difficult if right against the boundary.
