Hah. I was born in '73, seen a lot of games. I've "heard" of this game's title before, but this is literally the first time I ever actually saw it. Weird, having known of a game from that era yet not ever encountering it. It's so distinct and different from other games, too.
This is basically a Gauntlet-like game. Some people say it's similar to Motorhead on the Amiga, but Motorhead is a beat 'em up game in the style of Golden Axe. The only thing the both games have in common is using guitar as a weapon.

So, what songs can people name from the background music? The intro seems original, as does the boss levels; but the gameplay seems to have a lot of existing songs. I heard "I Want To Hold Your Hand" and "Born in the USA." This guy: retrovania-vgjunk.blogspot.com/2014/06/rockn-rage-arcade.html finds "Like A Virgin" and "Rock Me Amadeus" as well. Note: As the songs are not credited in the game credits, they were likely not paying proper royalties. Hint: The first song in the gameplay is NOT "Round and Round" by Ratt.
I just play that looks pretty cool and resembles allot the motorhead game in amiga,good stuff by konami.That company always had a special way to made those games.

The Video Rental Store near my school had this machine in the early 90s, it was good fun, but not as good as the Double Dragon machine they replaced with it! Nostalgic memories of many misspent lunch times!
Ugh, of course the only female in the band is the one who gets captured. Looks kinda cool but...sigh...such typical crap - (male lead and any main female character either has to be the role of "damsel in distress" or is relegated to sidekick) in the guise of an original rock 'n roll adventure game.

i think games like this much more fun, more of a cartoony feel to them. 80s were a great time too

Perhaps just not in North America. Rock'n Rage was likely a "world" region release, which generally excluded Japan, US, Canada and Mexico.
