How come human population has grown if there is reincarnation? Answer is from the animal kingdom. Journey of the individual soul (Jiva) from the animal to the human to the divine. Occasionally, the journey may be reversed for whatever reason. Classic example given in the Hindu folklore is the story of Jadabharat and how he had to take birth as a deer because of attachment even while living a life as a hermit.
