Why does the pilot keep the canopy open for so long before take off....He had it open all the way to the point he was starting down the runway. Maybe the airconditioning doesn't work well in those older planes until they are up in the air ( that's all I can think of)....

Yuma is very hot. Especially in the summer. The F-5 does not have adequate bleed air at ground idle to provide any climate control.
