Toni has one of the weirdest filmographies ever. She was also in an Elvis movie, The Monkees' bizarre LSD-fuelled "Head" movie, "Myra Breckinridge" with Mae West in her first movie since 1943 and second-to-last role ever, Dennis Hopper's "Easy Rider" and "Last Movie", and - to top it all off - she played a fortune teller in a second-season episode of "Baywatch". And she once played a character named "Mickie" in an episode of "Laverne & Shirley", years before she became famous for the "Mickey" song.
All of that completely pales compared to her career as a dancer and choreographer. One could write a book about American pop culture from the early 1960s to now by using her life and career as the timeline. Plus, she seems to be an alien time traveller who doesn't age.

That "light sleeper" joke needed more Sigourney Weaver from Ghostbusters.
And all the cool stuff they could have done with a location like goddamn Alcatraz if only the plot had any idea of what to do with itself. I mean, using the location as the ritual site to open a portal into Hell using all the negative spiritual energy from the cruel men who served time and died there? Instant good plot. At least the title of the film is cool.

@@TheHorrorGeek I really love that series, and I've watched most of the episodes at least a couple of times at this point. I think the longer, in-depth, historical format with a sprinkling of your own anecdotes is very effective. (Which isn't a dig at the shorter, jokier format of Sick Flicks - which I also love!)
But, yeah, I get that it must be very time-consuming to research and write those episodes. As a university prof, I always dread teaching a new class for the first time because I know how much time I'm going to spend putting the lectures together. That said, once I've taught a course a few times, I can mostly re-use the old lectures - whereas you're under constant pressure to always come up with new material. Content creation is hard.

Definitely great for 80 years old! I would say "Hell Yeah!", but will keep it clean! Loved this film as cheesy as it seemed, even in 1989 when I saw this. Deviant Behaviour class? Damn, my school was boring, no deviance for me! A Fulci-esque scene? Bonus! Awesome review, especially the "Gargoyle establishing shot"!

I know this wasn't a sick flick by any means of the word, but for some weird reason, the movie always stuck with me. Maybe it was the Devo; who knows. But I do thank you for covering it!

This review reminded me of Rockula from 1990. That movie stared Dean Cameron, Toni Basil, and Thomas Dolby.

Just an awesome episode Mike! I wonder where Donna Denton went. Absolutely stunning and had some chops. I’m going out on a limb and guessing married to an incredibly rich entertainment lawyer with a monstrous home in Bel Air and a 5000 sqft “getaway” on Lake Tahoe.

Good freaking lord. The cover art makes me think of fright night. Your review makes me thankful that it’s you watching and not me. As per (mostly) usual, I enjoy your review infinitely more than the movie itself!! What is it Lance Henrikson has to say about the narrative again??

Two "Baywatch" alumni in this movie. Toni Basil and Hope Marie Carlton.
Because everything in American pop culture is somehow connected to The Hoff, one way or another. "Six degrees of Kevin Bacon" used to be a thing. That's baby stuff for rank amateurs! How about "four degrees of David Hasselhoff" instead? That's how the pros get down and boogie, son!

I remember the TV Spots for this movie when I was a kid. I was oddly interested in this film. Unfortunately, I did not see it until I rented on DVD like 20+ years later.
For some reason, I thought it was going to be a Rock / Heavy Metal vibe like Trick or Treat.....but....it was something else.
