How I Clean The Mess UNDER My Bird Feeders!

- If you decide to feed birds in your backyard, it's necessary to clean underneath your bird feeders periodically.
Luckily, it doesn't take very long, but this chore is easy to put off for months at a time. I try to tidy up about twice per month.
In this video, you will see my cleaning routine for all the waste, food, and other seeds that accumulate underneath my bird feeding station.
In addition, you will also see me scrape off some old food that has accumulated on my ground tray feeders. You can purchase the tray feeder --- geni.us/TrayAm...
If you want to prevent such a mess from happening at your bird feeders, try using "No-Waste" birdseed. This type of seed won't include any food that has a shell so everything has already been husked and hulled, leaving only the food that birds will eat!

Thank you for doing that so we can enjoy all the birds and animals .
The birds and animals are so lucky to have you!
Could you please do a video (if you haven't already) about what type of ground cover is best for bird-feeding stations? Pea gravel? Weed-control landscape cloth covered by rocks? Just bare, unwatered dirt? Thank you!
I have watched you do this . You do a great job young man. Thank you for sharing.
Oh look, it's bree -the cat- !
You're welcome Bree! Thanks for helping so much with the live cams. We are lucky to have you. :)
I'm currently developing an edge for my simple, yet powerful tool, to sweep & rake better, but even the way it is, I believe my tool can save you time & effort cleaning up feeder waste, and more. I am nearly 9 years into the patent pending process for my silent leaf blower, plus a whole lot more, and I have a long way still to go before the world catches wind of it.
I put mulch underneath my feeders, and then add more mulch on top of the existing mulch when it’s time to clean underneath the feeder. Which is about once every 2 months when things get gross, and compacted.
That is a good idea! I have been using paver sand that I put down every so often.
think its crazy that I have been feeding birds for years wondering why the grass is dead under the trees never knowing sunflower hulls are toxic. All the things I have read and watched over the years have NEVER mentioned this. Last year I noticed when I moved the feeders because we had to chop down the tree I had them on. It has ruined the grass. So no more shelled sun flower seeds
".. for the Love of .. Birds!!" 😄 and critters 😉. I take it Mr Alien doesn't do windows, or floors 😂. No help there.. fun video, thx 😄👍🐦👐
I’m going to do it tomorrow morning. Thanks for sharing. Great video.
Nice, informative video!
Great video. Thanks for posting!
I have a huge boulder in my yard so once a week I need to hose it down🌻👍
Nice legs! 😁 Seriously, I wish I had a compost pile. I just scattered small bits in areas at the edge of our backyard.....
Ok I missed what you did with the load in wheelbarrow 🤔👍👋
He tells you at 2:30
What exactly is the material underneath the bird feeder? I have river rock with weed guard underneath. It's gross and I have to change to something else. What do I use? No matter what...weeds sprout up everywhere even when using no-mess bird seed. The birds deposit a lot of mess. I'm physically limited and don't have the agility you have unless you want to come to my house and do all that cleaning up...I'll pay you. I'm considering using pavers which I could sweep off more easily. I love watching a whole bunch of goldfinches hanging all over my wired tubed bird feeder.
Great Job 👍
Do you not have to worry about disinfecting the trays to ensure there isn’t disease spreading?
my feeder is over rocks & I pour boiling water over the area
I bet you wish it took only as long as this video to actually do it!
My birds stopped coming due to moldy seed.
I guess the plastic 10$ bird feeder wasn't the best option after all l.
What do you do with the "mess"? Plenty of insects and others would be grateful to eat it.
I throw it out.
Do you put gravel or mulch down to keep grass from growing there?
No, black oil sunflower has a chemical in it's shell that prevents other plants from growing. So after awhile you won't see much growing around the radius of your bird feeding station.
@@BirdWatchingHQ Really!! Okay, I need to buy some :D Thanks!
What is the surface under feeder? its not dirt ?
It's a sand material.
@@BirdWatchingHQ so not just sand but a sand-type mixture? can you link it in the description?
@@brycestrong8195 I'd like to know too. I was considering "pea gravel" to use under my bird feeders. Not sure if that's a good idea or not. Also not sure if the sand in this video is safe for the birds and other animals that feed there?
hi. did you give the trays a bleach clean off camera ? is it necessary ?
No, I did not use bleach off camera. When I do clean the tray I use a vinegar with water mixture. 1 part vinegar 2 parts water. and I do think it is necessary.
Nice. But i think I would have worn a mask with all that animal dodo dust.. ya I know,, we're all sick of those things. LOL
What is the point in showing people what to do
When you haven’t got the camera on you showing what you’re doing
Waste of time
