The movie is sooo underrated Critics bash the movie because the character of Walter being too over the top but this woman who knew how he was in REAL LIFE said he was exactly like that how can you criticize someone acting like the person acted in real life? ughh i fucking Hate Critics some times they don't have fucking idea
Overexageration is usually cringe but in this movie it REALLY works well. Even if Walter wasn't like that in real life, at least it helps us see how he seemed to behave in Margaret's perspective. The anger and helplessness felt throughout the movie gets amplified. As far as I know I don't usually get very emotional over movies so yeah.
Such a wonderful artist...!! I watched her movie today. I can see how her personality and kind heart would make her a subject of manipulation, control and abuse. So glad her work was eventually recognized. It's upsetting to know that Walter never went to jail for deceiving the whole world and stealing from her.
Quite a story . May she rest in peace . I wish that back when her husband was stealing her work and forcing her to work 16 hours a day that she instead would have started telling him that her hand was starting to hurt and cramp up and that she couldn't paint as much ... that way he would have gotten less work out of her to steal . And I wish that while he was out selling the artwork she would have been talking to Gallery dealers and proving to them that she is the actual painter and not her husband .
I'm a Jehovah's Witness and I wanted to watch this movie just because I like Amy Adams and the movie looked interesting WELL when the Witness popped up I was so surprised. I'm so glad she's a sister and the movie/real life story took a turn I wasn't expecting. It turns out my family and I have had a magnet of one of her painting of paradise on are fridge for years. Even says KeenLook (one of her distributes on the back). Movie was even better than I though.
Thank you Mrs Ronaldo713. In Hawaii the friends had plates. They said she was lovely with her talents and knowledge of the future. I have a rare painting either someone copied on canvas of a Big Eye. I remembered when the paintings were everywhere. Now is the time to learn how to paint with all of following the instructions we have been told from New York. Its a pleasure to see your post.
This movie was great as witnesses aren't in many movies and im glad they didnt take out the witness part as that's an important part of her story! I also am a witness and enjoy art so this is a real interesting painting
When I was a kid back in the sixties a lot of people had her artwork in their homes ... the prints of course . We had one of a little black and white tabby cat looking straight out at you with those big sad eyes .
We always ask brothers and sister, "so how did you come into the truth?" It awesome to watch a movie showing how one sister become one of Jehovah's Witness. To hear Jehovah's name on film is a rare delight. :)
Bless her heart she’s been through so much she come to know the truth and now she’s helping others to know the truth about God bless your heart Margaret may Jehovah God bless you I have always wanted one of your paintings I got one I don’t know how I got it through stuff somebody gave me but you have always been a wonderful artist great pictures I love your artwork you’re awesome I absolutely love the movie too🥰🙏💜💙❤️💕💕💕💕
I feel like an idiot because I didn't know this story before now. I just watched the movie "Big Eyes" and it wasn't until the end that I realized it was a true story. I immediately came to find information online and found this video. Wow. Thank you so very much for posting this video. Now, I HAVE to find one of her paintings and buy it.... IF I can afford one or even a print.
At least you're the inquisitive, curious, "seek it out," type. These are the best kind of people (in MY opinion). That means you're not mentally lazy like a lot of people these days. Seek, and yea shall find (the truth).👍😀 P. S. By the way, Love your name.😉😃♥️🙏📖
When I was a kid in the '60s so many people we knew had her prints in their home and we had the one of the black and white tabby cat with the big sad eyes
I was locked up for 20 years in Texas penitentiary and in that time I became a professional painter but she is always my favorite and I asked this day do not know why I'm just happy that I got to see this thank you Margaret
after revealing her story, im positive you can outline alot of Margets feelings at 1955-1965 in her paintings. the yellow girl in here feels like she is sheltered from the world in a clastrophobic way, Like marget herself wws during this decade, Im sure the "tears" in some paintings mirrors her own tears, not to be able to take credit for her art.. i can imagine how much her inner emotions must have been in a foggy state at that moment. Im also, sadly, after watchin BiG Eyes has a though of what if... It was the 50s, it was a mans world, and if Marget sold her painting from start would she ever gained the publicity and fame as Walter did? I feels wrong to even think in this way, but I still can't let go what good this (fraud) did for womans status. As after 1965 this painting had a world known reputation and Marget just walks out and says,.. it wasnt a man made thing, its a woman made thing. I also get a feeling the whole paintings by Marget during 1955-65 reprsent her marriage with Walter... as she being the lonely girl who cries but can only tell the horrible truth throughout her eyes. It was just one of world most twisted mystery, in my eyes.
Just bc he made them popular doesn’t mean he made the paintings themselves. Maybe she wouldn’t have been as famous, but she would have ownership of her own work without lying and being abused….which is more important ??? Fame or your own sanity and rights ??
We had a print of one of her paintings of children and animals in Paradise hanging in the overflow room at our Hall, and it was so eerie looking! However, the more I saw it the more it grew on me! I haven't seen the movie as yet, but I am looking forward to it!
I read your story, (in the Awake, I think it was), years ago. Can't wait to meet you in The New World Sister Keane. Maybe you can teach me to paint. Right now I struggle with "stick figures"! I very seldom go to see movies anymore, but I'm looking forward to seeing this one. Take care sister, D.
Margaret Keane is my stepmother. I am so proud of her I could burst! I know my dad is looking down from heaven, with a big cigar in one hand and a golf club in the other, just bursting with more love than ever for her. I can't wait to see the movie!
I used to adore your paintings when I was a very young girl i used to see the paintings of the bigeye puppy dogs and kittens and young children and I used to adore them I got one of the paintings on the yard sale and still got it but I always remember them in the store and I always wanted them I thought they were the most beautiful his paintings I ever saw Especially the animals because I love animals
First time I have seen this video. Margaret is such a lovely person inside and on the outside. I so enjoy her art work. The Complicated Lady is one of my favorites. Would so love to visit her gallery and meet Margaret Keene and chat with her.
I have always loved your art ❤️ I can feel your passion and love of children and animals. The way you capture the pain or feelings in the paintings of women is extraordinary 🙏❤️
After all the evil that she's endured, she is an incredibly beautiful soul . God's blessed her immensely and it's great to see her so happy She is in LOVE with the LORD! As it should be
I remember the Keane gallery near Ghiradelli Square in S.F. Once I was singing in Maiden Lane (near Union square in SF) and Margaret Keane had a show at a gallery there. I think it was around 1970 and someone commented to me that Margaret was sketching me. At that point I couldn't care less, but NOW I would love to have seen what she did with me and my costume and guitar. I always wonder if there is a big eye portrait of me floating around somewhere. What Margaret went through with Walter is not much different than what many women went through in the '50's. Glad she finally sued him.
I remember as a young woman thinking your works were done by your husband. I just cannot believe that he took over your life, making you let him take accolades for work you did! I guess I am a very strong woman. NOBODY would do that to me. God bless you.
Oh my goodness I just love this video you’re my sister my spiritual sister I found that out later I couldn’t believe it bless your heart girl bless your heart Jehovah love you🥰💕
I got that picture and I always love the big eyes always bigeyes and the children the guys and the kittens bigeyes and the dogs I love them all as a child I’ll never forget it it was my favorite🥰🥰🥰🥰
Just watched the movie, Big Eyes, I remember these, and like Margret been living in Hawaii for years. I'm from San Francisco so the movie was an interesting mix of times in both places. And as an artist I drew a lot of parallels. However, I don't think I'll ever move back to the city. Too many of those gallery types who pose.
Her art really does have merit...It's lovely. The public loved it but the art critics were absolute snobs. From the movie I especially loved the painting she did for the 1964 New York World's Fair......

She seems like such a sweet, kind soul. So talented.
May she rest in peace she died at the ripe old age of 94
She was painting big eyes before anime made it cool.
Big eyes were everywhere in 1960s. Anime copied it

This woman has a beautiful inner spirit that radiates outwards onto her paintings. Viva la arts!
Thats so cringy ViVa La ArTs
Margaret Keane isn't the first woman this has happened to. Men have been taking credit for the achievements of women for centuries. :)
Rex Mundi i'm sure it does but it happens to women far more, and once we fix this, we may concentrate on the others
Sadly :(
Sadly :(
Right? Breaks my heart every time she says "I was weak" in this interview. Honey you weren't weak, you were just being abused :(
Albert Einstein as an instant..

well, I mean they thought they are critizing so...but yeah it can't be precise.
I believe her. Abusers are that bad. It's one of the main points of the film.
Such a wonderful artist...!! I watched her movie today. I can see how her personality and kind heart would make her a subject of manipulation, control and abuse. What an amazing story. The movie is a must see, I think one of Tim Burtons best:)
I saw the movie yesterday and it brought me here ha ha . Just an amazing story

@YasQueen205 we don't judge poeple on there sexually but we don't support the movement either.

As you know, JW is a religion that puts men over women. How could she remain there after what she had been through?
No one should steal anothers work as their own, I'm so happy for Margaret Keane and her daughter.
If I had the money, I'd love to buy some of her work, it's truly amazing
I think the prints are cheaper
When I was a kid back in the sixties a lot of people had her artwork in their homes ... the prints of course .
We had one of a little black and white tabby cat looking straight out at you with those big sad eyes .
I went to see the movie today and I highly recommend it. Great movie! Very inspirational! Way to go Margaret!
Thank you Margaret!
I love going to the Assembly Hall in Casa Grande and seeing your paintings!
Saw this movie three times, as each time wanted to take others to see it as was so good, and put J.W.s in a favourable light.
We always ask brothers and sister, "so how did you come into the truth?" It awesome to watch a movie showing how one sister become one of Jehovah's Witness. To hear Jehovah's name on film is a rare delight. :)
" The truth'.....HAHAHAHAHA, that's hilarious!
"So...how did you hear of this cult meeting?"
I always loved her Big Eye art for many years. I saw one in my friends apt. I feel so much when I see them... Such lovely art.
My mother had a couple of her prints hanging in our living room,as a young boy I had some strange attraction to them
She is one of my favorite artist, and I am so glad she finally got what she deserved as an artist. What beautiful unique paintings.

Is it just me, or the girl in the yellow dress at 6:03 has 3 hands..
Yup. 3 hands. Looks like someone is grabbing her shoulder from behind.
It's her shadow putting its hand on her shoulder because she is worried. The black cat is there to protect her.
