One aspect of Doc's virtuosity that is not mentioned that often is that he hit each note clean as a whistle and clear as a bell. Marvelous tone. I can't think of any other guitarist that did it so well.
@@ZenithQuinn I agree with that. From every interview I’ve seen he’s a genuinely nice person and his guitar skills are definitely in the realm of players like doc, rice, and Chet.
"So I worked on it". For any human being to get this good at something, yes, they have to have it in them, but they also have to "work on it". RIP Doc.
I was lucky enough to see him twice. Many years apart. In the early 1970’s playing with Merle in a tiny storied venue in Bryan Mawr Pa and then many years later in 2005 with my son near the end of his career. Oddly, almost the same exact thing with BB King. Both had incredible guitar skills and voices that were beyond what mere mortals could even dream of. All incredibly memorable experiences with two artists that added so much to my world and the rest of the world.
The WORLD is a better place bc of Doc Watson! He brought so much joy to so many ppl. If u haven't yet learned of him and his music, please give it a chance, it's life changing!
@@reddevilrust2024 lots of people disagreed with his assessment of himself, including Bill Monroe. A title is less meaningful when bestowed upon oneself.
I had the good fortune to see Billy Strings in Winston Salem last night and his whole show was Doc tunes for his 100th Birthday. He picked with his band and Molly Tuttle, T Michael Coleman, Jack Lawrence, Wayne Henderson, Bryan Sutton, Wyatt Ellis and Jack Hinsel Wood for almost 4 hours. Not something I'll soon forget.
I kinda wish Doc would have used an upright bass player instead of the electric bass guitarist. It just sounds a little artificial and out of place with Docs acoustic.
Don't even mention to me that Robert Johnson made a deal with the devil bullshit. Looking at Doc, if that story was true, he must be the devil himself. Bless your soul Doc, say hi to Jesus for me.

I absolutely love the music but a dude with a woman's hair-do is a little bit strange.
I absolutely love this comment but a dude with a women type of opinion... Well you got where i was going with that Dude was blind with amazing talents and the only thing you seem to be sticked on is his goddamn hair

Chet atkins is one
Glen Campbell was pretty articulate for as fast as he was.they all were great but there def wasn’t a lot of guys on that level, then or now
After seeing this, I will no longer say yes when people ask me do I play the guitar.
just learning, myself... that's my story and I'm sticking to it 😊
I'm sure that would be the exact opposite of what Doc would've wanted.. be not discouraged, but inspired 🙏😊
There'll never be another like Doc. Beautiful person and a behemoth of a musician.
billy strings comes pretty close
@@ZenithQuinn I agree with that. From every interview I’ve seen he’s a genuinely nice person and his guitar skills are definitely in the realm of players like doc, rice, and Chet.
He makes it look so easy..The greatest flat picker ever..RIP..
Doc was one of the most amazing musicians that ever walked the planet! He is now playing before the Throne of GOD !
"So I worked on it". For any human being to get this good at something, yes, they have to have it in them, but they also have to "work on it". RIP Doc.
The man changed my life. It was never the same after the first time I heard The Black Mountain Rag.
Yep, Circle album and Doc, I was done for. Trying to play his stuff since.
Doc Watson was a transcendent musician. His music always sounded ancient and contemporary at the time.

Nothing like watching a Master at work.
This man brought so many so much joy. Thanks.
Merle was no slouch as a picker, by the way. Just great, wish there were more of these on YT. Been a Doc fan for decades.
Clean and sweet as water from the living stream.
Doc is the benchmark of excellence in flatpicking guitar!!!
First time I ever heard Doc and Merle playing together like that, both on the tune. GREAT!
Damn! I'm going to practice now.
If only music went this direction
Fantastic. Doc has always amazed me with his style and impeccably clean chops.
It’s great when someone finds exactly what they’re supposed to be doing…and does it,masterfully.❤️
Bravo! Your were the man! Flatpicking at its best!

Missing U Doc. Such a fine human being>
Great musician, but an even better man.... sure do miss you, Doc!
Amazing that he was blind and was still the best Guitarist that ever walked the earth
That stuff is timeless
Just fiddling around on his guitar.
The WORLD is a better place bc of Doc Watson! He brought so much joy to so many ppl. If u haven't yet learned of him and his music, please give it a chance, it's life changing!
I just started listening to Doc Watson and I’m very glad I did.
Doc will always be one of my favorite artists of all time 💕💕💕
Now that's a guitar player!
Saw him play 5 times while he was alive.
Doc also had a fine voce.

I'd of course heard OF him, but unfortunately never got to see him in person. Yes I kick myself often
Thank you Joe
Love and miss you Doc

At 1:25 how does he get that "chiming" effect on the chords?

The king of bluegrass
Sorry my guy....Jimmy Martin was the king of bluegrass. Doc was the king of mountain and folk music.
@@reddevilrust2024 self-proclaimed king of bluegrass. That was Jimmy Martin.

Who is sewy I hear all the time in bluegrass and country ?
It's how you call the pigs in to be fed.
Bassist going as hard as he possibly can.
❤️
Like to find his Railroad Boogie where he plays with rounds with a few other guitarists including his son.
Merle looked like he was on fast forward!
Yea
2:40
Sometimes I wonder if that face contains that idea that he set his own tempo too high haha
I cant believe he can set the tempo so high on a song that's already so fast to begin with
If there were no Doc, there would be no Billy Strings.

Which tunes are these?
Heli0sophist Thanks Bro
Black Mountain Rag, followed by a 2 song medley of Sheep’s in the Meadow/Stony Fork.
It's about music, not hairstyle dude....
Gabe sounds strangely female to me, now I think about it; )
