- NASA launched its Psyche asteroid probe on a SpaceX Falcon Heavy rocket Friday, setting off a five-and-a-half-year voyage to a rare, metal-rich asteroid that may hold clues about how the cores of rocky planets like Earth first formed. CBS News space analyst Bill Hawrood has more.

Voyager 1 and 2 have been out there for 5 decades… and trust me, people are still keeping track of their progress.
This is how my children's children will be able to start space mining companies on outer moons of habitable planets. This is going to change everything once again.
Good luck to your children's children with their mining companies!!!
Wow.... This is crazy! Space mining
Fantastic technology.... a big step forward to understanding more about asteroids
Here's the other point, folks: The better we get at traveling to and from metal-rich asteroids, the closer we get to economically-viable asteroid mining, and the closer we get to economically-viable asteroid mining, the less we have to wreck our own planet for the minerals we need.
So your idea is to mine at a premium and at billions of dollars? Hilarious.
@@lextacy2008 Funny how the repeated "economically-viable" just flys over your head😂
Remember, cars were at a premium before the Model T, and even after it came out, it wasn't viable for about 20 years outside the cities due to unpaved roads.
Hopefully you changed your haircut at least😂

Right.
He's daydreaming again,... or still.
Thank you for not talking during the launch 🚀 😅
That's awesome, damn it reminds me of INTERSTELLAR
dang thats cool
Curious why they didn't show the twin booster landing; the most impressive part.
Good point
Perfect machine. Perfect work in the world Perfect team in the world Perfect mission. Thank you very much my friend.141023.
Aptly named, no doubt
That female reporter sounded completely clueless.
😂
Yep. Lower the hiring standards.
Her pool ball analogy was kind of there, except the pool balls have enormous gravity and you want to get the small pool ball barely touching the big one at just the right time. Which is the slingshot from Mars
Finally we are going back to work
Yah, thanks to Space X!!
Could the metal be gold & silver??
No it's mostly iron/nickel, far more valuable material wise
Very little gold floating around sadly 🤩🤩
Yes, Psyche has platinum group metals as well, though mostly it's iron nickel.
It's lucky people are so dumbed down nowadays that nasa can dupe people into thinking this thing is gonna be mined and the metal brought to earth
Has there ever been footage of the Whole Earth getting smaller while the Rocket heads out ?
You can see it in this launch too.
yes...?
Maybe it will be made of precious metals.
SPACEX, you hacks, launched a satellite
Awesome, I remember Buzz Aldrin (still with us) and the Apollo program. The Right Stuff. No other country in the world has the assets and scientific expertise to do this. Like a lot of boomers I wanted to be an astronaut. Wish they were still planning manned flights. But that's impossible in this economy. I think there still inconclusive about evidence of life on Triton. That's
the unanswered metaphysical question.
So we are going to drill a space rock but cant drill for oil or get hostages. Will this stop the weather also or no
This mission won’t drill anything
Only 2 persons want to know what you think and 1 not at all. 👏
7:30 SQUIRREL ,,,zoom.into engine and see it,,🐿, 🤣
They could not do this without Elon Musk.
gold ball in moon pocket, old man
SpaceX lauch, not NASA
Baloney
Yes, Mr. Musk POSSIBLE, Boosters came back down, landed, and ready to go on another mission!
boosters
Wow!..who believes this nonsense?
How many homeless vets could that money have housed?
None bc all the money would've been laundered lol at least we can see this happen
How many homeless vets could the tax cuts for the rich have housed? At least this serves a purpose.
I am in the space industry and also a vet and possibly wealthy but I worked my behind off getting here and don't want to give the lazy my earnings. We can do both if we would just close the border@@paleogreg7427
@@paleogreg7427 collecting space rock. Pfft
Housing homeless vets is not a financial problem, it's a political will problem. Don't let anyone con you into believing otherwise.
I don't know what you've been through in this life or the mistakes you've made, My Lord Jesus, I come to the world to save his children from perdition, he is willing to forgive the sins of those who repent and believe in him as the only Lord and Savior of their souls , just open your mouth and invoke his holy name , because GOD so loved the world that his son would die for all who believe in him ✝️ 🇮🇱
