Ive listened to this version a gazillion times and it always tears me up with emotion. Im sure neither Gordon nor Viola fully grasped the full impact that their musical gifts would have on people, even long after their own passing. The magic of music and song!
I met Viola at a club in Miami called the Waterfront back in the 1980s. I miss her beautiful being. I feel so lucky to hang out with her. Along with my other favorite singers that performed in south Florida; Evelyn Thomas and Pamala Stanley.
What great memories this song and artist hold for me. Saw her several times in Dallas at Jugs, Village Station and Throckmorton Mining Company she was so underrated as a singer. What an incredible talent and voice. Miss the days when music simply made
This song is a monster hit. My mother kind of music,I enjoyed it as well, still playing in parties died in 2009,i inderstand ,she was ill,Rip Miss Viola Wills🙏💜
Makes me cry, the memories of being such a lonely child that it brings back. Love hearing it again now. Great lyrics. Viola is just a stunning performer too. X
For those who were not of age in the era, the sunset of disco, San Francisco, gay culture at its peak, pre-AIDS crisis - this embodies that time - perfectly. It was an amazing time to be alive and Viola would pack the dance floor - a gorgeous goddess beckoned you to dance.
This song reminds me of a night at "San Juan San Juan" disco in old San Juan Puerto Rico when the dj shut all the lights off and started this song with a hand across the keys
I always liked the song sung by Gorden Lightfoot, but when I heard this disco version of it at a gay bar in L.A in the late 70s I liked it right away, and I don't usually like remakes. I remember being on a flight from LAX to ATL, I had recorded it on my Walkman. I played it the entire flight and never got tired of it. I happened to think of the song tonight and found it online. The song brought back some great memories, but it's that plane ride to Atlanta that stands out the most. The internet is great huh?!
I love this song. The first time I heard it was from the movie "54". But I just found out that Viola was the original singer for this song. And to be honest to you people I love Viola's. I just read the comments and I saw that someone wrote that she's dead. I'm sorry for the family. Great singer. R.I.P Viola..🙏🙏🙏❤❤❤
Actually, Gordon Lightfoot did the original ballad version. Ms. Wills did the first dance version. Look this title up and add disconet. THAT is the best version EVER!
She is gorgeous and very good voice and though who intrest to listen to song it is my favorite song and singer it's a meaningful of love and good understanding metured loving people
One of the few cover versions that's better than the original. I could go on and on about this song. This is a big big song. A timeless classic. As long as there is music this song will forever be played
I like this version, but it's not close to Mr Lightfoot's original. It's a song he wrote about his marriage falling apart with his first wife, it's not really meant to be an upbeat disco song, it's a sad tale of how he felt at the time. This is a decent cover, sung well, nice disco vibe, but cheapens the deep and meaningful original.
Realmente amo esta portada. Ella tiene una voz tan maravillosa. ¡Gracias por publicar! I really do love this cover. She has such a wonderful voice. Thanks for posting!
I only learned about this song 5mins ago after doing some great reading about Mr. Gordon Lightfoot, the writer of the original song. The backstory on the origins of the song is rather heartbreaking. Infidelity led to his 1st marriage ending in divorce. Gordon Lightfoot was a real treasure!

first time lve heard this version have you listened to stars on 54 version? all amazing but for me the original will always be best 🎉
TOTALLY AGREE friend..❤

I agree, she was great.

A terrific song by a terrific singer. Fantastic!

I have been a Fan of this Beautiful Song! First time to hear Viola Willis sing the Lyrics that "Blew Me Away"!!!
Viola was a master songstress. This is still a great song.

Seriously tho, love Viola Wills, she is amazes me.
The original makes you sad! The disco version makes you happy 😊
She is so beautiful and talented. I recall this from Ice Palace 57 in NYC.

Actually the original singer composer is Gordon Lightfoot

@@macdolfaquino8229 ..But I love Viola singing it. And nobody it's going to sing the way she did..👍👍❤❤🎶🎶🎼
Gordon Lightfoot with the mellow original version, then Viola with Disco then the Trio with techno/house/disco of 54 theme
Gordon Lightfoot, girl...
Simply wonderful
So understated but incredible - both the song and Viola herself.
Have you heard the original? Gordon Lightfoot reflecting on his divorce?
And yet Viola's version is understated?
@@BroonParker this is not the original 😲
Recuerdo de los 80 muy linda, tenía 19 años hoy tengo casi los 60 tiempos hermosos !
Tour De Force!!!! Viola Wills's Voice is Transcending!!!!

It's good but Gordon Lightfoot's is more moving
naaaaa
@@DjNikGnashers But Gordon did say that he approved of this cover. To me...that's high praise.
DEFINITELY NOT as grand as the original, but not too horrible.
Beautuful songs love it❤❤❤🎉🎉🎉
This is such a powerful rendition. It is so moving.
No. No, this is objectively worse than Gordon's original rendition.
One of the drag queens finest songs on stage. Hi LBTGQ
When this playing you got to be on the dance floor
Wow what a powerful yet heartfelt cover
