I like how everything improved the 2021 MT09 except the looks. I sold my 2017 MT09 and I really miss that engine. So glad Yamaha didn't go crazy on the looks for the 2022 XSR900! This is an instant buy for me!

this is One modern classic bike that I would love to Own, all the improvements that they have done from the previous model are huge.
I got a 2016 XSR900 and I'm still a happy camper.

That triple is a beast. I’ve own a 2015 FJ-09 with the CP3 and It was always a blast of torque, power and reliability! Zero problem. I switched to maxi-trail (ST XT-1200es) in 2020; best bike ever! Yamaha means… everything. Great channel, mate.

Being an owner of the 2016 xsr and gutting literally all of the futuristic stuff for more of an 80s heritage styling, I am so appreciative for this analysis. I'm glad that Yamaha is taking the platform in a different direction, and now wish that I didn't have to spend almost 3k in modifications to make mine look and perform like what is now coming straight off of the assembly line.
Excellent video, particularly liked the rider fitment guide at the end. Very complete information, I too consider the new XSR to be much better judged stylistically and well featured, a very nice machine although an extra colour choice might’ve been nice but the blue is pretty sweet.

I like the engine improvements, the frame, the tft screen and the wheels. Dont like headlight, hate the seat, hate the exhaust and dont like that the small aluminium rear mudguard is now gone. For the look of the bike as a whole, i prefer the look of my current xsr9. I'll look forward to seeing it in the flesh, but from the pics i cant see me upgrading to this new one.

I own the previous model and agree with you. The old looks more clean and minimalistic, and the engine is simply awesome. The new is cleaner? I do not care, the old one makes 65 mpg driving normally and that is fantastic. The TFT new screen looks superior and the 2022 model has control cruise, end of the story.
@@josevi5835 the only real reason to change is the newer MT frame is fucking amazing, extremely firm, and refuses to pogo stick but as long as you don't push it the old ones are awesome

Its not just about hte exterior. Look at the TECH included in the 2022. 6 axis IMU, cruise control, improved traction control etc etc. Doesn't even come close to the previous generations. That alot is a reason to upgrade.

I think the reason this dude likes this bike is because he was at his prime in the 80's. My parents weren't even born during the period the bikes I like where being produced. Call me a hipster all you want but I have an appreciate for the classic style. I still want something that rips like the newer bikes. This has lead me to the custom scene which has cost me more time and money than I care to admit. The XSR900 used to be the one bike I'd trade my custom Harley with a performance engines in for. I guess I'll just have to find XSRs made from 2016 - 2021. In a way I guess that makes them cooler knowing they're limited edition.
Had an XSR700 and loved it, did loads of mods, always fancied the 900 but not enough. I'd have the new one in a heartbeat.

It needs a painted cover on the pillion seat. I would also like a color matched lower cowling to cover some of the pipes. I agree on the cruise control. Should be on all bikes that have throttle by wire.

Holy run on sentence
At 182cm, finally I 'fit' the XSR. In 2016, I was disappointed when I sat on the 900, I felt like I was perched on it. The 2022 model has addressed all the issues I originally had and virtually changed everything compared to the 1st model. I much preffered the Kawasaki Z900rs but it simply is no match for the package that the XSR900 is so I stayed bikeless through the pandemic. The timing from Yamaha is perfect, although I will seriously consider a repaint in Kenny Roberts Yellow/Black block pattern and possibly chrome a few bits, and polish that Deltabox frame & the swingarm to break up the amount of black. Please explain what made you feel different about sizing from the gen1 xsr? I'm 180 cm and currently own a 2020. I feel a little snug in the legs and was looking at the new model, but when I saw that the seat is 20mm shorter, I felt discouraged.

Great changes on the frame. This definetly means there will be a R9 model where this type of frame is even more useful. Same goes for Tank and Swingarm design. Nice comparism!

I looked at it and instantly thought "i wonder what it would look like with clip-ons and a full fairing?" It would make a nice road sports bike, now that the full fat litre sports bikes are getting more and more track focused.

That new seat is HIDEOUS! though I believe it's hollow so hopefully someone will come up with a nice looking replacement seat. I still prefer the looks of the old bike :-)

Great video. I didn’t notice all of the styling cues until you pointed them out. It is a really great looking motorcycle.
Small correction about Yamaha's crossplane crank design. All inline-triples are crossplane (except something like Triump Tiger 900, which has T-plane)
We used to call them 120 degree cranks, before the marketing men got involved :-). Also early Jota triples were not "crossplane" cranks, they were 180 degree :-)
@@uhtred7860 It's what I mean about inline triples is that you don't even have to bother mentioning a triple being "crossplane" or with 120 degree crank. It's a given without saying.
When there is a difference, like in Tiger or old Laverda it's better to point it out.

At first look l hated that seat/ back end but I’m getting to like it more and more, helped by all the changes you so entertainingly show.
Always fancied a triple, and love Yamaha- first bike a FS1-DX , sadly restricted.
The new bike has evolved a lot in terms of aesthetics and proposal! I always thought the old version was kind of weird. The new one hit the nail on the beginning of the 80's proposal. Abraços do Brasil.

That's the very thing that attracted me to buy the older one it's quirky looking and different the new one looks kind of generic I wouldn't buy it
I remember the end of privateer F1. Kenny Roberts on the OW and Freddy Spencer on a NSR lapping my Fast by Gast H2.

I had the first xsr (60th anniversary edition) it handled beautifully, i love the look of the new one too. I will have a test ride as soon as i can.
Everything is great except I really prefer the previous subframe that complements the headlight brackets

I agree with you on cruse control. All motorcycles that are legal for freeway riding / motor way should come with cruse.

Great review. The styling may have more "authenticity" as you mentioned but I don't agree that that translates to greater value. I think the more neo-retro styling queues of the previous XSR900 gave that motorcycle a market and nostalgia factor. I personally think the tank and the seat on the new one, while more authentic just doesn't look good in all the pics and videos I've seen so far. Looking forward to seeing it in person though.

I own the current version of the XSR900 and I love it, it never fails to make me grinning under the helmet when I gun it.
I might get the new one in 2023 if it comes to Thailand, I like it as well. Huge improvements all over, looking very much forward to reviews.
I have a 2017 model I also love it ..I prefer the looks to the 2022
Excellent video. On first sight of the two bikes side by side I felt that the new model had ruined the look of the bike. Yet , as you honed in on the individual changes, in each case I preferred the look over the previous model. In many ways, it's similar to what Ducati have done with the new Monster.

O, this is a really good "working on bugs". More wide frame part.. really looks like it came from good old times. I don't know why, but I remember Honda VFR 400, when looking on this frame. And rear part looks harmonious, without this big "knee". Bike obviously ceased looking like a surprised puppy.

Thank you , for me this is a very informative video looking at the design choices amongst other things, rather than just the next "spooling down stats" clip. I quite liked the outgoing XSR 900, but prefer to have a Euro5 bike. So I grudgingly tried out the 2021 MT09, loved the riding feel, and came around to liking the insectile look. And then this beauty dropped. The high contrast gold-and-blue paint scheme initially looked a bit shtronk, but it has grown on me. I will order mine for next season this week, let's see what the delivery time is to Europe...

Fantastic video, I liked a lot how you represented the ergonomics of the bike depending on the size of the pilot.
I own the previous XSR 900 and I simply love it. Now I have a real problem because the new one is stunning too!!! I would buy the 2021 model if I had the money... but I would not sell my current one.
Both are incredibly nimble and offer the best value for money. By the way, this engine is superb: sounds exciting, fantastic low, medium and high revs power, low consumption (65 MPG), different configuration (three cylinders) and it is reliable. I have heard that this bike is not for beginners, but I do not agree. Engine is so versatile that you have torque at all revs range, brakes are stunning and suspension and stability make the bike easy to ride. However, suspension is stiff and seat hight (830 mm) could be a problem if you are

l really liked all the differences you pointed out except the new seat looks off but l get what they re trying to do ,classic rear cowl look . l do prefer the old new frame appearance compared to the 2021 model much cleaner /stiffer too .l love the BLUE /GOLD COMBO TOO

Excellent content and production. I too prefer the new model over the old. although I would want to fabricate a cowling to paint and cover the rear seat matching the tank and also reinstate a traditional sized round headlight. and a bikini fairing , but that is I guess because my preference is classic race bikes. The swingarm and frame are huge improvement the old model looked too much like a robot on a rowing machine (very busy). You articulate the subtle changes well. Subscribed.

If I could change anything about this bike. It would be that the CP3 Motor would use a T-plane crank “actual cross plane for a triple” like the new tiger 900. Those T plain triple‘s just have a much better sound to me and have even more grunt in the low range. Plus they sound more like a cross plane motor. Very akin to the MT 07 and MT 10

I like that it doesn't look like a transformer (as opposed to most of Yamahas latest bikes). In black it looks really nice. Just wish they looked at what kawa did with the Z900RS seat. This one looks extremely thin and uncomfortable.

Nicely argued. I'm an owner of the old model but really believe the RD350LC homage that is the Velocity Moto XSR900 shouts 80s way more than this new model.

I like the bike but wish they had increased the fuel capacity. I really want a street bike that can do at least 180 miles before the fuel light comes on.

I liked the black out version . The seat would be gone and I hate the headlight brackets still . I would look for a light cowl for it . And since it was to be retro definitely looking to change the pipe and remove the license plate and relocate more up to the fender .
