It’s an auxiliary effect. The big deal was squeezing a wide screen image into a 35mm frame of film, back when it was about $10 a finished second to shoot 65mm film which was the original format for wide screen film production and screening.
I absolutely love the build quality of my laowa. I have a laowa 25mm f/2.8 2.5-5x - It is a special lens yes but the build quality is absolute on top. ;)
I wanna see these on the X-H2S in open gate 3:2 mode. With a slight crop you'll be able to get a 2.39:1 CinemaScope look using the full (almost) sensor!
I’m glad this exists for short films and what not. What’s goin to be weird is seeing you tubers use this for standard content when it doesn’t add any storm value.
Amazing how small and cheap anamorphic lenses have gotten, but still can't beat an ISCO red + taking lens for sharpness and clarity with exceptional anamorphic feel. Even the Vazens cant compare. Unless you go Atlas or Arri Masters, the ISCO is the only serious way to get actual quality anamorphic without mortgaging the house :D
Oh man. I'd love to see what these babies look like on a GH6 in EF mount with a speedbooster. Shooting in 4:3 anamorphic mode you should get something similar to 16:9!
These are designed for mirrorless mounts, the EF/PL mount versions have a protruding rear element that makes them physically incompatible with speedboosters and SLR-cameras :/ Could be a nice combo with e.g. the X-H2S in 3:2 open-gate mode, destretched you'll get an almost 2.4:1 cinemascope aspect ratio.
The 1.5x squeeze is better than 1.33x but is it enough? I have the Vazen 40mm 1.8x squeeze and it gets the job done, but you could buy this whole set for the price of that one lens.
So Kai are we going to talk about the the panoramic medium format camera you have in the background? hope to see a video on it soon! would really love to see some slide film on a Lightbox : )
Damn you Kai, you rich smuck! did you just have your new nanomorph and the Sirui 50mm T2.9 on a janky wooden table standing up on the mounting side with no protective caps on?!!! Your killing me xD
@Kai W At the risk of teaching my grandmother to suck eggs, do you know the origin of the quote "Offerings to the Gods of Speed" on your tee shirt? I'm disappointed that the only response I got was from a scammer pretending to be you! :-(
Well Kai, OK not completely, butt Thorium is metal so at least part metal lens. At least in some vintage sometimes yellowish nice glass, sorry metal. Do I usually spell Butt, Butt well it depends what butt.
price is a bit much. considering Sirui has about a hundred models that are cheaper. And you don't have to deal with crowdfunding nonsense. (really crowdfunding should be prohibited for established companies)
The hell with the flare, I just want to leverage the maximum amount of photodiodes for my sensor. It is incredibly annoying that they are marketing towards people that are bedazzled by the stupid flares. I don't want additive colors to my lens... Absolutely ridiculous
Sure, you could do all of it in post, but some people just like doing the real thing. There's a reason that the latest Batman spent hundreds of thousands of dollars to get Arri to reduce the resolution of their anamorphic lenses.
@@Leonsimages Inserting oval apertures cut light though. And it sounds cheaper to get it right in camera than edit in post. A few hundred thousands is nothing much for a big budget film.
@@professionalpotato4764 Sure, the oval cuts light, but when using spherical glass, you can start with a faster aperture to begin with, so it basically equals out.

I would say that the size is pretty average. Anyways I bet it got a good personality

It's very small and very convenient for me to use the gimbal. This is a very interesting review.

they just announced a silver flare option
I changed my order from Amber to silver !
This lens looks like it has swirly anamorphic bokeh.

I’d love to get one of these for a Canon R7.

@@Leonsimages aaaaah right. Forgot about that. That's too bad! Thanks for the info :)
@@MaxHuisman gah same here. Was so excited to slap this on my gh6 with speed booster but really bummed that won’t be possible
The EF mount versions won't work with a speedbooster, apparently. There's a rear projection that doesn't allow it to fit.
Heard the EF version can be used with Z Cams and their Turbobooster so you'll get the extra stop as well
"That's the worst disease you could possibly get as a filmmaker" 🤣
They just added a silver flare to their lineup...what are your thoughts on that vs the other flare colors amber and blue?
Dunno about Kai, but that's the one I'm getting.

What is that RC car with a canon ? looks cool
DJI Robomaster :)

Still waiting for the 40mm EOS mount 2x Anamorphic for sub $1 000.
And I'll probably have to continue waiting indefinitely. :P
Hello, you see the new silver version ? What do you think about it ?
I am more interested about the toy car… what is tat?
DJI Robomaster :)
Is putting a uv filter do kill the flare effect ?
Definitely would use the 35 and 50 with a C70. I am just infatuated with that cine camera.
Why would you upload this video letterboxed?
If only Sony would release a firmware update to enable open gate on my A7S3 I'd be in heaven.
Is this full frame lens or apsc?
It says super 35 on indigogo.. soooo APS-C?
They're designed for crop sensor cameras. Aps-c, super35, and M4/3
Craig is right, it's designed for Super35 camera sensors, which is roughly as big as APS-C.
Does it cover FF Sensor?

Awesome & Thanks :)
Im thinking of getting the 27mm for shooting Panoramas :D Smart or shit idea?
I prefer fake anamorphic for my family vacation videos.
Great!
ah, these are APSc crops only.
I would love to se a pancake 20mm nanomorph for panasonic(m43) for shooting everyday stuff on my GX800

i guess it's premature
For me it's neither flares no bokeh. I want distortion like Wes Anderson has. Lowa has nothing for me.
интересный обзор 🤩👍👍
Pain in the poo pipe
Wang of a lens!!! ahahaha
hypebeast? sooo 2010. get with the times
So for the low price of 1000 bucks I can get an "artistic" imperfections lens for what I could have just as easily done in post. No, thanks!
You're throwing away resolution by cropping though. It's a waste. And you can't make the bokeh balls oval either, at least not easily.
@@professionalpotato4764 You can insert oval apertures though to get oval bokeh.
