    Great video, currently using XTS2500s for LOS but I had not heard of the ISM band before this video. Would love to see more videos on employing comms in the field, communicating with a team, radio etiquette, implementing a PACE plan etc. Thanks again for the quality content.

      Thanks for your comment, the 2500’s are great radios. I will definitely give you guys more field oriented videos!

    They work good on a cruise ship, much better than a 4 watt uhf radio.

    Love to see a breakdown on the range. 15k on one watt? Okay, please do a google map terrain overview.

      Will do in future videos! Pretty open desert terrain. Slopes down/up between the two points so it’s clear LOS & unobstructed fresnel zone.

      I have made it over three miles away in a hilly city and hit one of my DTR410s from a DTR650. The 410 was the limiting factor due to its smaller fixed antenna. I have no doubt that a couple of DTR700s (I have these too) could hit 15km under reasonable conditions. I think the host conveyed the use case well. These are for semi-private short range communications in an urban environment. I wouldn't recommend these to most people, but they are excellent if they fit your needs.

    Very informative video, some people argue that you need a Ham radio license, ISM doesn’t need a license as long it’s 1watt or less.

    Thanks for making this video. This looks like a useful solution for dedicated team communication. It also looks like the DTR600 is the same radio with only 30 channels, but a better price.

    This is a great dumb down explanation. Thank you! Can you dumb it down even more, with some options? I'm looking for some coms for an emergency situation. With the range of about 40 miles without getting a license. Something that is clear to hear, easy enough for grandma to use and but doesn't allow the rest of the world to hear. Something that isn't as complicated as the balfang. Possibly multi use, emergency setting, taking on a vacation, hiking in the mountains, wandering the city or calling for help. ***Does something like this even exist???

    • @MojaveRepeater
      @MojaveRepeater  Рік тому +6

      Fair enough. It’s half the price of most other brand new high quality radios and one of the only on the market that can freqhop. No, USB type SDRs are typically just receivers although some can transmit, they’re not designed as communications devices

      @@Jkp1321 Some laptop SDRs can indeed employ FHSS. However, you can't tune the LO in precise intervals, so you'll have to use other techniques like using software which limits you to the bandwidth of the SDR you use. A simple search on UA-cam/Google will tell you everything you need to know.
