    I explain how you can record with 4 XLR mics into a Zoom H4n, H4n Pro, or H5, by using an adapter cable to record 2 separate channels into the 3.5mm stereo MIC input.

    A couple of years ago I picked up an old R8 to solve this problem. It works fine and I'm glad I have it, but it is far less portable than the H4n. Not sure how often I'll use this hack, but I definitely see a use case. Thanks.

    This helped me so so much as I was having issues with a interface, a XLR/USB, etc... THIS setup, clean, easy, simple.

    I need to record a boom as well as lav mic at the same time. What's the best way - Boom in Input 1 and Lav in 3mm input?

      That would be the way I'd do it. You'd also need to switch to Multifile record mode.

    With the Shure PGA48 connected via the XLR input, there is a lot more noise than with the 3.5mm?

      That's odd. I would have thought there is more chance of the 3.5mm input being noisy. If you have another XLR cable you could try seeing if that makes a difference.

    I want to record the ambeiant sounds Of TOY Model R/C airlanes with the top mic of my H4n Pro while recoding the Left and right Channels of my Wireless Mic seperatly into the Bottom two 1/4" jacks so one remote mic (Pilot) on the 3rd channel and the 2nd wireless mic is record on channel 4 the right 1/4" jack.
    What cable do I need to take the Remote Mic Receiver out (Stereo) TRS and Split it into the Number 3 & 4 MONO channels 1/4" input.

    Thus is an excellent video for which I am very grateful. I have a question which you may be able to help me with. I recently recorded a podcast using two XLR mics and the built-in XY Zoom mic using 4Chan mode. I had read that 4Chan mode uses a lot of memory so I used a newly formatted 32GB memory card in the recorder. However halfway through the recording - approximately 30 minutes - the card was full and I had to pause and switch to a new card. To my horror when I tried to transfer the original card to my laptop while the .wav files were there in the 4Chan folder they had not recorded any audio data. I was monitoring with headphones during the recording and the the H4N was recording and the timecode was advancing properly. I assume that if the SD card is full it must auto-delete. Have you come across this problem and can you recommend any possible solution? (Fortunately - as is my habit - I had asked each speaker to make a voice memo recording on their phones as a back up so I was able to edit the podcast, albeit with much lower quality audio source material) Best wishes - Adam

    Which model is best for recording guitar/vocal?

    • @DIYVideoStudio
      @DIYVideoStudio  4 місяці тому

      If you only need two inputs (1 for guitar and one for vocals) any of the Zoom Handy recorders (H4n, H4n Pro, H5, and H6) will do that. However, the mic preamps were improved after the H4n, and are the same in the H4n Pro, H5 and H6. So in terms of sound quality those three would be the same. However, I would go either for the H5 or H6. The H6 would be overkill in terms of all the XLR inputs it provides (if you only need guitar and vocals), but I have seen it sell for less than the H5 on Amazon. The H6 also has a sloping display, so it might be easier to see your levels when the recorder is on a flat surface. I hope that helps.

    Could you please suggest h5 or h6 or h2n or h4n pro ?

      It depends on what you want to record. If you want to record with one or two XLR mics then the H4n Pro or the H5 would suit. If you need to record with 4 XLR mics then the H6 or H5 (with the combo capsule) would be a good choice. For surround sound recordings, the H2n would be a good choice. For sound effect recording with the built-in XY mics I use my H5. And if the budget is unimportant and you want lots of flexibility, I would get the H6. Consider what you want to record and then the choice is much easier.
