You know, i hate to say it here, but your tapping sucks. Today i'm gonna lay a thick layer of tips and tricks on you, that way you'll stop making a fool out of yourself at Guitar Center and finally win the affection of your mom's new boyfriend Andrew.
This lesson will take you through the 3 most important aspects to executing deadly tapping: the pick hand fingers, the pick hand palm, and the fretting hand fingers. Armed with these teachings, you will go from Guitar Zero to Guitar Hero in no time (see what i did there??? I'm speaking the language of the kids these days. Cowabunga!).
Thanks for watching, please subscribe, and please comment and let me know what other lessons you would like to see! What sucks about your playing? I'd like to help, because i think it sucks too!
Before this video, my tapping skills were so bad, my band kicked me out, my dog ran away, and my girlfriend left me. After I found out why I sucked, my tapping has gotten so good that I impress everyone at Guitar Center. Thanks Uncle Ben!
Epic!
stop lying about having a girlfriend
Origin story
I hope your dog came back
Well I STARTED TO learn finger TAPPING and my guitar left me ? So I switched learned toe tapping and clogging dancing now my landlord threw me out .So there ? ?
Awhile ago I wanted to tap really badly. Three years of guitar later, I can finally tap really badly.
“I do, because I love you” swooning
@@DamageJackyl ...
"imagine there's a bug on the fretboard and you're just smooshing it"
awesome
hypothetical pineapple it works!
Ben, I gotta thank you for putting not only free, but realistic lessons online. It's great that you get the meat of the issue rather than taking the " everybody gets a medal " approach to teaching. You just got an additional subscriber.
thanks man! and hit me up for Skype lessons!
I agree with this, I tried to learn from another channel but he Dosent actually explain what I’m doing wrong and why I suck like this guy does, I find it more constructive.
*watches first three clips of him tapping, sees "if any of these sound like you. You such at guitar" hangs head in disappointment*
hahaha don't worry, i'm here to help!
what would you do for something like metallica one solo? i dont have enough time to pulloff with my "tapper".
itsmydamnation lol that was my "first" full song I tried to learn when u get to that part its very easy to fall off thr rhythm I first started to get it down by just tapping to the beat so ie when they get to the fast 7 notes practice tapping ur tapping finger along with that the only difference is instead of the pause play straight thru and if your doing it in time u will b tapping on the one beat (the down beat not the song lol)
Mr. Richards tfw those clips are better than you
I didn't know you had to mute any strings above the one you are playing. All the other videos I saw didn't say anything about it. Thanks master ben.
+WackoCard2 that's what i'm here for! cheers man :)
I was always missing this crucial part
I've never seen an instructor who could break down techniques to the most fundamental parts and be able to say something other than "just do it"! Really, thanks a lot! You can explain everything in less than 10 minutes! That's amazing!
Hehe, he said "tapping your D".
Yeah I suck at guitar.
lol
That’s the first to be good at anything. You have to suck first
That was funny af
@@briangray6476 I must be on my way to being good at everything.
I need to visit a Guitar Center sometime, I want to see some of these guitards of which you speak.
JLConawayII it ain't pretty!
JLConawayII Last time I went to one emo kids were still around and they did nothing but jump on the loudest amp they could find and played horrible emo band riffs.
+Ben Eller I get the whole tapping concept, but what about guitars and gear? will I need a fender or a schecter with top of the line pickups? I'm using a behringer, its pretty cheap.
JLConawayII if you havent noticed them youre one of them
“Don’t do this. It’s stupid.”
My gracious! you deliver the simplest things beautifully. That got me😂
You should also show how to hide pick under first knuckle of middle finger while not using it, like Jimi Hendrix showed Edward Van Halen in a video Ed watched as a kid...
akonitony2 a critical tip!
I'm not advanced enough to be doing tapping, but I know just knowing the proper way to do it is going to be a godsend. Your guitar lessons have been great so far.
how long have you been playing?
Valtteri Immonen I've had a guitar for about 6 months. My practice has been pretty spotty without a teacher so I'm not making very much progress. I just kind of leave my guitar out and mess with it once in a while.
+Erduk nah dude dont do that
ive been doing that for 3 years and TRUST ME
its not a cool feeling to know that youve wasted so much time and potential
i dont know what to do either but if you wanna start building up speed and agility look into John Petrucci's "Rock Discipline"
really good!!!
Guys, there's tons of free lessons right here on youtube, from beginner on. Utilize them them, you can go from complete beginner right on up for free right here on youtube. I've been doing it for years...
You still playing ?
I was that annoying kid at guitar center. not anymore. Thanks Ben Eller!
Hahaha changing the world, one guitar center at a time!!! What can i help you with next???
@@BenEller* But nobody came.
Pop the bass until your RH index fingertip is hard as a rock. Then your tapping will be automatically cleaner and harder.
Think about it, a hammer is hard. Otherwise they'd be called mallet-ons.
I love this video series! Keep it up my man, you are really helping me improve as a guitarist and I hope many others are feeling this way too.
This is honestly ssooo helpful. I'm working on the solo from Skillet's Whispers in the Dark, and now I can tap so much louder and now I got the hang of it. Thank you so much!
I’ve been playing guitar 25+ years now. When it comes to cleaning up or learning advanced techniques I never bothered with, your videos never cease to amaze me with the little things you point out that make all the difference that are overlooked by everyone else on UA-cam. Such as muting with the tip of your index finger on your left hand towards the end of the video.
Your sarcasm is great! I love it!
You're a great man.
I learnt the guitar at home by reading articles and watching people play. So i always had doubts about my techniques and knowledge but your videos have helped me so much.
Thank you uncle ben.
Hey Ben! I've been playing guitar over 20 years, but thanks to you (and also Troy Grady's awesome vids) I've really started exploring avenues that I'd never really been down before, and starting to get a handle on the ruts and bad habits I'd fallen into. Thanks so much for making these videos, dude!
Thanks Ben. I once took lessons from an 18yr. old that was a great player, but sucked at teaching. Your lessons are really a godsend. Very easy to understand and follow. Can't beat the price either. Thanks again Rick
you're a great instructor , you show critical details that could make huge difference, good job man thumbs up
Thanks dude. You explain it so much better than any video on YT
Finally someone who takes the time to teach us stuff like hand positioning and the right picking techniques. Than you so much!
+Soti Lois and thank you for watching!
It's been six years and ik I'm so late for even commenting but I gotta say Thanks, man.. This is the best tapping lesson I've seen so far. It's so helpful..
this lesson so hit home in the first 10 seconds.. Nice job Ben
Dude thanks a ton, your videos are so helpful and you really help clean up a lot of my sloppy/bad habbits and help me learn a lot of new techniques
I'm torn between anger at being told I suck and eternal gratitude for all your help. Thanks Ben.
I love seeing these older videos where you werent so comfy on camera. Youve come a long way baby! Excellent channel even in the beginning.
Thank you so much!!
Excellent lesson! Thank you!
Thank you for the lessons! I'm loving them and I'm seeing my playing getting better and better ty
thanks Ryan!!
Ben, you really rock dude! Thanks so much for the tips, awesome work.
I did indeed subscribe, Ben. Very helpful and informative. Thank you for your time and lessons.
Fantastic! I never learned how to tap and this is gonna help me tremendously!
Thanks dude!
I wish I would've found your videos before realizing the stuff in your videos on my own. Great stuff, dude!
thanks dude!
thanks for the wealth of knowledge and tips, as a 20 year acoustic player mostly fingerstyle I thought tapping would be fairly easy for me, but as you;ve pointed out I often accidentally hit other strings in subtle ways that don't sound as subtle when the volume is up. got my first electric in 15 years a few weeks ago and loving it.
subscribed.
The palm muting part helped me a lot
You really have helped me out. I had always problem with tapping.
Cheers.
MsPatryk1103 cheers, thanks for watching!
GREAT! Love it.
dude you are amazing!! thanks for this lesson, you helped me a lot.
Damn. You’ve been a legend for an Untold time. Thanks for so much amazing content.
i love the way youre teaching very easy very effective thank you Ben! one hell of a like!
Awesome tips. Really cleaned up what I was doing.
Bro, you're the man. I've been playing for about 5 years but I always get put off by tapping. I used to think it was because my guitar way too cheap and had rubbish pickups, but now I realise I just never paid proper attention to technique and gave up way too early.
You are great. Thank you.
Great video, didn't even think of the right hand mute and I can tap pretty well. Also don't forget to use a compressor, it makes a big difference to equalizing the volume of all the notes
G`day, and well done! Loved the editing.
Cheers
Great shit dude, I really appreciate this tutorial
cheers Jake, glad i could help!
good as always
Nice one man! U knw I really like knowing ur there, I find u easy to listen to and watch, u dnt over complicate things. U dnt talk so much mumbo jumbo that only experienced music reader cud understand, u relay in a way that a much wider amount of people r able to grasp thanx a lot. Hey anyone want to start a charity drive that includes unless Ben cutting his pony tail off lol. He's a good guy so u knw he'd do it like or comment if u think it's a good idea! Go Ben! Go Ben! Go Ben!
Great videos keep it up and thanks!!!
Awesome man! I couldn't tap at all so at least i'm starting of with good teaching
Karl Dunne keep it up, Karl!
another great lesson
Good tips bro! Keep them coming!
explains all the aspects of tapping. like it, Subscribed.
Thanks for the free lesson, it really helped!!
Bob Vieira glad to hear it!
New subscriber, thanks for these little lessons you posts!
These videos are amazing thank you.
Thanks guy!
This is required viewing for all my rock students- there is no better video then Uncle Ben!
The best explaination of the guitar I have seen. I'm a an old guy and new guitar player. Im teching myself specific riffs. Other than practice how would you go about learning the tempo and coordination between the picking and fret hand and how they interact to sound like you're playing a blues song ( roadhouse blues, voodoo chile) , rock (aint talking about love) ballad "diary of a madman/fade to black" , thrash (ace of spades), grunge/stoner ect... broken down in the way you teach them. Thank you for the videos
awesome Tim! Thank you so much for watching and for the suggestions. I will definitely keep these in mind. Stay tuned for a lesson on how to achieve some kickass vibrato!
thank you so much your videos have helped me improve immensely :D
Thanks for this!
Epic lesson. Thanks.
thank YOU!
Very useful thank you for the videos man :)
Subbed. You teach in a way that is both kinda funny and still goes above and beyond where most teach in just about 10:00 minutes
Will you be adding tapping to your bluegrass, Hank? If so I advise you get an electric acoustic, tapping is different and harder on a normal acoustic. Do you know what a JPEG is, btw?
Also, can I just say looking at your channel, I'm massively approving of your tastes? Almost all the channels you like, I like. And if you're into GURPS. hmu, because I can never find reliable players for ANY game.
*dude, you are so much help, thanks for doing this and your such a great guitarist
you are my hero props to you!!
love this guy I just learned how to shred like a mad man
I could listen to your intro all day.
lol thanks! Feel free to do so!
Thaks for this @Ben Eller I have just trying to learn One by Metallica. The tapping in the solo is immense!
Best free lessons on youtube!
You are by far the funniest teacher, great stuff, Ive been having an easier time muting with the palm because of this video
wow actually improved my tapping instantly my a lot thank you 2013 guy!
Thankyou friend for all your lessons...the way you teaching us is great! i'm going to watch all your videos despite am i good in that part or not...also you are a pleasant person)))
I just discovered this vintage footage today. 15 years I've been playing guitar and just now learning to tap. Polyphia inspired me to learn it.
This video really helped me in just a few minutes. 😁👍
Thanks. 👍🏻😎
you are a good man Uncle Ben
Ive noticed it's easier to shred a scale if you start your picking upwards if you do alternate picking. It flows smoother and faster and sounds more metal!!!
Ben Eller Cheers for this tutorial series mate; instant subscriptions after the watching the finger picking tutorial. By far the best teacher I've come across on here; looking forward to next weeks video brother. Will get my buddies to Sub you too - thanks again pal.
Hey Ben, thanks a lot for the lesson. You should also do one for pick tapping, though!
Cheers.
I can play the tapping part in eruption now, thanks!
In the end, there's was a poster "Don't Panic", behind him.
Instantly liked and subscribed, for being a Hitchhiker's Guide To the Galaxy fan.
I'm happy to hear that I'm doing things right.
Getting some sustain or distortion helps, too. Turn up the pre-gain or use a distortion pedal. It doesn’t have to be loud, but sustaining-but it can be loud. You can hear that he has that sustain-distortion sound with his set-up.
4:38, Marty Friedman disagrees, lol, great video, late to say it but still great 👍🏻
This is the best guitar video I’ve ever seen
Guitar Grader haha thank you!
This vdo helped... Thnx so much
What a frank name for a series I love it.
Thumbed it up instantly because you said you love us feeble students!
Thanks for the lesson! It has helped a lot. You saved me from being that guy at guitar center!
Good!!! Hahaha nobody wants to be THAT guy!
Excellent. And hilarious.
I like your sense of humor. Just discovered you. Tapping hurts my picking hand cause I am a sissy boy with no callouses on my right hand. I also spend 95 percent of my time on acoustic guitar cause I am too lazy to plug in my electric. I like how you focus on movement fundamentals, too.
Thank you bro, I've been trying so long, but it's now obvious, I need to be tapping harder, and at a good angle, if I didn't find this I'd of gave up
Funny as hell and very helpful
Well this boots my confidence
Thanks for the detailed approach. Very comprehensive!
WIll you please do a video about expressive playing? I mean, going beyond time precision and making the notes come alive.
Thanks once again.
Regards.
thank you for these videos. youre my favorite person to listen to lol. Im also your 3k thumbs up on this vid
