People saying why bring a toddler to a baseball game but the same injury could have happened to an adult. Get a net. Edit: I honestly did not expect to get so many likes or start an entire debate but the bottom line is, no one wants to get hit in the head by a ball going that fast. Adults can die from blunt force trauma and that's a fact. Yes, catching a baseball is part of the fun of sitting up close but it is still dangerous and needs more safety precautions.
Carnalez The Best Camper So, literally anything could happen. A freak accident could happen with your kid at the park. Are we suppose to keep our children inside until they are 16 or something? One. No kid wants to stay inside all the time. These are memories for some kids of the best things they did with their family, And 2. Taking kids to games is also a break from routine for the ADULTS sanity as well. Kids don’t sit and watch games on the tv. But they DO really enjoy games in person.
They won't remember it. If someoe ask them who won and nobody reminds him/her, he/she won't know. It's a waste of money. Don't take your kid to the park. In kindergarten the playground is outside. i'm sure there are no adults there playing baseball. No kid wants to stay inside all the time? Do you know every single kid? do you know they play fortnite now?

Yea, apply no responsibility to the parent that sat there with the infant. I agree stadiums should have better protection for the fans, but more so that the parents with young children that either do not know better than to react or cannot react in a timely manner should never set in an area that puts their child in danger.

the fantastic Maia 105 mph is a crazy speed. And you can even see in the video that ball traveled way too fast for someone to be able to think or even get a word out. It’s not anybodies fault, just terrible luck. I don’t think anybodies reaction would be that fast if they were caught off guard and didn’t expect it.
Squash man Dew i know that but yeah i think every ball game were you can get hit by somthing should have safety. I just freaked out and yeah it's nobodys fault.
Squash man Dew lol, I wouldn't be too sure. I tried hitting a ball at my coach, at a pretty fast speed. I was only standing about a metre away, and I hit the ball really hard. He caught it. And just smiled in a way, that made you think; 'don't try that again unless you want me to frickin eat you alive' XD
The reason why fans can't sue ballparks legally is because of a law called Assumption of Risk that protects the ballparks. It says because we know getting hurt is possible by bats and balls, it's a risk we as fans take the closer we sit to home plate.
NASCAR is also the same way as well. Speedways are not responsible if sheet metal or other debris fly into the stands during the event of an accident. Notable ones like Bobby Allison in 1987 at Talladega (blows a tire and tore up a section of catchfencing), Carl Edwards in 2009 (same place as Allison), Kyle Larson in 2013 (Larson's #32 machine ripped the front end off of his car and sent a tire and a engine through the catchfencing, luckily, the engine did not went into the stands, but stopped at the edge), and the most notable one I remember is Austin Dillon in 2015 at Daytona where his car launched up off the track after the checkered flag and went into the catchfencing
This is so sad. I can't imagine how everyone especially her parents felt when she got hit. I hope she's doing ok now. She will never forget that day. I use to always duck or drop to the ground every time I played baseball with my friends when we were little and It was my turn to pitch. I was always scared of the ball hitting me. This ball going that fast hitting a child can really do some damage
Just don't take toddlers with to a high risk environment. It can always be a bomb at the stadium or concert, a fan fight, a fire or incidents like this
Poor guy. He is being way too hard on himself, he did not mean to hurt anyone. I hope this is a lesson learned for more safety precautions like the extended netting they mentioned in the video. :(
@@xx_ippodempseyroll420_xx3 I would agree but with school shootings, you literally can't do anything about it. Edit: ok, guard the schools and such, if budget and time allows for it.

Bruh wtf how incensitive and uncaring of a response. "We dont have nets because nets aren't required" So you'd rather have fans get hit and almost die just because it's gonna cost a few bucks to make sure it doesn't happen?
@United Blueline stop blaming the parents! Do you think they knew that might have happened? No. They were trying to get seats closer to let their kid see better. And it's not their fault. When you go to a stadium, you aren't thinking about getting hit in the face are you? You're probably thinking about having fun, and I'm sure they were thinking the same thing. They didn't know and I'm sure they already feel bad enough. It's the stadiums fault. They should have been worried about their fans. And the chances of anyone getting hit don't always depend on where they sit. It depends on how hard they can hit the ball sooooooo..........
As far as I know you have to sign a waiver to sit in that area because it’s dangerous. And that means the parents signed the papers knowing how dangerous it was and still took their kid. Which would technically still make it their fault too even though this was a freak accident. You always see stories and videos of people getting injured in the stands because they got hit with a ball or someone’s bat went flying.
@@joelanderson5137 That number was just as high before cell phones. Trying to catch, or even dodge a 100+ MPH fast-ball with the sun in your eyes is pretty difficult
FFS why is everyone saying it's the parents fault for bringing her? It's the stadiums fault for not having netting. You can't blame the parents for bringing a child to a baseball game because they paid to get in and have a right to be there.
Apparently, people sit in those particular areas for a higher chance of getting their hands on the ball. This here is a toddler who might not even remember the game in later years, if she were asked to recall it. If the parents are going to sit there in that area with a child, which as you pointed out they have a right to do, then they should accept the risks or have brought up the concern before the game started and if that wasn't possible, perhaps moved to a safer area where the protection was in place? Risks, rewards, responsibilities - I'm not sure they've all been checked off here.
Tom Bate it’s NOT anyone’s fault. The grandparents didn’t ask for this to happen, the player didn’t aim his foul ball at the child and the ball certainly didn’t will it’s way to her. Netting wasn’t there because it wasn’t a requirement. It’s still not a requirement but it’s there now as a precaution

The amazing part is how when that girl gets through this and grows up! She can see how concerned people are. And in a way videos like this show her when she is older, almost like how sorry people are for it-
Gosh the looks on the players' faces are so moving. Despite such a terrible accident, it warms my heart to see them so worried and so sorry for something they couldn't really control. Hope the girl made it out okay.
The little girl is doing well. She's now home. She does have to wear an eye patch to help strengthen her other eye and is traumatized by it. Hopefully, she's so young that soon she'll forget about the whole thing!
I play softball and I have been hit numerous times by 70 mph balls but I could never imagine the pain the child is feeling of a 105 mph baseball to the head my prayers go out to her and her family 💕
Same thing here, even a 90 mile and hour pitch hurts like heck, I can’t even imagine a kid that age getting hit in the face with a ball going over 100 mph.
Captain Black It’s just a joke buddy, calm down. I clicked on the video because it was interesting. I was just wondering why it was there. The kid is fine by the way. 10 stitches on their forehead and is fully recovered now.
Question: How many of these incidents of someone getting hit and having to be hospitalized have actually happened in baseball history? Don't hate the parents and don't hate the player. IT WAS AN ACCIDENT!
Hopefully she’s well now, it was months ago. But that must’ve done some serious damage, why bring such a young kid to something like this?? It’s not like she’d even understand (I don’t either I’m british but not the point) hire a fucking babysitter, no one is to blame but the parents
not necessarily about her understanding. it's call the 'plastic years' where anything a toddler or child does (or is taken to) can affect and help develop their mindset, interacting with the world, etc. so taking a kid to a baseball game isn't necessarily a bad thing, even if they don't understand. not taking them simply because they don't understand what is probably happening is like not taking them to the beach just because they don't know what it is. if you don't take them to the beach, they might not learn how to play with the sand or swim in the ocean. taking them to the beach can even teach them about sharks, shells, etc. so i don't think the parents are to blame. but the hitter didn't mean to hit her either. he wasn't thinking 'i'm gonna hit the ball to her face'. the real problem and 'culprit' here is not enough protective netting. but nobody as a person is to blame.
I'm inclined to agree with you, since an infant was injured a couple days ago. at a local game. She has skull fractures and brain swelling and has had some seizures. It's dangerous.
Cleosmom7 I agree, though I remember when my (now) 14yo was a baby I took her to a family gathering at a park where some family were playing cricket around 100 meters away. My partner was batting and hit the ball right into my daughter who was sat in her pram while us girls were chatting. I was initially so angry at him, because in my panic I wrongly sought to place blame, but soon realised it was just an unfortunate accident that perhaps could have been prevented if I had ever thought to turn her away from what I thought was a safe game happening quite a distance away. Nowadays people would call me morbid, but as a Mum of (now) 3 I can't help but play out every scenario in my head to explore possible dangers. I don't blame other parents for things like this, but think as a thoughtful society it would be great if others helped us to imagine these scenarios that might not have crossed our minds. Ie: making parents aware that these things do happen and encouraging appropriate preventative measures, if not avoiding completely.
I remember a few years back a little girl died at an NHL game when a puck went over the glass behind the net and hit her in the head. Now all teams use safety netting and there is 0 difference in sight lines.
@ There is nothing wrong with parents bringing their kids to games, some kids love going to sporting events like this. The net will barely obstruct your view unless you're behind one of the poles. I'd rather have the nets extended than to risk another person getting hit with a foul ball, because those balls CAN kill you. That toddler was very lucky to not have permanent injuries
Darby Mason you don’t read closely, smh, he saying that if people were off there phones and paying attention to the game, then they would have seen the ball, puck etc. coming and possibly would reduced the injury
What happened is such a horrible accident but it brought tears in my eyes watching everyone forget about the game and care so much for this precious little girl. I sure hope that she has recovered well.
What annoys me the most is why the parents took a toddler to a baseball game..And I don't know why people are mad at the baseball player, he didn't wake up that morning and think *you know what, I'll go hit a ball at a kids face* Neither he or the stadium should pay any type of money. It was a complete accident.
There should be netting up and down the entire first and third base lines, and not just behind home plate and extending to the ends of either dugout. Yes kids can still catch baseballs that fly over the netting. Safety first.
Actually the girl was sitting behind home plate a little bit. That’s the only area that there isn’t any netting, only because it uncommon for foul balls to fly behind home plate.
Pretty sure most injuries occur in the places where the extended netting reaches to. So that's all they have to do to eliminate the majority of injuries. It's not as complex or "touchy" as you're making it sound. It's just a matter of rich people cutting costs because they don't care about the "lesser" humans in the stands. (Or might think netting hurts aesthetics)
News update! The little girl once hit by a speeding ball made a full recovery with minor cosmetic surgery! The ball was given 5 to 10 for child endangerment!
To be honest I thought her face would be caved in like a soup bowl because babies bone marrow is very soft and hardly developed. Good thing for the child.

Some people don't get that bad things happen sometimes.. Accidents happen.. But no.. There are always people who always find the need to blame something or someone..
Not every situation has a specific person/object to blame. It was a freak accident and everyone feels bad about it. Extended netting is probably in the future, but that doesn't mean it's completely to blame.
@@alemujica3163 At the end of the day it's their fault for not taking into consideration the chance they could get hit due to the lack of protective netting. They were there and the people paid for the ticket didn't they? There's your answer they accepted responsibly for if it happened to hit them since they bought tickets for those seats. The reason companies cut corners is to save money, baseball is no different. As long as the fans continue to pay to sit in those areas and they aren't forced by a 3rd party to put up nets they won't. The only time a company makes changes is if it is either going to save them money or it's going to make them more money.
Man #1 rule pay attention took my girl to a cubs game. Whole time she was playing on her phone. Kept telling her to watch out. Then next thing you know 3 seats down a lady got blasted. She put her phone up after that.
Itzme Bren yes i did, in fact i had also attended many county games and you should know that once the ball has been hit with the bat, the speed substantially decreases by the time it reaches the spectator stand. Meanwhile baseball fields are very tiny compared to cricket and the ball tends to travel faster!
It's not the parent's nor the player's fault. The player can't control who he hits, he's just playing the game. Also, the parents just want to see the game with their child. When I go to a baseball game, I don't expect to be hit in the face with a 100 mph ball. I expect to be just watching the game. It's the stadium's fault for not protecting fans or being held liable for it.
+DoubleFailMech But you also have to factor in other things. A baseball hurts and the first reaction would be to move out of the way. But if you are sitting with a toddler, there is a very slim chance you could actually stop it or move out of the way in time. You also have to stop and consider that someone else would have to get hit in order to save that child, so it is not based on thought, it is based on reflexes.
Redkit Bellson I'm siding with you on this because it says in the video that the area the child was hit in is recommended by the league to have safety nets, but not enforced. If safety regulations recommend anything at all, it should be enforced and not a decision left up to the owners of the team/field. This toddler was injured because safety "recommendations" were ignored. Nothing else. Especially since certain sections have a greater threat than others. Why not prevent these threats accordingly instead of passing the blame onto the spectators.
it will happen eventually despite what keyboard warriors like fuck your copyright think because it will just get too the point where players can protest for it to happen

Adults are tougher
Pretty sure tooflers skull might be a little weaker than an adult. Plus adults go there knowing the risk.

Don't take your kid to the park. the fantastic Maia 105 mph is a crazy speed. And you can even see in the video that ball traveled way too fast for someone to be able to think or even get a word out. Squash man Dew i know that but yeah i think every ball game were you can get hit by somthing should have safety. I just freaked out and yeah it's nobodys fault.

Cleo the Budgie i dont think it was anyones fault. I think its just really bad luck, but yes, they need more netting

I think its ridiculous to bring a baby to the game. There should be a minimum age limit, just like at amusement parks etc.
I'm inclined to agree with you, since an infant was injured a couple days ago. at a local game. She has skull fractures and brain swelling and has had some seizures. It's dangerous.
Cleosmom7
I agree, though I remember when my (now) 14yo was a baby I took her to a family gathering at a park where some family were playing cricket around 100 meters away.
Red Redmon That was around 2002.
@ I don't know what the hell kind of difference you think not being on a phone is, the ball was going 105 MILES PER HOUR.
Darby Mason you don’t read closely, smh, he saying that if people were off there phones and paying attention to the game, then they would have seen the ball, puck etc. coming and possibly would reduced the injury
Spencer Wentland 105 mph ball, blink and you'll miss it.
There should have been some netting or something from the beginning. Whoever designed this is at fault it’s not the player.
Also the owner of the stadium/team is at fault for not installing the proper netting when he (or she) had the chance.
I guess that’s the risk you take going to a MLB game. Possibly getting hit with a ball.

It’s not just kids getting hit but adults also and I do agree they are accidents but they need to put some kind of safety precaution
So kids shouldn’t be able to go to baseball games? There’s nothing wrong with a parent taking their child to a game. Smh.

Scary moment but the little girl made a full recovery and I totally agree every stadium she have nets for the safety of all the fans

Omg… 😭 I couldn’t bare the shock of the baby’s parents.
i can't belive they're forcing cameras into the faces of these guys they're clearly beat up and emotionally about it
GoldenDogs445 Are you serious? You’re mad about cameras in the faces of professional athletes? There’s people that get hit by floods, earthquakes, hurricanes, tornadoes, etc. What’s the first thing the news does? Gets out there, shoves a camera in their face, then get mad and ask why they’d be upset.
Al Phuckya wait so you agree with him or no
Jihadi in my body 696996969 I think this person thinks he’s arguing because of the severity of trauma between natural disasters and someone grieving for an accident but he’s really just agreeing with the guy.
@@Username-2 i don't watch baseball, so idk if this player is a star, but literally only stars get press lol. So if this dude is not a star player. Kinda fucked up giving him camera time almost killing a young girl
GoldenDogs445 they are zooming. The camera is no where near them.
In Germany toddlers aren‘t allowed to attend such events, because of THIS (Edit:stop bringing race and culture into the discussion in the comments, thank u)
Random Comment That kinda sucks though and seems extreme. This is super rare and could be prevented by putting up simple netting. No need to ban them from games entirely.
@@mousey1 It is not that 'rare'. If you have watched the whole video you wouod have know. Plus, why would a todler need to be on such an event? They probably won't remember it or just don't like it.
And even if they would like it. Hell, is that actually worth risking a young person their live? They are so vulnerable
Lysanne You are just paranoid. It is very rare. Think of the number of people that go to baseball games and the amount of times this happens. Just because it has happened before doesn’t make it not rare.
Lysanne To say a baseball game risks a toddler’s life is absolutely laughable.
Lysanne And by rare I mean its super rare that somebody gets injured to the level this child did. Obviously fly balls are a part of the experience. Most injuries are incredibly minor if they happen and if you watch your kid carefully, you can protect them from it. No need to prevent them from coming to the game.
Y'all are amazing. Thank you for putting this little girl ahead of the game.
Thank you for praying and showing so much concern. Praise God that there's still people with true hearts.
while it does crush me to know the little girl got hit by a ball at that speed, it was really heart-warming to see people stop caring about the game. i can't imagine the guilt that man felt... and seeing the player cry about it broke me...
Feel bad for the girl hopefully she gets better

Spec Rylxnd yeah she’s alive! Doing well now.
CasperMelchiorBalthasar i mean.. youre not a little bit better by wishing someone death like uhm ..
Don't blame the player, the club, the stadium, the parents, or the kids
Blame the ball
The ball, or the bat for hitting the ball in her direction?
Damn ball... Always ruining everything.
I think we should blame gravity on this one, if we live on the moon things like this won't ever happen.
blame humans, they made the ball, they also could have made that extended netting
Don't blame the ball. Blame physics!
Update about the girl condition?
DocZero She is fine now, she is just traumatized still but she is doing well.
Glad to hear
She died

I can’t imagine how the little girl, the parents, and the players feel...bless their souls.

Madison Jackson omg that’s sad
She dieded
The Pikachu of Texas ... are you serious? I thought she was recovering? I hope not ):
she is as stable as a two year old can be. She has to wear an eyepatch on her good eye to help strengthen the one that was injured. They won’t really know the extent of her injuries until she’s older and grows into her body, however, the dad did state she is being monitored by a neurologist regularly and that once she’s older, she might need surgery to correct any orbital bones that were injured. The Baseball player and Yankees have stayed in touch with the family and have even covered medical costs.
Accidently hurting someone is the worst. It feels awful for both
Some people don't get that bad things happen sometimes.. Accidents happen.. But no.. There are always people who always find the need to blame something or someone..
Ayudi Tzudir do you think the bad security measures are not to blame? ok then
Ayudi Tzudir Tell me about it.
Cow Slayer1989 you’re not going to see a god damn 70+ mph ball flying towards you, you’re reaction speed is not as good as you perceive it to be
Itzme Bren No, you won’t
Itzme Bren you can see it, you won’t have the reaction time to do anything
MistahTeeLecksAhFly bruh, have you ever played cricket?
You shouldn’t sit in the power zone if you aren’t prepared.
+DoubleFailMech No one can dodge a baseball that fast, like I said in my comment. You could get hit anywhere in the stadium, it's not subjective.
105 mph
Redkit Bellson I'm siding with you on this because it says in the video that the area the child was hit in is recommended by the league to have safety nets, but not enforced. If safety regulations recommend anything at all, it should be enforced and not a decision left up to the owners of the team/field. This toddler was injured because safety "recommendations" were ignored. Nothing else. Especially since certain sections have a greater threat than others.
Why not prevent these threats accordingly instead of passing the blame onto the spectators.
I hope she is good right now. God bless
Yea she’s probably okay, I hope she is, that was 4 years ago
put up nets in every stadium. I can’t believe this is even up for debate
@@fuckyourcopyright3539 If a net suddenly stops you from being able to see then you must be fucking blind
it will happen eventually despite what keyboard warriors like fuck your copyright think because it will just get too the point where players can protest for it to happen

It’s the parents fault for putting their toddler that close to a ball in play. Statistically the lower deck along the baselines Get the most faul ball action your asking for your child to get drilled by putting them that close to the game
