    when he said "this has a really heavy clutch", I felt that. 😅
    First time riding my Griso home after buying it, I had to ride through city traffic, and it was murder on my left hand that was used to the gentle pull on my old VFR. 🤣
    It's a quirky and interesting riding experience I would not recommend to anyone with less than 10 years riding experience, it will sometimes fight downshifts if you don't rev-match, and it pulls your arms out of the sockets when you give it a good pull at 4k RPM.
    I always considered this a muscle bike, it's hard to categorise it any other way, it's too sporty to be a cruiser but it's not exactly sporty enough to be a 'naked' bike because it's so big and heavy.
    I sometimes joke that it's the bike to satisfy both Ducati Monster and BMW R9T riders, it's got the 90 degree air-cooled V-twin with cylinders sticking out the side.

    Loved this video and look forward to more videos featuring Josh. This era was very unique in bikes. You had a bunch of air-cooled, big twin nakeds, with the Griso, Monster 1100S, XB12SS, R1200R, MT01, XR1200X and if you open up to i4 you even have the CB1100. I wish companies would do more weird bikes like this again.

    I just came across your channel. I own a couple older 80s MGs ( CX100 Lemans and 1000SP) just picked up the last few years. Totally different feel from modern sport twins I've owned. New to TX, ( Houston)and I guess you're in Hill country area from vids I've seen.

I'm guessing that I am closer in height to Josh ( I am 5'7" and have a true, crotch to floor, 31" inseam) I'm not concerned about saddle height but was wondering what your opinion was in regards to handlebar reach for a shorter rider, and if Josh thought he would be comfortable for longer rides without having to do modifications. Thanks keep up the good work.

    Guzzi is a brand I've been interested in for a while, but they just don't have enough presence. I'm in Vegas and could go to Eurocycles, but I wont' live in the city forever and know it'll be a loooong ride if I ever need to get one serviced. But I'm 100% down with their cafe racer and loved the look of their discontinued California cruiser. If they had step-by-step, Marine-proof videos showing EVERY maintenance you could perform on the bike, from valve clearance checks to troubleshooting, I'd pick one up in a heartbeat since I wouldn't have to worry about dealership distances, which is the only thing holding me back.

      Not sure if you've looked around much but there's a lot of content on Guzzi maintenance out there since lots of Guzzi owners like to diy. I got a V85TT this year and have been stunned at how much there is for a relatively new and low production number bike. Cubbysue makes some great videos on V85TT maintenance (he served but I don't remember which branch). The other nice thing is the V85 and V9 engines are very similar so lots of the maintenance procedures are similar. Guzzi also sells their full maintenance booklets for cheap and you can often find free downloads online. If you do your own wrenching I think they're a great choice, I'd look around some more if you're really curious.

    Yo Spite, I just heard you saying the MT 01 had 80 hp and 110 nm torque. Maybe that’s the Canadian specs… in Europe, it has 90 hp and 150(!) nm torque… maybe you should come over here when you’re seriously looking for one…!? 👋😎

  • @matthiashauptmann9423
    @matthiashauptmann9423 8 місяців тому +1

    I´ve ridden the MT-01 for a few days and this thing IS weird! The Yam needs above 3k rpm but peaks out at 5k, so the true rev range is narrow (which is not a problem due to the vast amount of torque). Geometry- and suspension-wise the Griso beats the Yam in every single discipline once you get the hang of how a Guzzi wants to be ridden - which might take a few days. I can´t speak for the 1200, but the equally heavy and 20 hps "weaker" 1100 is a surprisingly capable sports-cruiser, that potentially draws a lot of its appeal from the difference between the agricultural engine and tranny and the refined road-manners and multitude of well-designed details. You usually think mid-corner "I could have entered this a lot faster" which speaks for itself.
    In all these respects I´d vote for "sports-cruiser" rather than "muscle cruiser". My 1100 is my "sports-trekker" or the "flying menhir", depending on my mood. Either way, it always leaves a wide grin on my face.
    Swapping the stock clutch master for a Brembo RCS16 was one of the few changes I made to my bike, but definitely worth every penny as it lightens the lever AND provides you with more travel with better actuation and improved feel. And on top you can adjust the clutch to your liking. You´d love this mod!

      The heat issue gets improved a lot with the cat delete and an ECU change. At least it did a lot with my bike. I can’t speak much to the shifting. I love how my bike shifts. It didn’t feel perfect until I changed all the driveline oil…. Which if you haven’t I would strongly suggest you do as soon as possible.

      @@matthatter93 Yeah, my bike is pretty new and still in warranty for a bit so I'm not sure I want to do a decat/tune yet, but I probably will eventually. Currently debating between doing the first service myself or having the dealer do it so that in case I have any issues later on it's on them and not me.

    • @matthatter93
      @matthatter93 8 місяців тому

      @@trevorkarrett3041 up to you. I did it all myself knowing I would keep this for a long time. I’ve only had mine 6 months now. Figured the warranty would only be effected for the exhaust because the tune can be reversed back to OEM if you go with the UPMAP tune. But don’t blame you for waiting til warranty is up. I will say if you let the dealer do the first service just ask to get the transmission and final drive fluid changed as well. It’s not in the service manual but it is a MUST. A lot of people have found less than recommended amount in both and there is a good amount of shavings in the fluid I initially. Typical shaft drive stuff but it’s not recommended til 6k miles and that would be a bad decision to wait that long.
